Hilliard Barbara Guell

(Died Sept. 22, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Hilliard Barbara Guell, age 82, a resident of Bogalusa, died at 3:40 p.m. yesterday in Lakeview Regional Medical Center, Covington.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jim Bateman of Bogalusa; two sisters, Flora Amanda Sibley of Baton Rouge and Mary Maud Stirling Courman of New Orleans; and a grandson, Michael Guell Bateman of Bogalusa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario R. Guell; a sister, Anna Stirling Walters; and four brothers, Robert Steve Stirling, Frank Winter Stirling, Jefferson Davis Stirling and John B. Stirling Jr.

Visitation will be held tomorrow at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church from 10 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m.

Ellis Sampson will officiate at the funeral service, with interment following in Ponemah Cemetery.

The Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gussie E. Conerly

(Died Sept. 25, 1999)

FRANKLINTON - Funeral arrangements have been completed for Gussie E. Conerly, age 84, a resident of 25268 Old Lake Road, Wilmer, LA. who died at the Riverside Medical Center on Sept. 25, 1999.

Visitation will be on Oct. 1 at the Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Franklinton, from 3-7 p.m. when the family hour will commence. The funeral service will be held on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Causey officiating. interment will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery.

She is survived by seven daughters Catherine Buchanan of Wilmer, Josie Bullock of Mt. Hermon, Willean Conerly of New Orleans, Betty Urquhart of Hercules, CA, Mae Helen Kemp of Covington, Judy Johnson of Baton Rouge, and Joyce Crawford of Kenner; two sons Joseph Coneraly of Mt. Hermon and Andrew Conerly of New Orleans; two sisters Edith Perry and Maeodra Wilson of Wilmer; two brothers Eddie Evans, Sr. of Wilmer, and Francis O'Neal Evans of Amite; 25 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Betty Hathorne Willard

(Died Sept. 25, 1999)

BOGALUSA - A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. today for Betty Hathorne Willard, 65, a resident of 210 Elaine St., Bogalusa. She died Saturday at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington.

Visitation was held Sunday and early Monday at Brown McGehee Funeral Home. Services were held at 2 p.m. Burial followed in the Ponemah Cemetery.

Dennis Allen conducted the services.

Willard was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Dana and Michael Dillman of Woodville, Ms. and Lisa and Dewayne Rogers of Bogalusa; two sons and their wives, William and Elizabeth Willard of Bogalusa and Paul Roy and Morgan Willard of Bogalusa; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Bennie and Delores Hathorne of Bogalusa and Arnold Hathorne of Bogalusa.

Willard is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul L. Willard, Jr.

Sidney Wayne Ritchie Sr.

(Died Sept. 26, 1999)

Funeral arrangements have been completed for Sidney Wayne Ritchie, Sr., age 44 and a resident of Thomas, who died as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday.

Visitation will be held in the Brown McGehee funeral home in Bogalusa Tuesday from 4:30-10 p.m. and continue Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time for services in the chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Larry Lassley and Rev. B.V. Alford officiating. interment will follow in the Ritchie Cemetery at Crossroads, MS.

He is survived by his wife Belynda Kent Ritchie of Thoms; one son Sidney Wayne Ritchie Jr. and wife Kristen of Bogalusa; his mother Nedrey Creel and Step-father Jerry Creel of Bogalusa, five brothers Jeffery Dale Smith of Tylertown, MS, Timothy Clyde Ritchie of Stateline, Craig Ronald Ritchie, Barney Wade Ritchie, and Charles Quincey Ritchie, all of Bogalusa; Grandparents Freddie Mae and C.R. Ronning of Bogalusa, one grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Luke 'Shug' Warner Jr.

(Died Sept. 17, 1999)

BOGALUSA - Funeral arrangements have been completed for Luke "Shug" Warner Jr., age 92, a resident of 1111 Ann Street, Bogalusa, who died last Friday in the Washington -St. Tammany Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be tomorrow from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Bogalusa. The wake service will be tomorrow from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Bogalusa.

The funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Hayes Chapel United Methodist Church in Hackley, with the Rev. James Cyrus officiating. interment will follow in the Hayes Chapel Cemetery.

Preceded in death by his wife, Selena Dillon Warner, he is survived by a daughter, Augustine Warner of Bogalusa; a son, Kobie Warner of Chicago, IL; a sister, Mandy Dillon Johnson of Hackley; two brothers, Limmie Dillon and Marshall Warner, both of Hackley; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Dillard Mitchell of Bogalusa; two daughters, Rebecca Elaine Hardin of Buras and Carolyn Elizabeth Lewis of Hollywood, CA; two sons, John Carlton Lewis of Port Sulphur and Charles Henry Mitchell of Buras; three sisters, Pauline Carrol of Phoenix, AZ, Jane Cox of Brevard, NC and Linda Dillard of Boothville; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Hutchins.

