Earl Stewart
Earl Winston Stewart, 80, of Winfield, died Nov. 27, 2001, at Wichita Specialty Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. The family will hold services in Elsmore Cemetery
at noon Dec. 6. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Stewart was born April 12, 1921, in South Greenfield, Mo., to Monta (Stanley) and Harry J. Stewart. When he was a child, the family moved to Elsmore where he graduated from high school. As a young man he worked as a truck driver.
On March 16, 1944, he married Mary Susan Stewart in Erie. They moved to California shortly after they married. They moved to Chanute in 1952, then to Kansas City, Mo., a short time later. Stewart was a taxi cab driver for over 27 years before his retirement.
The Stewarts moved to Winfield in 1983. He wife died April 29, 1998.
Survivors include four sons, George R. Stewart, Winfield, Stan Stewart, Americas, Allen Stewart, Canisville, Mo., and Paul Stewart, Cabazon, Calif.; a daughter, Lynne Sutton, Rantoul; five sisters, Mildred Beltz, Humboldt, Rosemary Wood, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Iris Troxel, Iola, Diane Tennison, Lafayette, La., and Judy Hammond, Fritch, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Gayle Fussell
ARKANSAS CITY - Joseph Gayle Fussell, 84, longtime resident of rural Arkansas City and retired owner of Fussell Construction Co., died Nov. 28, 2001, at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Southern Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Spencer Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254 will provide military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Fussell was born Nov. 15, 1917, in Hutchinson, to Tessia (Cowgill) and Joseph Reed Fussell. He was raised and educated in Medicine Lodge.
During World War II, he served with the 343rd Ordnance Depot Co./314 Infantry Service Co. in England, the Rhineland, Austria and Utah Beach in northern France.
On Oct. 19, 1947, Fussell married Helen (Hise) Reed in Medicine Lodge. They established their home in Arkansas City.
Fussell was an active member and volunteer at the First Southern Baptist Church. He was also associated with Spencer Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1254 and American Legion Post 18.
Two sons preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Fussell, Arkansas City; four daughters, Pauline Maize, Pierre, S.D., Joann Bazil, Arvada, Colo., Doris Arey, Weatherford, Texas, and Linda Hover, Red River, N.M.; a brother, Neal Fussell, Medicine Lodge; five sisters, Nora Hopkins, Thelma Wortman, Medicine Lodge, Charlotte Manke, Jean Hakinson, Anthony, and Mary Wilson, Alva, Okla.; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Glen Atkinson
Services for Glen S. Atkinson were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 28, 2001, at Tisdale United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ellie Foster and Lyle Miller officiated, and Keith Anglemyer was the organist.
Winfield American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 provided military honors in Tisdale Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Harold Cook and Don Roberts. Casket bearers were Eric, Stephen, Mark, Keith and Gregg Atkinson and Phillip Miller.
Memorials have been established with the Salvation Army and the American Diabetes Association.

Millard Kittelson
Services for Millard D. Kittelson were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 29, 2001, at the First Baptist Church. Dr. James M. McIntosh Jr. officiated. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery
with military honors provided by American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544.
Marilyn Buffum was the organist, and Martin Rude was the vocalist. Music included "Good Night, Irene," "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "Amazing Grace."
Honorary casket bearers were Robyn Knowles, Angela and Krisa Kittelson, Veronica Bullman, Ashley Davis, Adrian Sandovel, Jennifer and Michelle Ross, Grace Short, Laura Leiker, Dale Hostetter, Norman Payne, Darrel Pearce and Robert Nichols.
Casket bearers were Jim, Randy, Ron and Elan Kittelson, Jeff and Gabriel Wacker, Lonnie Knowles and Jake Jacobs.
Memorials have been established with the Kansas Veterans Home and the First Baptist Church.

Margie Bradbury
Services for Margie Lorene Bradbury were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 29, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Gerald Graber officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Special music included "Wind Beneath My Wings," performed by Bette Midler, "One More Day," by Diamond Rio, and "Amazing Grace," by Cristy Lane.
