Gorham, Walter, Britton, MI

Age 73, died Thursday, December 9, 1999 at his residence. He was born December 5, 1926 in Belleville, MI, the son of William and Grace (Clark) Gorham. Mr. Gorham was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy where he served during WW II. In 1947, he married Shirley Hoekstra in Angola, IN. Walter was remarried in 1968 to Helen Swift in Las Vegas, NV and she preceded him in death. Mr. Gorham was employed as a contractor and worked with plaster building homes and other businesses. He had been involved with the American Legion and the V.F.W. Mr. Gorham will always be remembered for his love of fishing and hunting in his earlier years. Survivors include his three children, Sandra (Michael) Gregory, Douglas (Carmen) Gorham, Sheryl (Van) Maroney; three step-children, Dennis, Tina and Glen; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, David; his parents; and two brothers, William and Charles Gorham; and granddaughter, Priscilla Gunnels. A funeral service was held Sunday at Janowiak Funeral Home, Geer-Logan Chapel with Rev. Latha Ravi of the First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti officiating. Contributions in Mr. Gorham's memory may be made to American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Lenawee.

Aulds, Nancy Elizabeth, Pinckney, MI

Age 67, died Saturday, December 11, 1999. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3-4 p.m. with memorial service at 4 p.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home, Howell. 517-546-2800.

Lillie, Janice W., Ypsilanti, MI

Died December 10, 1999 after a long illness with Multiple Sclerosis at the age of 51. She was born June 30, 1948 in Savannah, GA to Sarah Williams Robinson and the late Barry Williams. Janice served two years in the Air Force. She then went on to pursue a Bachelors degree in Labor Relations and a Masters degree in Educational Leadership, graduating cum laude from Eastern Michigan University. She worked in the Michigan school system for 15 years, most recently as the Administrative Assistant for Manchester public schools. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Jerry Lillie Sr. of Ypsilanti; mother, Sarah W. Robinson of Georgia; six children, Lara (Charles) Chamberlin of Connecticut, Jerry (Chauntel) Lillie Jr. of Wisconsin, Jennifer Lillie of Blissfield, MI, Scott (Sonya) Lillie of Ypsilanti, MI, Wendy (Daniel) Jones of Ohio and Kristi Lillie of Ohio; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Quinnie Williams of Florida; and one sister, Millie Tigner of Georgia. Janice will always be remembered for her love of animals and her generosity toward her children and grandchildren. She had many friends and will be greatly missed. Viewing will be held Monday, December 13 from 6-9 p.m. at the STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel, Ypsilanti. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 14. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions on her behalf to the family.

Barstow, Jim Bart, Chelsea, MI

(Formerly of Ypsilanti)
Age 63, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 11, 1999 at St.Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born December 19, 1935 in Norway, MI, the son of Leonard and Lena (Whayne) Barstow. On August 14, 1974, he married Janet Thompson and she preceded him in death April 8, 1997. Bart worked for the Ford Motor Co., Saline Plant, as a tool & die welder for over 30 years. He was also a U.A.W. member. Survivors include his two daughters, Julianna (Neil) Geer of Pinckney and Terry (Dennis) Fleischauer of Florida; two grandchildren, Mercedes and Heather; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Cody and Kyle; his two sisters, Virginia (Van) Hopper of Florida and Joyce (Tom) Moore of Ypsilanti; three brothers, David (Linda) of Belleville, Leonard (Donna) of Houghton Lake and Raymond of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Mickey. The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at STARK FUNERAL SERVICE Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-9 p.m. Monday and 1-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Schwab, Andrew Andy, Ypsilanti, MI

Age 81, passed away on Saturday,December 11, 1999 at Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor. He was born November 18, 1918 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of George and Anna (Kosmo) Svav. Andy was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He came to Ypsilanti in 1944 and on April 16, 1944, he was married to Anna Marie Mary Bernardo in Ypsilanti, she survives. He worked for United Stove Company, Garwood Industries, Uniflex Corp and retired from Norris Industries in 1980. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #782, both of Ypsilanti. In addition to his wife, his survivors include two sons, Richard (Susan) Schwab of Rochester, MI and Andrew A.J. (Mariann) Schwab Jr. of Ypsilanti; two daughters, Diana McKenzie and Sheila (Steven) Law, both of Ypsilanti; 11 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Dolores Manzella of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother,Michael and one grandson, Christian. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 14, 1999 at Transfiguration Catholic Church with the Fr. Edmond Ertzbischoff as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John cemetery. Family will receive friends at the STARK Funeral Service, Moore Memorial Chapel 6-9 p.m. Monday where the Vigil Service will be prayed at 7 p.m.

Wiedmayer, Arthur A. (Artie), Saline, MI

Dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and loved oneof many, died suddenly at his home December 12, 1999. He was born October 10, 1912 to William and Christina (Hartman) Wiedmayer. He was a life long resident of Saline Twp and a 1932 graduate of Saline High School. On October 9, 1937 he married Edna Rothfuss and they were married for50 years before she preceded him in death on June 9, 1988. Artie lived his life outdoors. He was engaged in farming his entire life and he loved fishing, hunting and driving around the countryside. He was a member of the Farm Bureau, Tri-County Sportsman's Club and St. James Church, where he served faithfully all his life. Mr. Wiedmayer is survived by his son, William; his daughters, Marilyn (Kirk) Gordon and Jeanette (David) Ehnis; grandchildren, Carolyn (Steven) Winkler, Christina (Brett) Wiseley, Colleen (Todd) Clark, Andrew(Angela) Gordon and Alan (Jeanna) Gordon; great-grandchildren, Michael and Bob Winkler, Cody, Tyler, and Dylan Wiseley, Rachel Clark, Garrett, Brandon, Jacob and Julia Gordon. Other survivors include sisters-in-law, Alice (Raymond) Wiedmayer and Elizabeth (Waldemar) Rothfuss; his sister, Dorothy Collins; nephew, Willard Bredernitz; devoted friend, Betty Henry; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his siblings, Elsie, Erma, Clarence, Paul, Edwin and Raymond. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at 11 a.m. from St. James U.C.C. in Saline Twp. with Rev. Judy Jahnke officiating. Burial will be held in the St. James cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Church Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at ROBISON-BAHNMILLER Funeral Home, Saline where friends may call Tuesday 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from10 a.m. until the time of service.

