Reverend Robert E. Stuart
October 07, 2005
Kennebunk

Reverend Robert E. Stuart, 74, a resident of Stuart Lane, Kennebunk passed away Friday October 7, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family.

Rev. Stuart was born in Hollis, ME on April 17, 1931 a son of Reverend Chauncey J. and Elsie May Clark Stuart.

He graduated from Kennebunk High School - 1950, Gordon College – 1954, and Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary -1979.

Rev. Stuart served as interim minister for several Baptist churches in Maine until 1972 when he began full-time ministry at the Kennebunk Baptist Church where his grandfather and then his father had also served for many years. He served the Winter Street Baptist Church in Gardiner, ME from 1980 to1986, and then the Sanford Baptist Church until his retirement in 1995.

During his retirement he remained active in the ministry as interim pastor for several Baptist churches in Maine and Florida.

Rev. Stuart loved hunting with his boys, enjoyed fishing, gardening, and camping with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years Charlotte Steward Stuart; four sons, Mark and Brenda Stuart, Keith and Shelly Stuart, James and Meredith Stuart all of Kennebunk, and Peter and Pamela Stuart of Waldoboro, Me; two daughters Sharon and Ray Michaud and Beverly and Bill Simpson both of Kennebunk; four brothers David G., Paul W., Frederick C. Stuart all of Kennebunk and Carleton J. Stuart of San Francisco, CA.; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 9 PM Monday October 10, 2005 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer Street Kennebunk.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at the Ogunquit Baptist Church, Shore Road, Ogunquit, ME with the Reverend David Clark officiating.

Private Burial will be in Stuart Private Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Donations may be made in Rev. Stuart’s memory to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Billy Graham Parkway Charlotte, NC 28201-0001 or to the China Lake Conference Center P.O. Box 149 China, ME 04926.

Robert S. Ludwig

Robert S. Ludwig, 82, of Paddy Creek Road, died Wednesday afternoon at home.

He was born in Lowell, MA on June 19, 1923, a son of Albert Ashton and Fanny Rugg Sawyer Ludwig.

He graduated from Chelmsford High School, Class of 1941. He then entered the University of Maine at Orono. World War II interrupted his schooling, and he honorably served his country as a Naval aviator. He was a torpedo bomber pilot in Carrier Air Group 97. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to the University of Maine where he graduated in 1948 with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Upon graduation, Robert went to work as an engineer for Atlas Plywood Corp., followed by the Tide Water Oil Company. In December 1951, he married Muriel Whitehouse. They remained married for 41 years until her death in 1993. I n 1961, he purchased and restored Arundel Wharf in Kennebunkport and established Arundel Marine Services. From 1962 through 1986, Robert taught physics at South Portland High school.

He was a member, and past commodore, of the Arundel Yacht Club; a member of the Arundel Lodge #76, A.F. & A.M.; former chairman, Kennebunkport Planning Board; and an active volunteer and docent of the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Laudholm Trust. He was treasurer of Kennebunkport Emergency Medical Service (KEMS) for over 20 years.

Survivors include:
his son, Philip W. Ludwig and his wife Joan of Kennebunk
a brother, Allan A. Ludwig of Pepperell, MA
2 granddaughters, Julie and Lauren Ludwig.

Visiting hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, December 2, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Charles Whiston presiding.

Russell N. Brown

Russell N. Brown 85 years a resident of Heath Road Kennebunk died Wednesday Feb 8, 2006 at his home after a brief illness.

Russell was born in Kennebunk on October 20, 1920 a son of Wesley and Mary Etta (Towne) Brown. He attended local Schools.

He served in the United States Army during WWII.

Russell was employed by the Town of Kennebunk as Road Foreman for many years before retiring in 1986.

He enjoyed golf, auto mechanic, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also was a long time animal lover.

He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude L Perry Brown who died in 1999, his daughter Viola Furbish, his parents, his brothers and sisters.

He is survived by 5 sons Russell W. Brown of West Kennebunk, David, Ernest, Wayne and Nelson Brown all of Kennebunk, 4 daughters Nancy Bshara of Alfred, Gloria Pruneau of Newport News, Va., Rosemary Plante of Kennebunk and Ella Pontbriant of Arundel and 36 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk where a funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday at the Chapel with the Reverend Irvin Verrill officiating.

