William J. Lynch
1998-07-09

STAFFORD SPRINGS, CONNECTICUT - William J. Lynch, 88, formally of Enfield Connecticut and Speedway Lane, Oxford died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Johnson Memorial Hospital Stafford Springs, Connecticut.

He was the widower of the late Mary (O'Connor) Lynch who died September 26, 1972.

He was born in Enfield, son of the late John E. and Alice (Quinlan) Lynch. Mr. Lynch was superintendent of the Streets of Enfield in the late 1930's. He retired from the Peter A. Crombie, Inc. Bus Company after 30 years of service and then moved to Oxford in 1972 where he was involved in auto racing and restoration of antique cars.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, William E. Lynch of Suffield, Connecticut, John T. and Lillian Lynch of Willington, CT; six grandchildren, Cathy Whalen, Cynthia Lynch, Margaret O'Donnald, Steven Lynch, Michael Lynch, Susan Frey;, nine great- grandchildren; a sister, Alice Griswold of Broad Brook, CT; a brother, Arthur Lynch of Stafford Springs, CT and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hour Thursday, July 9, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc. 51 East Main Street Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward Church, High Street, Stafford Springs at 10:30 a.m.. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations may be made to St. Edward School Memorial Fund, 6 Benton St., Stafford Springs, CT 06076.

Pamela P. Lyon
1999-04-01

Pamela Poulson Lyon, 52, Nobleboro, died unexpectedly March 27 of a heart attack.

She was born April 27, 1946 in Titusville, N.J., the daughter of Deyrell and Margaret Coates Poulson. She attended Titusville and Syracuse, N.Y., schools, graduating from Fayetteville Manlius High School in Syracuse. She attended Roanoke College in Roanoke, Va., and graduated from Chandler School for Women in Boston.

In 1973, she married Whitney R. Lyon and they made their home in Rochester, N.Y., where she was employed as a medical secretary. Upon the retirement of her husband from the investment banking business, they moved to Damariscotta.

Mrs. Lyon was employed for the past eight years as deputy town clerk of Damariscotta, and was elected clerk on March 22 of this year.

She was a member of the Second Congregational Church of Newcastle and was an active member of the Central Lincoln County YMCA. She enjoyed tennis, bridge, and her book group.

She and her husband summered on Squirrel island, off Boothbay Harbor, where she was a former member of the Squirrel Island Chapel Association.

In addition to her husband of Nobleboro, and her parents of Vineland, N.J., she is survived by a daughter, Dana Whitney Lyon of Brookline, Mass.; a step-daughter, Amy Louise Lyon of Newton, Mass.; and a brother, Scott Poulson of Vineland.

A memorial service will be held Fri., April 2, at 2:30 p.m. at the Second Congregational Church of Newcastle, with the Rev. Michael B. Stevens officiating. Arrangements are by Mayo, Curtis & Hill Funeral Home, Bath.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Squirrel Island Chapel Association or to the Squirrel Island Library, Squirrel Island 04570.

John H. Labbie
1999-11-04

John H. Labbie of Boothbay and Bethel, died on Monday, October 25 at Fieldcrest Manor in Waldoboro.

Mr. Labbie was born on August 20, 1908 in Wilder, Vermont, the son of Winifred Brougly Labbie and John Labbie. He attended Dartmouth College and graduated from Northampton (Mass.) Business College.

Mr. Labbie was a U.S. Government Civil Service employee in Washington, D.C. followed by 20 years as chief clerk, Supervision of Shipbuilding Office, Bath. He retired after ten years as treasurer of the town of Gardiner. He was a collector of rare and old books on American history and also of Calvin Coolidge.

Mr. Labbie was predeceased by his first wife Shirley Marteneo Labbie. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Hilda Murphy Labbie of Boothbay; one daughter and son-in-law, June and Alan Wilkie of Bath; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five step-children and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Thursday, October 28 at the Evergreen cemetery in Boothbay. The Reverend Margaret Russell officiated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay.

