Thomas L. Deroche
1999-08-12

NORWAY - Thomas L. Deroche, 78, of Oxford died Monday, August 2, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Rumford on May 23, 1921, the son of Theodore and Beulah Lapham Deroche.

He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford.

He owned and operated Tom's Restaurant in Norway, now known as Chef's Table and then was a salesman for many years.

Mr. Deroche enjoyed fishing, golf, and enjoyed and loved his family.

He was a United States Marine, serving his country during WWII, and a survivor of Pearl Harbor.

He lived in the Norway and Oxford area for many years.

He married the former Maxine Hall on November 24, 1942.

He is survived by his wife of Oxford; two daughters, Diane Parkin of Ottawa, Canada and Cynthia Atkinson of Scarborough; a son Ted of Circleville, OH; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 5, at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home in Norway. Interment was in Riverside cemetery in Rumford.

Donations in Mr. Deroche's memory may be sent to either the American Cancer Society, Box 456, Brunswick, ME 04011, or Maine Lung Association of Maine, 128 Sewall Street, Augusta, ME 04330.

Edward T. Diamant

OXFORD - Graveside services will be held for Edward T. Diamant on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Oxford. Arrangements are by Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

Marie J. Doane
1998-06-11

Marie J. Doane, 69, of Mechanic Falls died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at her daughter's home after a long illness.

She was born in Buckfield, May 29,1929, the daughter of Charles and Ione Conant Allen. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1947 and she attended Mid Maine Business School.

She married Henry J. Doane on November 8,1947. She had worked in many local establishments. She was Past President and honorary lifetime member of Mechanic Falls Fire Department Auxiliary, a member of the Mechanic Falls Congregational Church where she enjoyed making salads and casseroles for church suppers. She was a member of Dwinal Chapter # 28 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, bingo and basketball, especially the Celtics.

She is survived by her husband of Mechanic Falls; five children and their spouses, Linda and Norman Boulgier of Randolph, Alan and Melanie Doane of Mechanic Falls, Brian and Ann Doane of Litchfield,NH, Mavis and David Smith of Bedford, MA and Colleen and Richard Fitts of South Paris; nine grandchildren, Amanda Boulgier, Aletha Thompson, Nathan, Laura and Megan Doane, Devin, Dusty and Dasie Smith and Nathan Gunn; one great-grandchild, Dominick Thompson; one brother, Maynard Allen of Ipswich, MA and two sisters, Betty Sawyer of Wiscassett and Ruth Treadwell of Florida. She was predeceased by three brothers Merle, Malcolm and Denton Allen and a sister, Doreen Rhodes.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanic Falls with Rev. Michael Ring officiating.In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial gifts to Mechanic Falls Rescue Association, Mechanic Falls, ME. Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. Margaret Doggett
1999-08-12

The Reverend Margaret F. (Hammond) Doggett, 84, of Wiscasset, died Saturday, August 7 at her residence.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on June 30, 1915, she was the daughter of Edward A. and Susan (Taber) Freshman.

She was educated at the Parker Collegiate Institute of Brooklyn and Vesper George School of Art in Boston.

On November 14, 1938 she married Maro F. Hammond. He died on June 6, 1966. In 1947 she moved to North Edgecomb. On August 31, 1968, she married Brewster Dayton Doggett and they lived in Edgecomb, later moving to Wiscasset in 1971.

She was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Wiscasset serving as a communicant, founder of the Bell Choir, a member of the Altar Guild, Vestry as Senior Warden and on February 14, 1982, was ordained to the Diaconate in the Episcopal Church and served as Deacon at St. Philip's. She was a member and Past Presidentess of the Wiscasset Female Charitable Society and a member of the Wiscasset Public Library.

She was predeceased by her husband Brewster D. Doggett on March 23, 1996.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah F. Hammond of Cumberland Foreside; her son, Arthur T. Hammond of Kingfield; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia K. Hammond of Kingfield; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 13 at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Wiscasset with the Rev. Dr. Richard H. Hall officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills cemetery in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wiscasset Female Charitable Society, P.O. Box 187, Wiscasset or to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 316, Wiscasset, ME 04578. Arrangements are by Mayo & Daigle Funeral Home, 40 Federal Street, Wiscasset.

Francis J. "Frank" Doherty
1998-07-16

SOUTH PARIS Francis J. `Frank' Doherty, 82, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris where he had lived since 1995. He was formerly of Rumford where he had resided for many years.

He was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada on March 6, 1916 and was the son of Peter and Mary (Shea) Doherty. He had attended Rumford schools and During WW II he served overseas with the U.S. 1st. Army, 3rd Armored Division as a Pvt. from January 12,1943 to September 29, 1945 including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Mr. Doherty was a well known cab driver in the Rumford area for many years until his retirement in 1972. He was a life member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post #24, American Legion and the Robert Shand Post #1641, V.F.W. and he was a communicant of St. Athanasius-St. John Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Dupree of Mexico; three grandchildren; Mrs.. David (Stephanie) Benedix of Mexico, Crystal Dupree of Orlando, Florida, and Russell Dupree of Mexico; five great grandchildren, Edmund Giasson III, of Lakeland, Florida, Amy Giasson of Rumford, Candice Radcliff of Mexico, Gregory Dupree and William Gallant of Rumford, a step-brother William Doherty of New Hampshire and a sister, Annie Blay of Mexico.

