David Goldsmith

KENNEBUNK - David Jay Goldsmith of Kennebunk, passed away July 15, 2004 surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Bangor on June 29, 1951, a son of Milton and Irma Goldsmith of Boca Raton, Fla. He attended Old Town High School and graduated from the University of Maine. He began working with his father in the family business, Goldsmith Sporting Goods in 1973, and in 1986 became the owner.

His lifelong passion was sports and he participated in every aspect of it from his work in the sporting goods business to being an avid basketball and baseball player. He loved working with kids, particularly his two sons, and later coached several leagues in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport; including the basketball travel team, little league baseball and AAU basketball. He most recently participated in the "Mary's Walk for Cancer."

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 17 years, Donna (Lindgren) Goldsmith and his sons Andrew and Scotty Goldsmith; his parents, Milton and Irma Goldsmith of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sisters, Diana and husband Jim Brickel of Rockland, and Jodi and husband Terry Veysey of Portland; one brother, Dr. Dana and wife Carol Goldsmith of Rockland; one brother-in-law Bjorn and wife Beverly Lindgren of Houston, Texas; and mother-in-law Inga-Lisa Lindgren of Kennebunk.

He was predeceased by infant daughter Annie, grandparents Arthur and Eva Goldsmith, and Samuel and Mildred Miller.

The family has requested donation be sent to Sea Road School, 1 Storer St., Kennebunk, ME 04043, in lieu of flowers.

A funeral service was held Monday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Kennebunk.

Arrangements by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk.

Edwina Grisinger

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Edwina Grisinger, a 1956 graduate of Dover (N.H.) High School, passed away July 1, 2004 after a brief illness.

She was the daughter of the late Edmund and Hilda (Varney) Leighton of Dover, N.H.

She was predeceased by her parents, a son Haven W. Andrews III, who died in 1995 and a brother, Carl A. Stone of Rochester, N.H.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; one son, Sean Grisinger of Asheville, N.C.; a daughter, Karen E. Andrews and her children, Lauren E. Buck, Alexandra N. Buck and Samuel W. Buck, all of Kennebunkport; a daughter, Jodi L. Andrews and her husband, Larry McKnight, children Avery and Jack W. McKnight, all of Hampton, Va.; and one grandson, Haven W. Andrews IV of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, Larry Stone and his family, of Watertown, Conn.; and many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Her ashes were buried at the family cemetery in Dover, N.H.

James Gunn

KENNEBUNKPORT - James Gunn "Jim" Edward Gunn, 42, died July 14, 2004 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

He was born in Biddeford on Aug. 13, 1961, a son of Richard L. and Frances (Litwinowich) Gunn of Kennebunkport, was educated in Kennebunkport schools, attended one year at Kennebunk High School and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1979. He attended prep school in Northfield, Mass. in 1980 and graduated from Babson College in 1984, majoring in marketing.

He planed in the Biddeford High School ice hockey program and holds the career goals record with 83 goals and 134 total record with 83 goals and 134 total points. He played Division II hockey at Babson College, ending with a career of 41 goals and 75 assists, ranking 11th on the college all-time points list. He received several hockey awards, including the Holy Cross Crusader All-tournament plaque in January 1983.

He coached the Weston College Hockey team in Massachusetts, and coached three seasons of hockey at Bonny Eagle High School.

He also held positions in sales, cooking and building construction.

He enjoyed golf, but his family says his greatest pleasure was cooking and baking for family, coworkers and friends.

In September 1986, he married Cherie J. Lyman of South Attleboro, Mass., and later moved to Goose Rocks Beach.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years of Kennebunkport; his parents of Kennebunkport and Lady Lake, Fla.; two brothers, Richard (Rick) Gunn and his wife Kathy of Blenbrun and Donald Gunn and his wife Michelle of Biddeford; one sister, Linda Thornton of Scarborough; one niece, Ellen Thornton of Scarborough; three nephews, Aaron Gunn of Biddeford and Duncan and Cameron Gunn of Glenburn; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Frederick Guterman

NEW YORK CITY - Frederick H. Guterman, 83, quietly passed away on June 28, 2004 in New York City after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease.