Miller, Cynthia Ann, Saline, MI

(Formerly of Milan)
Age 52, died on Monday morning,December 13, 1999 at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor following her courageous battle with Lymphoma. She was born on November 11, 1946in Saline to Andy and Hazel (Legal) Miller. Cynthia was employed with University of Michigan Chemical Engineering Department where she formed many friendships. A loving daughter, sister and friend, she is survived by her mother, Hazel of Milan; her brothers and sisters, Andy (Julie) of Worthington, OH, Sandra of Dexter, Joe of Gerwood, AK, Joyce and Michael (Carolyn) of Milan; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Andy. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home, Milan with Rev. King Hanna of Marble Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Marble Park cemetery, Milan. Those desiring may make contributions to Cynthia's favorite charity, Make-A-Wish foundation or to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home where friends may call Tuesday 2-5 and 7-9.

Zanin, Stanley, Utica, MI

Kaiser, Karl, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 69, died December 14, 1999 at his residence. Karl worked for thirty years for the Chrysler Corp as a Tool & Die maker, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the Bethlehem United Church of Christ and United Auto Workers Union Local # 630. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Virginia Kaiser in 1980 and his second wife, Barbara Jean Kaiser in 1996. Karl is survived by daughter, Suzanne (Helfrich) Herendeen and her husband, Fred; grandchildren, Amy and James Herendeen; and a sister, Emma in Germany. He is also survived by numerous family and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 18 at MUEHLIG FUNERAL CHAPEL 403 S. Fourth Ave, Ann Arbor. 663-3375. Interment will be at the Bethlehem cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48105, or the American Heart Association PO Box 88-541, Chicago, IL 6680-1541.

Carpentier-Alting, Patricia F., Ypsilanti, MI

Patricia F. Carpentier-Alting, known to her friends as Pat, age 69, died at her home on Tuesday, December 15, 1999. She was born June 27, 1930 in Tientsin, China, the daughter of Neil A. and Ruth F. (Stevens) Gorman. On June 26, 1954, Pat married Hendrick J. Carpentier-Alting (Henry). She had received her BFA from Eastern Michigan University in 1972, and her MA in Applied Social Research from the University of Michigan in 1984. Pat was also a talented and prolific artist. She was a worldly, intelligent, fun, hard-living person who could always be counted on by her family and many friends. Pat enjoyed her work in Social Research. Pat retired from University of Michigan in 1988, where she had worked as a Researcher for 18 years. After she retired from the University of Michigan, she went to work for the United Autoworkers of America (UAW) as Research Project Director. Her husband and soul mate, Henry, preceded her in death in November of 1996. She will be deeply missed by her children, Catherine (Ross Albertson) Carpentier-Alting; Jennifer (Scott) Bivens, Neil (Andrea Marchyok) Carpentier-Alting; three grandchildren, Maia Carpentier-Alting, Scott Bivens Jr., and Jacob Albertson; one great grandchild, Brianne Nicole Carpentier-Alting; two brothers and a sister, Dennis Gorman, Jeff Gorman and Janet Graham. Memorial service will be held at the NIE FUNERAL HOME, 2400 Carpenter Rd, Ann Arbor on Saturday, December 18 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Arbor Hospice in Pat's name.

Levenson, Vera, Ann Arbor, MI

Age 81, passed away December 13, 1999 at the Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor. She was born on March 6, 1918 in Hamilton, Ohio as the daughter of Clara and Edward Ziepfel. She married Gordon Levenson on June 25, 1950 and has since resided in Ann Arbor. Vera graduated from Miami U (Ohio) and worked as an outdoor educator in Ann Arbor for many years. Together they raised a family of four of their own children plus countless others. Vera's home was a refuge for any in need. She was an active member of Old St. Patrick Catholic Church of Ann Arbor. Those who were fortunate to know Vera were inspired by her ethics of hard work, honesty, integrity, and enthusiastic life style. Gordy, her husband, stated that in 49 years of living with her, he had never heard her discredit another person, nor did he ever hear her utter a foul word. She is survived by her husband Gordy; daughter Rebecca of Ann Arbor; sons, Burt of Nairobi, Kenya, Mark and Tim of Kodiak, Alaska;and four grandchildren, Melissa and Gregg of Kodiak and Eli and Isaac of Kenya. There will be a memorial Mass at Old St. Patrick Catholic Church on Friday, December 17 at 5:30 p.m. Old St. Patrick Catholic Church is located at 5671 Whitmore Lake Rd, Ann Arbor Friends may meet with the family at the church beginning at 4 p.m. After the 5:30 p.m. Mass, all are welcome to enjoy a dinner held at the social hall located adjacent to the church. Contributions in Vera Levenson's memory may be made to the Arbor Hospice at 2366 Oak Valley Drive,Ann Arbor, MI 48103.

Gorrell, Donna Belle M., Paulding, OH

Age 76, died Tuesday, December 14, 1999 at the Paulding County Hospital, Paulding, OH. She retired in 1982 as a Food Service Manager for Barbour-Newberry Food Service at University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI after 39 years. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 17 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will be in Live Oak cemetery, Paulding. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 220 N. Williams, Paulding, OH. 45879.
