Kenton Collinson
Robert Kenton Collinson, 85, of Winfield, died July 11, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
Collinson was born May 31, 1916, in Winfield, to Carol (Albright) and Grover W. Collinson. He was raised and educated in the Winfield area and obtained a degree in drama from Northwestern University in Chicago.
In 1938 he married Enid Bishop in Arkansas City.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.
Collinson was involved with the family business, Albright Investment Co., for most of his life. He was a member of Rotary.
Survivors include his wife, Enid Collinson, Winfield; a son, Peter Collinson, Mount Pleasant, Mich.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Warren Wright
Services for Warren Byrle Wright were held at 10:30 a.m. July 11 at Grandview United Methodist Church. The Revs. Don Foster and Connie Wooldridge officiated. Burial was in Wilmot Cemetery.
Rose Marie Watt was the organist.
Special music included "Daddy's Hands" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" performed by Dave Watters.
Casket bearers were Bob Collier, Jack Kelsey, Joe Kendrick, Bill Miller, John Rogers and Bob Wynn.
Memorials have been established with Grandview United Methodist Church and St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Arkansas City.
Miles Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Shirley Artherton
Services for Shirley Ann (Morgan) Artherton were held at 10 a.m. July 13 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated.
Special recorded music included "Peace in the Valley" and "Amazing Grace," performed by Elvis Presley.
Casket bearers were Robert Artherton, John Creighton, Robert Hansen, Eric Harrod, Todd Harrod and Randall Prock.
A memorial has been established with the Activity Fund at Rest Haven Nursing Center.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Clara Marten
AUGUSTA - Clara H. Marten, 90, of Lake Point Nursing Center in Augusta, formerly of Winfield, died July 11, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery
in Winfield.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
An educational fund for Marten's grandsons has been established as a memorial. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Marten was born Oct. 29, 1910, on a farm in Marion County, to Eva (Kennard) and George Hargett. The family moved to Arkansas City where she graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1928. Following graduation, she moved to Winfield, where she received her nursing certificate from St. Mary's Hospital in 1933. She began working at Jones-Snyder Clinic and was a surgical nurse.
On Nov. 9, 1941, she married Wilbur Paul Marten of Winfield in Salisbury, Mo. The couple made their first home in Winfield before moving to Cedar Vale in 1945. In Cedar Vale Marten worked at the Hays Hospital. In 1960 she and her family moved to Derby, and she worked in the pediatric/intensive care unit at St. Joseph Hospital in Wichita. In 1963 they moved back to Winfield, and she was employed as a nurse at the Snyder Clinic until her retirement in 1975. Her husband died on Jan. 30, 1988.
In 1990 she moved to Augusta to be near her family. She moved to Lake Point Nursing Center in 1997.
Marten was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Winfield.
Survivors include a son, Marty Marten, Lafayette, Colo.; a daughter, Marilynn Skaer, Augusta; two sisters, Zeoda Congram, Blackwell, Okla., and Pearl Lesser, Cherry Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Angela Belew
ALVA, Okla. - Angela Belew, 46, of Alva, Okla., died July 11, 2001, at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to noon Monday.
Belew was born Aug. 9, 1954, in Albuquerque, N.M., to Annette (Franklin) and Eldon Belew. As a child, she moved to Burden where she was educated.
On Nov. 10, 1973, she married Everett Dwaine Weathers in Coffeyville. The couple moved to Winfield where she was a full-time homemaker.
In 1982 she moved to Cherokee, Okla., and resided there until 1998 when she moved to Alva.
Survivors include a son, Jason Weathers, Alva; three daughters, Laura Ortiz, Cherokee, and Christie Cunningham and Jennifer Weathers, both; her mother, Annette Reynolds, Burden; a brother, Bill Wheat, Australia; two sisters, Susan Phillips, Winfield, and Melanie Haury, Lawton, Okla; and five grandchildren.
Kelly Sanders
WICHITA - Kelly Sanders, 41, of Wichita, died July 12, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be at 6 in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Sanders was born Sept. 4, 1959, in Winfield, to Maxine (Gurnee) and Clarence Widener. She was raised and educated in Winfield.
On Nov. 22, 1983, she married Stephen S. Sanders II in Perry, Okla. They resided in various locations, including Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, California, Missouri and Tennessee. A homemaker, she had also been employed as a nurse's aide and a housekeeper.
Survivors include her husband, Stephen S. Sanders II, Wichita; a son, Bobby Wayne Gooch, Fairfax, Okla.; two daughters, Ramona Sue Gutierrez, Wichita, and Jessica Erin Gooch, address not given; two sisters, Cinda Adams, Winfield, and Connie Brooks, address not given; six brothers, Larry, Lenny and Ricky Widener, all of Winfield, and Terry Widener, Cody Widener and Jeff Widener, addresses not given; and two grandchildren.
Donald Lallman
UDALL - Services for Donald G. Lallman were held at 10 a.m. July 14, 2001, in Udall Cemetery. The Rev. Nancy Blane officiated.
Music included "If You Could See Me Now" and "Amazing Grace."
Members of Winfield Lodge 110 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons performed committal rites. Ben Holman was the lecturer.
A memorial has been established with SCCS Hospice, Derby.

Harriett Brown
ARKANSAS CITY - Harriett June Brown, 61, homemaker, of Arkansas City, died July 11, 2001, at her home.
Cremation has been effected. A private inurnment will take place later.
A memorial has been established with the Hospice Chapter of Kansas and may be sent in care of Hawks Funeral Home, 906 W. Kansas, Arkansas City, KS 67005.
Brown was born May 23, 1940, in Dallas, to Russell Lee (Rowley) and Luther Johnson Caldwell.
She married Morris Brown in Metairie, La. He died May 22, 1990.
Survivors include her mother, Russell Lee Caldwell, Arkansas City; and a sister, Ann Wheeler, Naples, Fla.
Elmer Griffith
Elmer C. Griffith, 78, of 917 Ann, Winfield, died July 13, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery
with military honors and Masonic rites.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Family members will greet friends from 7 to 8:30.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home Activity Fund, 1220 World War II Blvd., Winfield, KS 67156.
Griffith was born May 25, 1923, in Winfield, to Laura Irena (Evans) and Ralph I. Griffith. He was raised and educated in Winfield and attended Southwestern College and Wichita State University.
During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps.
On Feb. 18, 1963, he married Sylvia Nahnsen in Miami, Okla.
A lifelong resident of Winfield, he worked for Boeing in Wichita for several years and then for Winfield State Hospital and Training Center as fire chief and head of security. He retired in 1986.
Griffith was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars and past commander of the VFW Third District.
A daughter, Susan Griffith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Griffith, Winfield; five sons, Paul and Brian Griffith, both of Winfield, Roger Griffith, Ashland, Neb., David Griffith, Baltimore, Md., and Thomas Griffith, Killeen, Texas; a brother, Donald Griffith, Tulsa; two sisters, Dorothy Cleverdon, Andover, and Etha Harding, Woodward, Okla.; and several grandchildren.
