John A. Dupont

TELL CITY, Ind. -- John A. Dupont, 79, of Tell City died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System from a cerebral hemorrhage. The Perry County, Ind., native retired from Willamette Industries in 1986 after 19 years of service as a millwright. He had served on the Tell City and Perry County councils. He was a staff sergeant in the Army during World War II and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. His wife, Virginia Simpson Dupont, died in 1983.

Survivors include three sons, John Ray Dupont, Franklin D. Dupont and Barry S. Dupont, all of Tell City; two daughters, Charlotte L. Johnson of Cannelton, Ind., and Virginia O'Dell of Tell City; and seven grandchildren.

Services are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Huber Funeral Home in Tell City. Prayers and a Knights of Columbus service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Right to Life or St. Paul Catholic Church.

Betty June Johnson
(July 13, 1932 - September 7, 2015)

Betty June Johnson, 83, of Bowling Green died September 7, 2015 at Hospice of Southern Kentucky. The Mayfield, Kentucky native was a daughter to the late Harry D. Madding and Bobby A. Madding. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Johnson; one sister, Shirley A. Smith; two brothers, Harry J. Madding and Jimmy L. Madding. Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Wingo High school, class of 1951. She was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. She was a mother, wife, sister, and a friend. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly K. West of Leander, TX, and Kimberly A. Ralph of Austin, TX; one son, Michael H. Johnson, D.C. of Bowling Green, KY; one brother, Morris H. Madding of Mayfield, KY; and seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn E. West of Murray, KY, Nathan A. West of Prescott, Arizona, Ethan Z. West of Brownwood, TX, Grace A. West of Leander, TX, Eden A. Ralph of Rockhill, SC, Dane P. Ralph of Austin, TX, and Savannah J. Ralph of Austin, TX. A graveside service is scheduled for 12:00pm on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge cemetery in Big Sandy, TN. Visitation will be from 5:00pm-8:00pm Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

M. Loretta Sandidge
(March 4, 1929 - September 4, 2015)

M. Loretta Sandidge, 86, of Bowling Green died September 4, 2015 at her residence. The Warren County native was a daughter of the late Albert Lloyd Sandidge and Elsie Runner Sandidge. She was retired from Fruit of the Loom after 45 years of employment. Survivors include her brother, Franklin (Sonny) Sandidge of Bowling Green; two sisters, Dorothy Willoughby and Juleda Lawson both of Bowling Green; one nephew and two nieces, she helped raise, Rodney Lawson, Pam Howard and Sandra Sandidge all of Bowling Green; six grand-nieces and grand-nephews she was involved with, Kristie Sandidge, Justin Sandidge, Tyler Lawson, Shelly Lay Arndell, Brad Howard and Jeremy Howard all of Bowling Green; and five great grand-nieces and great grand-nephews, Hailey Sandidge, Kolby Howard, Brittaney Lay, Corey Lay and Addy Howard. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday, September 7, 2015 and from 9:00 am until service time on Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. Holbert Mitchell Kirkman

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Holbert Mitchell Kirkman, 79, of Tell City died there Saturday, May 19, 2001, at his home. The Todd County native retired from W.R. Grace and attended the Pentecostal Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. His wife, Emily Faye Kirkman, died in 1978.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Estelle J. Kirkman; three sons, Timothy Mitchell Kirkman, Randy Ford and Tony D. Ford, all of Owensboro; three daughters, Deneda Faye Hillegas of Henderson, Darlena K. Magnus of Rockport, Ind., and Donna Sue Kirkman of Owensboro; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bernis Kirkman and William G. Kirkman, both of Owensboro, and Hubert Kirkman of Portland, Tenn.; and four sisters, Verdie Williams of Todd County, Vernell Williams of Madison, Tenn., Anna Jean Shock of Owensboro and Kathleen Oxford of Decaturville, Tenn.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Bells Run Baptist Church cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. James W. Ford
(October 22, 1931 - October 18, 2015)