He was born in Cambridge, Mass. on May 5, 1921, the only child of Ruth and Herbert Guterman, and grew up in Newton, Mass. His summers were spent in Ogunquit, at his beloved "Meadowmere." As a child, he sailed out of Perkins Cove in his dory with his dog Sandie, to Cape Porpoise and the surrounding areas. As a young man, he attended Cornell University, graduating in 1942 with a degree in administrative engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Quill and Dagger, and Kappa Beta Phi. He then joined the U.S. Army Air Corps as an armaments and ordnance officer with XIX TAC, 9th Air Force, the principle air support for Patton's 3rd Army. Having reached the rank of Major, he retired from the Army in 1946.

He then went on to lead a successful business career, serving as vice president and general manager of Industrial and Military Equipment Operations for Allen B. Dumont Laboratories Inc. Following that post, he served as president of the Industrial Products Division of International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation, and also vice president of sales at Arma, a division of American Bosch Arma Corporation. In 1973, he took the helm as president of Horn and Hardart Restaurants, and Hanover House Mail Order Company.

With a special character, engaging to both friends and strangers alike, he had a smile and a song for everyone, and embraced life to the fullest. Among his many interests were golfing at The Cape Neddick Country Club in Cape Neddick, and The Breakers Golf Club in Palm Beach, playing tennis at Tennis Port in Queens, N.Y., skiing in Aspen, and making the rounds at The Wings Club and Cornell Club in New York City. He and his beloved Maine summer home are featured in the current July-August issue of Coastal Living magazine.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth "Chickie" Guterman and Herbert C. Guterman.

He is survived by one son, James Ludewig Guterman of New York City.

A memorial was held July 8 at 926 5th Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the National Parkinson Foundation.

Miriam Hatch

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. - Miriam E. (Eldridge) Hatch ("Bette") died peacefully on July 13, 2004 at

The Meadows in North Andover, after a period of failing health, with her beloved husband by her side.

She was born Jan. 3, 1920 in Mansonville, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Daniel G. and Theresa (Willard) Eldridge.

She worked as an administrative assistant in Canada for 11 years, part of the time as secretary to the manager of the Royal Canadian Air Force Air

Observer School during World War II. After her marriage to Charles G. Hatch, she moved to Andover and became an American citizen. In addition to

being a devoted homemaker and mother to her four sons, she volunteered at Lawrence General Hospital and was a long-time member and served as president

of the Andover Garden Club. For many years, she enjoyed her summers at Drakes Island in Wells.

She leaves her husband of 57 years; four sons, Charles G. Jr. and his wife Lynn of York, J. Daniel and his wife Brit of Nashua, N.H., Richard E. and his

wife Eva Marie Sage of Edgewater, Md., and Timothy P. and his wife Kerry of Andover, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five nephews; and one niece.

In lieu of flowers at the family's request, a memorial donation may be made to Fair Tide, 200 State Rd., Kittery, ME 03904, or to a charity of one's choice.

Annie Melcher

WELLS - Annie A. Melcher, 82, of Wells, formerly of Attleboro, died July 13, 2004 at the Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford. She was the wife of Richmond A. Melcher to whom she had been married to for the past 45 years.

She was born in Blackstone, Mass., April 10, 1922, a daughter of the late William R. and Mary E. (Daniels) Stewart. She had been a resident of Wells for the past 19 years, formerly having lived in Attleboro, Mass. for 19 years.

She was a graduate of Blackstone High School and was a former member of the Dorcas Circle of the Centenary United Methodist Church of Attleboro. She had been a homemaker.

In addition to her husband, she leaves one son, Steward A. Melcher of Ft. Myers, Fla.; one daughter, Jessie E. Brown of Attleboro, Mass.; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday in the Sherman and Jackson Funeral Home, Mansfield. Burial was in the Spring Brook cemetery in Mansfield.

Celia Sinclair

KENNEBUNKPORT - Services for Celia C. Sinclair of Ocean Avenue, Kennebunkport and Pittsburgh, Pa., who died May 3, 2004, will be held Friday July 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in the Port.

Gladys Sisson

WELLS - Gladys M. Sisson, 92, of Sanford Road, passed away July 18, 2004 at her residence after a period of failing health.

She was born Dec. 7, 1911, in New Bedford, Mass., a daughter of Richard and Harriet (Pierce) Morrison.

She was a woman of many talents including painting, sewing, block prints, rug hooking and furniture decorating. She and her husband Clayton, owned and operated an antique shop in Wells since the 1960s, where she sold antiques as well as her own handywork. She loved flowers and especially enjoyed her own flower garden.

