Ronald L. Moore

HANCOCK, Md. - Ronald Lester Moore, 56, of Toll Gate Ridge, Hancock, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, in Cumberland, Md.

Born Jan. 10, 1941, in Indian Springs, Md., he was the son of Gerldean E. Risinger Moore of Hagerstown and the late Lester Franklin Moore.

He was retired from WD Byron Tannery, Williamsport.

He was of the Episcopal faith.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Kay Gossard Moore; one daughter, Cealie K. Smith of Hilldale, Pa.; three sons, Vonn B. Moore of Boston, Mass., Jason S. Moore and Justin D. Moore of Hancock; three brothers, George H. Moore of Big Pool, Md., Brian D. Moore of Hagerstown, and Kenneth F. Moore of Williamsport; nieces; and nephews.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. George Pugh and the Rev. Andy Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open Monday at 9 a.m.

Helen G. Hovermale

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Helen G. Hovermale, 63, of Route 4, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born Oct. 18, 1933, in Hancock, she was the daughter of the late Orville and Minnie Pearl Wertz Leader.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul N. Bivens, in 1969.

She was retired from Washington County Board of Education.

She was a member of Hancock Presbyterian Church.

She was a member of Prayer Fellowship Group, Hancock; and Stonecraft Christian Womens Club.

She is survived by her second husband, Robert L. Hovermale of Berkeley Springs, whom she married in 1974; three daughters, Pauline Keefer and Vickie Miller, both of Berkeley Springs and Marjorie Roman of Hancock; three sons, Edward Bivens and Rodney Bivens, both of Hancock and Ted Bivens of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Mildred Hann of Hancock and Margaret Pryor of Clarksburg, Md.; one brother, Walter Leader of Owings Mills, Md.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Swain; three brothers, Marshall Leader, Myron Leader and Watson Leader.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Hancock Presbyterian Church, 17 East Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Robert W. McCarter will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock; and at the church one hour prior to the service. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Monday from 2 to 9 p.m.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Hancock Presbyterian Church, 17 E. Main St., Hancock, Md. 21750, or to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, W.Va. 25401.

Ethel B. Stouffer

MARION, Pa. - Ethel B. Stouffer, 84, of Marion, who died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, is survived by a brother, Joseph Wagaman of Waynesboro, Pa.

David A. McQuay Sr.

PARKVILLE, Md. - David A. "Tony" McQuay Sr., 50, of Parkville, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997.

His wife, Rita J. McQuay, 43, also died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997.

Born in December 1946, he was the son of Milton and Dorothy McQuay of Williamsport.

He is survived by his grandfather, John Milton McQuay; one son, David A. McQuay Jr.; two sisters, Lisa Gossard and Sheri McQuay; one niece; and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Stephen McQuay.

Services will be Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Ursula's Church, Parkville. Burial will be in Moreland Memorial Park, Parkville.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Evans Chapel of Memories, Parkville.

Charles S. Martin

BOONSBORO - Charles Samuel Martin, 88, of 24 Chestnut Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro.

Born March 13, 1909, in Franklin Township, Pa., he was the son of the late George A. and Bertha M. Beaver Martin.

He was employed as a custodian by Washington County Board of Education in Boonsboro for 14 years and retired in 1974. He retired as a bricklayer after 27 years of service. He also was a bus driver and substitute teacher for Washington County Board of Education. He was a former doorman at American Legion Post 202, Williamsport, meter master and school crossing guard for the town of Boonsboro.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He a member of Boonsboro Bible Church.

He was an agent for the Bricklayers Local 3, Hagerstown.

He was a volunteer at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.

He a life member of American Legion Post 10, Boonsboro; member and past president of Keedysville Ruritan Club, Williamsport Red Men Club 84, and DAV.

He was organizer of the Babe Ruth League in Boonsboro. He was organizer and first president of South Mountain Little League.

He is survived by one daughter, Mary F. Martin of Boonsboro; one granddaughter, Kathy S. Castle of Boonsboro; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by Helen M. Ashbaugh Smith, mother of his daughter; and one sister, Edna Martin.

Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Joseph Downs and the Rev. Ernest E. Pletcher will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery, Boonsboro. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Morris Frock American Legion Post 42.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to South Mountain Little League.

