Paul Hatherne Adler 90, of Reisterstown, MD
1930 - 2004

Paul Hatherne Adler, 90, died Tuesday April 27, 2004 at Chapel Hill Nursing Home.

He was the spouse of 42 years of the late Ellen R. Merkle Adler.

Born November 27, 1913 in Providence RI, he was the son of the late Walter and Viola Parent Adler.

Mr. Adler worked as an electronics service manager for Sears Roebucks at their Baltimore Central Service office for 26 years. Served in United States Army during WWII Assigned to the 7th Army, 100th Division, 800th Ordinance Company. Mr. Adler saw action in the European Theater of Operations.

He was a member of Granite Presbyterian Church.

Surviving him are sister-in-law Shirley Merkle of Woodstock, Brother-in-law Nelson Mathews. Nieces: Bonnie Hart of Bath Maine, Karen Merkle of Westminster, MD, Joyce Peugh of Woodstock, MD, Marcia Young of Hampstead, MD Nephews: Arthur D. (Woody) Merkle of Woodstock and Craig B. Merkle of Baltimore.

Also Survived by 13 great nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by Sisters: Helen Buzzell and Ruby Collins.

Funeral Services will take place Saturday May 1, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Granite Presbyterian church, 10637 Old Court Rd. Woodstock, MD 21163 with the Rev. Jan Trammell-Savin of Granite Presbyterian Church in Granite officiating.

Interment will be in Granite Presbyterian Church cemetery, Granite, MD

Friends may call Friday 3-5 and 7-9 PM at BURRIER-QUEEN FUNERAL HOME, 1212 West Old Liberty Rd. Winfield, MD 21784

John L. Dickerson 88, of Woodbine, MD
1916 - 2004

Died Tuesday April 27, 2004 at Continuum Care, Sykesville, MD

He was the spouse of Natalie Virginia Hawkins Dickerson. He was born March 10, 1916 in Goodview, VA the son of the late John Paul and Helen McFiggan Dickerson.

Mr. Dickerson was a scheduler for CSX railways.

Also Survived by daughter: Emily Solomon of Woodbine.

Grand daughter: Sarah Bassett and her husband Nathaniel of Woodbine.

Great-Grandsons: Alex, Scott and Steve Bassett.

Ada Margaret Lynn MacBurney 94, formerly of Daytona, FL and Uniontown, PA
1909 - 2004

Died Friday April 30, 2004 at Senior Constant Care in Sykesville, MD.

She was spouse of the late Wilbur S. MacBurney.

She was born August 8, 1909 in Fayette County Pennsylvania, the youngest of five children to Clarence and Henderson Lynn. She graduated from Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing in 1929 and spent close to 35 years doing private duty nursing in Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Daytona Beach. She belonged to the Uniontown, PA No. 263 Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Lynne and Burt Over of Sykesville, Granddaughter: Cathy and husband John Boteler of Laurel, MD Grandson David Over, Sr. 4 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by brother: Henderson Lynn, Sisters: Wilda McFarland, Betty Sangston and Georgia Frankhouser.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday May 3rd 2004 at 7:30 PM with Rev. Walter Peters of First Presbyterian Church of Westminster officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday at the funeral home from 7:00 PM until the time of service.

James Holcomb Mulholland 84, of Florida formerly of Randallstown, MD
1921 - 2003

Reverend James Holcomb Mulholland died Thursday May 6, 2004.

He was born on January 31, 1920 in Elizabeth, New Jersey the son of the late James B. and Frances T. Holcomb Mulholland.

He attended Columbia Bible College in Georgia and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Theology from Texas Christian University. He continued his education and life-long devotion to God by earning his Masters Degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in Georgia, and was bestowed with an honorary doctorate degree in theology from Columbia International Seminary.

Mr. Mulholland was ordained a Presbyterian Minister in 1949 and the first church in which he served was in Mississippi. He continued his service to our Lord as a missionary pastor to the Metlakatla Presbyterian Church in Alaska for four years and Williamston New York Presbyterian Church until he was then called to First Presbyterian Church in Randallstown, MD, where he served for twenty-seven years. His legacy lives on for the two congregations that gather in that very building and the stained glass windows in which he designed for the church still remain for the members to enjoy and be inspired by. Jim retired to Florida in 1985 and became the visitation pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton for six years and most recently was the visitation minister at Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton, FL.

He is predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Jean Mulholland. Surviving are wife: Betty of Ellenton, FL. Daughters: Terry Ridgely and Sharon Mulholland; 10 grandchildren: Rachel Kopec of New Market, Julie, Ross, Bryan, Jenna, Amy, Nicole, Ryan, Tirza and Heather. Seven Great-grandchildren Nathan, Joshua, David, Luke, Maya, Tia and Olivia.

Graveside service will take place of Saturday May 15, 2004 at 10 Am in Wards Chapel UM Church cemetery, Randallstown, MD

Bernard Joseph Kuhn, Jr. 19, of Mt. Airy, MD
1984 - 2004

Died Friday May 7, 2004 at home after fighting a courageous 9-month battle of Cancer.

He was born August 11, 1984 in Baltimore, MD the son of Mary Lynn Myers-Kuhn and the late Bernard Joseph Kuhn, Sr.

