Maurice C. Landers
HANCOCK - Maurice Clifford Landers, 79, of Virginia Avenue, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Clifford Benjamin and Molly Elizabeth Reel Landers.
His wife, Helen Lee Hovermale Landers, died in 1973.
He was a 1936 graduate of Hancock High School.
He retired in 1989 as an agent for State Farm Insurance in the Hancock area after 38 years.
From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Asia-Pacific area.
A two-term mayor of Hancock, he was instrumental in bringing Rayloc and Prowler to the town.
He was commercial credit manager for People's National Bank and Hancock Bank.
He was a member of Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church, and a member of the board of deacons.
He was a life member and past commander of Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, life member of Hancock VFW Post 10502 and a member of Hancock Volunteer Fire Co. for 47 years.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie E. Miller Landers, whom he married Sept. 30, 1973; a daughter, Linda Ann Haupt of Hagerstown; a son, Donald Benny Landers of Hancock; a stepdaughter, Ellen Diane Golden of Hagerstown; two stepsons, David Joseph Diehl of Hancock and William Lee Rankin of Hagerstown; a sister, Catherine M. Mazingo of Hancock; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Caddie, Louise Hoffman, Esther Mitchell and Leola Landers; a brother, William Landers; and a grandson.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Olivet Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Phillip Unger will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown, with military graveside services by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, from 6 to 9 p.m. today; and at the church one hour prior to service on Wednesday. The funeral home will be open from 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Melvin E. Detrich
Melvin Eugene Detrich, 69, of 1026 Georgia Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Oct. 31, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Clarence Lee and Mabel Grace Raith Detrich.
He was employed by Kmart for 18 years, and with Potomac Dye and Printing for 22 years.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by four sisters, Betty Jane Kelly and Vanette Sensenbaugh, both of Hagerstown, Betty Jean Fox of Bellefonte, Pa., and Sarah Summerville of Keedysville; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William B. Detrich and Harold A. Detrich.
Burial and services will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd.
Marie E. Amaral
MANASSAS PARK, Va. - Marie Elizabeth Amaral, 71, of Manassas Park, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Oak Springs Nursing Home in Warrenton, Va.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel A. Amaral Jr.
She was a member of Manassas Park Senior Citizens.
She is survived by three sons, John Amaral of Sterling, Va., and James Amaral and Chip Amaral, both of Manassas Park; two brothers, Russell Anderson of Torrington, Conn., and Charles Anderson of North Reading, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Amaral and Charles Amaral.
Services will be held Thursday at noon at Blasius-Baker Funeral Home, 9320 West St., Manassas, Va. Burial will be in Culpeper National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Howard M. Iseminger Sr.
Howard Michael Iseminger Sr., 92, of 18730 Northridge Drive, Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born May 22, 1906, in Funkstown, he was the son of the late Keller and Ada Kidd Iseminger.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby I. Iseminger.
He owned and operated Iseminger's Exxon Service Station at Park Circle from 1932 until he retired in 1975.
He was a member of Hagerstown Lodge 217 A.F.&A.M. and Cumberland Scottish Rite.
He is survived by one son, Howard M. Iseminger Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va.; one brother, Bertrand Iseminger of Funkstown; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Iseminger.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.

John M. Kline
John Martin Kline, 88, of 510 E. Franklin St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 28, 1909, in Wolfsville, Md., he was the son of the late Curtis and Clemmie Shepley Kline.
He was a former employee of Cavetown Planing Mill; M.P. Moller Organ Co.; Fairchild Aircraft; and retired in 1977 from Fort Detrick in Frederick, Md. after 17 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.
He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Hagerstown and Busy Men's Bible Class.
He was a member of Clopper-Michael Post 10 American Legion in Boonsboro.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Elizabeth Stotler Kline, whom he married Dec. 22, 1937; one daughter, Betty M. Kline Walter of Myersville, Md.; one sister, Miriam Rice of Middletown, Md.; one brother, Martin Kline of Smithsburg; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will be in Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Theodore Cook
NORTH ADAMS, Mich. - Theodore "Ted" Cook, 81, of 449 W. Main St., died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Born Oct. 8, 1916, in Collinsville, Ill., he was the son of the late George and Margrite Weir Coukoulis.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Murphy Cook.
He was a retired businessman from Detroit, where he worked as a bookkeeper and in the dry cleaner-laundry business. He operated a pool hall in Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Melinda Varady; one daughter, Kathy Jane Davis of Deerville, Texas; two sons, George Cook of North Adams and Terry Cook of Garland, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Varady.
There will be no service.
Family and friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kurtz-Towns Funeral Homes, North Adams.
Memorial donations may be made to the national, state or local Democratic Party.
Louise C. Young
MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Louise Catherine Young, 91, formerly of 200 W. Main St., died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick, Md.
Born Aug. 16, 1906, in Middletown, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Austin A. and Lena Newcomer Lamer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David H. Young, in 1986.
She was a member of Middletown United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Middletown Homemakers Club, Frederick County Republican Women Club, Frederick County Farm Bureau, WCIU and Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Pasike of Middletown and Mary Louise Wagner of Oceanport, N.J.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Alice Virginia Young and Sara Jane Saffron.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Middletown United Methodist Church. The Rev. Susan Halse will officiate. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery, Middletown.
The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to services.
