John W. Schlotterbeck
John William "Bill" Schlotterbeck, 79, of 11 W. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at his home.
Born March 6, 1918, in Washington County, he was the son of the late John F. and Anna Knight Schlotterbeck.
His wife, Helen Vada Schlotterbeck, died in 1980.
He was employed by Haverhill Construction, and previously with C.W. Wright and Central Chemical Co.
He is survived by five daughters, Margaret Eichelberger, Sheila Kay Nuse, Janice Ann Minnich, Vedeania Beverly Thomas, and Mary Ardella Brown, all of Hagerstown; two sons, Gerald L. Schlotterbeck and Michael Ray Schlotterbeck, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Betty Knode of Hagerstown; one brother, George Schlotterbeck of Hagerstown; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Herbert William Schlotterbeck; three brothers, Richard Schlotterbeck, Harry Schlotterbeck and Vernon Schlotterbeck; and one half-brother, Cleveland Russell Black.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. William Crowe will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Kenneth R. Stevens III
Kenneth Raymond Stevens III, 25, of 1380 Marshall St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 16, 1972, in Hagerstown, he was the son of Kenneth R. Stevens Jr. of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and the late Diane Mele Everhart. He was the stepson of Drelene Stevens of Berkeley Springs.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by one sister, Jesse Stevens, at home; two brothers, Joshua Stevens and Joel Stevens, both at home; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Ruby Stevens Sr. of Berkeley Springs; an aunt and uncle, Brenda and Dennis Rhinehart; and other aunts and uncles.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. Pastor L. Daniel Garlitz will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.
Ethel M. Stotler
WILLIAMSPORT - Ethel Marie Stotler, 67, of 12308 Cedar Ridge Road, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born March 18, 1930, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Willard Hart and Louise R. Shaw Stevens.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Mount Calvary Church of God, Clear Spring.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph T. Stotler; two daughters, Belinda Rosenberry of Big Pool, and Patti Reed of Hancock; one son, R. Thomas Stotler II of Clear Spring; four sisters, Julia Vosburgh and Harriet Paulsgrove, both of Hagerstown, Doris Morrow of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Patricia Downin of Williamsport; one brother, Harry Stevens of Boonsboro; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Stevens Knable; and three brothers, Willard V. Hart, Lauren C. "Bud" Stevens, and Harold "Gene" Stevens.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Donald E. Thompson Funeral Home, 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring. The Rev. Robert E. Timmons will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary L. Hull
Mary Louise Hull, 77, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home in Boonsboro.
Born June 6, 1920, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Earl K. and Mabel B. Mentzer.
Her husband, Ralph Charles Hull, died in 1975.
She was a 1938 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
She was a member of Longmeadow Church of the Brethren and Women's Fellowship. She was a Sunday school superintendent and a Sunday school teacher.
She loved flowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Joan L. Coblentz of Mount Airy, Md., and Rebecca F. Holmes of Harrisonburg, Va.; three sons, Jeffry C. Hull of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Peter W. Hull and Steven E. Hull, both of Sharpsburg; one brother, Glenton Mentzer of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Warren Mentzer.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hagerstown. The Rev. Byrl Shaver will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown, today from 7 to 9 p.m.

Eva L.J. Showe
BOONSBORO - Eva Lorena Jones Showe, 81, of 8031A Old National Pike, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Avalon Manor Health Care Center in Hagerstown.
Born June 10, 1916, in Brunswick, Md., she was the daughter of the late Nimrod A. and Anna A. Hause Jones.
Her husband, Leonard Preston Showe, died in 1993.
She retired from Londontown Corp. in Boonsboro.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy L. Smith of Hancock, and Linda Mae Hettenhouser of Hagerstown; one son, E. Wayne Showe of Boonsboro; one sister, Catherine Lobach of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one brother, Joseph Jones of Wichita, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald P. Showe and Ronald Paul Showe; three sisters, Mae Jones, Dolly Embly and Madge Gonzalez; one brother, John Jones; and a grandson.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Odell Stone will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.

Jennie L. Huff
Jennie Lee "Nana" Huff, 85, of 1098 Marshall St., Hagerstown, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Pinesburg, she was the daughter of the late David F. and Mary S. Palmer Staley.
Her husband, John S. Huff, died in 1980.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Betty Jane Huff of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, Pamela Creager and Mary Ann Fox, both of Hagerstown, Kathy Marshall of Fairplay, Steven Shifflett of Smithsburg, Frankie Weaver of Tucson, Ariz., and Angie Zeigler of Columbia, S.C.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Louise Shifflett; one son, Donald E. Huff; one sister, Lyda Teach; and two brothers, Raymond Staley and William Staley.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Robert C. Barton, the Rev. Darryl Zoller, and the Rev. Alvin Shaffer will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Palmer B. Hager
NEW YORK CITY - Palmer Brown Hager, 83, of New York City, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, in New York.
Born in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Charles Royer and Lelia Mary Bloom Hager.
His wife, Grace V. Hager, died in 1977.
Following a career with IBM, he retired in New York City.
He was a 1931 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He was a 1935 graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He was a member of the Honorary Engineering Society.
He is survived by one brother, three nieces, five great-nieces and three great-nephews.
Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
Violet G. Grove
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. - Violet G. Grove, 92, of San Leandro, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at House Care Center, San Leandro.
Born in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Elizabeth Lewis.
Her husband, Robert L. Grove, died in 1969.
She is survived by four sons, Gerald Grove and Kenneth Grove, both of California, Jack Grove of New Bern, N.C., and Randall Grove of Williamsburg, Va.; one brother, Charles S. Lewis of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ellen Grimm; and three brothers, Lloyd Lewis, Robert Lewis and Milton Lewis.
Services and burial were held in California.
May E. Krepp
BALTIMORE - May Ellen Krepp, 82, formerly of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Stella Maris Hospice in Baltimore, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Frank J. and Hazel E. Krepp.
She was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary's High School, the school's first graduating class. She entered the religious order of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, taking the name Sister Mary Marcelina.
She attended College of Notre Dame of Maryland, earned an advanced professional certificate for elementary and secondary music education. She was awarded a master of music degree from Catholic University of America.
She taught vocal, piano and general school music in elementary and high schools at the Cathedral, Institute of Notre Dame and Notre Dame Preparatory Schools in Baltimore, St. John's in Frederick, Md., St. Maria Goretti in Hagerstown and Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pa. In most of these assignments, she also was organist and choir director and taught academic subjects when needed.
In 1969, she left the religious order and was employed by Baltimore County Public School System, teaching vocal music at Hillendale Elementary School. She retired in 1981.
She drove senior citizens and disabled people to medical appointments, on shopping excursions and pleasure trips.
She was involved in volunteer activities including Senior Box Office and Baltimore County Foster Care Review Board. She was a member of National Education Association, Maryland State Teachers Association, Music Educators National Conference, Teachers Association of Baltimore County, Association of Teacher Educators of Maryland and Retired Teachers Association of Maryland.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Rehak of Charlottesville, Va., and Margaret O'Meara of Baltimore; one brother, William F. Krepp of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated April 25 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8501 Loch Raven Blvd., Baltimore.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to School Sisters of Notre Dame, 6401 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md. 21212-1016.
