Charlene Cross Lewis
Funeral arrangements are pending for Charlene Cross Lewis, 84, a native of Welsh and a resident of Morgan City who died Sunday night at her home.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John W. “Jack” Lewis of Morgan City; one son, John C. Lewis of Morgan City; three daughters, Mary Andrus and her husband, Wayne, of Des Allemands, Cheryl Braud and her husband, John, of Franklin and Jackie Weems and her husband, Steve, of Lafayette; two brothers, Charles F. “C.F.” Cross and Harry R. “Buddy” Cross, both of Morgan City; two sisters, Mary Jim “Jimmie” Cloutier and Duane Mayon, both of Morgan City; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City will be in charge of the arrangements.

Lawless “Wee Wee” Joseph Guidry, 58, a resident of Bayou L’Ourse, Passed away Feb. 18, 2005. He was born to the late Wilton Guidry and Agnes Abshire Guidry on June 2, 1946 in Riverside.
He is survived by his daughters, Melanie and her husband, Fabian Breaux, of Bayou L’Ourse, and Angela and her husband, Kendal Powe, of Milton, Fla.; his sisters, Viola Hisaw of Bayou L’Ourse and Earlene Gaudet of Berwick; his grandchildren, Fabian Breaux Jr., Brandy Breaux, Sonny Breaux and Austin Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Guidry; his daughter, Denise Guidry; and his parents, Agnes and Wilton Guidry.
Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Thelma Thibodeaux Gary, 77, a native of Welsh and resident of Patterson since 1980, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, at 1:41 p.m. at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.
The family requested that visiting hours be observed Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ibert’s Mortuary in Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. interment will follow in Ibert’s Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her five sons, Clebert Gary of Bayou Vista, Larry Gary of Ricohoc, Jean Keith Gary of Belle River, David Gary of Patterson and Russel Gary of South Carolina; three daughters, Barbara Gary of Bayou Vista, Diana Breaux of Crowley and Janice Gary of Rayne; one brother, Jay Thibodeaux of Texas ; one sister, Beatrice Hicks of Lake Charles; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abbie Joseph Gary; her father, Joseph O. Thibodeaux; her mother, Lizida LeBlanc Thibodeaux; one daughter, Abby Gail Gary Suire; one brother, Irvin Thibodeaux; and five deceased grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary Inc. of Patterson (985) 395-7873.

Delores Elaine David, 59, a resident of Morgan City, Passed away Feb. 18, 2005. She was born May 13, 1945, to Cecil Westfall and Doris Brasswell Westfall in Morgan City.
Visitation was observed Sunday, Feb. 20, 2005, from 6-9 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. Visitation continued today from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with a dismissal to the church.
Funeral services were held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 10 a.m. and were conducted by Father Josh Rodrigue. She was laid to rest in the Morgan City Mausoleum.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 38 wonderful years, Kenneth David of Morgan City; her sons, Tim David and his wife, Catherine, and Terry David, all of Morgan City, and Thomas David and his wife, Melissa, of Patterson; and her brother, Billy Westfall of Port Allen.
She also is survived by her loving grandchildren, Matt, Rebecca, Luke, Elissa, Brandon and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil Westfall and Doris B. Westfall.

Grace Leonard Chaisson, a native of Belle River and resident of Stephensville, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at 11:40 p.m. at her residence.
Funeral services were held today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City with burial following at the Morgan City Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Daniel Chaisson Sr.; one daughter, Rosalie Aucoin and her husband, Louis Aucoin Jr.; two sons, Daniel Chaisson Jr. and his partner, Richard Lewis, and Sammy Chaisson and his wife, Nita Chaisson; four grandchildren, Jay Aucoin and his fiancée, Cindy Nelson, Cassie Chaisson, Cody Chaisson and Cole Chaisson, all of Stephensville; one great-granddaughter, Sammie Jo Chaisson of Stephensville; one sister, Shirley DeHart of Pierre Part; three brothers, Stanley Leonard of Pierre Part, and Adam Leonard and Ervin Leonard, both of Bayou Vista; and three step-great-grandchildren, Trent Williams, Laini Williams and Sarah Williams.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Algie and Beulah Leonard; and two brothers, Raymond and Nolan Leonard.

