Presberry, Orlando

Orlando J. Presberry, Jr., age 95, went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 28,2001 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, MD.

He was born July 24, 1905 to the late Orlando Presberry and Martha Hunt Presberry. He was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Presberry, Sr., and a sister Mary Gamble.

Mr. Presberry is survived by his son Joseph W. Webster of Ft. Myers FL; two granddaughters, Christine Williams of Aberdeen, MD and Elizabeth Frasier of Harrison, TX; seven great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.

Services will be privately held at the convenience of the family.

Worthington, Charlotte Ella

Charlotte Ella Worthington, 74, of Elkton, MD, formerly of Chesapeake City, MD, died Sunday July 8, 2001 at Union Hospital in Elkton.

Mrs. Worthington, daughter of the late Herman & Ella Lincoln, was born on June 25, 1927 in Darby, PA. She was a homemaker and volunteered for Social Services from 1978 – 1988 in Elkton. She was a member of the Cecil County Arts Council, Cecil County Historical Society and a life member of the Elk River Yacht Club. She also enjoyed oil painting.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur William Worthington of Elkton, MD; a son, William Charles Worthington, Elkton, MD; a daughter, Betty Worthington Balder of Newark, DE; a brother Robert Charles Lincoln of Secane PA; five grandchildren and one great grandchildren.

Service will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Worthington Scholarship Fund of Cecil Community College c/o R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Adkins, Luther Melvin

Luther Melvin Adkins of Sudlersville, Maryland, died at home, Tuesday July 17, 2001.

He was 85.

Mr. Adkins was born April 8, 1916 in Woodside, Delaware, the son of the late Luther M. and Mattie Hoffecker Adkins.

Mr. Adkins received the Bronze Star in the United States Army and retired as a Captain after 22 years of service. He later worked as the Industrial Relations Manager for Playtex in Dover, Delaware, for 18 years before retiring in 1973.

He was a Class of 1933 graduate of Smyrna High School.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Katherine Elizabeth Everett Adkins;

2 sons, Charles Melvin Adkins at home and Robert James Adkins of Cupertino, California and a sister-in-law, Mary E. Baker of Green Brook, New Jersey; 2 grandchildren, Sara and Mark Adkins both of Reston, Virginia and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Adkins Wallis and a sister-in-law, Charlotte E. Robinson.

Graveside services will be Saturday July 21, 2001 at 11AM in Odd Fellows cemetery, DuPont Highway Smyrna, Delaware.

Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Downs Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Virginia Jones, 6703 Sudlersville Road Marydel MD 21649.

Gizzi, Mary

Mary Gizzi, 90, of Conowingo, MD, died Wednesday July 18, 2001 at home.

Mrs. Gizzi, daughter of the late John & Anna Pasika, was born on July 2, 1911 in New Boston, PA. She was a member of the Rising Sun Senior Citizens Group and member of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church in Rising Sun, MD.

She is survived by 4 children, Rose Ann Curren of Burkley, CA, Leo Gizzi of Conowingo, Ralph Gizzi of Conowingo, and Tom Gizzi of Felton, PA; 2 sisters, Helen Tulin of Mahanoy City, PA and Julia Slezewski of Frackville, PA; 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leo J. Gizzi who died in 1974.

Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday July 20, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Brookview cemetery in Rising Sun.

Leonard, Glenn E.

Glenn E. Leonard, of Cambridge, passed away on Tuesday July 17, 2001. He was 69. He was born in Cambridge on August 28, 1931 and was the son of Charles C. and Rose Cannon Leonard.

He had attended schools in Cambridge, having graduated from Cambridge High School in 1948. Some years ago he had worked as a Deputy Sheriff for the Dorchester Co. Sheriff’s Office. He had later worked as News Director at WCEM in Cambridge. He had also worked as a property manager at several locations until he retired. He had served as a sergeant in Co. K. 115th Infantry, MD Army National Guard. Through the years Glenn had held memberships in the Elks, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler, Moose, VFW, American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He had been in failing health for several years, and had been a patient at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for one week when he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.

He is survived by two daughters, Eva Michele Leonard and Robyn Marie Leonard, both of Cambridge, a special friend, Bonnie Sue Wilson and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn L. Slacum, Edith L. Bratten and Pauline L. Weber and two brothers, Ralph C. Leonard and C. Arnold Leonard.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with the Rev. Dale L. Vroman officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, C/O Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, Maryland 21613.

Wahl, Walter Herbert

Mr. Walter Herbert "Pat" Wahl, 76, of Walkersville died on Sunday, July 15 at Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Shamokin, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Mary G. Buza Wahl, his wife of 14 years.

Born on September 18, 1924, in Myersdale, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Olive Geiger Wahl. Mr. Wahl was a Maryland State Police Trooper for 30 years. He retired in 1975, with the rank of Captain serving as a Regional Commander in the Metropolitan DC Area. Mr. Wahl was a member of the Maryland Troopers Association as well as the Frederick area Elks, Moose and American Legion. He also served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Wahl was a member St. Timothy Catholic Church in Walkersville. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Timber Pines Country Club in Spring Hill, FL located on the gulf coast.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 children; twins: Patrick Wahl and wife Thomasina of Ijamsville and Patricia Phillips and husband Samuel of Waynesboro, VA and Michael Wahl and wife Marilyn of Williamsburg, VA; 3 step-children; Kitty Buza Hyssong and husband John of Frederick, Jane Menker and husband David of Ellicott City and Nancy Herbert and husband Michael of Cordelia, CA; 13 grandchildren; 2 brothers; Myrel Wahl and wife Rita of Myersdale, PA and Calvin Wahl of Electra, TX; 2 sisters; Clara Bittner and husband Vernon and Marie Klink all of Myersdale, PA. Mr. Wahl was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother, Harvey Wahl.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, July 18, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 19, at St. Timothy Catholic Church, 8651 Biggs Ford Road, Walkersville with the Rev. Richard J, Murphy as Celebrant.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

Vigue, Daniel Roland

Mr. Daniel Roland Vigue, 56, of Mt. Airy died on Monday, July 16, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary M. Lantz Vigue his wife of 29 years.