Maldwyn J. Langton
1999-10-28

Maldwyn Jane Stanger Langton, 84, of Boxford, Mass., wife of the late Bernard Bishop Langton, died Thursday, October 14 at the Herrick House in Beverly, Mass., following a battle with cancer.

Born in Evanston, Illinois on January 3, 1915, she was the daughter of Wesley Allan and Jennie Maldwyn (Price) Stanger Sr. She grew up in Cranford, New Jersey and attended the College of William and Mary. She was a longtime resident of Hudson, Ohio moving, with her family, to Boxford, Mass., in 1965.

Following the death of her husband in 1968, she established a successful secretarial office services business in Topsfield from which she retired in 1987. Mrs. Langton was active in the Boxford community, serving as secretary for the Planning Board for a number of years as well as being a member of the Boxford Council on Aging and delivering "Meals on Wheels" for eight years. She had been involved in Girl Scouting in Hudson, Ohio, serving as both a Scout Leader and Association Chairman, and continued as a Scout Leader in Boxford.

She was President of the Women's Fellowship of the First Congregational Church of Hudson. She was also a Sunday school teacher for a number of years. Since moving to Boxford she has attended both the Topsfield and Boxford Congregational Churches, becoming a member of the Boxford church.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Taffy and Harvey Marron of Peabody, Mass.; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Beth Langton of Edgecomb; five grandchildren, Wes-ley, Margaret, and David Farmer and Ruth and Robert Langton; two brothers, Wesley and Natalie Stanger of Cranford, New Jersey, and Rhys and Leslie Stanger of Amelia Island, Florida.

A memorial service was held on Monday, October 25 at the First Congregational Church of Boxford, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Northshore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Boxford Council on Aging, Boxford, MA 01921.

Mrs. Marion M. Langway
1999-09-09

NORWAY - Marion M. Langway, 97, formerly of Bryant Pond, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

Mrs. Langway was born in Albany, ME, the daughter of the late Roy and Mattie (Thompson) Lord.

She attended the Waterford and Bridgton Schools.

Mrs. Langway worked several years for the Old Norway Laundry, and later as a Mill Worker and a store owner.

She married Raymond Langway in 1932. He died in 1977.

She is survived by one sister, Eva Linnell and her husband Leroy of South Paris; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Luella Mills of Bryant Pond, Gladys Spencer of Norridgewock, and Ruth Tyler of Bryant Pond and one half brother, Hayward Lord of Norway.

As requested by the family, no funeral services was held. Burial was at the Cole Hill cemetery in Woodstock. Arrangements were under the care of the Andrews Funeral Home in South Woodstock.

Mr. Alexander Carleton Leidy
1999-09-09

LEWISTON - Alexander Carleton Leidy, 70 of Englewood, Florida, died Saturday evening, September 4, 1999 at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Fort Kent, December 17, 1928, the son of Mason and Ella Austin Leidy.

He graduated from Presque Isle High School and the University of Maine with a degree in mechanical engineering. He had worked as a research engineer for Standard Oil, taught school for a short time and worked many years as a cost analyst for Stone and Webster Co., traveling all over the world.

Mr. Leidy faithfully served his country in the Army and was a member of the Catholic religion.

He enjoyed building things,clearing land and helping others.He will be remembered for all the people he helped and the many support groups he started.

He married Claire Berube, formerly of Norway.

Survivors include his wife of Englewood, FL; one daughter, Karen E. Leidy of Englewood, FL; two sons, John R. and his wife Denise of Greenwich,CT and Karl G. Leidy of Atlanta,GA; a stepson, Jerry Valecko and his wife Beth Ann of Butler, PA, and a stepdaughter Karla and Mark Valecko of Akron, OH; one sister, Helen Lennon of Sonoma, CA; one brother John (Jack) Leidy of Englewood, FL; seven grandchildren Audrey, Rachael and Alexander Leidy and Morgan, Kyler and Christian Valecko and Brandon Boling.

