Linda A. (Jacobs) Melendez, August 28, 2002, age 56, of Russelton, Pennsylvania, formerly of Boston, Massachusetts, a homemaker, died unexpectedly.
Born in Boston, she attended schools there. She was a daughter of the late Anthony F. Jacobs and Lillian (Lincoln) Jacobs.

She is survived by two children; her fiancé, Gerald Gent; two brothers, Thomas Jacobs of Weymouth, MA and William Jacobs of Plymouth, MA; grandmother of Nicole Ashley Lugdon, Angelica Davenport and Michael Anthony Melendez Jr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Robert Jacobs.

A funeral service will be held at 8 P.M. Monday at Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Route 58 near North School) ABINGTON. Burial will be private. Visiting will be 6 – 8 P.M. Monday evening at the funeral home.

Dorothea T. "Babe" (Brennan) Murphy
August 10, 2002

Dorothea T. “Babe” (Brennan) Murphy, of Abington, formerly of Revere, August 10, 2002, age 73. Loving wife of Thomas J. Murphy; mother of Thomas J. Murphy Jr. of Revere and Kevin P. Murphy of Abington; sister of Joyce Gaskill of Revere, Patricia DeMaio of Georgetown, MA and Wesley Moore of Methuen.

Mrs. Murphy died Saturday at Brockton Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Winthrop, she attended Revere schools and was a 1948 graduate of Revere High School. She had lived in Revere all her life prior to moving to Abington nine years ago. Mrs. Murphy was a homemaker.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Rt. 58 near North School), ABINGTON, on Wednesday, August 14 at 8 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Nicholas Church in Abington at 9 A.M. Interment will be in Holy Family cemetery – Rockland. Visitation will take place at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 – 9 P.M.

Alice E. (Giniewicz) Mahoney
August 24, 2002

Alice E. (Giniewicz) Mahoney, August 24, 2002, age 82, life long resident of Abington. Wife of the late Francis W. Mahoney Sr. Mother of Patricia M. Mahoney of Abington and Francis W. Jr. and daughter-in-law Flora Mahoney of California. Sister of Stephania and Mary Giniewica, Helen Farrell and Katherine Sniger all of Abington, Blanche Dubrowski of Brockton and Ann Cicone of West Bridgewater. Grandmother of Jeffrey Moseley and Jennifer Hansen, great-grandmother of Shane and Luke Hansen all of California. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews and one great-grand nephew.
Alice E. Mahoney, 82, passed away at the South Shore Hospital following a sudden illness. Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Stephania (Bosak) Giniewicz. She was a graduate of Abington High School.

Mrs. Mahoney worked for the former Atlantic Card Company as a clerk and former Baystate Ice Cream Company both of Abington, prior to her retirement. A member of St. Bridget’s Church in Abington, the Abington Senior Citizens, and was also a volunteer for the Mildred Alford Nursing Home. She enjoyed crochet and knitting and taking care of her grandnieces and nephews.

David J. "Buka" Corcoran
August 24, 2002

David J. “Buka” Corcoran, August 24, 2002, age 64, of Plymouth, formerly of Abington. Beloved father of Thomas Corcoran of Illinois, Timothy and Todd Corcoran both of Arizona and the late Tracey Corcoran. Brother of John F. Corcoran of Whitman and Alice Gurnon of Abington. Also survived by six grandchildren.
David J. “Buka” Corcoran, 64, passed away at his home following a lengthy illness. He has been living in Plymouth the past 25 years. Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Doris J. (Kuzborski) Corcoran. He was a graduate of Abington High School Class of 1957.

Mr. Corcoran was an iron worker in Boston for Local 7 until his retirement.

Stephen J. Murphy

Stephen J. Murphy, life long resident of Abington, August 7, 2002, age 35. Son of Jane E. (Flaherty) Murphy of Abington; brother of Michael T. Murphy of Florida, Kerry K. Burt and Brian J. Murphy of Abington. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Stephen J. Murphy passed away in Lakeville unexpectantly.

Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Abington High School Class of 1984. He was a self-employed roofer.

