Mary Elizabeth Aschenbeck, 84, of Leonardtown, Maryland, died on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center.
Born August 25, 1916 in Beverly, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late William W. and Margaret Gallagher Laws.
She was the wife of the late Gaylord Perry "Tex" Aschenbeck whom she married September 20, 1946 in Brownfield, Texas, he preceded her in death March 24, 1997.Also predeceased by two brothers William and John Laws.Mrs. Aschenbeck moved to St. Mary’s County in 1946, she was a Post Mistress at the Park Hall Post Office.
Family and friends will be received today, Wednesday, February 7, 2001 from 10; 00 a.m. to 11; 00 a.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD where a service will be held at 11; 00 a.m. with Chaplain Joseph Dobson officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Episcopal Church cemetery, St. Mary’s City, MD.

Regina Barbara Heinze
Regina Barbara Heinze, 47, of Lexington Park, Maryland, died on January 24, 2001 at Washington Hospital Center.Born on February 10, 1953 in Berlin, Germany she was the daughter of the late Karl Friedrich Willi and Irma Anna Marie Schidzick Heinze. Ms. Heinze moved to St. Mary’s County from Georgia in 1976. She was a waitress at Rosies Restaurant. She enjoyed sewing and decorating.Ms. Heinze is survived by 4 brothers, Horst, Detlef, Artur and Wolfgang Schidzick all of Germany and dear friends Tanya Rosado, of Lexington Park, MD, Michael Irvine, of Radford, VA, Rose and Tex Turner of Lexington Park, MD and co-workers form Rosies.Services were private. Arrangements were by Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.

Robert Harold Blaney
Robert Harold Blaney, 76, of Lusby, Maryland, died on Friday, February 2, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.Born January 31, 1925 in Kankakee, Illinois the son of the late Edward Edes and Mary Helen Bolerjack Blaney.His wife Jean Elaine Hand Blaney of Lusby, Maryland whom he married on November 15, 1945 in Juliet, Illinois, also survived by one daughter Janetta Dobson of Lusby, Maryland and two grandchildren, survives Mr. Blaney. He was predeceased by a sister Eileen Pistilli.Mr. Blaney moved to Calvert County 7 years ago he was an Electrical Engineer for Maritime Dynamics, he was a trustee of SAYSF Bible Church in Lexington ParkFamily and friends will be received on Sunday, February 4, 2001 from 2; 00 p.m. to 4; 30 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2001 at 12; 00 p.m. in The SAYSF Bible Church 16544 Rue Purchase Road, Lexington Park, MD with Pastor Rodney Spade officiating. Richard Travis Likes, 64 of Lexington Park, Maryland, died on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at his residence. Born on September 21, 1936 in Douglas, Arizona, he was the son of the late Harry Phil Likes, Jr. and Fern Anne Sanders Likes Walker of San Jose, California. Mr. Likes moved from Misawa Japan Air Force Base and has lived in this area for two years. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1980 after serving for twenty-seven years.In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lourdes Catap Likes, whom he married on December 24, 1986 in Angeles City, Philippines. Three sons, Richard Cody Likes of Dudley, Massachusetts, Daniel Ward Likes of Loveland, Colorado, Travis Edwin Likes of Raleigh, North Carolina, a daughter, Brandy Dawn Likes of Beaverton, Oregon, two sisters, Dee Bowington of El Paso, Texas, Phyllis Ann Williams of San Jose, California, and three grandchildren.A Memorial Mass will be conducted on Sunday, February 4, 2001 at 1; 00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 22375 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, Maryland 20653. Reverend Thomas Gude will be the celebrant. Interment will be private.

Brooklyn Marie Cusic
Brooklyn Marie Cusic, twin infant of James Kenneth and Kelly Marie Couch Cusic of Mechanicsville, died on Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Civista Medical Center in LaPlata, Maryland.In addition to her parents, she is also survived by twin sister, Destiny Marie Cusic and older sister, Angelica Marie Cusic, both of Mechanicsville, Maryland, maternal grandparents, Janice and Jerry Couch of Washington, DC, paternal grandparents, Mary Catherine and Charles Cusic, also of Mechanicsville.A Graveside will be conducted today, Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at 2; 00 p.m. at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, Maryland.Arrangements provided by BRINSFIELD FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650.