Private services and Interment were in Norway Pine Grove Cemetery, South Paris.

Arrangements were by Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, South Paris.

Richard B. Lewis
1999-10-14

Richard B. "Pie" Lewis, 91, of East Boothbay, died Thursday, October 7 at the Gregory Wing at St. Andrews Hospital.

Born January 24, 1909 in East Boothbay, he was the eldest son of Bennie C. Lewis and Sarah Spear Lewis. He attended local schools and as a young man worked with his father as a mason contractor. He was the proprietor of masonry contracting businesses in the Boothbay Region and in Pinellas County, Florida. During World War II he was a foreman on the construction of Navy Destroyers at the Bath Iron Works.

On July 28, 1928 he married Althea Harrington of South Bristol and they raised their family in East Boothbay. He was active in and a 50-year veteran of the Bayview Lodge of Masons, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Knights of Pythias. He and his wife wintered in Florida for over 40 years and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary before her death in 1993.

Surviving are his daughter, Suzanne L. Keene of Wolfboro, New Hampshire and Green Valley, Arizona; two sons, Alan D. Lewis of Waterville and East Boothbay, and Richard D. Lewis of Cape Elizabeth and Naples, Florida; nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 9 at the East Boothbay United Methodist Church with the Rev. Allan Wells-Goodwin officiating. Interment followed in the Oceanview cemetery in Boothbay.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Hospital, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538. Arrangements by Simmons, Harrington & Hall Funeral Home, Boothbay.

Miss Marjorie R. Lawrence
1999-11-11

NEW GLOUCESTER - Marjorie R. Lawrence, 72, of Outlet Road, New Gloucester, died Friday morning, November 5, 1999, at her home after a lingering illness. She was surrounded by her family.

She was born in Minot, October 17, 1927 the daughter of Leonard and Grace Leach Lawrence.

She attended school in Minot and graduated from Mechanic Falls High School.

She was employed as a secretary in area shoe shops and retired from Pineland Hospital.

She enjoyed reading, quilting, knitting, was a sports enthusiast and will always be remembered for her generosity.

Survivors include a brother, Earl Lawrence, of New Gloucester; a sister, Bessie Bryant of Minot; seven nieces and nephews Errol, Stanley and Gard Parker, Rodney Bryant, Judy Theriault, Sandra Childs, Robert Bryant and Leonard Lawrence; an aunt, Alice Hopkins of Corrina and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Weston-Chandler Funeral Home, Mechanic Falls with Interment in Riverside Cemetery, West Minot. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Sunday.

Edward John LeDuc
1999-12-03

Navy veteran; enjoyed hunting, sports

Edward John LeDuc, 45, of New Gloucester, died last Tuesday after an accident on the Maine Turnpike.

Mr. LeDuc, a truck driver for Hill-Rom Industries, was returning home after work when his truck collided with a flatbed truck near Exit 6A. The accident is under investigation.

Mr. LeDuc was born in Key West, FL, the son of Norman and Mary (Manning) LeDuc. He was educated in New Hampshire schools, and was a graduate of Bishop Brady High School, Class of 1973. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

On December 31, 1980, he married the former Florence Lane.

Mr. LeDuc worked for several years for the Poland Spring Bottling Co., and was currently employed as a service technician for Hill-Rom Industries. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racquetball, baseball and skiing.

He is survived by his wife, of New Gloucester; two sons, Benjamin and Jason; his father, of Colebrook, NH; two brothers, Gerald and Gerard and his wife Jane, all of Pittsfield, NH; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Norma) Konopka, of Loudon, NH, and Mrs. Paul (Doreen) Hewitt, of Manchester, NH; and nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral was held last Saturday at Dillingham & Son Memorial Chapel, Auburn.

Donations may be made to the Maine Cancer Society, 52 Federal Street, Brunswick, ME 04011.