James S. Abshire Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard for James S. Abshire Sr.
The Rev. Louis Richard will officiate. interment will follow in St. Anne Cemetery in Youngsville.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home today from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Born on July 1, 1949, in Lake Charles, James died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, in Broussard in an auto accident. He was 55 years old. James and his family moved from Lake Charles to Morgan City when he was young. There, he resided until he completed high school. He was a 1968 graduate of Morgan City High School where he was the captain of the football team and was a highly sports-oriented student. Following graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army where he served his country honorably for eight years, mostly overseas, during the Korean and Vietnam war era. In 1977, he moved to Lafayette and resided there ever since.
It was when James moved to Lafayette that he started in the electrical and instrumentation field as an apprentice. Throughout his career, he worked his way up to the highest level in that industry. He was well known and respected in his field as well as in the oil field industry. He was currently working as an inspector for RCI Consultants of Houston. James had a strong work ethic and took his work seriously. He worked hard and had a true sense of pride in every task he took on.
When not working, James loved anything to do with water. He enjoyed fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, hunting and going to Cancun, Mexico. His greatest love in his life was his family. He was very proud of his sons and spending time with family members was a regular and enjoyable occasion for him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janie Stansbury Abshire of Lafayette; his three sons, James “Jim” Abshire Jr. and his wife, Trista, of Broussard, Jamison “Jamey” Abshire and his fiancée, Tabitha Smith, of Broussard and Ron Abshire and his wife, Sherie, of Patterson; his three brothers, Gary Abshire of Tracy, Calif., Larry Abshire of Grand Chenier and Leonard Ray Abshire of Lake Charles; and his two sisters, Shirley Perry of Vinton and Olivia Mae Richard of Lake Charles.
He also is survived by his five grandchildren, Brooke Elise Abshire, Brennan Abshire, Ashley Abshire, R.J. Abshire and Bobby Abshire; and a step-granddaughter, Myklin Smith.
Serving as pallbearers will be John, Jason and Lucas Bergeron, and Kent, Ronald and Brett Henderson.
David Funeral Home, 316 Youngsville Hwy., Lafayette, is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles William Ross, 83, a native of Berwick and resident of Bayou Vista, died Sunday at Kindred Hospital in New Orleans. He was a Catholic by Faith. He served his country proudly in the United States Army.
He is survived by one son, Watson Ross of Thibodaux; three sisters, Barbara Stansbury and Ruth Daigle, both of Morgan City, and Eileen Smith of Gretna; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives; and numerous brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Twin City Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Terry Bunner officiating. interment will be at the Morgan City Cemetery with full military honors given by the East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad in honor of their fallen comrade.

Alice Chain Norris, 70, a resident of Mt. Olive, Miss., died Sunday at Forrest General Hospital in Mississippi.
Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Worship Center. Burial was in the Rutland Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Miss.
She is survived by her mother, Zelma Jordan Chain, of Houston; two sons, James R. Norris and his wife, Mildred, of Collins, Miss., and Kelvin Glenn Norris and his wife, Toni, of Anchorage, Alaska; one daughter, Betty N. Fraley and her husband, Paul, of Berwick; four brothers, Jimmy Chain and his wife, Elizabeth, of Talladega, Ala., Hillard Chain and his wife, Margaret, of Mt. Olive, Miss., Larry Chain and his wife, Pat, of Houston and David Chain and his wife, Carol, of Alabama; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar J. Norris; and her father, N.B. Chain.
Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Collins, Miss., was in charge of arrangements.

Charlene Opal Cross Lewis, 84, a native of Welsh and resident of Morgan City, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, at her residence in Morgan City. She was a member of Pharr Chapel United Methodist Church in Morgan City.
She was the daughter of the late Charles Cross and the late Hazel Graham Cross.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John W. “Jack” Lewis of Morgan City; three daughters, Mary Andrus of Des Allemands, Cheryl Braud of Franklin and Jackie Weems of Lafayette; one son, John C. Lewis of Morgan City; two sisters, Mary Jim Cloutier and Duane Mayon, both of Morgan City; two brothers, Charles “C.F.” Cross and Harry “Buddy” Cross, both of Morgan City; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon until 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005, at Twin City Funeral Home, 412 Fourth St. in Morgan City.
Funeral services will be held at Twin City Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Vernon Fairley officiating. interment will be in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Jack L. Colton, 82, died Feb. 16, 2005, at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia after a brief illness.
Colton, a native of Natchitoches, was a longtime resident of St. Mary Parish prior to his retirement and was living at Garden View Assisted Living Facility in New Iberia at the time of his death.
A veteran of World War II, in which he served in the U.S. Army as a signals analyst and cryptographer, Colton graduated from Northwestern State University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
He moved to Franklin in 1951 where he worked for the St. Mary and Franklin Banner-Tribune for over a decade as a reporter and later as owner and editor. He then moved his family to Morgan City in the early 1960s when he became associated with the Morgan City Review. Colton was associated with the local newspaper as a managing editor through 1968, during which time he was instrumental in converting the then-weekly publication into a daily newspaper.
In 1969, Colton moved to Leesville where he served as editor of the Leesville Leader for many years before establishing a second newspaper for Vernon Parish, the Vernon Journal.
He is survived by two daughters, a son and their spouses, Stephen and Sharon Colton-Breaux, R.J. and Rebecca Colton Fertitta and Mark A. and Marcy Colton; and one granddaughter, Carolyn Dorothy Fertitta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Maricelli Colton.