Born on October 18, 1944 in Waterville, Maine he was the son of the late Philip J. and Juliet Pomerleau Vigue, Sr. Mr. Vigue was the Director of Facilities for Human Genome Sciences located in Rockville for the past 9 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church at Poplar Springs in Mt. Airy. Mr. Vigue was an avid golfer, enjoyed woodworking and was a long time sponsor MAYAA baseball, sponsoring teams for more than 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Gold Star, Post 191 in Mt. Airy.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three children; Debra Sue Eggleston and husband Mike of Mt. Airy, Donald Charles Barnes and wife Laurie of Adamstown and Rebecca Lantz Vigue of Mt. Airy ; five grandchildren; Kristina Eggleston, Amanda Barnes, Erica Eggleston, Allison Eggleston and Kathleen Barnes; five brothers and sisters; Philip J. Vigue, Jr. and wife Carole of Albion, ME, Sylvia Lee and husband Douglas of New Milford, CT, Cynthia Fadel and husband George of Port Orange, FL, Linda Cresi of Danbury, CT and Sandy Patterson and husband Dale of Winslow, ME; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Wednesday, July 18, and from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, July 19, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Members of Gold Star, Post 191 will conduct the American Legion Memorial Service on Thursday evening beginning at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 20, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 1125 St. Michael's Road, Mt. Airy.

Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery, Mt. Airy.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, Frederick, MD 21701 or to the American Cancer Society, 1393 Progress Way, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Riggins, Elizabeth C.

Elizabeth C. Riggins, 85, of Taylors Island, passed away on Wednesday morning, July 18, 2001 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was the wife of Busie H. Riggins.

She was born at Fishing Creek on May 15, 1916, the daughter of the late George Earl and Margie McGlaughlin Creighton. She was raised and attended public schools in Dorchester County and was married to Mr. Riggins on April 6, 1940. The Riggins’ made their home on Smithville Road until 1953 and since then have resided at Taylors Island. Mrs. Riggins was a member of the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Co. Auxiliary. Mrs. Riggins has resided at the Mallard Bay Care Center since September and had been hospitalized for the past week.

She is survived by her husband, one son Roy H. Riggins of Taylors Island, two grandchildren, Holli A. Riggins of Taylors Island and Allen H. Riggins of Salisbury, and one brother John M. “Jack” Creighton of Church Creek. A brother G. Earl Creighton, Jr. is deceased.

A graveside service will be conducted at East New Market cemetery on Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock by Rev. A. Delmer Willey . Pall bearers will be Bobby Brooks, Jack Samakow, Charles Wright, Ken Smith, Rodger Anderson, and Ed Ngosek.

Memorials may be made to either the Taylors Island Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 277, Taylors Island, MD 21699 or the Taylors Island United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Louise Creighton, P.O. Box 95, Church Creek MD 21622.

Stump, John Luther

John Luther (Bill) Stump died July 13, 2001 at Harford Memorial Hospital following a short illness. Born August 24, 1925 in Darlington, Maryland, he was 75 years old. John was the son of the late Roland H. and Irene Presberry Stump and the husband of Courtney Henrietta Brooks Stump.

John attended (the now historic) Hosanna School in Darlington, Maryland. At an early age, he became affiliated with the Hosanna A.M.E. Church of that area. After graduation, he served four years with the military in the United States Navy. Mr. Stump worked for 31 years with the Civil Service United States Government; retiring from Aberdeen Proving Ground in January 1986.

Mr. Stump transferred his church membership to Clark’s United Methodist Church under the pastoral ship of Reverend Will Butler and became a dedicated member of the United Methodist “Men’s Choir” which was the highlight of his life. In his retirement, he enjoyed working on lawn mowers and small engines. By being the cheapest guy who took great pride in his work with never a recall, in order to accommodate everyone, he scheduled his work by appointment only.

Besides his wife, two sons survive Mr. Stump, James M. of N. Potomac, MD and Luther H. of Abingdon, MD; two daughters-in-law, Becky Stump and Sandra Stump and most respected former daughter-in-law Debbie Stump; 4 grandchildren Margo Lowe, Ron and Angie Stump, Kim and Allan Futrell and Beth Morris, also a mystery great grandchild expected in the near future. Two brothers also survive Mr. Stump, Frederick Stump, Sr. of Bel Air, MD, and Franklin Stump of Dallas, TX; two sisters Beatrice Webster of Street, MD and Anita Holland of Hampton, VA; 4 brothers -in-law and 7 sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews and many many friends. Besides his parents, Mr. Stump was preceded in death by his brother Harold Stump and sister, Ester Stump Thompson.

Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday July 18, 2001 at Clarks United Methodist Church, 2001 Kalmia Road, Bel Air MD where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Clarks United Methodist cemetery, Bel Air, MD.