Nancy S. Grogan

Nancy Suzanne Grogan, 71, of 17431 Gay St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at Williamsport Nursing Home, Williamsport.

Born Aug. 1, 1926, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Roger and Margaret C. Gruber Clagett Jr.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

She was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Greencastle, Pa.

She is survived by her husband, George A. Grogan Jr.; one daughter, D. Suzanne Grove of Hagerstown; three sons, Gary W. Grogan of Acworth, Ga., Patrick J. Grogan of Hagerstown and Shawn T. Grogan of Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Clinton Roger Clagett III.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward H. Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or American Cancer Society, Washington County Unit, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

Catherine Obitts

WILLIAMSPORT - Catherine Obitts, 94, formerly of East Church Street, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.

Born April 25, 1903, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Annie Rebecca Miller Jacobs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Frederick Obitts, in 1990.

She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport.

She is survived by one daughter, Jeraline Elizabeth Straino of Astoria, N.Y.; one half-brother, James Jacobs of Clover, S.C.; three granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker and Assistant Pastor Debra Roberson will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday one hour prior to the services.

Raven L. Johnson

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Raven Lydia Johnson, infant daughter of Dana Andrew Johnson and April Haloftis of Martinsburg, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, in City Hospital, Martinsburg.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Stephan Haloftis, at home; maternal grandparents, Harry and Margaret Peyton of Martinsburg; paternal grandparents, Carolyn Roman and Reggie Johnson, both of Martinsburg; maternal great-grandmother, Pauline Cole of Martinsburg; and paternal great-grandmother, Margaret Coles of Martinsburg.

Graveside services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg. Pastor Michael Bageant will officiate.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Norman R. Miller

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Norman R. Miller, 78, of 703 Mahantango Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at his home.

Born April 13, 1919, in Belsano, Pa., he was the son of the late Everett and Lillian Goldberg Miller.

He was the owner and operator of the former Miller's Garage in Chambersburg. He retired due to health in 1982.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Chambersburg Bible Church, Chambersburg.

He was a former member of Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club.

He is survived by his wife, Mary M. Wible Miller, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1940; four daughters, Peggy J. Harrison of Naples, Fla., Lonnie D. Sponsier of Anniston, Ala., Carol L. Laye of Harrisburg, Pa., and Shelby Lake of Chambersburg; three brothers, Harold Miller of Baltimore, Everett Miller of Saxton, Pa., and Blaine Miller of Glen Burnie, Md.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. John R. Springer and the Rev. David Kraft will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Lynford G. Moser

Lynford Gordon Moser, 74, of 230 Hebb Road, Hagerstown, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at his home.

Born Oct. 9, 1923, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Austin L. Moser and Julia H. Moser Boutchard.

He was employed by Exxon Co. USA, retiring after 34 years of service and was later employed by Ewing Oil and AC&T.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

He was a member of Hagerstown Exchange Club, Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion, BPO Elks Lodge 378 and SCORE.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Forsythe Moser; one daughter, Kelyn L. Moser of Astoria, Ore.; one son, Rick A. Moser of Graham, N.C.; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 129 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard W. Simpson will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

Edward J. Barnhart

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Edward J. Barnhart, 81, of 5272 Wayne Road, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital Emergency Room.

Born July 23, 1916, in State Line, Pa., he was the son of the late Emmert and Mable Gardenhour Barnhart.

He was owner and operator of E.J. Barnhart Trucking in Chambersburg for 47 years and retired in 1991.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Open Door Church, Chambersburg.

He was a member of Good SAM Club, Chambersburg Chapter 25.

He is survived by his wife, Florence V. Yeager Barnhart, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1935; two daughters, Doris Taylor and Donna Shank, both of Chambersburg; one son, Charles E. Barnhart of Chambersburg; four sisters, Madeline Smiley, Thelma Hummer and Armatha Haugh, all of Chambersburg, and Lovetta "Betty" Carbaugh of Chambersburg; two brothers, Charles Barnhart of Chambersburg and Elwood Barnhart of Waynesboro; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Services will be Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Keith Skelton, the Rev. Jerry Traister and the Rev. Arthur Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Tuesday.
