DEBBIE DICK

LIBERAL -- Debbie Dick, 51, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She was born Aug. 13, 1948, to Paul and Betty J. (Brewer) Cerveniski in Liberal.

She married Butch Dick Sept. 3, 1966, in Liberal.

She graduated from the Liberal High School in 1966 and attended Seward County Community College in Liberal. She went on to receive a degree in accounting from Wichita State University. She worked for Anadarko Petroleum Corp. for 10 years and for Seward County Community College.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberal.

Survivors include one daughter, Kim Obholz and her husband, Larry, Liberal; her mother, Betty J. Pennington, Sun City, Ariz.; one brother, Gary Pennington and his wife, Sherri, Liberal; and one granddaughter, Kera Obholz.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Brewer and her stepfather, Ralph Pennington.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Miller Mortuary Chapel in Liberal, with the Rev. Phil Shull presiding. Burial will be at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal.

Friends may call at the Miller Mortuary from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters in care of Miller Mortuary, P.O. Box 826, Liberal KS 67905-0826.

RICHARD T. LEWIS

LIBERAL -- Richard T. (Dick) Lewis, 79, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

He was born March 22, 1920, to John H. and Lucille R. (Towler) Lewis in Lakin.

He married Gail Amos in August 1941 in Washington State. She survives.

He grew up in Grant County and went to school at District 10 Country School and Ulysses Rural High School in Ulysses. He was a resident of Hugoton for the past 30 years.

He was a pilot, an aviation instructor and an agricultural spray pilot in the southwest Kansas and Wichita areas. He served in the third Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Hugoton VFW.

Other survivors include two sons, Richard E. Lewis and wife, Verda, Park City, Utah, and Leon L. Lewis and wife, Lynn, Chelsea, Mich.; one daughter, Catherine Clark and husband, Larry, Hugoton; one brother, Edward Lewis, Ulysses; two sisters, Myrtle Ferris, Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mable Petet, Uehling, Neb.; five grandchildren, John, Wayne and Tyler Lewis and Mark and Matthew Clark; and two great-grandchildren, Dalton and Austin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John W. Lewis and one brother, Doug Lewis.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Rev. Larry Bradford presiding. Burial will follow at the Ulysses Cemtery in Ulysses.

Friends may call at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and

at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to the VFW Children's Home in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.

NAOMI B. SIMMONS

HUGOTON -- Naomi Blanche Simmons, 83, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at the Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton.

She was born Sept. 7, 1916, to James Wesley and Mary Zepha (Frazee) Lowry in St. John.

She married Ross Albert Simmons Feb. 20, 1938, in Syracuse. He survives.

She spent 13 years in northwest Arkansas, but lived most of her life in Stevens and Morton counties.

She was a housewife and cooked for hired men on the farm.

She was a member of the First Church of God in Hugoton and the A-Muse-U Club of Dermot Community in Morton County. She taught Sunday school for many years.

Other survivors include one daughter, Connie Swinney, Hugoton; one sister, Sarah Etta Reynolds, Hugoton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Church of God in Hugoton. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton.

The family suggests memorials to the donors choice, in care of Paul's Funeral Home, 314 S. Van Buren St., Hugoton, KS 67951.

JACOB F. BALZER

HILLSBORO -- Jacob F. Balzer, 97, Hillsboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Hillsboro Community Medical Center.

Funeral services are pending with Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.

RICHARD E. HOLMES

LARNED -- Richard E. Holmes, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Larned Healthcare and Living Center, Larned.

He was born Jan. 5, 1925, to Charles E. and Margery (Gullett) Holmes in Trego County.

He had been a resident of Larned since 1970, when he moved from Plains.

He was a retired pharmacist.

He was a member of Plains Christian Church, Plains; American Legion, Larned; and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter, Great Bend.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He married Henrietta B. Parks May 31, 1945, at Great Bend. She died March 14, 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas G., Great Bend, and Dan, Wichita; three daughters, Kristine Holmes and Kathy Holmes, both of Topeka, and Belinda Holmes Egger, Olathe; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Lee, and 12 brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with the Rev. Gene Price presiding. Inurnment will be at Ransom Cemetery, Ransom.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the Welcome Inn Senior Center, in care of Morell Funeral Home, Box 124, Larned, KS 67550-0124.

RUTH LAVERNE HARPOLE

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Ruth La-Verne Harpole, 85, former Liberal resident, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Saint Francis Nursing Home in Memphis.

She was born Jan. 19, 1914, in Paragould, Ark.

She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse from Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.

She lived at Park Lane Towers in Liberal after her retirement until she moved to Memphis.

She was affiliated with the Baptist church.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia McCrarey, Memphis; one son, Emil J. Zundel, Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Mary Jane Boycourt, Belleville, Ill., and Martha Lou Ward, Orlando; two grandchildren, Donna Zundel and Nick Zundel, both of Amarillo; and three great-grandchildren, Kourtaney Rice, Dylan Parker and Dakota Parker, all of Amarillo.

Funeral services were Jan. 12 in Paragould, with the Rev. Ken Flynn presiding. Burial was at Linwood Cemetery in Paragould.

JACOB F. BALZER

HILLSBORO -- Jacob F. Balzer, 97, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Hillsboro Community Medical Center in Hillsboro.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Adams Mennonite Brethren Church in Adams, Okla., with the Rev. Tim Sullivan, pastor of Park View Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro, presiding.

Burial will be at the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery near Adams, under the direction of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla.

LINDA GRACE ROGERS

MEADE -- Linda Grace Rogers, 54, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at her home in Meade.

She was born July 30, 1945, to Charles Martel and Ethel Pearl (Taggart) Rogers in Elkhart.

She was a 1963 graduate of Macksville High School. She was the manager of Taylor Mart and lived in Mead the majority of her life.

She attended the First Baptist Church of Meade.

Survivors include two brothers, Charles Rogers, Ashland and Ralph Rogers, Dodge City; one sister, Wanda Journagan, Meade; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Meade, with the Rev. Harry Fink presiding.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday at Fidler Orme Mortuary in Meade.

Burial will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Meade.

The family suggests memorials to KJIL/KHYM Great Plains Christian Radio in care of Fidler-Orme Mortuary, P.O. Box F, 212 S. Fowler St., Meade, KS 67864.
