Beverly L. LeBlanc
April 08, 2004

Beverly L. (Przystas) LeBlanc, 54, of Acushnet, died Thursday April 8, 2004 at home surrounded by her family after a long 2 1/2 year battle with ovarian cancer. She was the wife of Kenneth A. LeBlanc.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of Barbara L. (Neagus) Przystas of Acushnet and the late Theodore S. Przystas, she had lived in Acushnet all of her life.

She was a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church .

Mrs. LeBlanc was formerly employed by the Acushnet Company for 35 1/2 years until her retirement.

She was a devoted wife, mother and friend who was known for her generosity, her smile, her bubbly personality, and delicious cakes.

Survivors include her husband; her mother; a son, Jason LeBlanc of Fairhaven; a daughter, Wendy Gatto of Acushnet; 3 brothers, Rodney Reed, and his wife Mary, and Alvin Reed, and his wife Michele, all of New Bedford, and Paul Reed of Acushnet; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Tuesday April 13, 2004 at 7:45 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet, at 9 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday April 12, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will be in Acushnet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to O.C.E.A.N. at M.G.H., Mass. General Hospital Cox 110, 100 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.

Peter Lopes
April 07, 2004

Peter Lopes, 79, of New Bedford died Wednesday April 7, 2004 at Kristen Beth Nursing Home after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joaquin and Helena (Mendes) Lopes, he had lived in East Freetown for most of his life.

Mr. Lopes was formerly employed at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for several years.

Mr. Lopes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include two nephews, Edwin Lopes, Jr., and his wife Elaine, of East Freetown, and Robert Lopes, and his wife Dianne, of New Bedford; two nieces, Sheila Lopes of East Freetown, and Sandra "Chipper" Echevarria, and her husband Jorge, of New Bedford; and several cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was the brother of the late Edwin Lopes, Sr., and John Lopes, and uncle of the late Elaine M. Lopes.

His Funeral Service will be held on Thursday evening April 8, 2004 at 8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park Street, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 6-8 PM prior to the Funeral Service. His Committal Service will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne Friday April 9, 2004 at 10:15 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Life Pentecostal Church, 35 Maywood St., New Bedford, MA 02745.

Helia M. daSilva

Helia M. daSilva, 39, of Holbrook, formerly of New Bedford, died Monday April 5, 2004 at home after a long illness.

Born in Terceira, Azores, the daughter of Maria S. Gaipo of New Bedford and the late Helder Rocha, she had lived in New Bedford for most of her life before moving to Holbrook three years ago.

She was a communicant of St. James Church in New Bedford.

She enjoyed doing crafts.

Survivors include her mother; her companion, George F. Liarikos, III, of Holbrook; a daughter, Kendra Ramos of New Bedford; two sisters, Dina Pacheco and Nelia DeMelo, both of New Bedford; a granddaughter, Juelyzia Ramos; a niece, Lisa Botelho; and 2 nephews, Michael Pacheco and her godchild Craig DeMelo.

Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday April 12, 2004 at 10 AM in St. James Church, 233 County St., New Bedford. Visiting hours are omitted.

Francis Mahoney
April 04, 2004

Francis Mahoney, 88, of New Bedford died April 4, 2004 at home after a long illness.

He was the husband of Lillian (Palmieri) Ponte-Mahoney and the late Marie R. (Frigault) Mahoney and son of the late William S. and Mary E. (Ward) Mahoney.

Mr. Mahoney was born in New Bedford and lived in New Bedford most of his life.

He was formerly employed by the New Bedford Housing Authority as director of maintenance for several years until his retirement. Mr. Mahoney was previously employed with Mullen's Fish Freezer for several years.

Survivors include his wife; a step-daughter, Barbara Bracken, and her husband John, of Plymouth; 2 step-granddaughters, Jonna Bracken and Jaimee Bracken; many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Raymond Mahoney and William Mahoney.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Wednesday, April 7th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours Tuesday, April 6th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.

Herbert W. Nims
April 03, 2004

Herbert W. Nims of Stoneham passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, NH. He was 84 years of age.

Born in Watertown, Herbert was the son of the late Frederick Nims and Mae (Masterton) Nims. Herbert was a loving and caring son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all.

Herbert was a dedicated traffic director for the town of Stoneham for many years. During World War II, Herbert proudly served our country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Marines Corps.

Herbert was the beloved husband of 57 years to Hazel (Downs) Nims. He was the devoted father of David Nims and his wife Dale, Steven Nims and his wife Eileen, Patricia Nickerson and her husband Roy. Herbert was the cherished grandfather of Laura and Stephen Nickerson, Briana, Sarah and Kelsey Nims, the dear brother of Arlene Young, Joan Stander, Fred Nims and the late Robert Nims. Hebert was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Wednesday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Tuesday 5-9 pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.

Dora M. Cutone
April 02, 2004

Dora M. (Lepore) Cutone of Stoneham, formerly of Everett passed away on Friday, April 2, 2004 at Winchester Hospital. She was 83 years of age.

Born in Avellino, Italy she was the daughter of the late Domenic Lepore and Michelina (Pasquale) Lepore. Dora was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She will be missed by all who knew her. Her love for her family went unparalleled.

Dora was the beloved wife of the late Nicandro M. Cutone. She was the devoted mother of Richard T. Cutone and his wife Maureen of Stoneham, Robert Cutone and his wife Elizabeth of New Hampshire, Beverly DeVirgilio and her husband John of Stoneham. Dora was the cherished grandmother of Cherylyn, Kristin, Craig, Andrea, Melanie, Brian, Michael and the loving great grandmother of Justin and Janelle. Dora was the dear sister of Elmira Caprio of Wakefield and the late Esther Fiorentino of Everett.

