Stanley L. Britt
DENTON - Stanley L. Britt of Ridgely died Friday, August 11, 200, at Bay View-Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was 73.
Born at Huntingdon, Tenn., he was the son of the late Caroline Hampton.
As a child he moved to Caroline County, where he was raised by his aunts and where he attended public schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force and had been employed by Fox's Cannery in Queen Anne, and by Arthur Hammer near Ridgely. He retired from Grasonville Fisheries in Ridgely in 1984.
He was a member of the Mannie Scott American Legion Post No. 193, and had been a player and manager for the Cordova Hawks baseball team.
Mr. Britt is survived by his wife, Savanah Helen Britt; six sons, Stanley Britt of Tampa, Fla., Larry Britt, Kevin Britt, Melvin Pinkney and Jerry Newman, all of Ridgely, and Norris Newman of Denton; seven daughters, Diana Jackson of Orange, N.J., Angela Edmund of Tampa, Fla., Mary Shoultz of Philadelphia, Pa., Savannah Walker of Denton, Dolly Britt of Ridgely, Eleanor Flamer of Wilmington, Del. and Evangeline Pinkney of Centreville; 35 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, at Allen A.M.E. Church, Thomastown. Burial will be at Maryland Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery, Hurlock. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 until 11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Allen A.M.E. Church Building Fund, P.O. box 84, Hillsboro, Md. 21641.

Mary A. Cannon
CAMBRIDGE - Mary Ann Cannon of Cambridge died Thursday, August 20, 2000, at Dorchester General Hospital. She was 77.
Born June 9, 1923, in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late Brice Abraham and Mary Windsor Dean.
A graduate of Cambridge High School, she had been employed many years ago with DuPont.
Her husband, Edward R. Cannon died March 19, 1998.
Mrs. Cannon is survived by one brother, Thomas Dean of Salisbury; two grandsons, Brent E. Cannon and Garret R. Cannon, both of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Cannon, also of Ormond Beach. Deceased are one son, W. Edward Cannon, one sister, Hanna D. Tobin, and two brothers, Robert B. Dean and G. Winfield Dean.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 13, at Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service.
Memorial donations may be made to Dorchester Family YMCA, 201 Talbot Avenue, Cambridge, Md. 21613.

Ray E. Harris
EASTON - Ray Eldridge Harris of Easton died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at the William Hill Manor, Easton. He was 93.
Born May 2, 1907, in Little Birch, W.Va., he was the son of the late George R. and Nannie Henderson Harris.
Following graduation from high school in Sutton, W.Va., Mr. Harris attended Marshall University, graduating in 1931. In 1935 he graduated from West Virginia University, and later did graduate studies at the University of Chicago. He was principal at Calhoun County High School and then taught at Parkersburg High School in West Virginia. In 1946, he began a career at Shepherd College where he was professor and chair of the Math and Science Division, retiring in 1972.
Mr. Harris served on three Governors Education Commissions and was the president of the West Virginia Association of Higher Education from 1960 until 1961. Active in the professional and honorary botany associations, he did extensive writing on flora culture for high school textbooks.
Mr. Harris was a past chairman of the official board of the New Street Methodist Church in Shepherdstown, W.Va., past president of the Shepherdstown Men's Club and of Shepherdstown Town Council.
Mr. Harris' wife, Delberta Davis Harris, whom he married in 1936, died in 1971.
Mr. Harris is survived by two daughters, Barbara H. Osburn of Easton and H. Anne Harris of Annapolis; three brothers, Stanley R. Harris of Morgantown, W.Va., Earl K. Harris of Towson and Ernie W. Harris of Sutton, W.Va.; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be private.
Burial will be at a later date.
Arrangements are by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton.

