Minnie Pinion, 80, of Kimper, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2004, at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky

Born April 2, 1924, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late Johnny and Pricey Leedy, she was a homemaker and a member of Meathouse Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Pinion; and sons, Ed and Dover Pinion.

Surviving are her sons, Elmer (Zella) Pinion of Kimper, Kentucky, Johnny (Carolyn) Pinion of Upper Pompey, Kentucky, Donnie (Barbara) Pinion of Kimper, Kentucky and Randy (Angie) Rhodes of Kimper, Kentucky; daughters, Arizona (Bill) Rhodes of Kimper, Kentucky, Edna (Kenneth) Turnmire of Kimper, Kentucky, Stella (Boyd) Anderson of Kimper, Kentucky, Loraine (Donnie) Layne of Kimper, Kentucky, Louise (Donnie) Boyd of Lower Johns Creek, Kentucky and Melinda (Timothy) Layne of Kimper, Kentucky; 27 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 2004, 11 a.m., at Community Funeral Home, Pikeville, Kentucky with T.I. Runyon, Blake Layne, Bruce Anderson and Clyder Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Layne cemetery, Kimper, Kentucky

Visitation will be held beginning December 8, 2004, 6 p.m., at Community Funeral Home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Community Funeral Home, Zebulon Highway, Pikeville, Kentucky

Mary Lou Runyon
Mary Lou Runyon, 74, of Pinsonfork, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 6, 2004. She was a patient at The Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Pikeville, Kentucky and was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.

She was born on November 4, 1930 at Huddy, Kentucky to the late William "Brown" Howard and Grace (Smith) O'Bryan. She was a Christian and a member of the McVeigh Missionary Baptist Church.

Her life revolved around her home and family. Her heart and home were always open to family and friends and she was never happier than when her family was gathered around the table enjoying dinner. After her mother died in 1977, Mary Lou took over the responsibility being mother and grandmother. She prepared meals not only for her immediate family but also for the ten brothers and sisters and their families as they traveled from various states.

Friends and neighbors joined them for the holidays down through the years to renew old friendships. She was noted for her chicken and dumplings and homemade donuts.

Mary Lou was a deeply devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She always had time to listen and talk. She had a special relationship with each of her grandchildren and was proud of their accomplishments in both academics and sports. She served as a role model to all who knew her, whether they were a family member, teacher, friend or dedicated Christian. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bobby Leland Runyon; two sons, Charles Robert Runyon and wife, Kim and Richard L. "Pete" Runyon and wife, Ruby; and five grandchildren, Lesley Michelle Runyon, Richard "Brandon" Runyon Dana Marie Runyon, Robert Thomas Runyon and Mason Tyler Runyon; seven sisters, Mae Stallard (WV), Sue Scott (KY), Shirl Turner (UT), Janet Runyon (MI), Barbara Abshire (KY), Margaret Stanley (KY) and Linda O'Bryan (KY); and three brothers, Frank O'Brien (KY), John O'Bryan (MI) and Joe O'Bryan (MI); and a host of 40 or more nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou was a born teacher at home as well as in the classroom. Her door was always open to students who needed help with their studies as well as for individuals who needed a place to stay. May Lou will be remembered as a wonderful teacher who devoted herself to making each student in her class feel that they were important. Over her 41 years of teaching experience, she made an impact on many young people who have shared with her the difference she has made in their lives. She served as substitute teacher for 18 years of her teaching career with the 22-1/2 years as a teacher at Runyon Elementary School.

She was a 1947 graduate of Belfry High School. She received her B.A. from Morehead University in 1975 and her Master's Degree and Rank I from Pikeville College.