Funeral from the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM Monday at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church 71 Central St. Stoneham at 10am. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Sunday 4-8pm. Parking attendants will be on duty. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Mary L. Ward
March 23, 2004

Mary L. Ward, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Stoneham, Massachusetts, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, in Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa. She was 90 years of age.

Born in Lawrence Massachusetts on May 3, 1913, Mary was the daughter of Andrew and Evelina (Blais) Lahey. Mary was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be missed by all. Mary was a library clerk at the Stoneham Public Library for 28 years, retiring in 1983.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ward of Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Ward of Orion, Illinois; two grandchildren, Joseph Ward and Anna Farley and her husband Martin; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen O’Gorman of Deland, Florida; and a brother, John Lahey of Lawrence.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday morning at 10am in St. Patrick’s Church, Stoneham. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery, in Lawrence.

Donations in memory of Mary may be made to the Stoneham Public Library, 431 Main St. Stoneham, MA 02180.

Dr. Robert F. Townsend
February 13, 2004

Dr. Robert F. Townsend of Stoneham passed away on Friday February 13, 2004 at his home. He was 57 years of age.

Born in Minnesota, he was the loving son of the late Theodore Townsend and Mary (Stark) Townsend. He was a loving and caring person who embraced all life had to offer. He will be missed by all.

Robert was the father of Nora S. Townsend and the former husband of Kathy Townsend. Robert is also survived by his beloved companion Maryann (Ritrovato) Ciavardone and her children Joseph Jr. and his wife Laurellyn, Philip, Anthony and Marianne.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Memorial Mass Monday at 11 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 71 Central St. STONEHAM. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in memory of Robert to St. Patrick’s Building Fund, 9 Pomeworth St. Stoneham.

Thomas J. Quinn
February 10, 2004

Thomas J. Quinn of Dennis passed away at his home on Tuesday, February 10, 2004. He was 69 years of age.

Born in Medford, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Quinn and Catherine (Foley) Quinn. Thomas was a loving and caring son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all.

Thomas was a dedicated accountant for Harvard Folding Box Corporation in Lynn for many years. He was dedicated to his family first and foremost. During the Korean Conflict, Thomas proudly served our country in the United States Army.

Thomas was the devoted father of Karen Pappa, Thomas J. Quinn Jr., Jean McGee and her husband Jim, Mary Newell and her husband Bill and Maureen Quinn. He was the cherished grandfather of nine adoring grandchildren and the dear brother of Jean McQuaide, Virginia Murphy and the late Ruth Barry. Thomas was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Friday, February 13, from 3-7pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church 71 Central St. Stoneham Saturday at 10am. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

John H. Bonfanti
September 27, 2003

John H. Bonfanti of Tewksbury passed away on Saturday September 27, 2003 at Northeast Specialty Hospital, Stoughton. He was 59 years of age.

The son of Dolly (Johnson) and the late Frank Bonfanti of Stoneham, John was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He was self employed since 1985 owning his own excavating company and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 218. John was a member of the Stoneham Elks and Orientals of Reading Car Club.

John is survived by his wife Carole (Russo) Bonfanti and his two children, John H. Bonfanti Jr., of Manhattan and Christina Bonfanti of Brookline. He was the loving son of Dolly (Johnson) and the late Frank Bonfanti of Stoneham and brother of Diane DeMinico of Woburn, Sandra L. Nickerson of Hampton, N.H., Deborah M. Chesley of Rowley, Frank P. Bonfanti Jr., of Stoneham, Francine Bonfanti of Alton, N.H., Olivia M. Drake of Laconia, N.H. Elise J. Noyes of Belmont, N.H., and James A. Davis of Tilton, N.H. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Joseph Doherty Funeral Home 11 Linden St., READING, Tuesday 4-8 p.m. A Funeral Service Wednesday, October 1st in All Saints Episcopal Church 79 Central St., STONEHAM at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.

Paul E. Holmes
June 02, 2003

Paul E. Holmes, retired United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, of Stoneham passed away on Monday June 2, 2003 at Bear Hill Nursing Center. He was 74 years of age.

Born in South Dakota, Mr. Holmes was a resident of Stoneham. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Mr. Holmes was also a proud United States Air Force Veteran. He will be missed by all.

Paul had a distinguished career as an officer in the United States Air Force where he received over fifty medals and honors. He was a Squadron Leader and B-52 pilot. Paul was awarded the Korean War Service Medal and was decorated for completing over 100 missions in Vietnam.

Paul was active with several different organizations. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club. He also frequented the Stoneham and Melrose Senior Centers where he liked to play cribbage and bridge.

Mr. Holmes was the beloved husband of Elizabeth (Myles) Holmes. He was the devoted father of Paula Holmes Taylor and her husband Glenn of Wakefield, Craig E. Holmes and his wife Marsha of Dallas, TX and Bruce A. Holmes and his wife Lauren of Highland Village, TX. Paul was the cherished grandfather of Joseph, Katherine, Stephen, Sarah, Paul and Kelly. He was the dear brother of James Holmes of CA and the late Robert Holmes and Carol Hermes.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday June 9, 2003 at 10 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 71 Central St. Stoneham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours Sunday June 8th from 4-7pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM.
