Abbott, Sr., James W.
James W. Abbott, Sr. of Toddville, passed away on Wednesday April 25, 2001 after a lengthy illness. He was 60. He was born in Cambridge on January 18, 1941 and was the son of the late Winnie and Dorothy Robbins Abbott.
He had graduated from South Dorchester High School in 1959. From August 31, 1961 until May 30, 1966 he had served in the U.S. Army. He had served in West Berlin. Mr. Abbott had worked as a commercial waterman for most of his life. He had been an avid trapper for many years and was the National Muskrat Skinning Champion in 1966. He was a member of the Maryland Waterman’s Association and had attended the Wingate United Methodist Church. Mr. Abbott had been in failing health since last October, and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital for one week when he passed away on Wednesday.
He is survived by his wife. Diane R. Abbott of Toddville, one daughter, Candace A, Abbott of Cleveland, Ohio, one son and daughter in law, James W. “Jay” and Donna Abbott of Crapo, three grandchildren, Jenna Abbott, Amanda Abbott and Ryan Landmark, his mother in law, Evelyn E. Robinson of Toddville, one brother, Wylie Abbott, sr. of Elliott, three brothers in law, Rodney Robinson, Michael Robinson and Richard Robinson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Jackson and a brother, W. Douglas Abbott.
A Funeral service will be held on Monday morning at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Sonny Benton officiating. Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service on Monday. Jack H. Adams
Jack H. Adams, 73, of Rising Sun, MD, died Wednesday, December 27, 2000 in Perry Point VA Hospital. He was born in Imperial, PA on June 22, 1927 and was a son of the late Jacob and Suzanna Adams.
Mr. Adams was a WWII veteran in US Marine Corp. He served aboard the USS Breckenridge in the South Pacific. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #194 in Rising Sun and a life member of the VFW Post #418 in McKees Rocks, PA. He was a member of various horseman organizations. Mr. Adams was a blacksmith and an owner, trainer and driver of Standard Breed trotting horses. He was an avid outdoorsman.
Mr. Adams is survived by sons, Joseph Adams and John Adams, both of Rising Sun, MD; daughters, Valerie Adams of Folsom, CA and Elizabeth Gwaltney of North East, MD; brother, Charles Adams of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is set for Saturday, December 30, 2000 at the R.T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD. Funeral service and burial to be held in Imperial, PA.
Adams, Eva Pearl
Eva Pearl Adams, 94 of Salisbury died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 in Waterview Nursing Home.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2001 at 2:00 PM in Mardela Memorial Cemetery in Mardela Springs.

Adkins, Laura "Polly" R.
Laura R. “Polly” Adkins, 90, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care. Born Collington, PA, she was the daughter of the late Andrew W. and Clara Violet Jones Keegan. Her husband, George Henry Adkins preceded her in death.
Mrs. Adkins retired from Super Giant in 1972 with twelve years of service. She was a member of Mt. Hermon Homemakers Club, Mt. Hermon Methodist Church, and 1910 Pen Pal Club. She was a volunteer at Deer’s Head Center. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
A graveside committal service will be held Thursday, May 24, 2001 11 AM at Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury.

Adkins, Carlton William
Carlton William Adkins, 81 of Salisbury died Friday, April 20, 2001 at his residence. Born in Hebron, he was the son of the late John William and Bertha Lee Brown Adkins.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth Elizabeth Adkins; three children and their spouses, Ralph and Connie Adkins of Willards, Jerry and Carolyn Adkins and Janice and Harvey Joudrey all of Salisbury; 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Adkins was in the farming and hatchery business. He attended the First Church of the Nazarene where he was a member of the Ambassador Class. He was a World War II Army veteran.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at 2:00 PM in Holloway Funeral Home where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Joel Beiler will officiate. Interment will be held in Wicomico Memorial Park.

Adkins, Ruby Cinderella
Ruby Cinderella Adkins, 77, of Pocomoke City, died Monday, August 6, 2001 at Hartley Hall in Pocomoke City, MD. Born in Princess Anne, she was the daughter of the late Fitzhugh Lee Adams and Henrietta Belle Fisher Adams.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and her extended family and friends of Hartley Hall. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Pauline V. Dorsey, Marie Adams, Elizabeth L. Townsend, and Verta Mae Adkins; and a brother, William Cathell Adams.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 9, 2001 at 11 AM at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury. The Rev. J. Harvey Dixon will officiate.

