Isabelle E. Mullenix
Isabelle Elliott Mullenix, 75, of 870 View St., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born April 25, 1923, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ellis Victor Elliott and Jennie Elizabeth Greenawalt Elliott Goodhart.
She attended Martinsburg High School and graduated from beauty school in Martinsburg.
She owned and operated Issy's Beauty Shop on Center Square in Greencastle until 1963.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Hagerstown.
She was a member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post 6319 Ladies Auxiliary of Greencastle; FOE 694 Ladies Auxiliary of Hagerstown; and Women of the Moose Chapter 738, Martinsburg, W.Va.
She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Mullenix; a daughter, Nancy A. Gain of Martinsburg; a son, Gregg T. Delauney of Hagerstown; a sister, Betty Lee Fisher of Greencastle; and a brother, Owen E. Elliott of Greencastle.
She was preceded in death by a brother, W. Robert Elliott, in 1982.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Raymond H. Shriver will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
There will be no public viewing; however, the family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Arthur B. Williams
BRUNSWICK, Md. - Arthur Bernard Williams, 71, of 111 9th Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
Born Aug. 3, 1927, in Arlington, Va., he was the son of the late Walter Bernard and Laura Beatty Williams.
He was a retired project accountant with Amtrak in Washington, D.C.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served during the Korean War.
He was a member of New York Hill United Methodist Church, Brunswick.
He was a member, one of the founders and first president of Brunswick Ambulance Co.; a member of Brunswick Lodge 191 AF&AM; Tall Cedars of Lebanon of Hagerstown; Steadman-Keenan Post 96 of American Legion at Brunswick; and a sformer councilman for the town of Brunswick.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Audrey Garrott Williams; two daughters, Cynthia Diane Sauter and Joan Gail Smith, both of Brunswick; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Williams and Ruth Lee Williams.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick. The Rev. Robert A. McCullough will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, Va.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, where Brunswick Lodge 191 AF&AM will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. The funeral home will be open today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Audrey L. Johns
Audrey Leota Johns, 84, of 1213 Kuhn Ave., Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born Jan. 24, 1914, in Bucyrus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Robert Carlton and Susan Mae Jones Shank.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher E. Johns, in 1992.
She attended Columbia Business College.
She owned Martin Manor Nursing Home on Virginia Avenue for 25 years.
She was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God.
She was a member of Maryland Nursing Association; BPW; Art Association; Halfway Senior Citizens; and AARP.
She is survived by one daughter, Audrey Joan Lane of Rehoboth Beach, Del.; two sons, Charles Herman Brown of Chambersburg, Pa., and David Lee Brown of Hagerstown; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Stephen Lane and the Rev. Noel L. Huffman will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Merle E. McCartney
Merle Eugene McCartney, 47, of 23 E. Washington St., died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born June 25, 1951, in Washington County, he was the son of Ira C. McCartney of Bentley Creek, Pa., and the late Gladys Weller McCartney Starliper.
He was employed by Lynn Taxi, and previously by Turner Cab Co. and Newell Enterprise.
He was a trustee and officer of the Owl's Club of Hagerstown and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 694.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Donna J. McCartney; one daughter, Heather M. Bayer of Williamsport; one stepdaughter, Amelia R. Sneed of Hagerstown; one son, Wayne E. Bare of Hagerstown; one stepson, William M. Williams of Hagerstown; five sisters, Patsy Swisher of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Debbie Landers of West Virginia, Elaine Atherton of Hagerstown, and Jennifer Clay and Wilma Hull, both of Hancock; four brothers, Clinton McCartney of Bentley Creek, Tuck Clarence McCartney of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Melvin Starliper and Richard Starliper, both of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Pamela Sue Starliper.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Bennett G. Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph S. Hollyday
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Joseph S. Hollyday, 77, of 52 Hemlock St., died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at Lawrence General Hospital.
He was born in Funkstown.
He graduated from Cornell University.
He was an electrical engineer for Rotron Inc. of Woodstock, N.Y.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Overlook United Methodist Church in Woodstock; and more recently, United Methodist Church in North Andover.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Alverson Hollyday; a daughter, Nancy Atkinson of Oakmont, Pa.; a son, Joseph Hollyday of Billerica, Mass.; a brother, Robert Hollyday of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Overlook United Methodist Church, 1 Manor Drive, Woodstock, N.Y. 12498.

Ruth O'Neill Hixon
WILLIAMSPORT - Ruth O'Neill Hixon, 79, of 340 S. Artizan St., died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Colton Villa Nursing Center, Hagerstown.
Born June 6, 1919, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late James and Ella Kirby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Lesley Hixon, in 1979.
She and her husband owned and operated Hixon's Grocery in Williamsport until the late 1970s.
She was of the Protestant faith.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by three sons, Charles L. Hixon Jr. of Plant City, Fla., John W. Hixon and Earl S. Hixon, both of Williamsport; five sisters, Alice Smith of Gainesville, Fla., Edna Hull of Peachland, S.C., Ethel Toms of Middletown, Pa., Mary Catherine Kirby of Hagerstown and Margaret Hutzell of Williamsport; two brothers, James Kirby of Hagerstown and Guy Kirby of Williamsport; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Lee Hixon; and three brothers, Jack Kirby, Richard Kirby and Ernest Kirby.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Albert L. Leaf Memorial Chapel at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport. The Rev. James E. Swecker will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open today after 9 a.m.
Tina M. Vinzant
Tina Marie Vinzant, 34, of 332 N. Locust St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at Washington County Hospital.
Born July 27, 1964, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Betty Mae Chaney Jordan of Hagerstown.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her stepfather, Donald L. Jordan of Hagerstown; two daughters, Tasha Lynn Vinzant and Crystal Nicole West, both at home; one son, John W. Weir, at home; one sister, Donna Ellen Wilson of Hagerstown; three brothers, Paul Grayson Jordan and Eugene Lee Jordan, both of Hagerstown, and Kenneth A. Jordan of Alabama; one aunt and one uncle; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Louis L. Emerick will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Robert F. Bowers Sr.
Robert Francis Bowers Sr., 73, of 610 Bentley Court, Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at his home.
Born June 26, 1925, in Kemps Mill, Md., he was the son of the late Ray Cleggett and Cora Belle Green Bowers.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years.
He retired from MCI, where he had been a food administrator 3 for 22 years.
He was a member of Pleasantville Church of God.
He was a member of American Legion Post 42; and Last Mans Club of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Rayetta M. Griffith Bowers; four daughters, Darlene Eichelberger of Boonsboro, Linda Haberkan of Baltimore, Ava Gift of Keedysville and Ginny Wagner of Boonsboro; three sons, Errol L. Griffith of Keedysville, Robert F. Bowers Jr. of Sharpsburg and Rickie C. Bowers of Hagerstown; one brother, Richard Bowers of Hagerstown; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Corsi; and 10 brothers, Leroy Bowers, Lester Bowers, Paul Bowers, Rust Bowers, Vic Bowers, Harmon Bowers, Albert Bowers, Press Bowers, Donnie Bowers and Ernie Bowers.
Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Clyde Ward and the Rev. Eugene Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, with graveside military services by American Legion Post 42.