At his request, there are no public calling hours or funeral services. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Arrangements are under the care of the Meader & Son Funeral Home, Rumford.

James Peter Donahue
1998-11-19

BRIDGTON - James Peter Donahue, 69, husband of Joan Brigid Giffen Donahue of Highland Lake in Bridgton, died of cancer on November 11.

Mr. Donahue was born in Detroit on July 5, 1929, the son of John and Esther Dingeman Donahue. He was raised in Detroit and a graduate of Catholic Central High School. He attended the University of Detroit and earned his Masters in Business Administration from the there.

Mr. Donahue also served with the Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean conflict. He married the former Joan Brigid Giffin on May 30, 1955.

Mr. Donahue is survived by his wife of Bridgton; seven children, James G. Donahue of Milan and Harbor Springs, Michigan, Deirdre E. Donahue of Arlington, Virginia, John P. Donahue of Trumbull, Connecticut, T. Brendan Donahue, Poughkeepsie, New York, Brian J. Donahue of Arlington Heights, Illinois, Mary Brigid Donahue of Gorham, Maine; and Sheila L. Donahue of Bethel; 15 grandchildren; one brother, John J. Donahue of Cadillac, Michigan; two sisters, Dolores A. McCarthy of Baja, Mexico and Margaret Lorenger of Cave Creek, Arizona.

Mr. Donahue's wife and children remember him fondly as the world's most perfect gentleman. He was a procurement professional for over forty years, and he retired in June of 1994 from UNISYS located in McLean, Virginia

A funeral mass was held on Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bridgton. A memorial mass was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 14, also at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Arrangements were under care of the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home, Bridgton.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to one or more of the following: Hospice-Community Health Services, 107 High Street, Bridgton, ME 04009; American Cancer Society of Maine, 52 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME 04011; or Maine Medical Center for Cancer, 100 Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074,

Mildred E. J. Dorman
1999-02-25

Mildred E. J. Dorman, 86, died at her home Monday, February 22.

Born in Hoboken, N.J., she was the daughter of Henry J. and Mary E. (Smith) Johnston.

While in New Jersey, she attended Drew University, and in 1945, she married Edwin M. Dorman. In 1965 she and her husband moved their family to the area where they resided in Newcastle, before moving to Damariscotta and Ocean Point, Boothbay, where she continued to spend the summers.

Mrs. Dorman enjoyed painting and playing the piano. She was also an avid animal lover, and would often go to the local animal shelter where she would spend the day walking a dog or playing with a kitten.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1979, as well as a brother, Edward W. Johnston, and a daughter, Elizabeth R. Boucher.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia G. Curtis of Damariscotta; a granddaughter, Andrea Teele of Brunswick; and one niece, Barbara Brown of Ocean Point.

A remembrance of her life will be held at the Lincoln Home in Newcastle on Thursday, February 25 at 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Wilson Memorial Chapel in Ocean Point, Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, where donations can be dropped off and a dog can be walked, just as Mildred would have liked.

Mrs. Louise M. Dorsch
1998-12-24

NORWAY - Louise M. Dorsch, 73, of Norway, died Saturday, December 19 at Stephens Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in Lowell, MA, on August 2, 1925, the daughter of Louis and May Craven.

She was a graduate of Lowell High School in 1943.

She worked for many years as a decorator for McQuade's and Gagnon department stores in Lowell.

She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in Lowell. She had lived in the Norway area, coming from Derry and Epping, NH.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick Dorsch of Norway; a son Kendrick J. of South Paris; a daughter Andrea C. Poliquin of Rochester, NH.; a sister, Loreen C. Marini of Framingham, MA; one grandson Adam D. Poliquin of Rochester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Norway.

In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Dorsch's memory may be sent to Androscoggin Home Health PO Box 308 Norway, Maine 04268 or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O Box 2208 Augusta., ME. 04330 or to the American Cancer Society Box 456, Brunswick, ME 040211.

Lena H. Douglas
1999-02-18

SOUTH PARIS -- Lena H. Douglas, 88, of South Paris, formerly of Norway, and Bethel, died early Tuesday morning, February 16, 1999, at the Market Square Health Care Facility, where she had been a resident since 1985.

Mrs. Douglas was born in Waterford, May 2, 1910, the daughter of the late Lucius and Daisy (Wheeler) McAllister, but attended Bethel schools.

A homemaker for the greater portion of her life, she also provided care to the elderly in their homes.

On July 3, 1954, she married Edmund Douglas, who predeceased her.

Mrs, Douglas is survived by two daughters, Beverly Pepin, of Norway and Edna Millett, of South Paris; 13 grandchildren, 14 great children, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a son, Charles Dodge, III; a brother, George McAllister and a daughter, Frances Dodge.

Graveside memorial services in the Pine Grove Cemetery, West Bethel, in the spring.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, ME Division, 52 Federal St., Brunswick, ME 04011-2194.

Arrangements under the care of the Andrews Funeral Home, South Woodstock.