Private Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.

Should friends desire memorial donation may be made to the Animal Welfare Society; P.O. Box 43; West Kennebunk, Maine 04094 in Russell’s memory.

Shirley Ann Kroustallis

Portland- Shirley Ann Kroustallis, 49 years, of Casco Street, Portland died unexpectedly Sunday November 20, in Portland, Maine.

Shirley was born July 4, 1956 in Portland, Maine, a daughter of William and Lurlene Vance Dame. She attended Portland schools and graduated from Deering High School in 1974. She married Konstantinos Kroustallis and raised their children in Kennebunk.

Shirley loved spending time with her 2 grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, shopping craft fairs, and nights out playing Bingo with friends. Shirley was also a collector of Hummels and loved searching through yard sales and shops for her treasures.

Her daughter Litza and her husband Dennis Canniff of Kennebunk; son George Kroustallis and his wife Devon of Kennebunk; sisters Harriett Dame and Maryann Parlin; and two grandchildren survive Shirley.

Friends may call from 8:30 to 10 am Saturday November 26 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME. A funeral service will follow at 10 am at the chapel with Reverend Carolyn Lambert. Interment will be in Pine Grove cemetery in West Kennebunk.

Steven Paul Joyce

– Steven P. Joyce, 57, of Berwick passed away on October 14, 2006 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Quincy, MA on August 19, 1948, the son of Francis and Dorothy (Schlager) Joyce. He lived for a period in Massachusetts, graduating from Braintree High School, then moved to Rochester, New Hampshire, but had lived in Berwick for fifteen years. He was a self-employed building contractor/builder and worked in construction for over 35 years. He served four years in the United States Air Force.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but especially time with the boys.

He is survived by two sons, James S. Joyce and Michael P. Joyce of Berwick; four brothers, Robert F. Joyce of Bourne, MA., Kevin B. Joyce of Plymouth, MA., Dennis M. Joyce of Marshfield, MA., and Thomas J. Joyce of Rockland, MA, and a sister, Tami M. Patten of Rockland, MA.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, October 18th at the Laing-Bibber Memorial Chapel, 36 Rochester Street in Berwick, Maine. Visiting hours will be followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial Service, at 7 pm, at the Chapel with Pastor Thomas Clark officiating. Interment will take place at later date at the Bourne National cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts.

Those who wish may make a memorial donation to: Hospice of Southern Maine, 901 Washington Avenue, Suite 104, Portland, Maine 04103.

Tessie E. Milton

Tessie E. Milton, age 86 of Post Road, Wells, died Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Greenwood Center in Sanford.

Tessie was born in the Bronx, NY on September 8, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Anna Ladopolous Economos. She attended and graduated from New York Schools and had lived in Massachusetts before moving to Wells in 1970.

Tessie was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and Republican Town Committee in Massachusetts. She was also a member of St. David’s Church in Kennebunk where she served on its Altar Guild, and was an active worker on various charities. She also volunteered at the Wells Public Library when it opened.

Her husband of 56 years, Peter S. Milton died in 1996. She is also predeceased by her brother, William Economos.

Surviving are two daughters, Anne Milton of Springvale, and Helen Smith of Bridgton; three grandchildren, Reid Irwin of Standish, Elizabeth Irwin of Bridgton, and Tristan Smith and his wife Nicole of Sebago; and a great grandson, Ian Smith of Sebago.

Visiting hours will be from 10 to 11am Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road in Wells, where a funeral service will follow at 11am with Rev. Dan Riggall officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at Ocean View cemetery in Wells.

Thomas Joseph Harmon

Thomas Joseph Harmon, 47 years, of Arundel Road, Kennebunkport died February 1, 2006 at Southern Maine Medical Center after a short illness.

Tom was born September 6, 1958 in Stoneham, MA, a son of Jack and Eleanor Meade Harmon. He was educated in the Medford, MA grammar schools and Kennebunk High School.

Tom was a very skillful carpenter and he pursued a career of self-employment as a finish carpenter.

Tom enjoyed playing hockey, golf, darts, hunting, and camping. He loved his family and loved spending time with them. He was outgoing and enjoyed his many friends. He was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 4030 in Arundel.

His brother, John Harmon, and father, Jack predeceased Tom.

