Reisor M. Bowden

SHREVEPORT, LA - Visitation for Reisor M. Bowden, 74, will be held at Osborn Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 4, 2001 from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 5th in the chapel of Osborn Funeral Home with Dr. Pat Day and Rev. Willis Dear of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.

Reisor died Monday, April 2nd at his home following a yearlong battle with cancer. He was born on December 18th, 1926 in Shreveport and found a love of music at an early age, taking voice lessons and singing in the First United Methodist Church children's choir. These early experiences helped shape one of local television's defining voices in a career spanning three decades. Reisor graduated from Fair Park High School in 1943 and began at KRMD as an announcer, but like so many other young men of his generation, was soon sidetracked by World War II. As a boilermaker onboard the U.S.S. Sabine in the U.S. Navy, he was among some of the first American military personnel to witness the devastation of Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped.

At the war's end, Reisor held several positions, returning to broadcasting at Channel Three, where he retired in 1985. Having never fully gotten the sea out of his system, Reisor spent his retirement sailing on waters ranging from Cross Lake to the Gulf of Mexico. Knowing that he is out there again, off some calm coast, with the stars above him and the wind at his back, comforts us in the midst of our sadness.

His parents, John and Jewel Bowden, and brother, Jack Bowden preceded Reisor in death. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alice; his son, John Robert Bowden; daughters, Ann Abney, Sylvia Domino, Dana Jean Harvey; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jeff Abney, Adam Bowden, Shane Bowden, Jason Domino, Michael Domino and Jeff Miller.

Honorary pallbearers will be William Abney, Gordon Bartage, Brian Bristow, Jerry Cage, John Domino, Merrill Melton, Jim Monroe, John Martin Ratcliffe, Buddy Stinson, and Leo Stinson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or the First United Methodist Church of Shreveport.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Robert Massingill and his staff, Dr. Dave Spaulding and Suzanne, Carla and Tina of Shreveport Hospice.
