Vivian D. Conklin

Vivian Douglas Conklin, 88, of Hagerstown, died Monday, July 3, 2006, at Ravenwood Lutheran Village.

Born Aug. 31, 1917, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James B. and Bessie Tevalt Hovermale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Conklin. She worked as a bookkeeper with Montgomery Ward Co. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy C. Kendricks of Maugansville and Sandra L. Becker of Hagerstown; two sisters, Evelyn M. Larsen of Kirkland, N.Y., and Betty L. Caldwell of Leola, Ark.; one brother, Robert B. Hovermale of Hagerstown; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis J. Procci and Helen V. Noland; and two brothers, Noble H. Hovermale and J. Dayton Hovermale.

Graveside services will be at Rest Haven cemetery at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Western Maryland, 5 Public Square, Suite 307, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown.

Sylvia H. Logan

Sylvia Helm Logan, 65, of Suwanee, died Friday, July 7, 2006, at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga.
Born Sept. 25, 1940, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Flora Yeager Helm. Her husband, Norman LeRoy Logan, died in 1997. She was a homemaker. She was of Lutheran faith. She is survived by one daughter, Christina Foster of Suwanee; one son, Todd L. Logan of Milwaukee; one brother, Charles Helm Jr. of Baltimore; four grandsons; one niece; and two nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Pastor Stephen D. Robison will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Ave., Duluth, GA 30096.

Allison G. Maye

Allison "Al" G. Maye, 84, of Hagerstown, died Monday, July 10, 2006, at his home.

Born June 16, 1922, in Bentonville, Va., he was the son of the late Walter Eugene and Ada Irene Lawson Maye. He retired in 1987 with 40 years of service as a pilot with Fairchild Aircraft. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Hagerstown, and Fountain Head Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorcas M. Tabler Maye; three daughters, Kathryn Lawson of Torrance, Calif., Jacqueline Maye of Mesa, Ariz., and Susan Maye of Richmond, Va.; one sister, Mildred M. Guerin of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth Maye; one sister, Lou E. Wolfinger; and three brothers, Maynard Maye, Hollis Maye and Paige Maye.

Graveside services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Margaret S. Nixon

Margaret Suzanne (Troutman) Nixon, 95, of Hagerstown, formerly of Cumberland, died, Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Washington County Hospital.

Born, September 4, 1910 in Cumberland she was the daughter of the late William Harry and Lydia Ann (Neat) Troutman. Mrs. Nixon was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Cumberland. She was a graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College with a Masters Degree in Education.
She taught for 23 years at the North Potomac Street Middle School, Hagerstown.
She also had worked for the Celanease Fibers Corporation.
She is survived by one daughter, June M. Crippen of Hagerstown; three granddaughters, twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Nixon and her sister, Marie Starkey.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown on Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 11:00 A.M..
Interment will follow in Greenmount cemetery, Cumberland.

Howard O. Scharas

Howard O. Scharas, 87, of Williamsport, died Thursday, July 27, 2006, at Homewood Retirement Center.

Born Feb. 28, 1919, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Louis I. Scharas. He was employed as a sales representative. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Constance Scharas; and two nephews.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven cemetery, Hagerstown. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 415 N. Charles St., Baltimore, MD 21201.

Mildred L. Snowberger

Mildred Lucille Jones Crawford Snowberger, 87, of Waynesboro, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 5, 1919, in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Helen Ford Jones. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Edward Crawford Sr. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. She is survived by her husband, Floyd E. Snowberger of Waynesboro; two daughters, Joan L. Sines of Hagerstown and Blanche McGory of North Wales, Pa.; two sons, Gerald W. Crawford of Hagerstown and Philip W. Crawford of Kissimmee, Fla.; 21 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Kline and Margaret Swain; one son, John E. Crawford Jr.; one brother, Donald Jones; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark C. Mooney will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Anthony L. Fedele

Anthony Leo Fedele, 79, of Vero Beach, Fla., and formerly of Smithsburg, Md., passed away Monday, July 31, 2006, at Washington County Hospital.

Born May 16, 1927, in Plainfield, N.J., he was the son of the late Gerardo and Filomena Elario Fedele. Mr. Fedele was Catholic by faith. He had worked for Mack Trucks and then was an International Union Representative for the United Auto Workers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ethel Dorothy Burke Fedele; two daughters, Diana Lynn McCauley of Greencastle, Pa., and Nancy Fedele Smith of Smithsburg; three sisters, Frances Sawyer of Whiting, N.J., Rose DeCullo of Scotch Plains, N.J., and Alice Fania of Seaside Heights, N.J.; one brother, Joseph Fedele of Vero Beach; and four grandchildren, Erin E. Long of Alexandria, Va., Shannon N. Long of Thurmont, Md., Jennifer B. McCauley of Chambersburg, Pa., and S. Anthony E. Smith of Smithsburg. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by one sister, Lenia Fania; and one brother, Casmer Fedele.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown on Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. James Nirappel will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland State Veterans Honor Guard. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Western Maryland Hospital Auxiliary, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Agnes V. Manley

Agnes Virginia Manley, 86, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2006, at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro.