Surviving Tom is his beloved wife, Paula (Underwood) Harmon; sons John and Stephen Harmon; step-daughter, Tori Smith; mother Eleanor Harmon of Wells; sisters, Mary-ellen McEvoy of Wells, Martha Jane Arrazcaeta of Cooper City, FLA, Cathy DeAdder of Millbury, MA, Margaret O’Connell of Wells, Beverly Neugebauer of Scarborough, and Joanne Ladlow of Wells; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Friday February 3 at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, ME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday February 4 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Church, Eldridge Road, Wells, Maine. Interment will be private.

Vincent A. Vitale

Vincent A. (Jim) Vitale, 78, of Nottingham Drive, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at New England Rehabilitation Hospital in Woburn, Massachusetts.

He was born in East Boston, MA on June 18, 1927, the son of Felix and Jenny Ristaino Vitale.

On April 24, 1955, he married Antonetta Filomeno in Revere, MA.

Vincent was a machinist in the computer industry.

He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

Vincent was a communicant of St. Mary’s Parish, and served as an usher. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He delivered meals for “Meals on Wheels”, and he volunteered at the Wells Senior Center.

He enjoyed golf, reading the newspaper, and walking on the beach.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a nephew, Matt Antell.

Survivors include:
his loving wife of 50 years, of Wells.
2 daughters: Marie Vitale of Wakefield, MA
Ellen Meinert and son-in-law Arthur Meinert of Wakefield, MA
his son: James Vitale and daughter-in-law Mary Vitale of Altamont, NY
his sister: Emily Antell of Medford, MA
his niece: Lisa Kupsc of Cohassett, MA
his grandchildren: Nicolette, Kyle, Amy, Alex, Andrea, and Jim.

There are no visiting hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 22, 2005 at 12:00 noon at St. Mary’s Church, 236 Eldridge Road, Wells, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to: Lahey Clinic Philanthropy Department, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805.

Wendell I Hawe, Sr.

Wendell I. Hawe, Sr., age 89 of Kennebunk, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Scarborough after a short illness.
He was born in Medford, MA on February 11, 1916, a son of Ephraim and Aimee L. Maynard Hawe and graduated from Medford High School in 1935.
Wendell faithfully served his country in the US Army during WWII.
He worked as an electrical technician for the MBTA for 33 years and retired from there in 1976.
Mr. Hawe was a member of the American Legion and the Local#717 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He also was a 39 year member of the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennebunkport.
He is predeceased by his wife, Adele (Steele) Hawe who died in 2002; and two brothers, Alfred Hawe and George Hawe.
Surviving are his son, Wendell I. Hawe, Jr of Kennebunk; a daughter, Elizabeth Moran of Fort Myers, FL; a brother, Robert Hawe of Acton, MA; and two sisters, Dorothy Gates of MA, and Marion Knight of Salem, NH; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Services will be held in the spring with burial at St. John’s cemetery in Lancaster, MA. If desired, donations can be made in his memory to the Seashore Trolley Museum, PO Box A, Kennebunkport, ME 04046

Willette P. McNary

Willette P. McNary, age 95, formerly of Falmouth, MA died Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was lovingly called 'Auntie Billie' or 'Willie' by all who loved her, and was a committed woman to making the world a better place.

Willette was born in Worcester, Mass on July 11, 1910, a daughter of Lewis E. and Katherine Craigen Pierce.

She graduated from Deering High School and Tufts University for her undergraduate degree, and Boston University graduate earning her Masters Degree in Social Work.

She had worked for the American Red Cross during WWII and also held positions working with Refugees with the Norfolk House in Boston and also in Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Throughout her entire life she traveled widely. She had a global view of the world but took personal, local action all of her life. People from all over the world made a home in her home as they made the transition from their birth country to the U.S.
Willette never had children but was a close involved aunt, great aunt, and great great aunt. She sponsored the support of children through child reach, UNICEF, and a variety of programs where you could support a child with a monthly donation and letters.

She was a member of the Unitarian Church, Hospice, and a supporter of Doctors without Borders.

She will be missed by all who knew her.

Willette is predeceased by her husband, Jack McNary; two brothers, Louis Pierce and Richard Pierce; and a sister, Katherine Pierce Hulsey.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held the Kennebunk Unitarian Universalist Church, at a time and date to be announced, in the summer of 2006 when her family can all get together and her friends are warmly invited.