James W. Ford, 83, of Bowling Green passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Greenview Hospital. The Illinois native was a son of the late Ivy and Mamie Alice Stinnett Ford. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Doris Jean Quick Ford. Mr. Ford served in the United States Marine Corp and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was the president and founder of Ingredient Resource Corp. and was a member of First Christian Church. Survivors include a son, Steve Ford (Kathy) of Louisville; two daughters, Tracy Inman (John) and Suzanne Paugh (Rob) of Bowling Green; a brother, Harold Douglas Ford of Jeffersonville, IN; and eight grandchildren, Chelsea Cornett, Jesse Cornett, Jake Inman, Zach Inman, Courtney Ford, Brian Ford, Darby Ford, and Alec Paugh. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at First Christian Church with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home and from 11:00 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at First Christian Church. Geraldine Goss
October 10, 1937 - October 17, 2015

Geraldine Goss, 78, of Bowling Green died at 3:45 pm, Saturday at her residence. The Hardin County native was a homemaker and member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late J. Paul Brown and Betty Bridges Brown and preceded in death by her sister, Linda Jamison. Survivors include her husband, Sid Goss of Bowling Green; two daughters, Paula Mattingly (Dan) of Alvaton and Donna Kinser (Ronnie) of Bowling Green; one son, Jeff Goss of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren, Robert Hill, Amanda Hill, Jessica Kinser, Danielle Kinser, Rachel Kinser, Mary Kinser, Wyatt Kinser, Daniel Santos, Angelina Santos, Sam Mattingly and Jeremiah Glass; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Monday, October 19, 2015 and again from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Tuesday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. BOWLING GREEN -- Mary Nola Weaver, 97, of Bowling Green died there Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Wellington Parc. The Madisonville native was a teacher in the Michigan and Kentucky school systems. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Weaver.

Survivors include two nieces.

Graveside services are at 10 a.m. EDT Friday at Toledo Memorial Park, Swan Lake chapel, in Sylvania, Ohio. There is no visitation. J.C. Kirby & Son Broadway Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green is in charge of arrangements.

Irene Harmon
August 21, 1925 - October 15, 2015

Irene Harmon died October 15, 2015.

The Warren County native was born August 21, 1925. She was a graduate of South Warren High School in Warren County. She was also a graduate of Bowling Green Business University, and she retired from American National Bank after 24 years of service. She was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church for 58 years, and a past Worthy Matron of the Park City Order of the Eastern Stars No. 128. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.V. Harmon; her parents, Herbert Burnett and Jewell Walters Burnett; and two sisters, Dorothy Burnett and Mary Oliver.

The funeral is at 10 AM Monday, October 19, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Plano cemetery. Visitation is 4 PM – 8 PM Sunday, October 18, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Steve Harmon of Bowling Green; two daughters, Marchelle Martin (Gary) and Claudia Jarrett (James) all of Bowling Green; a sister, Betty Smith (Don) of Indianapolis, IN; four grandchildren, Lee Martin, Amy Murrie (Nate), Jessica, and Amanda Jarrett, all of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Virgie Ruth Price Wheeler
May 12, 1924 - October 6, 2015

