WHITESVILLE -- Edward G. "Bob" Payne, 86, of Whitesville died Sunday, July 29, 2001, in Bradenton, Fla., at his daughter's home. The Daviess County native was a self-employed carpenter and contractor and a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn Payne in 1968 and Darrell Payne in 1951.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Payne of Ashville, N.C., Danny Payne of Owensboro and Tony Payne of New Hampshire; two daughters, Sherry Troutman of Bradenton, Fla., and Sue Burton of Sarasota, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, S.B. "Bill" Payne of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Whitesville. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. Prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice.

José Antonio Miranda Rivas
(May 20, 1942 - May 23, 2016)

José Antonio Miranda Rivas, 74, died Monday, May 23, 2016 at The Medical Center. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, May 27, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kandie Woods Shirley
(January 16, 1968 - April 24, 2016)

Kandie Woods Shirley, 48, of Tompkinsville, KY died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at her residence. The Bowling Green native was a Driver’s Examiner for the Kentucky State Police and was a member of Bible Way Baptist Church in Fountain Run, KY.

Survivors include her husband, William Frank Shirley of Tompkinsville; two step-children, Jessie Frank Shirley and John Taylor Shirley both of Tompkinsville; her father, Terry Wayne Woods of Bowling Green; her mother, Rebecca Jean Sears Owens and step-father, Charlie Owens of Bowling Green; one brother, Steve Woods of Scottsville; a nephew, Andy Woods; a niece, Amanda Chapman (Nick); a great nephew, Kaden Woods; a great niece, Meleah Chapman.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 29, 2016 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Bethany cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Marion A. Dickens Slinker
11 July 2001

Marion A. Dickens Slinker of Owensboro died Friday, July 6, 2001, at Milwaukee Hospital in Milwaukee from cancer. The Whitesville native retired from General Electric Co. after 37 years and was a member of SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church in Owensboro.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry L. Slinker and Michael D. Slinker, both of Milwaukee; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethel Westerfield of Owensboro; and several nephews and nieces.

Services were Tuesday at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Interment was in Holy Cross cemetery in Milwaukee. Church and Chapel Funeral Service in Milwaukee was in charge of arrangements.

Sadie Belle Wininger Howell
(November 10, 1924 - June 3, 2016)

Sadie Belle Wininger Howell, 91, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016 at her residence. The Glasgow native was born on November 10, 1924 to the late Ishmael Higden and Gertrude Wininger. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Willard Murray “Pete” Howell and six brothers, McElvis, Rondel, Charles, Mike, Ernest, and Paul Wininger.

Mrs. Howell fostered 29 children and 45 exchange students over the course of her life and was most recently a director at Kiddie World Day Care Center. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Eastern Star, and also Eastwood Baptist Church for over 60 years.

She is survived by her children, David Anderson Howell (Kendra) and Marilyn Ruth Howell Leeper (Terry); a sister, Ruth Robertson; five grandchildren, Hannah Howell, Laura Leeper, Ronnie Leeper (Kelli), Emily Leeper (Jason), and Natalie Feldman (Justin); five great-grandchildren, Hope Leeper, Noah Sanders, Lucas Sanders, Weston Leeper, and Sawyer Feldman; four special foster children, Oscar, Marie, Anna, and Glenda; and a very special caregiver, Ron Graves.

No public service is scheduled, so the family encourages friends to sign her online guest book at jvpfh.com. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is entrusted with her arrangements.

Memorial contribution may be made in her honor to Eastwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 500 Eastwood Avenue, Bowling Green, KY 42103.

Vander L. Bullock
(September 26, 1955 - May 4, 2016)

Vander L. Bullock, 60, of Alvaton, died Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at his residence. He was a former employee of Scott’s Tobacco Company.

Private Services will be scheduled.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Adkison Bullock; three sisters, Barbara (Joel), Ann and Reneé; brother, Johnny; several nieces and nephews.

The family has requested donations be made to offset funeral expenses. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert 'Pete' Willett
19 May 2001

Robert "Pete" Willett, 86, of 8327 Hamilton Ferry Road, Owensboro, died Friday, May 18, 2001, at Leisure Years Nursing Center. The Daviess County native was a farmer, a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and enjoyed raising roses and other flowers.

Survivors include several cousins.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Peter cemetery in Stanley. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

David Glenn Beach
(March 21, 1954 - May 1, 2016)

David Glenn Beach, 62, of Bowling Green, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at The Medical Center. He was born to the late Glenn Russell and Margaret Alice Walters Beach. Mr. Beach is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Charles Forest Ingram, Jr.

Mr. Beach graduated from Warren Central High School in 1972 and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Kentucky University. He enjoyed computer work, music, going to and watching sports, and genealogy. Mr. Beach was a member of Lakeview Fellowship Church.

Funeral services will be on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 1:30 pm at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home, with burial in Plano Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mr. Beach is survived by a sister, Shirley Beach Ingram of Cadiz, KY; a niece, Amy Lynn Thompson (Antonio) of Clarksville, TN; a nephew, Kevin Ingram (Amy) of Mt. Juliet, TN; four great nieces and nephews, Madeline, Julian, and Sophia Thompson, and Reed Ingram.

Mary Lou Johnston Wolfe
11 July 2001

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Mary Lou Johnston Wolfe, 49, of South Bend died there Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Memorial Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native owned American Closet in South Bend and was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church in Weir. She graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School in 1970 and attended Murray State University.

Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Mack Wolfe; her parents, Carley and Katie Johnston of Greenville; three brothers, Carl Johnston of Greenville, Wayne Johnston of Gastonia, N.C., and Tommy Groves of Bluff Springs; three sisters, Sandra Carringer of Apex, N.C., and Elnora Sherrod and Dorothy Boggess, both of Greenville; and several nephews and nieces.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Lone Star cemetery in Weir. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Dr. William M. McCormack
(June 11, 1935 - April 20, 2016)

Dr. William M. McCormack, 80, of Bowling Green, passed away April 20, 2016 at the Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Bowling Green on June 11, 1935 to the late Roy and Ima McCormack. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert McCormack and Richard McCormack, and four sisters, Lucille Griffin, Juanita Sharer, Betty Sue McCormack, and Helen Becker.

Dr. McCormack was a graduate of Bowling Green High School, Western Kentucky University, and the University of Louisville School of Medicine.

After medical school he was a flight surgeon in Vietnam and later became a Radiologist, practicing in Owensboro, KY.

Dr. McCormack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Ann McCormack; his son, Mark McCormack (Caroline) of Bowling Green; his daughter, Laura McCormack Cross (Jerry) of Angier, NC; and five grandchildren, Hadley McCormack of Bowling Green and Anna Scott, John, David and Angelita Cross of Angier, NC.

He was a lifelong member of State Street United Methodist Church, and was also a Mason and a Shriner. He loved hunting, golf, tennis and all sports, especially college football. He was an avid reader and loved to travel.

His Funeral will be at 11:00 am on Monday, April 25, 2016 at State Street United Methodist Church, with burial at Fairview cemetery. Visitation is from 9:30 am to 11:00 am on Monday at State Street United Methodist Church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to State Street United Methodist Church, Bowling Green.

Donald Tweedy
(June 7, 1942 - April 19, 2016)

U.S. Veteran
Donald Tweedy, 73, of Bowling Green, KY, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, at the Medical Center. He was born in Cumberland County on June 7, 1942, the son of Jack and Hattie Tweedy who are deceased. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Carlos Tweedy, his sister, Hazel Anderson and his sister, Estell Thrasher.

After attending Lindsey Wilson College and a two-year stint in the Army, Donald began his life-long career with Willamette/Weyerhaeuser before retiring 12 years ago with 37 years of dedicated service. He was a very faithful member of Greenhill United Methodist Church for the past 38 years, always willing to serve in his walk with God. As everyone knows, he was a “pro” in adlibbing his off-the-wall humor. One of his life goals was to make people laugh.

Donald is survived by his wife, Linda, of 47 years; his two daughters, Kara Phelps (Jason) and Kelli Truelove (Gerod); one granddaughter, Kala Ware and two grandsons, Isaak Truelove and Elijah Truelove; also two great granddaughters, Isabella and Madison; one sister, Jewell Cooper; Also surviving are several nieces and nephews (especially Bob Clark).

Visitation at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home, is scheduled for Thursday, April 21, from 2 – 7 p.m. Also from 11 – 2 on Friday, April 22. Funeral to follow at 2 p.m., with burial in Fairview cemetery.

John P. Frizzell
29 May 2001

TELL CITY, Ind. -- John P. Frizzell, 51, of Tell City died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Norton-Audubon Hospital in Louisville from an apparent heart attack. The Tell City native was a sergeant at Branchville Correctional Facility and a 1967 graduate of Tell City High School. He attended Indiana State University for four years, was a former co-owner of Jim's Men's Store in Tell City and played and coached softball. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bowling and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Marilyn Chumbley Frizzell; two sons, Mike Chumbley and Matthew Chumbley, both of Jeffersonville, Ind.; a daughter, Michaeline Miller of Louisville; a granddaughter; a brother, Gary Frizzell of Tell City; a nephew; and a niece.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tell City. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery in Tell City. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City chapel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Heart Association.

Estelle L. Wheat
(April 13, 1923 - May 9, 2016)

Estelle L. Wheat, 93, of Bowling Green, died Monday, May 9, 2016 in Bowling Green. The Grassland, KY (Edmonson County) native was a daughter of the late Duncan and Nannie Mae Meredith Lindsey and was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie R. Wheat.

Mrs. Wheat was a past chairman of the English Department at Bowling Green High School and member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lillian Hatcher (Wayne) of Morgantown; one granddaughter, Sarah Isaac (Brad) of Grove City, Ohio; four great grandchildren, Luke, Nicholas, William and Josh Isaac; one sister, Francis Moore; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, May 13, 2016 with visitation an hour prior to the service at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the funeral home.

Chester N. Brownd
10 July 2001

OLATON -- Chester N. Brownd, 84, of Olaton died Monday, July 9, 2001, at Veterans Administration Hospital in Louisville. The Olaton native retired from Young Manufacturing Co. in Beaver Dam and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Anna N. Brownd; two sons, Chester L. Brownd and Charles Brownd, both of Olaton; three daughters, Mary Brooks of Tallahassee, Fla., Shirley McDaniel of Beaver Dam and Anna Brooks of Olaton; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lorene Burton of Olaton.

Services are at 3 p.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Fairview Church cemetery in Olaton. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nell Wheat Walker
(January 6, 1933 - May 14, 2016)

Nell Wheat Walker, 83, of Bowling Green died Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Greenwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The Fountain Run, KY native was born January 6, 1933 to the late Harland A. and Myrtle Good Wheat and was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Rondal Walker, two brothers, Ronnie Wheat and Tommy Wheat, two sisters-in-law, Estelle Wheat and Tess Wheat and a sister, Lula Pearl Garmon.

Mrs. Walker received her Master’s Degree from Kansas State University and was a home economics teacher retiring from the B.G.State Vocational School. She was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and the Warren County Home Economist Club.

Survivors include her son, Allan R. Walker (Karen); four grandchildren, Zackary T. Walker (Keri), Lee Alden Walker, Rodney T. Steff (Amber), and Katie Elizabeth Chidester (John); five great grandchildren; cousin, Rose Gentry; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and again from 8:00 am – 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Greenwood Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