John J. Barron
August 06, 2002

John J. Barron, of Taunton, former longtime resident of Abington, August 6, 2002, age 79. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Barron; eight sons, John Barron of Edgewater, Maryland, Robert Barron of Acworth, Georgia, Michael Barron of Belchertown, Mark Barron of Jackson, Wyoming, Stephen Barron of Pembroke, Chris Barron of Tavernier, Florida, Richard Barron of Bridgewater and Mark Gilmore of Janesville, Wisconsin; three daughters, Eileen Barron-White of Taunton, Meg Gilmore of Pacifica, California, and Karen Podrecca of Sandwich; a sister, Margaret Young of Florida; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

John J. Barron, a retired labor executive, died Tuesday at New England Medical Center in Boston.

Born, raised and educated in Boston, Mr. Barron lived in Abington before moving to Taunton 17 years ago.

He attended Northeastern University.

Mr. Barron was president of United Food and Commercial Workers Locals 224 and 1325, an executive vice president of the Massachusetts State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, the retiree coordinator for the Massachusetts AFL-CIO and a past president of the Brockton Labor Council.

After retiring, he became a real estate broker and was a member of the Bristol Board of Realtors and the Massachusetts State Board of Realtors.

He served on the Abington School Building Committee, the Abington Personnel Board and the Taunton Cable Commission. He was a candidate for Taunton City Council.

He was president of the Lands End Condominium Association and founded the Association of Taunton Condominium Owners.

Mr. Barron enjoyed coin collecting, bowling, and playing the harmonica. He traveled to Ireland frequently to visit relatives, also enjoyed visiting his children and their families all over the U.S.

Visitation is from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 P.M. on Friday at Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, (just off Route 58 near North School), ABINGTON. His funeral service will be 8 A.M. Saturday from the Quealy Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 A.M. at St. Bridget’s Church (Route 58) in Abington. Interment will be at St.Patrick’s cemetery in Rockland.

Elizabeth A. (Harrison) Ramsey
August 05, 2002

Elizabeth A. (Harrison) Ramsey, of Randolph, formerly of Dorchester, August 5, 2002, age 78. Beloved wife of the late Cecil V. Ramsey. Mother of Kathryn Dalton of Abington and grandmother of Jessica and Corey Dalton of Abington.
Elizabeth A. Ramsey, a retired legal secretary, died Monday at Northeast Specialty Hospital in Stoughton after a long illness.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Ramsey was a resident of Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation of Randolph for the past seven years. She previously lived in Dorchester.

She was a graduate of Boston public schools.

Visitation will take place at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, (just off Rt. 58 near North School) ABINGTON, on Thursday evening from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. On Friday at 11:00 A.M. a funeral service will be held in the funeral home. Pastor Paul Taylor will officiate. Interment will take place at Central cemetery in Randolph.

Daniel F. Smith Jr.
July 18, 2002

Daniel F. Smith Jr., of Carver, formerly of Abington, July 18, 2002, age 84, died at home after a brief illness. Husband of Harriet (Brown) Smith and the late Virginia (Welch) Smith. He is survived by his children, Daniel A. Smith of Milton, Patricia A. McKenna of Abington, Diane M. Martin of California, Jane E. Sykes of Falmouth and Roberta A. Themistocles of Hanover; his stepchildren, Lorraine Paons of Duxbury, Robert Richards of California and Jean Gray of Maine; and brother of the late John V. Smith. Also survived by 29 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he was a member of the Abington and Whitman Veterans of Foreign Wars posts and the Lewis Dorsey Post #12 American Legion in Abington.

Born in Brockton, he graduated from Rockland High School in 1936 and lived in Abington before moving to Carver 18 years ago.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Abington Highway Department.

Funeral from the Quealy and Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street (just off Rt. 58 near North School), ABINGTON, Monday, July 22 at 8 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church at 9 a.m. Interment will take place in the Veterans Lot at Mt. Vernon cemetery in Abington.

Visitation is Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Quealy and Son Funeral Home.