Visitation was held yesterday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and continued today at 8:30 a.m. until time for the funeral service.

Clara Mae Magee Wallace

(Died Aug. 28, 1999)

Funeral arrangements have been completed for Clara Mae Magee Wallace, 80, a resident of Bogalusa who died Aug. 28 at her residence, 919 Mercedes Street, Bogalusa. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa or at the family home from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Bogalusa. Dr. Aaron Thompson will be officiating the ceremony.

She is survived by one sister Delores Magee of New Orleans and one brother Bobby Magee of Chicago.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Wallace; her parents Archie and Alemade Magee; and two brothers Thomas Ward Magee and Donald Ray Magee, Sr.

Ronald Martin

(Died August 3, 1999)
POPLARHEAD - Tera Luper a resident of the Poplarhead community died Tuesday at the Riverside Medical Center. She was a member of the Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. Wednesday and will continue at the Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church after 8 a.m. Thursday until time for the funeral service at 10 a.m. in the church with Eld. Willie J. Passman officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She was preceded by her husband, Charlie Luper; one sister, Lela Luper and two brothers Wayne and Jewell Sumrall. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Lucille and Richard Wade of Franklinton; one granddaughter, Jamie Wade of Franklinton; one great grandson; and three brothers, Hillary Sumrall, Willie Sumrall and Jessie Sumrall, Jr. all of Franklinton.

DeCarlos Muntrail Smith

(Died July 27, 1999)
BOGALUSA - DeCarlos Muntrail Smith departed this life Thursday at Tulane Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday at Tulane Medical Center with Dr. Rev. Tom Bailey, Jr. officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday at Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Bogalusa from 2:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. interment will follow the funeral service in Bogalusa Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John D. Stringer; seven uncles Jessie (Tank head) Dillon, Frederick (Monk) Belton, Gordon (opp-man) Belton, Ronnie (Boo-Boo) Belton, Walter Warren, and Joe Stringer; one aunt, Willie Mae Belton.

Survivors include his mother, Charlotte (Bernard) Holts of Bogalusa; his father, Douglas (Dee- Dee) Lewis of New Orleans; one son De Shun DeCarlos Taylor of Bogalusa; grandmother, Mrs. Audrey Stringler Wilson of Bogalusa; Clayton Wilson; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wilson of Bogalusa; great grandfather, Huller Stringer of Angie; two brothers, LeCarte Smith and Trumont Smith both of New Orleans; two sisters, Psyta King and Daisha King both of New Orleans; God brother, Stephen Mangrum of Bogalusa; eleven aunts, La Beachee (Donald) Dixon, Peggie (Walter) Elam, Rita (Eugene) Pigott of Houston, TX, Tonja Nathaniel and Lonnie Jean Smith both of Florida, Christella Lewis of Mississippi, Shuntia Belton of Angie, Patrice (Ronnie) Belton, Afredia (Darryl) Smith, Katie Dillon, Susan Ratcliff all of Bogalusa, God aunt, Venessa Quillens of Bogalusa; five uncles, Michael Dillon of Baton Rouge, Hilbert Lewis of Bogalusa, Don Lewis of Mississippi, Joe Nathanial, Jr. of Pittsburg, PA, Louis Stringer of Bogalusa; eight great aunts, Betty Smith and Shirley Adams both of Pontiac, MI, Evelyn Warner of Bogalusa, Willie Mae Smith of New Orleans, Virginia Peters and Merle Stringer both of Angie, Christine (Will) Stringer of Bogalusa, and Dorothy Stringer of Angie; three special friends, Torri Henry, Samuel Griffin, Terri Welch; and special family, "The Lucas'" of Bogalusa.

Neva A. Miley Jenkins

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Neva A. Miley Jenkins, age 80, a lifelong resident of Pine, who died Sunday, will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Brown-McGehee Funeral Home. Elders Doyle Ball, Clyde Cooper, Reece Aray Douglas and Mason Miley will officiate.

interment will follow in the Central Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pine.

Visitation will be today from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and tomorrow after 8 a.m.

Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Ero Jenkins; her parents, Liza Jarrell Miley and Boone Miley; two sisters, Azelea Miley Jenkins and Ada Mae Miley Reguard; one brother, Jessie Miley; one grandson, Ricky Evan Bates; one great-grand-daughter, Heather Nicile Pierce and a son-in-law, Daniel Otto Passman.

