PEARL LANDURETH
EL PASO, Texas -- Pearl Woodward Landureth, 94, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002.
She was a resident of Midland, Texas, and Odessa, Texas, for 34 years. She and her family lived in Liberal from 1953 to 1969.
She was a member of The Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord.
Survivors include two sons, William C. Landureth and wife, Shirley, Midland, and John S. Landureth and wife, Mary, Laverne, Okla.; five daughters, Daisy L. Hobson, Odessa, Dora M. Waldrop, Tulsa, Okla., Betty E. Sheilds and husband, Ed, and Linda Taylor and husband, Ron, all of Amarillo, Texas; and Kathy Kimberline and husband, Mike, Las Vegas; two brothers, Irvin Woodward, Anthony, N.M., and A.D. Woodward and wife, Elsie, Berino, N.M.; one sister, Ruby E. Warren, Illinois; and 67 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Anthony Cemetery
in Anthony with the Pastor Curtis Bently presiding.
Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Midland, 711 West Texas, Midland, TX, 79701.
Arrangements were by Kaster-Maxon and Futrell Funeral Home in El Paso.
CLAIRE I. DUNLOP
PLAINS -- Claire I. Dunlop. 90, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
She was born May 28, 1912, to Thomas and Martha McCloskey in Walnut.
She married Lloyd William Dunlop May 31, 1932 in Walnut. He died Mar. 27, 1975.
She had been a resident of Plains since 1932, and a former teacher, having taught at rural schools in Crawford and Neosho County before her marriage.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Saint Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society, both in Plains.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Dunlop, Buena Vista, Colo., and William Dunlop, Topeka; two daughters, Jean Scott, Wichita, and Brenda Knott, Meade; one sister, Cleo Purdon, Kansas City, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by parents, one son, Norman Dunlop; one daughter, Shirley Hewes on Sept. 10, 1999; five sisters, Rose Kennedy, Helen Frechin, Ruth Fugate, Blanche Whalen, and Viola Ahem.
Memorial vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Meade.
Holy Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Father Frances Stuart presiding.
A private family inurnment will follow the service.
Cremation has already taken place.

GERALD D. ROUSE
ULYSSES -- Gerald Duane Rouse, 84, Ulysses, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses.
He was born Sept. 17, 1918, to Leonard and Etta M. (Pentico) Rouse in Kanorado.
He married Roberta Crocker Sept. 1, 1942, in Colorado Springs, Colo. She survives.
He graduated from Goodland High School in Goodland, and attended two years on the Seminary in Colorado Springs.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He had been a resident of Ulysses since 1947, where he worked at the Crocker Theater for 12 years. He was parts manager at Grant County Implement until retiring after 26 years. He was also a cabinet maker and carpenter.
He was a member of Charles B. Hart American Legion Post No. 79, and he was a member of First United Methodist Church, both of Ulysses.
Other survivors include one daughter, Marsha Sherrod, Joplin, Mo.; one brother, Harold Rouse, Liberal; five grandchildren, Valerie Smith, Pamela Zicker, Danielle Sherrod, Nicole Sherrod, and Jordan Sherrod; and three great-grandchildren, Curtis, Cailyn and Lydia Zicker.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Smith.
Funeral Service were at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with the Rev. Dennis H. Livingston residing. Burial followed at Ulysses Cemetery
in Ulysses, with military graveside rights by Charles B. Hart American Legion Post. No. 79.

CLARENCE HILYARD JR.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Clarence "Whitie" Hilyard, 76, formerly of El Dorado, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Nov. 18, 1926, to Clarence and Ruth (Foster) Hilyard in Braman, Okla.
He married Nadine Carson in 1945 in Stafford. She died in 1975.
He married Janice Barger Jones in 1975 in Las Vegas. She survives.
He moved with his family to many towns in Kansas and Oklahoma due to the oil industry. He worked with his brothers and father in the casing business as a young boy.
At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as a gunner's mate on the U.S.S. Colorado, serving in 16 major engagements in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received many medals including the Purple Heart.
He owned and operated Whi Mar Drilling Co., and for 35 years, owned and operated Western Bit and Supply Inc. in Garden City and Ponca City, Okla.
He had also lived in Liberal, Hutchinson, El Dorado, Wichita, Sarasota, Fla., and Jacksonville.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Shrine Club, and KIOGA.
He attended First Christian Church in El Dorado.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golf, and mentoring to family and friends.
Other survivors include one son, Mark Hilyard and wife, Shelley, Ponca City;three daughters, Jann Ziegler and husband, Rod, El Dorado, Sue Johnson and Elissa Hilyard, both of Wichita; grandchildren Brad, Regan and Ryan Ziegler, Dallas; Alex Miller and Brooke Andrews; John, Sarah and Ethan Hilyard; and Garret and Ross Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Kaiden McIntosh; Jack, Carson, Adam and Maggie Ziegler; and Logan Miller.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church in El Dorado.
Burial will follow at Stafford Cemetery
in Stafford.

BERNADINE G. ROTH
PLAINS -- Bernadine G. "Sue" Roth, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 22. 2002, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
She was born March 16, 1913, to John K. and Anna M. (Theis) Bihn in Medina, Ohio.
She married Elmer John Roth Jan. 20, 1953, in Plains. He died Nov. 9, 1997.
She had been a resident of Plains for 60 years, and she was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Altar Society, both in Plains.
Survivors include one sister, Dolores Smyth, Homassa Springs, Fla.
She was also preceded in death by her parents,; six brothers, and seven sisters.
Rosary will be at 2:15 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Plains.
Holy Mass will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Plains with the Father Frances Stuart presiding.
Burial will be at Plains Cemetery
in Plains.

MARY E. JONES
Johnson -- Mary Ellen Jones, 74, Johnson, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born April 6, 1928, to Merle and Noreen (Holmes) Dailey.
She married Ray E. Jones March 6, 1959, in Garden City. He survives.
She spent the early years in Garden City until moving in 1956 to Johnson. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Futorum Club, and a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader.
She was also a member of Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses.
Her hobbies included working on ceramics and spending time at Stanton County Senior Center.
Other survivors include one son, Mike Jones, Wichita; one daughter, Carolyn Layman, Dodge City; two brothers, Eldon Daily, Garden City, and Richard Dailey, Loveland, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses with the Rev. Bill Harrold presiding.
Graveside and burial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Valley View Cemetery
in Garden City.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.

SIERRA C. WINTERS
Johnson -- Sierra Cheyenne Winters, 19 months, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, after a lengthy illness at her home in Johnson.
She was born May 22, 2001, to Tom and Cindy K. (Morris) Winters in Wichita.
Survivors include her parents; two half-brothers, John P Winters and Chance E. Winters, both of Calhan, Colo.; grandparents, Ed Winters, Pawhuska, Okla., Bob and Faye Stitzel, Osbourne, and Jim and Velma Morris, Ulysses; great-grandparents, Velmer and Christine Wise, Ulysses, and Earl and Nita Eaton, Osbourne; and numerous other relatives.
She was preceded in death by one half-sister, Debra Winters; great-grandmother, Lena Winters; and great-grandmother, Bernita Jones.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Nazarene in Ulysses with the Rev. Richard Stafford presiding.
Burial will be at Stanton County Cemetery
in Johnson.