Kathleen A. (Gallagher) Somers
July 16, 2002

Kathleen A. (Gallagher) Somers, of Rockland, July 16, 2002, age 47. Wife of Police Officer Richard L. Somers of Rockland. Mother of Amy K. Somers of Abington and Police Officer Steven P. Somers of Rockland. Daughter of Alicemay (Stevens) Curry of Rockland and the late Robert Grignon Curry. Sister of Michael Gallagher of Wareham and David Gallagher of Carver. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
“Kathy”, a resident of Rockland the past 34 years, formerly of Abington, died at home following a long illness.

Born in Weymouth, she was a graduate of Rockland High School Class of 1972.

Since the mid 90’s, Kathy has been a holistic practitioner. She was a certified Reike Master and Meditation Leader at the Genevieve Lane Natural Healing Center in Norwell.

Joan E. (MacDonald) Crocker

Joan E. (MacDonald) Crocker, of Hanover, July 9, 2002, Age 63. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Walter C. Crocker; four sons, Walter C. Crocker Jr. of Plymouth, Stephen M. Crocker of Hanover, Thomas R. Crocker of Rockland and John F. Crocker of Hanover; a sister, Barbara M. McMahon of Quincy; four grandchildren, Amber, William, Alexis and Michael T. Crocker, all of Hanover. Mrs. Crocker and her husband raised their grandson Michael T. Crocker. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Crocker, a homemaker, died Tuesday in Rockland as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Quincy, a daughter of the late Leslie and Joan F. (Ash) MacDonald, she was a graduate of Weymouth High School. She had lived in Hanover since 1980.

Visitation will take place on Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Mary’s of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St. Hanover. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery in South Weymouth.

Frank E. Leines Sr.
June 18, 2002

Frank E. Leines Sr., of Abington, June 18, 2002, age 90, husband of the late Anna M. (Ford) Leines. He is survived by two sons, Theodore Brown of Florida and Frank E. Leines Jr. of Abington; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Frank E. Leines Sr., 90, of Abington, died Tuesday at Southwood Nursing Home in Norwell after a lengthy illness.

Born in Boston, a son of the late Jay E. and Edna V. (MacLeod) Leines, he attended Westwood High School. He moved to Abington 38 years ago from Brockton.

Mr. Leines was self-employed in the construction business before retiring.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Visiting hours are on Thursday evening from 7 - 9. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 21 at 11 A.M.. at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams St., ABINGTON, with the Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will be in the family lot at Hillside cemetery in Abington.

Victor Malinowski

Victor Malinowski, of Abington, June 17, 2002, age 89. Husband of the late Mary A. (Suprynowicz) Malinowski. Father of Thomas V. Malinowski of East Bridgewater, Lawrence D. Malinowski of Sedgwick, Maine and Michael J. Malinowski of No. Abington. Brother of the late Bruno Mainowski. Also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Victor Malinowski, 89, a lifelong resident of Abington, died Monday at Brockton Hospital following a lenthy illness.

Born in Abington, a son of the late Charles and Stefania (Dauksewicz) Malinowski, he attended Abington schools.

Mr. Malinowski worked as a shoemaker in the South Shore area for many years.

He was a member of the North Abington Polish Club.

Visitation will take place at the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, ABINGTON, on Thursday, June 20 from 7:30 A.M. - 8:30 A.M., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget's Church, Rt. 58, Abington at 9:00 A.M..

Barbara M. (Long) Fallon, of Abington, formerly of Milton and Dorchester, June 9, 2002, age 64. Mother of Ray Fallon of Chestnut Hill, Timothy J. Fallon of Milton, Maureen A. Hunt of Whitman, Kathleen A. Mackie of Nashville, Tennessee and the late Paul R. Fallon. Sister of Rita H. Winslow of Connecticut and Patricia A. Shanahan of West Dennis. Also survived by eleven grandchildren.
Barbara M. Fallon, a retired nurse, died Sunday at home following a brief illness.

Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Helen R. (Sobocinski) Long. She had resided in Dorchester and Milton before moving to Abington two years ago.

Prior to retirement, Mrs. Fallon worked as a nurse at Milton Hospital, Milton Health Care Facility and Meadowbrook Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility in Canton.

Funeral from the Quealy & Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, (just off Rt. 58 near North School) ABINGTON, Thursday, June 13, at 8 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bridget’s Church at 9 A.M..