Casket bearers were Doug Cales, Keith Hyatt, Tracey Isom and Christopher, Mark and Patrick Roark.
Memorials have been established with Central Baptist Church and the National Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
Delores English
ARKANSAS CITY - Delores Fay English, 69, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 29, 2001, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Silverdale Cemetery. The Rev. John Brungardt will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
English was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Silverdale, to Ethel I. (Crabtree) and Leroy Pingry. She was raised and educated in Arkansas City.
In 1952 she married Robert E. English in Arkansas. He preceded her in death.
She worked as a certified nurse's assistant at several area nursing homes.
English was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, James English, Arkansas City; a daughter, Theresa Cosby, Winfield; a brother, Charles Pingry, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Fern Matthews and Helen Cooley, both of Arkansas City; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Easter Truax
STILLWATER, Okla. - Easter "Esther" Truax, 86, formerly of Shidler, Okla., died Nov. 27, 2001, at Stillwater Medical Center.
A luncheon will be held at noon Saturday at the Ponca City Country Club, and the family invites relatives and friends to attend. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. in the Shidler Methodist Church. The Rev. Ruth Tipps will officiate. Burial was Nov. 28 in Burbank, Okla. Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax, Okla., was in charge of arrangements.
Truax was born in Oronogo, Mo., to Mellie (Qualls) and Charles Fredrick Cole. She graduated from Shidler High School in 1933 and worked as a doctor's receptionist in Shidler.
On June 14, 1935, she married George William Truax in Winfield. Her husband died Sept. 14, 1978.
A homemaker, Truax was a member of the Shidler Methodist Church, the American Genealogy Association and the American Red Cross.
Survivors include three daughters, Julia Maltby, Winfield, Patricia J. Houston, Stillwater, Okla., and Carol Braun, Hobart, Okla.; a son, William A. Truax, Clarksville, Tenn.; a brother, Charles F. Cole, Ponca City; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Ruth Ward
Ruth Ann Ward, 57, of 406 Bliss, Winfield, died Nov. 29, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Cremation will take place after the service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and until service time Monday.
A memorial has been established with SCCS Home Health & Hospice PA of Derby. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Ward was born Nov. 16, 1944, in Waynesburg, Pa., to Catherine (Merriman) and John Glendenning. She was raised in Greene County, Pa., and Avella, Pa.
On July 24, 1970, she married William W. Ward in Upper Marlboro, Md. They made their home in many places, including Frederick, Md., Washington, Pa., and the Avella, Pa., area. In 1993 they moved to Aurora, Mo., and then in 1997 to Winfield.
A homemaker, Ward was a member of the First Christian Church of Middletown, Pa.
Survivors include her husband, William Ward, and four sons, John, William M., Billy Ray and Francis Ward, all of Winfield; a brother, Fred Shaffer, Avella, Pa.; two sisters, Virginia Glendenning, Fairmont, W.Va., and Peggy Banovich, Avella, Pa.; and nine grandchildren.
Howard Davis
DOUGLASS - Howard E. Davis, 83, of Douglass, died Nov. 29, 2001, at Douglass Medicalodge.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta.
Memorial donations are requested to Hospice Care of Kansas.
Davis was born April 27, 1918, north of Douglass, to Nannie and Frank Davis. He graduated from Douglass High School in 1936.
During World War II Davis served as a flight traffic clerk in the United States Air Force.
On Nov. 13, 1946, he married Dorothy Tillery in Wichita.
Davis was a mail carrier for 20 years in Borger, Texas, and Grand Junction, Colo. He also worked as a machinist at Tweco Products in Wichita until he retired in 1986.
A son, Bryan Davis, died in 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Davis, Douglass; two sons, Curtis Davis, Wichita, and Stacy Davis, Douglass; a brother, Donald Davis, Augusta; and four grandchildren.
Ruth Woodward
ARKANSAS CITY - Services for Ruth L. Woodward were held at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 29, 2001, in Hawks Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Lance Carrithers officiated. Burial was in Parker Cemetery.
Melba Maechtlen was the organist, and Viola McMahon was the vocalist. Music included "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas.