Mary Lou was very involved in community activities, and served as a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 533, Stone, Kentucky, in addition to being a 25-year member and the Treasurer for the last 7-1/2 years. She was a charter member of the Belfry DAVA, Chapter 141, where she served as the Adjunctant Treasurer. She won the Kentucky State Club Woman of the Year Award in 2000. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004 at Rogers Funeral Home with Bob Werntz and Tommy Reed officiating with interment following at Smith cemetery at Sidney, Kentucky

Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday night and Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home with Eastern Star services at 7 p.m. Wednesday night and special services Thursday night at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mary Lou Runyon Memorial Scholarship Fund, First National Bank of Williamson, W.Va.

Dreama Curry

Dreama Sue Curry, 53, of Somerset, Kentucky, formerly of Taylorville, W.Va., passed away Friday, December 3, 2004, at Somerset, Kentucky

Born September 1, 1952, in Logan, W.Va., to the late Walker Crum and Muriel Steele Crum, she was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. She was a graduate of Burch High School.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harold Justice; and husband, David Wesley Curry.

Surviving are her sons, Wayne (Tiny) Curry of Nancy, Kentucky and David Curry of Somerset, Kentucky; daughter, Kristie Carroll (Jason Pawczuk) of Sevierville, Tenn.; brothers, Mingo County Magistrate Eugene (Rosie) Crum of Taylorville, W.Va., Freddie (Kathy) Crum of Bishop, Va., Denny Crum of Somerset, Kentucky and Jeff Justice of George West, Texas; sister, Shyrl (the late Carlos) Jackson of Somerset, Kentucky; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 2004, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ricky Jason and Rev. Burton Murphy officiating with interment following at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W.Va.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Judge Michael Thornsbury, Bill Davis, Troy Carter, Hootie Smith, Tommy Diamond, Stuart Harper and Halcy Hatfield.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Kentucky

Evelyn Trout

Evelyn Marie (Allen) Trout, 93, of the Pikeville Health Care Nursing Home, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2004, at the Pikeville Health Care Center.

Born February 8, 1911 in Cambrake, Va., to the late Jasper Allen and Sadie Starr Allen, she was a homemaker and a member of Belfry Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Lee Trout; one son; one daughter; one grandson; two great grandchildren; two sisters; and three brothers.

Surviving are her three sons, Bob (Mitizie) Trout of Huntington, W.Va., Jim (Janet) Trout of Pikeville, Kentucky and David (Melody) Trout of Charlotte, N.C.; six daughters, Carol Ann Trout of Pikeville, Kentucky, Betty Lockard of Belfry, Kentucky, Pat McGuire of Erlanger, Kentucky, Dottie (Bob) Zanders of Independence, Kentucky, Brenda (Bruce) Smith of Columbus, Ohio and Linda (Danny) Williamson of Huddy, Kentucky; 29 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2004, 1 p.m., at Belfry Freewill Baptist church with Buddy Kendrick officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Huddy, Kentucky Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with special services at 7 p.m. with Donnie Williamson and from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Carlos Jackson

Carlos Jackson, 57, of Prather Road, Somerset, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 3, 2004, at his residence due to an accident.

Born June 29, 1947, in McCarr, Kentucky, to the late Charlie Jackson and Alzady (Tyler) Jackson, he was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Fundamental Christian Church-West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Conrad Jackson; two sisters, Magline Jackson and Zola Mae Jackson.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Shyrl (Crum) Jackson of Somerset, Kentucky; daughters, Carla Adkins of Somerset, Kentucky, Debra Bottoms of Danville, Kentucky and Thera Dockery of Shopville, Kentucky; brother, Charles Eugene Jackson of Somerset, Kentucky; sister, Ruth Gaye Parks of Palmera, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Tyler Hadley, Ryan Hadley, Ashley Bottoms and Michael Dockery.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2004, 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, Kentucky with Bro. Burton Murphy and Bro. Ricky Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Science Hill cemetery, Science Hill, Kentucky

Friends may call beginning Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, KY 42553.

Tammy Cooley
Tammy Gail Cooley, 39, of Lowmansville, Kentucky, formerly of Delbarton, W.Va., passed away Friday, Dec. 3, 2004.

She was born Dec. 23, 1964, at Martinsville, Va., the daughter of Dixie Evans Tackett and the late William Harold Tackett.