Virgie Ruth (Price) Wheeler, 91, of Bowling Green died on October 6, 2015 at her residence. She was a daughter of the late Virgil Clarence and Mollie Gertrude Sledge Price. Mrs. Wheeler was a retired mail carrier with over 20 years of service. She was a lifetime member of Providence Knob Baptist Church, where she served in the capacity as Sunday School Secretary, Church Clerk and received the Lifetime Service Award in 2007. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, John B. Wheeler; four sons, Fred Wheeler (Brenda), J. B. Wheeler, Jr. (Vickie) of Rockfield, David Wheeler (Jennifer) of Rockfield, Jack Wheeler of Hopkinsville; one daughter, Jane McGinnis (Leslie) of Bowling Green, one brother, James Price (Dixie) of Bowling Green; three sisters, Margaret Stahl of Bowling Green, Mabel Morehead (Roy) of Smiths Grove, Sylvia Easton (Julian) of Oakland; six grandchildren, Laura Towe (Aaron), Wayne Wheeler (Tina), Jamie Lay (Timmy), Jason McGinnis, Jared McGinnis (Ashley), Jessica McGinnis Myers (Jimmy); two step-grandchildren, Shannon Ward (Matt) and Travis Williams; thirteen great- grandchildren. She is preceded in death by five sisters, Pearl Estes, Nellie Vance, Sarah Russ, Mae Jones, Louise Beals and one brother, William “Buddy” Virgil Price. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. MANNSVILLE -- Linda Nell Young, 59, of Mannsville died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Norton-Audubon Hospital in Louisville. The Breckinridge County native was a housewife and member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Young; two sons, Harold Young Jr. of Mannsville and Bill Driskell of Louisville; a daughter, Alicia Hart of Hudson; a grandchild; six brothers, Wallace Driskell Jr. of Indianapolis, Venus Driskell of Hardinsburg, Larry Driskell of Shepherdsville; Jimmy Driskell of Louisville; David Driskell of Corydon, Ind., and Dale Driskell of Harned; and a sister, Oretha Mercer of Hardinsburg.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Baptist Church in Hardinsburg. Burial will be in Ivy Hill cemetery in Hardinsburg. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg.

Laura Jean Sherry Lashlee
July 24, 1930 - September 12, 2015

Laura Jean Lashlee, 85, of Bowling Green died September 12, 2015 at Hopkins Center in Woodburn. She was born July 24, 1930, a daughter of the late Ralph W. and Orangie Rather Sherry. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.J. Lashlee; one brother, Bud Sherry; and two sisters, Betty Kinser and Wanda Thomas.

Mrs. Lashlee was a homemaker and a member of Broadway United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Ralph “Steve” Lashlee; one grandson, Josh Lashlee; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps-Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery. Helen Raley Wetherill

HAWESVILLE -- Helen Raley Wetherill, 81, of Hawesville died Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. The Hancock County native retired from Tell City Chair Co. and taught Sunday school and held several leadership positions at Hawesville United Methodist Church. She volunteered at the Hancock County Help Office.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Arthur Wetherill; a son, David Matthews Sr. of Birmingham, Ala.; a daughter, Marjorie Wilson of Hawesville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Gorman of Hawesville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Hawesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Serenity Hills cemetery in Hawesville. Visitation is after 3 p.m. today and until 1:30 p.m. Friday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Circle 2, c/o Hawesville United Methodist Church.

Robert A. Holthaus
December 6, 1946 - September 1, 2015

Robert A. Holthaus, 68, of Bowling Green, died on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. The St. Louis, MO native is a son of the late Paul and Grace Holthaus.

During the Vietnam conflict, Bob served in the U.S. Army while being stationed in Germany. He was married to the love of his life, Linda, on August 9th, 1969. Bob and his wife were foster parents for over 20 years. He was a retiree of GM Corvette Plant and a UAW member. He shared his love of bowling, motorcycling, boating, billiards, and parasailing with his friends and family throughout his life.

Survivors include a son Kenneth J. Holthaus (Amy) of Bowling Green; three daughters, Christina M. Smith (David) of Alvaton, Tamara S. Egan of Bowling Green, and Tara C. Nardella (Brian) of Clovis, CA; siblings: Patricia Volz, John, Mike, and Tom Holthaus; 12 grandchildren: Lauren, Dylan, Morgan, Sydney, Katelyn, Elizabeth, Brianna, Victoria, Allyson, Catherine, Abigail, Clarabeth and one great grandchild, Blakely.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 pm on Friday, September 4, 2015 and 10:30-12:30 pm on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home followed by a Celebration of Life. Bob will be laid to rest as an honored veteran, father, husband, and brother at the Fairview cemetery.

Ruby Baggett Miles

Ruby Turner Baggett Miles, 90, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, July 27, 2001, at The Forum in Louisville. The Clarksville, Tenn., native retired from the Mary Kendall Home in Owensboro as administrator.

Survivors include a daughter, Fran Gordinier; and two granddaughters.

Services are at 10 a.m. EDT Friday at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro.