Lucie Ann Dunbar Abell
Lucie Ann Dunbar Abell, 88, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, died on Sunday, January 28, 2001 at her residence.Born December 20, 1912 in Dameron, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Paul Waldron and Lucy May Beale Dunbar.She is survived by J. Frank Abell of Mechanicsville, MD, four daughters, Lois Ann Abell Fowler of Hughesville, MD, Diane Dunbar Abell Delahay, of Leonardtown, MD, Sara Ann Abell Brown of Roseville, CA and Faye Cecilia Abell Reid of Waldorf, MD., one sister Marion May Dunbar Sterling of Compton, MD, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Edna Dunbar and two brothers Alexander Beale Dunbar and Paul Waldron Dunbar, Jr.Mrs. Abell was a life long resident of St. Mary’s County. She lived in Mechanicsville for 60 years moving from the 1st District and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Garden Club, Antique Arts Association, St. Mary’s County Retarded Association and the Catholic Daughters.Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 from 4; 00 p.m. to 8; 00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD, with prayers recited at 8; 00 p.m.. Grace Lola MacEwen Hawes
Grace Lola MacEwen Hawes, 87, of Leonardtown, Maryland, died on Sunday, January 28, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital, in Leonardtown, Maryland.Born January 21, 2001 in Glyndon, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Walter Dyer and Grace Mildred Eppley MacEwen.Mrs. Hawes was the wife of William E. Hawes of Leonardtown, MD, whom she married August 18, 1935 in Bethesda, MD, beloved mother of Celia Hawes Taylor of Leonardtown, MD. Marc Hawes of Helen, MD. survived by one brother Walter D. MacEwen of Owings Mills, MD she was preceded in death by a daughter Patrice Hawes Walton two sisters, Roma Cate, Helen Custer and one brother, Lloyd MacEwen, also survived by eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hawes moved to St. Mary’s County 33 years ago from Landover, MD, formerly employed with the Department of the Treasury as an Assistant Secretary and Peoples Drug Stores. She was active in volunteer and civic associations throughout her life. Mrs. Hawes had a life long love of art, she volunteered at P.G. Hospital teaching patients art she also volunteered for the Boy Scouts, she enjoyed art teaching, dancing, music and gardening, treasured by all who knew her.
Family and friends will be received Wednesday, January 31, 2001 from 9; 30 am to 11; 30 am at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD with a Funeral Service Held at 11; 30 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend Samuel C. Walker, Sr. of Christ Episcopal Church will officiate. Interment will be private. In Lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Christ Episcopal Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 8, Chaptico, MD 20621.

James Ernest Wathen, Sr.
James Ernest Wathen, Sr., 92, of Ridge, MD died on February 5, 2001 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center.
Born January 15, 1909 in Chaptico, MD he was the son of the late William Ernest and Rose Etta Pilkerton Wathen. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Helen Gray Wathen. Louis Edward Comeau, Sr., 68, of Bryans Road, MD died on February 4, 2001 at his home.
Born April 14, 1932 in Flushing, NY he was the son of the late Louis Leo and Ema Doucette Comeau. He was the loving husband of Laura Ann VanWart Comeau.

Joseph Eugene Johnson, 49, of Hollywood, MD died on February 3, 2001 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Born December 9, 1951 in Washington, DC he was the son of Betty A. Johnson of Hollywood, MD and the late Ronald L. Johnson. He was the brother of Linda Gardiner of Great Mills, MD, Jamie Johnson of Hollywood, MD, and Cheryl Mercado of North Carolina. He was the nephew of Clara and Bob Murphy of California, Audry and Paul Patterson of Virginia and Bev Lubin of Hollywood, MD. He is also survived by five nephews, one niece, two great nephews and two great nieces. Mr. Johnson moved to St. Mary’s County in 1969 from Prince George County. He was a custodian at the Pax River Medical Clinic for 27 1/2 years. Born November 19, 1923, she was the daughter of John William Hall and Gladys Mae Cheseldine. She was the loving wife of Mearland Joseph Rusaw, Sr.

Dorothy S. "Dot" Sminkey, 67, of Leonardtown, MD formerly of Somerdale, NJ died on January 29, 2001 in St. Mary’s Hospital. Mrs. Sminkey was born on May 6, 1933 in Atco, NJ. She was the loving wife of Robert Loys Sminkey whom she married on November 18, 1950 in Laurel Springs, NJ. She was the devoted mother of Robert L. Sminkey of Summerville, SC and Sue Drew of Beverly, MA. She was the sister of Donna Shannon of Erial, NJ, Charles Goodman of Orlando, FL, John Goodman, Joseph Goodman both of Little Rock, AR, James Goodman of Depford, NJ and Mary Hunger of Blenheim, NJ. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jonathan and Kimberly Drew. Mrs. Sminkey moved to St. Mary’s County in 1990. She was a homemaker and a genealogist. Mrs. Sminkey was a member of D.A.R., St. Mary’s County Genealogical Society, and a Librarian at LDS Library, California, MD in Genealogy. Margaret Susan Eisgrau
Margaret Susan Eisgrau of Newport News, VA formerly of Lexington Park, MD died on January 28, 2001 in the Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, VA. Born August 11, 1916 in Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late Timothy O’Hearn and Alice Cullen O’Hearn. She was the loving wife of 48 years, to the late Alexander Eisgrau. She was the devoted mother of Ellen Raffetto and her husband Thomas Raffetto, of Yorktown, VA. She was the sister of the late James J. O’Hearn. She is also survived by her grandson John Raffetto and wife Stephanie Raffetto of Arlington, VA and grandson Peter Raffetto of Portsmouth, VA. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Susan C. Raffetto. Mrs. Eisgrau moved to Lexington Park, MD in 1949 where she lived until 1996. She served for many years as a clerk of the Civil Court in St. Mary’s County. Throughout her life she was active in local schools and the parish of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where she volunteered with Catholic Daughters of America and Ladies of Charity. She was an active member of the Lion’s Club, and was recognized by the Southern Maryland Tri-County Community Action Committee for her 20-year commitment to serving the poor and elderly through the Life Support program.