Mrs. Cooley was also preceded in death by one brother, Sandy Tackett; and one nephew, Nathaniel Tackett.

She was a homemaker.

Additional survivors include her husband, Taby Lee Cooley; three sons, Luther Scott Cooley, Joshua Wilson Cooley and Christopher Dan Cooley, all of Lowmansville, Kentucky; two brothers, Kenneth E. Tackett of Delbarton, W.Va., and Michael Tackett of Colorado; two sisters, Deborah Denise Tackett of Morgantown, W.Va., and Connie Lynn Gibson of Louisa, Kentucky

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel in Delbarton, W.Va., with the Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Memory Gardens at Maher, W.Va.

Friends may call from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at the funeral home.

Chafin Funeral Home in Delbarton, W.Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Thursa Daugherty
Thursa Daugherty, 98, of Phelps, Kentucky, died Friday, December 3, 2004, in the Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born March 26, 1906, she was a daughter of the late Hiram Daugherty and Plina Looney.

She was preceded in death by husband, Paris Daugherty and two grandsons.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Jamboree Church of God where she was a charter member.

She is survived by daughter, Betty Osborne of Ohio; three sons, Ervin (Molly) Daugherty of Phelps, Kentucky, Cecil (Othella) Daugherty of Ohio, and Kenneth (Joyce) Daugherty of Virginia; one sister, Cora Taylor of Phelps, Kentucky; 12 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Jamboree Church of God, with Rev. Willie Gordon and Marvin Casey officiating.

Burial will follow at the Daugherty Family cemetery at Phelps, Kentucky

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home of Phelps, Kentucky

Lorene Hatfield
Lorene Hatfield, 82, of Hatfield, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at Skilled Nursing Facility, Appalachian Regional Hospital.

Born May 1, 1922, in Martin County, Kentucky, to the late Orison Runyon and Josie Horn Runyon, she was a homemaker. Lorene was a member of Philadelphia United Baptist Church of Zion.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen "Giant" Hatfield; son, Billy B. Hatfield; daughter, Glennis Rose Hatfield; brothers, Conard Runyon, George Runyon and Hobert Runyon; sisters, Myrtle Whitt and Vicie Lucas; and an infant sister.

Surviving are her brother, Ballard Runyon of Martin County, Kentucky; sisters, Ressie Parsley of Williamson, W.Va., Ruby A. Francis of Hatfield, Kentucky and Sarah "Sis" Maynard of West Williamson, W.Va.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Runyon officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Kentucky Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home, 12 - 2 p.m., Saturday, December 4, 2004.

Johnny Adams
Johnny N. Adams, 62, of Kimper, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004.

He was born March 3, 1942, in Letcher County, Kentucky, to Andrew Adams and Buena Justice Adams.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, 1 p.m., at Justice Funeral Home with Primitive Baptist Ministers Robert Worrix, David Coleman and Noah Slone officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young cemetery, Pikeville, Kentucky

Visitation will be held at the chapel Friday evening, 5 p.m. for family, 6 p.m. for friends. Service will be held at 7 p.m.

Willard Blankenship, 78, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Pike County, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 29, 2004, in Columbus, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, 12 noon, at Lick Creek Holiness Church of God, Lick Creek, Kentucky with burial following at the Rose Hill cemetery, Mouthcard, Kentucky

Born January 14, 1921, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late George Washington and Dixie May, he was a World War II veteran and a member of the U.M.W.A. Local 8588.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude May.

Surviving are his daughters, Carla Starr of Russell Springs, Kentucky and Angie May of Lexington, Kentucky; sister Maxine O'Berg of Frenchburg, Kentucky; grandchildren, Erik McHatton of Russell Springs, Kentucky, Charles Starr of Russell Springs, Kentucky and Tyler May of Lexington, Kentucky; and great grandchildren, Ezekiel Lopes of Lexington, Kentucky and Kyle McHatton of Russell Springs, Kentucky
