A World War II veteran, he served his country in the US Army with the military police. He was employed by Faye-Scott-Landis as a machinist for many years. Our father was a gentle, quiet and thoughtful man. He treated everyone with respect and kindness because "it was the right thing to do." Daddy was able to see both sides of an issue because he truly listened to what people had to say and respected their right to say it. As children, we learned from him the value of a job done right and the importance of having the ambition and the courage to try. He took on new challenges with gusto, whether it be making the perfect cupboard door or repairing the mysterious problem with the lawn mower. Daddy never quit. We learned from him that perseverance would lead us to an answer. As adults, we have had a wonderful role model. Daddy loved each of us unconditionally. He worried about our problems as much as we did and offered observations that were grounded in the wisdom of age and compassion. He loved his grandchildren in the same, quiet way. Daddy, by example, taught us to be better parents and better people. Our tribute to him is to live up to the example he set for us. After ten lonely years, he joins our mother and fills that empty place in his heart. He is survived by two sons, Ronald Sr. and his wife Carole of Plymouth, and their children, Ronald Jr. and Lanci; Dennis and his wife Claudette of Brownville, and their children, Beatrice, Tammy, Claude, and Roscoe; a daughter, Linda Amsden and her husband Lawrence of Newport, and their children, Tobrina and Amanda; three sisters-in law, Frances Royal, Eliza Doore, and Carolyn Doore; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley, in 1997, his parents, his brothers, Kenneth and Clayton, his sister, Elva, and his granddaughter, Karen.