Adkins, Clifton Thomas
Salisbury: Clifton Thomas Adkins, 81, of Salisbury died on Thursday August 9, 2001 at Waterview Health Care Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury on June 1, 1920 he was the son of the late Grover C. Adkins and Clara O. Hearn Adkins. He was preceded in death by his first wife Margie Lee Adkins who died in 1971 and his second wife Mary Rayne Adkins who died in 1998.
Mr. Adkins was a lifelong farmer. He loved the land and being outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the Wicomico County Farm Bureau.
Mr. Adkins is survived by five children, David T. Adkins and his wife Betty of Woodbridge, VA, Peggy L. Hastings and her husband Jerry of Laurel, DE, Kenny A. Adkins of Delmar, Philip W. Adkins and his wife Bonnie of Salisbury, and Dennis D. Adkins and his wife Mary of Salisbury, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a niece, Linda M. King of Delmar, and a nephew, Edwin G. King of Delmar. A sister C. Evelyn Adkins King who died in 1999 preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be held on Monday at 2:00 P.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Barry N. Devine will officiate. Interment will follow in Parsons Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Adkins to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803.
Akins, Norman
Norman (Ike) Akins, age 88, of Darlington, Maryland passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, April 4, 2001. Born on December 12, 1912, he was the youngest of 8 children of the late Graham and Maggie Akins.
He was educated at Hosanna School, Berkley, Maryland, (historical landmark). In early years he worked in Darlington, Maryland on a local farm. He came to live with his sister the late Pearline Dorsey at an early age and remained in the family home where loving care was provided by his niece Edna Branch.
Ike, as he was known by family and friends was a man of simplicity, he enjoyed setting outside on the porch or under a shade tree, watching old westerns which he referred to as “my cowboys”, laughing with family members and his Sir Riley tobacco pipe.
Ike never married or had children. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Wharton Akins, Pearline Dorsey, George Akins, Gertrude Christy, Serena Webster, Leon Akins, and Taff Akins.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Edna M. Akins (wife of the late George Akins) of Stewartstown, PA; and four generations of the Akins, Dorsey, and Webster Families.
Alderman, Ruth A.
Ruth A. Alderman, 84, of Rising Sun, MD died Thursday, March 15, 2001 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD.
Mrs. Alderman, a homemaker, was born on December 8, 1916 in Oxford, PA. She was a member of the American Legion Post 194 Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Riley and a sister, Peggy Blesch, both of Rising Sun; 3 grandchildren, Robin Riley of Silver Spring, MD, Randy Riley of Rising Sun, and Michele Brown of Conowingo, MD; and 3 great grandchildren, Lindsey Riley, Samantha Riley and Trever Brown.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Street Eugene Riley, who passed away in 1955 and Mack L. Alderman, who passed away in 1993.
Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday March 19, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call Sunday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. Burial will be in West Nottingham Cemetery, Colora, MD.
Inez M. Hill
Inez M. Hill, 93, of 18427 Maugans Ave., who died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, was a resident of Colton Villa Nursing Home, Hagerstown. She is also survived by a brother, Edward Leakins of Frederick.
David W. Wix
WINCHESTER, Va. - David W. Wix, 63, of Winchester, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Feb. 1, 1934, in Saltville, Va., he was the son of the late John Wix.
Graveside services were at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Va.
Arrangements were by Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.
Tyler S. Dodson Sr.
WILLIAMSPORT - Tyler Simpson Dodson Sr., 88, a resident of Williamsport Nursing Home, and formerly of 623 N. Main St., Boonsboro, and Potomac, Md., died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born June 30, 1909, in Leesburg, Va., he was the son of the late Turner Ashby and Hattie Mae Nichols Dodson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Viola Dodson, in 1989.
He had farmed for many years for the Sisters of Mercy on the Kentsdale Farm in Potomac. He had been a school bus driver for Our Lady of Mercy School in Potomac.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Boonsboro.
He is survived by one daughter, Betty J. Thacker of Myersville, Md.; two sons, Tyler S. Dodson Jr. of Frederick, Md., and Wayne John Dodson of Dickerson, Md.; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, Main Street, Boonsboro. The Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant. Burial will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery, Baltimore Road, Rockville, Md. The Rev. James Downs will be celebrant.
The family will receive friends at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Sunday and Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., where a wake service will be at 7 p.m. Monday.
Charles C. Kunkleman
Charles Chester Kunkleman, 76, formerly of 421 South Burhans Blvd., and most recently a resident of Clearview Nursing Home, died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1921, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John and Mae Ott Kunkleman.
He was retired from Fairchild Corp., after 45 years.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
He was Past-Worshipful Master of Hagerstown Lodge 217 AF&AM; and Past-Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hagerstown 89.
He is survived by his wife, K. Janice Kunkleman; three daughters, Candace Goss and Vicky Smith, both of Hagerstown and Cynthia Black of Thurmont, Md.; one son, David J. Kunkleman of Hagerstown; three brothers, Benjamin Kunkleman and Tom Kunkleman, both of Hagerstown, and John Kunkleman of Falling Waters, W.Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be no funeral services.
There will be no viewing.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