She is survived by two daughters, Verda Mae Pierce, Bogalusa and Neva Marie Freeman, Isabel; two sons, Billy Ray Jenkins and Kenneth Wilson Jenkins, both residents of Bogalusa; two sisters, Eva Miley Jenkins, Bogalusa and Della Miley Bowers of Empire; one brother, Leon Miley of Franklinton; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Hal E. Hinote

BOGALUSA - Funeral services for Hal E. Hinote, 71, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Baptist Church in Bogalusa with the Rev. Dennis Allen officiating, assisted by Dr. James Spencer, Jay Taylor , Dr. Waylon Bailey and Rev. Allen Moak.

Burial will follow in Ponemah Cemetery under the direction of Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5-9 p.m. today at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home and continues tomorrow at Memorial Baptists Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

Mr. Bankston died Oct. 2, 1999 at Bogalusa Community Medical Center.

Born on Oct. 29, 1927 in Bogalusa to S.E. and Maysie Hinote, Mr. Hinote was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, S.E. and Maysie Hinote, and three brothers, Virgil Hinote, Roy Hinote and Cecil Hinote.

He is survived by his wife, Merle Dowdy Hinote, Bogalusa; one sister, Bernice Lanz, Bogalusa; one brother, W.H. Hinote, Tyler, Texas , and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested that donations in Mr. Hinote's memory be made to the Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund.

Thomas A. Bankston

FRANKLINTON - Funeral services for Thomas A. Bankston, 73, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Crain Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Thomas Graves and Luther Stamford officiating.

Burial followed in the Hays Creek Church Cemetery, Crain Funeral Home directing.

Visitation was from 5-10 p.m. Sept. 28 and continued after 9 a.m. Sept. 29 until the time of the services.

Mr. Bankston died Sept. 27, 1999 at his residence in the Hays Creek community.

A retired boilermaker with Local 37 in New Orleans, Mr. Bankston was a World War II veteran and a longtime member of Disabled American Veterans. He was also a welding instructor with Sullivan Vo-Tech at the Franklinton campus.

Mr. Bankston was preceded in death by his parents, Rodney and Stella Bankston, two brothers, Jewel Bankston and Julius Bankston, and a sister, Lucille Graves.

He is survived by his wife, Eva Brumfield Bankston of Franklinton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Dianne and Elgin Thomas, Tylertown, Miss. and Lynn Morgan, Franklinton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alton and Vickie Bankston, Lester and Donna Bankston and Robert Elton Bankston, all residents of Franklinton; two sisters, Ruth Thomas, Picayune, Miss. and Doretha McGehee, Brazoria, Texas ; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Murlie Thomas Sandifer

(Died Sept. 29, 1999)

Funeral arrangements have been completed for Murlie Thomas Sandifer, age 93, a resident of Franklinton who died at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home on Wednesday, September 29.

Visitation will be at the Crain Funeral Home, Franklinton, after 10 a.m. Friday until time for the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Walter Mixon and the Rev. Matthew Stuart officiating. interment will follow at the Bonner Creek Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Sandifer is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Versil S. and Walter D. Beard of Columbia, MS and Betty S. and Paul Crockett of Folsom; two sisters Bessie T. Quinn and Melissa Thomas, both of Franklinton; three Grandchildren Gail Hayes of Metairie, Carol Sue Bateman of Franklinton, and Debra Matulick of Columbia, MS; and three great-granchildren Scott Lee, Barrett Bateman, and Jamie Matulich.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hollis Sandifer.

Robert L. "Bobby" Parker, Jr.

(Died Sept. 24, 1999)

Funeral services have been completed for Robert L. 'Bobby' Parker, Jr. who died at the Washington -St. Tammany Regional Medical Center on September 24, 1999.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, October 1 at the Crain and Sons Funeral Home, Bogalusa. The funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. October 2 at the Sweet Rest Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. James Magee officiating. interment will follow in the Bogalusa Cemetery.

Parker is survived by his wife Patricia Parker; four daughters Ruby, Daine, Patrice, and Faledia Parker, all of Birmingham, AL.; two sons Robert III (Bull) and Derrick (Dek) Parker, both of Bogalusa; one sister, Debra Parker; two brothers Rev. Charlie (Joan) Parker, Sr. and Frank (Stephanie) Parker, all of Bogalusa; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Deacon and Mrs. Robert (Ruby) Parker, Sr.; one sister Diane P. Washington ; and two brothers John H. Parker and Julius C. Parker, Sr.