Cynthia M. Hastings
EAST NEW MARKET - Cynthia Marie Hastings of Puckum died Friday, August 11, 2000, at her home. She was 42.
Born July 5, 1958 at Baltimore, she was the daughter of Grace Louise Disney of Puckum and the late Charles Tyson Harris.
Mrs. Hastings was owner and chief executive officer of C.M.H. Incorporated, a contracting company.
She was a member of American Legion Post No. 91, Ladies Auxiliary, in Cambridge, and the Moose Lodge in Cambridge.
In addition to her mother, Mrs. Hastings is survived by her husband, Robert Raymond Hastings of Puckum, to whom she was married Nov. 22, 1987; a daughter, Michelle Lynn Kukta of Puckum; three stepsons, Robert R. Hastings III of Greenwood, Del., Aaron Richard Hastings of Denton and Charles W. Hastings of Seaford; four brothers, Larry F. Mohr of Seaford, Jimmy Wayne Harris of Salisbury, Edward C. Disney Jr. of Fruitland and Charles Edward Disney of Merritt Island, Fla.; a sisters, Shirley Ann Disney of Baltimore; her stepfather, Edward C. Disney of Puckum; and six grandchildren. Her first husband, John Kukta Jr. is deceased.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, at Zeller Funeral Home, East New Market. Burial will be at Eldorado Cemetery. Friends may call at Mrs. Hastings home in Puckum on Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m., and at the funeral home on Monday from 1 until 2 p.m.

Eldridge W. Rippons
CAMBRIDGE - Eldridge W. "Capt. El" Rippons of Hoopersville died Friday, August 11, 2000, at Dorchester General Hospital. He was 70.
Born Aug. 8, 1930, at Hoopersville, he was the son of the late Thomas Cleveland and Mary Adams Rippons.
A 1947 graduate of Hoopers Island High School, he operated Elco Sales and Services, then worked at Hall and Doty Plumbing. He and his wife operated Rips Seafood Market for 12 years. Mr. Rippons also was a commercial waterman.
On Dec. 13, 1951, he married Laura Lane. She died July 30, 1992.
He was a member of Hoopers Island United Methodist Church, an honorary member of Hoopers Island Volunteer Fire Company, a member of the Dorchester County Waterman's Association, Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M., Boumi Temple and Scottish Rite.
Mr. Rippons is survived by two daughters, Mary "Jenny" Rippons Collevechio and Cynthia Rippons Forester, both of Trappe; one son, Eldridge W. Rippons Jr. of Hoopersville; two sisters, Ethel Josephine Parks of Hoopersville and Anna M. Hall of Cambridge; and five grandchildren. Deceased are one sister, Ada Jones, two brothers, Melvin Rippons and C. Leroy Rippons Sr., and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, August 15, at Hoopers Memorial United Methodist Church, Hoopersville. Burial will be at Old Trinity Churchyard. Friends may call on Monday from 7 until 9 p.m., at Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge, where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 will hold a memorial service at 8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Hoopers Memorial United Methodist church, c/o Carolyn Noland, 1728 Hoopersville Road, Hoopersville Md. 21634.

Catherine N. Sard
CAMBRIDGE - Catherine Nora Sard of Cambridge, formerly of Trappe, died Thursday, August 10, 2000, at Chesapeake Woods Center, Cambridge. She was 89.
Born Dec. 2, 1910, in Easton, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Florence Brumbaugh Lasier.
She grew up in the Harmony area. After attending public school in Caroline County, she married Lloyd Earl Sard in 1929. The resided in Trappe. Mr. Sard died in February 1990.
She was a member of Countryside Christian Church in Cambridge.
Mrs. Sard is survived by two daughters, Evelyn V. Parillo of Hurlock and Virginia M. McGrath of Cambridge; three sons, Lloyd A Sard and William H. Sard, both of Bruceville and Ronald L. Sard of Preston; a sister, Ethel Elliot of Dunnsville, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are two sons, Jesse Sard and Alan Sard, one daughter, Marjorie Halsey, one sister, Mary Lasier and one granddaughter.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 14, at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, Easton. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Cordova.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m.

Christopher A. Bloodsworth
CAMBRIDGE - Christopher A. Bloodsworth of Cambridge, newborn son of Shane Bloodsworth and Teresa Bennett, both of Cambridge, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital at Easton.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Louis R. Bennett of Hurlock and Joan Brooks of Denton; his paternal grandmother, Cindy Hastings-Cannon of Cambridge; his maternal great-grandmother, Ada Rosalie Bennett of Hurlock; his paternal great-grandmother, Frances Bloodsworth of Cambridge; and two brothers, Corey Alan Bennett and Craig Alan Bennett Jr.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11 at East New Market Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Soul's Harbor Church of God, 718 Peachblossom Ave., Cambridge, Md. 21613.
Arrangements are by Thomas Funeral Home, Cambridge.