Born Aug. 13, 1919, in Grayson County, Va., she was the daughter of the late John William and Mallie Elizabeth Vaughan Funk. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. She is survived by her husband, Clarence E. "Jeff" Manley; one daughter, Joanne Showe; one son, Robert E. Manley; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one niece, all of Hagerstown. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Lorraine Norman, Ella Jenkins, Eva Bonebrake, Edith Rhudy and Ethel Roberts; and three brothers, Rena Funk, Dewey Funk and Onnie Funk.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel in Hagerstown. Chaplain Regina Beard will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to Reeders Memorial Home, 141 S. Main St., Boonsboro, MD 21713 or Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Harold E. Winn

Harold Elkin Winn, 86, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2006, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 6, 1920, in Henrietta, Mo., he was the son of the late Raymond Rollins and Florence Aumiller Winn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara E. Thomas Winn. He retired from the railroad in Missouri, and was owner and operator of Hagerstown Water Conditioning. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Funkstown American Legion Post 211. He is survived by two daughters, F. Gail Petry of Hagerstown and Linda L. Wennick of Boonsboro; two sons, Tim G. Winn of Greencastle, Pa., and Larry L. Winn of Detroit; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil L. Winn.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Joseph Pickens will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery, with military honors by the Maryland State Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Commission on Aging, 9 Public Square, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Betty L. Barger

Betty Louise Walls Barger, 73, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at her home.

Born April 27, 1933, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Alston and Bonita Emily Colbert Walls. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her companion of 17 years, Sonny Barnes; two daughters, Janie Harbaugh of Frederick, Md., and Dixie Ashby of Hagerstown; two sons, William G. Walls Sr. of Fairfield, Pa., and Frank Scott of Hagerstown; two sisters, Wilma Smith of Boonsboro and Margaret Sheppard of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Knode; one brother, William J. Walls; and one grandson.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. Chaplain Beth Johns will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery in Hagerstown. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 1500 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Yvonne L. Fritz

Yvonne "Bonnie" Louise Lartz Fritz, 66, of Hagerstown, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md.

Born Aug. 25, 1939, in Gary, Ind., she was the daughter of Bernice Clara Freudenthal Lartz of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the late Arthur Henry Lartz. She retired as an executive secretary with Garden State Tanning Inc. of Williamsport. She was a Presbyterian. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Charles Eugene Fritz; one son, Steven Broten of St. Petersburg; and one brother, Robert Lartz of St. Petersburg.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. Mark C. Mooney will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Road, Maugansville, MD 21740.

Martha A. Talbert

Martha "Marnie" Anna Priscilla (Smith) Talbert, 97, of Hagerstown, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, at Coffman Nursing Home.

Born Dec. 12, 1908, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Alice Hollingsworth Smith. Her husband, Robert Joyce Talbert Sr., died in 1983. She was a 1926 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She worked as an administrative assistant for a factory representative with M.P. Moller Inc. She was a member of First Christian Church of Hagerstown. She is survived by three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert J. Talbert Jr.; one sister, Edna Downy; and one brother, Charles H. Smith.

Services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown. The Rev. G. David Shreeves will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1037 Haven Road, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

Anna R. Ebersole

Anna Ruth Ebersole, 79, of 116 Summer St., Hagerstown, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at University Speciality Hospital, Baltimore.

Born Jan. 11, 1927, in Big Pool, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Sallie B. Reed Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence R. Ebersole Sr. She retired from Fairchild Aircraft. She was a Protestant. She was a member of Williamsport American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by one daughter, Sheila A. Kinzer of Hagerstown; one son, Lawrence R. Ebersole Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va.; two sisters, Helen Randall of Hagerstown and Mary Grove of Clear Spring; two brothers, Franklin D. Mills of Pectonville, Md., and R.L. Mills of Clear Spring. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Reed, Nellie Reed and June Ridenour; five brothers, Charles D. Mills, Carl D. Mills, Melvin Mills, Homer Mills and Earl W. Mills.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Park Head cemetery, Big Pool. The Rev. Dale Cosden will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Western Maryland, 5 Public Square, Hagerstown, MD 21740. Arrangements are by Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown.

George F. Dunham

George Frederick Dunham, 91, passed on peacefully in his sleep at his home near Downsville, Monday, Aug. 14, 2006.

He was born Dec. 8, 1914, in McKeesport, Pa. He was the son of the late George Frederick and Virginia Hull Dunham. Mr. Dunham's paternal grandparents were manufacturers of Dunham Farm Equipment in McKeesport some years ago. He attended Clear Spring High School. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Dunham was an engineer on the Western Maryland Railroad, retiring in 1974 after 30 years. Mr. Dunham also owned and operated a farm along Downsville Pike, raising grain and cattle. He and his wife, Genevieve, built and operated Clearview Nursing Home, which opened in 1964. Mr. Dunham retired from farming in 2001. He is survived by four grandchildren, George Frederick III, Bernard, Maria and Raymond; five great-grandchildren; two foster sons, James and Ronald Jones; and close family friends, Willa Jean Vaters, Michael Vaters, his wife, Denise, and son, Michael Vaters Jr., also Donald Beaver and David Rhinecker. Mr. Dunham was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Irene (Malott) Dunham; son, George Dunham Jr.; and granddaughter, Toni Dunham Famous.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Pastor Robert V. Robinson will officiate; entombment will follow in Rest Haven cemetery. A reception in honor of Mr. Dunham will be held at Rest Haven following the service. Friends will be received Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Medairy Lodge 140 AF & AM of Williamsport. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Temple Church Inc., 147 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, MD 21795.