Thomas Patrick "Tom" Hormuth
Thomas Patrick "Tom" Hormuth, LCDR, USN (ret) 61, of Mechanicsville, MD, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.
Born on April 22, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer Patrick and Klare Kress Hormuth. Mr. Hormuth served in the United States Navy from 1968 until 1987. He received the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Navy "E; , Good Conduct, Vietnam Campaign and Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Valorious Unit Citation. He joined Jorge Scientific Corporation in April 1996 as a Senior Logistics Manager providing logistics support to the Sparrow Air-to-Air Missile program at the Naval Air Systems Command on Patuxent River Naval Air Station.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Louise Henninger Hormuth, whom he married on January 8, 1966, two sons; Brian Patrick Hormuth and Marc Patrick Hormuth of Virginia Beach, VA, a daughter-in-law, Kelley Hormuth of Virginia Beach, VA, two grandchildren; Aaron Patrick Hormuth and Brittney Elise Hormuth, one sister, Tracey Hormuth of Fredericksburg, VA and two brothers; Jay Hormuth of Chino Hills, CA and Roy Hormuth of Arlington, VA.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, January 27, 2001 at 11; 00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Wayside Catholic Church in Chaptico, MD. The Reverend John P. Stack was the celebrant. Interment will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 in Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, VA at 1; 00 p.m.

Donald Harry Leonard
Donald Harry Leonard, 86, of Leonardtown, Maryland, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center.
Born November 22, 1914 in Johnson City, Tennessee he was the son of the late W.A. and Margaret Lewis Leonard. Mr. Leonard was one of 21 children. He moved to St. Mary’s County in 1991 from Florida, and was an Insurance Salesman.
Mr. Leonard is survived by a son Robert Glenn Leonard of White Plains, Maryland, a daughter Patricia Martineau of Kingsport, Tennessee, 6 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Don Rae Leonard and a granddaughter Kimberly Jean Leonard.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD.

Dorothy Louise Sullivan
Dorothy Louise Sullivan, 89, of Abell, Maryland, died on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at her residence.
Born June 24, 1911 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late William Ford and Ella I. Bowles Nelson. Mrs. Sullivan moved to St. Mary’s county 23 years ago from Clinton, Maryland, she was a homemaker. In May 1979 she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Francis Sullivan, Jr.
Mrs. Sullivan is survived by her son David J. Sullivan of Wichita, Kansas, by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, she was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Leroy Nelson and a sister Geneve Baker.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at 11; 00 a.m. in Holy Angel’s Catholic Church, Avenue, MD. Interment followed in Queen of Peace Catholic cemetery, Helen, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7, Avenue, MD 20609 and/or Hospice of St. Mary’s, Inc., P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Arrangements were provided by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.

Mattingly, Elizabeth Owen
Mattingly, Elizabeth Owens on Sunday, January 21, 2001, died peacefully at home in Abell, Maryland.
Beloved wife of James W. Mattingly, Founder of Mattingly’s Finer Foods in Leonardtown, MD, mother of Colonel James Donald Mattingly USMC (Ret.) of San Clemente, CA; Michael Wayne Mattingly of California, MD and Mary Elizabeth Rudman of Leonardtown, MD. Also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Youngest of 12 children, she was predeceased by brothers, James, Willie, John, Raymond, Benjamin, Larry and Joseph Owens, and sisters, Lillie Ritter, Annie Woodburn, infant Daisy and Essie May Gibson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 in Holy Angel’s Catholic Church. Interment followed at St. Joseph’s Catholic cemetery, Morganza, MD.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Father Pohlmann Educational Fund, 21340 Colton Point Road, Avenue, MD 20609.

Delinda Maria Clarke
Delinda Maria Clarke, 42, of St. Mary’s City, Maryland, died on January 14, 2001 at her residence.
Born on January 14, 1959 in Laurel, Maryland, she was daughter of Jerry Carson of Georgetown, Texas and the late Eileen Perucznik Carson. Mrs. Clarke has been a resident of St. Mary’s County for twenty years. She attended the University of Maryland and the Culinary Institute of America. She was a Pastry Chef for the Brome-Howard Inn in St. Mary’s City. She also was a member of St. Mary’s Yacht club.
In addition to her father, Mrs. Clarke is also survived by her stepmother, Mae B. Carson of Georgetown, Texas, two sisters, Sharron Brassi of Bethesda, Maryland, Denise Carson Buckley of Accokeek, MD, two brothers, Frank Carson, of Accokeek, Maryland, and Cris Carson of Prince Frederick, Maryland.
A Memorial Service were conducted on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Town Creek Drive, Lexington Park, Maryland 20653. Interment will be private.