She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 74-1/2 years, Clayton E. Sisson of Wells and her son, Clayton E. Sisson Jr., of Rye, N.H.

At the request of the family, there will be no services.

Friends who wish may contribute in her memory to the Salvation Army, c/o Dale Barrows, PO Box 369, North Berwick, ME 03906.

Natalie Smith

ELIOT - Natalie P. Smith, 80, of Sargents Lane, passed away unexpectedly July 19, 2004 at her residence.

She was born April 2, 1924 in Sanford, a daughter of Neil and Susie (Stone) Murray.

She had worked as a dietician and cook for many area nursing homes as well as the York Hospital. She and her husband, Donald, enjoyed their lives together and especially loved to go camping. She also loved animals. She had attended Bethel Christian Church in North Berwick.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 47 years, Donald Smith of Eliot and several nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by several brothers and sisters.

A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, with the Rev. Robert G. Cole Jr. officiating. Interment following in Oakdale cemetery in Sanford.

Everett Thurlow

ARUNDEL - Everett Beach Thurlow died after a short illness at Maine Medical Center, Portland.

He was born June 28, 1921 in Lee, Maine, a son of Rollin H. and Margurite (Beach) Thurlow.

He was married to Wilda (Whitney) Thurlow for 62 years.

He is survived by six children, Mary Jean and Derrill Cowing of Monmouth, Maine, Rollin and Andrea Thurlow of Atkinson, Maine, and Whitney and Susie Thurlow-Meyer of Wanaka, New Zealand; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He graduated from Lee Academy, Lee, Maine in 1939. He received a BA from the University of Omaha in 1961, and a master's degree in education from the University of Maine 1963.

He joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 and was a B-24 Squadron Commander in the Pacific Theater 1943-1945. He made a career of the Air Force and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel before his retirement in 1962.

After returning to Maine he taught ROTC in Biddeford from 1966 to 1967, and was a flight instructor at Sanford, Biddeford, and Portland airports from 1968 to 1990. He was the designated FAA flight examiner for private and commercial pilot licenses.

In his retirement, friends and family greatly benefited from his hobbies in bee keeping, maple syrup, and strawberries. He was a long-time member of the Webhannet Golf Club and Small Woodlot Owners Association of Maine.

A memorial service will be held at St. David's Episcopal Church 138 York St., Route 1 Kennebunk on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Barbara Amee

OGUNQUIT - Barbara May Amee, 80 of Dana Road, Ogunquit and Venice, Fla. died July 19, 2004 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

She was born May 30, 1924 in York, the daughter of Arthur A. and Alice S. (Clough) Boston. She graduated from Wells High School and McIntosh College.

She worked in the supply department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 30 years retiring in the early 1970s.

She was a member of the Ogunquit Baptist Church. For the last 30 years, she summered in Ogunquit then drove to Florida for the winter. One of her hobbies was collecting seashells.

She was predeceased by her husband Leon F. Amee who died in 1990.

Family members include one son, Stephen Amee of Ogunquit; two sisters, Virginia Blaisdell of York and Kathryn Rowe of Ogunquit; one sister-in-law, Mabel Sargent of Portsmouth, N.H.; one niece; two nephews; and two cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the First Parish Cemetery, York.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Priscilla Galeucia

MOODY -Priscilla Galeucia, 75, a resident of Moody passed away on July 14, 2004 after a courageous struggle with cancer.

She was born in York on March 16, 1929, a daughter of Harold and Gladys (Hilton) Gowen.

She worked as a bookkeeper at Ocean National Bank for many years. She later worked at the Ogunquit Trading Post.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star - Priscilla Chapter of Wells.

She loved quilting and knitting.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon E. Galeucia Sr. in 1987 and a son, Bruce in 2002. She was also predeceased by a brother, Carroll Gowen and a sister, Margaret Brewster.

She is survived by one son, Gordon Galeucia Jr. and his wife Diane of Cypress, Texas; two daughters, Pamela Card and her husband Frank of Moody and Paula Card and her husband Richard of Belgrade; one brother, Robert Cady of Moody; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her family and her long-time friend and companion, Edwin Littlefield.

Eastern Star services were held Friday and a funeral service was held Saturday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells with the Rev. David Clark officiating. Interment was in First Parish Cemetery, York.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society of New England, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086-1246 in her memory.

The family would like to thank to the Beacon Hospice Care staff for their professional care and kindness extended to Mrs. Galeucia.