Thomas "Tom" Price
(November 4, 1922 - October 15, 2015)

Thomas “Tom” Price, 92, of Bowling Green died Thursday, October 15, 2015 at his residence. The Warren County native was a son of the late, Luther L. and Nancy Anna Wooldrige Price. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Goldie Mae Hopper Price, and by two brothers, Ervin Roy Price, Ernest Luther Price and two sisters, Helen Francis Price and Mary Francis Tittle. Mr. Price was a WWII Army Veteran and was retired from BGMU, Electric Division, as a Line Foreman with over 22 years of service. He was a member of Kerr Memorial United Methodist Church, currently Faith United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his three sisters, Marie Johnson, Marlene Benningfield (Garnett) and Nadine Purkerson (Harold) all of Bowling Green; four brothers, Douglas A. Price of Bowling Green, Joseph C. Price (Sylvia) of Bowling Green, Hugh D. Price (Patty) of Morgantown, KY and Wayne Price (Judy) of Franklin, KY; brother-in-law, Jerry “J.C.” Hopper (Elsie) of Bowling Green; several nieces and nephews; special caregivers, Lisa Moody, Lisa Rone, Edmund G. and Tina Lawrence.

Funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm Monday, October 19, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Fairview cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sunday, October 18, 2015 and again from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Monday at the funeral home.

Ernest Otto Keown Jr.

HAWESVILLE -- Ernest Otto Keown Jr., 69, of Jesup, Ga., formerly of Hawesville, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup. The Hawesville native retired in 1993 as a right-of-way agent with the Kentucky Department of Transportation after 20 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 115 of Hawesville, a Kentucky Colonel and a Baptist.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Kevin Keown of Jesup; a daughter, Debra K. Hite of Bowling Green; five grandchildren; his parents, E. Otto and Julia Keown of Hawesville; a brother, Dennis Keown of Hawesville; a stepnephew; and a stepniece.

Services are at 3 p.m. Saturday at Hawesville Baptist Church. Burial will be in Serenity Hills cemetery in Hawesville. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport.

Fred Brooks
(June 30, 1930 - October 2, 2015)

Fred Brooks, 85, of Bowling Green died Friday, October 2, 2015 at The Medical Center at Bowling Green. The Warren County native was a son of the late John James Brooks and Bessie Moore Brooks and was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Henry Brooks, Flora Elizabeth Alvey, Frank Brooks, Raymond Moore Brooks and Virginia Mae Powell and a nephew, James Powell. Mr. Brooks was a retired farmer and attended The Apostolic Church. He enjoyed being with the family members and reminiscing about their time together. He was an avid U.K. Basketball fan. Survivors include his sister, Edna Brooks Polston of Bowling Green; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, October 5, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Plano Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm Monday at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

Janice Mitchell Smith
(September 5, 1951 - September 25, 2015)

Janice Mitchell Smith, 64, of Alvaton died on September 25, 2015 at University of Louisville Hospital. Mrs. Smith was a daughter of the late Elvis Gradie Mitchell and Mary Virginia Henderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Darrell Smith.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace Free Will Baptist Church and the SISTERS prayer group. She was a 1969 graduate of Allen County High School. She had a servant’s heart and touched the lives of many throughout her life.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Bowling Green Gardens. Visitation is from 4 – 8pm on Thursday, October 1; 10am – 8pm Friday, October 2; and 8 – 11am on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons; Tim Alexander (Carrie) and Dustin Smith (Kristi) both of Scottsville. Three grandchildren; Christopher Alexander, Jenna Alexander and Houston Smith all of Scottsville and one sister; Martha Hill (Glenn) of Bowling Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.

Trudye Y. Windle

Trudye Y. Windle of Owensboro died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The West Virginia native retired from Kaiser Aluminum, was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and its prayer ministry and had been a member of Ravenswood (W.Va.) Planning Commission. She was active in and American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Easter Seal Society and volunteered at Jackson General Hospital.

Survivors include two brothers, Mel Windle and Jim Windle, both of Owensboro; several nephews and nieces; two aunts; and several cousins.

Services are at noon Friday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7:15 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Blessed Mother Catholic Church or American Cancer Society.