Mr. Kuhn had completed his freshman year at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA majoring in Engineering. He was a 2002 Graduate of Linganore High School where he was a member of the Marching Band and Played the trumpet. He was a member of the National Honor Society. He preformed with Linganore High School’s band in Walt Disney World on Easter of 2002 and also travel with the band on a Caribbean Band Cruise in spring of 2000. Played baseball for MAYA, Basketball for 4 counties Worked for Ken Lee at Mt. Airy Pharmacy and more recently worked at the Tractor Supply Company in Mt. Airy. He was a member of the Simpson Gardening Crew. Was a very kind person whom loved Animals and enjoyed tinkering with his 78 Bronco dirt bikes his dodge truck and John Deere Tractors. Bernie had a long Scouting Career from Tiger Cubs and Cub Scouts with Pack 460 to Boy Scouts with troop 460. He participated in 2 BSA High Adventure experiences at Philmont Scout Rank in New Mexico and the Eli Sommers Canoe Base in Minnesota. Mr. Kuhn earned his Coveted Eagle Scout award in Aug of 2002 after completing a Butterfly Garden in Wildwood Park, Mt. Airy He also received the Arrow of Light award in 1995.

Also Survived my numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Memorial Services will take place on Sunday May 23, 2004 3:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 Main St. Mt. Airy 21771

Those desiring may make contributions to: the Bernard J. Kuhn, Jr. Foundation, at 502 Prospect Rd. Mt. Airy, MD 21771. All money raised will be used to fund Cancer Research in young adults 19 to 25.

Charles Evert Farmer 38, of Georgetown, DE
1965 - 2004

Charles (Chuck) Evert Farmer, age 38, of Georgetown, DE, formerly of Catonsville, MD, died Monday May 10, 2004 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.

He was born November 3, 1965 in Baltimore, MD the son of George James Farmer, Jr. and Ruth N. (nee Trott) Farmer of Hernwood, MD.

He was an Elevator Mechanic for Elevator Engineering in Baltimore, MD

He was and Elder in the Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the Southern Delaware Street Rod Association.

He was the husband of Cindy Farmer (nee Dubow).

Dear brother of George J. and Ava M. Farmer, III of Ellicott City and Kevin L. Farmer of Long Neck, Delaware.

Also survived by nieces Athena M. Farmer and Abigail L. Fitzwater and nephews Kenneth S. and George J. Farmer IV.

Alan Clifton Owens of Woodbine, MD died Tuesday May 11, 2004 at Northwest Hospital Center

He was the spouse of the late Mary Loretta Spicer Owens

He was born May 5, 1920 in Annapolis Junction and spent most of his early life in Elkridge and moved to Woodbine after serving in the Navy during WWII

He was the son of the late Robert and Annie Patterson Owens.

Mr. Owens was a member of Westminster VFW Post 467 and American Legion Gold star Post 191, Mt. Airy, MD

Mr. Owens enjoyed raising beef cows and growing tomato plants and loved life. He had a warm and loving personality and gathered many friends along the way and was well respected by his neighbors and all that knew him..

Surviving are his Son: Bill Owens of Woodbine, Son and daughter in-law Jeff and Carol Owens of Effort, PA, Daughter and son-in-law Susan and Steven Leatherwood of Woodbine, Daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Michael Wright of Sykesville..

Brothers: Richard Owens of Florida and Phillip Owens of Elkridge

6 Grandchildren, 4 Great-grandchildren preceded in death by brothers Jack, Robert and Norris Owens and sister Margaret Gaither.

1992 - 2004

Evan Thomas Moffitt, age 12, of Taylorsville, died Sunday May 16, 2004 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.

He was born February 11, 1992 in Gettysburg, PA, the loving son of Bill and Jamie Moffitt.

He was an Honor student at New Windsor Middle School; He played the drums in the school band; He was an Honor Student at Winfield Elementary School; He was a member of Manchester Baptist Church; He was a 5-year member of the Cub Scouts Pack#733; He played soccer and baseball for Winfield Recreation. He enjoyed roller-skating at the Magic Elm in Hanover, He loved to go to the beach, and he just learned how to snow Board. And he loved the Drag races.

Loving Grandson of Floyd and Joan Strock of McSherrystown, PA and Bill and Sue Moffitt of Westminster.

Dear nephew of Vicky and Don Patton of Taylorsville, Sam and Lisa Thoman of Hanover, PA, Sandy Orendorff and Kelly Strock both of McSherrystown, PA and Drake Strock of Austin, TX.

Nancy L. Kane (nee Rote), age 72, of Winfield, Died Thursday May 20, 2004 at her home.

She was born May 13, 1932 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Malcolm Edward Rote and the late Charlotte Evelyn Rote (nee Lego).

She attended Milford Mill High School in Rockdale, MD. She was a homemaker and Artist who enjoyed doing craft shows across the Middle Atlantic States.

She was the wife of Dennis M. Kane.

Predeceased by parents Malcolm E. and Charlotte E. Rote and beloved grandfather Clarence R. Rote.

Survived by husband Dennis M. Kane and children Linda Lee Dayhoff and Husband Scott B., Denise Lee Vizzini and husband S. Jeffrey, Laura Lee Logue and husband Douglas K., and Dennis Brandon Kane and wife Cheryl L.. Grandchildren Bryan Derrickson and wife Brandy, Evan Dayhoff; Lea and Eric Vizzini; Kellee and husband Marlo, Douglas and Cameron Logue; and Natalie and Garrett Kane.

One great grandchild, Taylor Paige Derrickson. Brother Malcolm R. Rote and wife Audrey, sister-in-law Patricia A. Graham and husband Donald and 7 nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service will be held at Ebenezer U.M. Church, 4911 Woodbine Road, Woodbine on Sunday May 23, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. O.F. “Bud” Kibbe officiating.

Private Interment.
