CHRIS R. NORTON

Sturgis

Formerly of Chelsea

Chris R. Norton, 56, of Sturgis, formerly of Chelsea, died March 19, 2005, at the Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, Ind. He was born Sept. 9, 1948, in Detroit, the son of Royce and Gerry (Walper) Norton.

Mr. Norton had resided in Sturgis for the past three years, coming from Chelsea. On Dec. 30, 1974, he married Judy Green in Roswell, N.M.

He was a minister and for the past three years was pastor at the Only Believe Fellowship Church in Sturgis, a church he started. Prior he was the assistant pastor at the New Life Tabernacle Church in Saline.

Mr. Norton also worked earlier as a maintenance supervisor at the Metaldyne Co. and was currently employed by the Smoll's Construction Co. in Sturgis.

He loved studying the Bible and he was an avid baseball fan.

Mr. Norton is survived by his wife, Judy; four daughters, Sarah (Jordan) Munoz of Toledo, Ohio, Anna Norton (fiance John Tyrrell) of Saline, Sharon (Charles) Lawrence of Westland and Emily (Mark) Bontrager of Denver, Pa.; one son, Sam Norton of Chelsea; and two grandchildren, Aviana Lawrence and Madison Munoz.

He also is survived by his parents, Royce and Gerry Norton of Laingsburg; and two sisters, Toni (Jim) Birney of Ventura, Calif., and Denise (Bob) Kin of Saginaw.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St., in Chelsea. The Rev. William Bailey of the New Life Tabernacle Church will officiate.

The family received friends Tuesday and yesterday at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. In addition, they will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Norton family.

JOSEPHINE IRENE HANNA

Saline

Formerly of Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Josephine Irene Hanna, 85, of Saline, formerly of Sierra Vista, Ariz., died March 12, 2005, at Evangelical Home in Saline. She was born Sept. 12, 1919, in Chelsea, the daughter of Edward W. and Averil (Harper) Fisk.

She married John G. Hanna in 1967 at Sharon United Methodist Church in Manchester. He preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1993.

Survivors include one stepson, King William (Anne) Hanna of Manchester; and eight nieces and nephews, Corky (Cathy) Boadway of Lewiston, LaNora Boadway of Lewiston, Mark (Sue) Boadway of Lewiston, James Buck of Grand Rapids, James Fisk of Latrobe, Pa., Susan Gump of Bradenville, Pa., Delores (Claude) McCombs of Pueblo, Colo., and Jo-El (Phil) Meadows of Traverse City.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harold and Wallace Fisk; and a sister, Elva Boadway.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Sharon United Methodist Church in Manchester. The Rev. Carter Garrigues-Cortelyou will officiate.

Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Home in Saline or Sharon United Methodist Church.

Arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel.

MICHAEL ANTHONY LINDNER

Dexter

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow, what a ride.'"

Michael Anthony Lindner, 53, of Dexter died peacefully at home March 13, 2005, with his wife by his side. Physical challenges limited his mobility but strengthened his mind, which was free to explore and experience life to the fullest.

Mr. Lindner looked forward to seeing what each and every day would bring. Traveler, adventurer, outdoorsman and lover of life, his gentle soul will be dearly missed by his wife, Karen, whom he still called his bride after nearly 20 years of marriage; his sisters, Liz (Peter) Wren, Kathy Bowdler and Nancy Lindner; brother, John Lindner; nephew, Danny Bowdler; and his special mother-in-law, Maude Brown.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl Lindner, and his mother, Pauline Lindner-Sperling.

Mr. Lindner valued friendships, especially with Chad and Debbie Klein; Fred and Maggie Smith; Chuck Smith; Tom and Leah Smith; and many others who are sharing this loss.

His doctors, John and Martha Ghuneim, added so much to his quality of life by their compassionate care, for which Mr. Lindner was forever grateful.

His kitty, Squeaker, also held a special place in his heart.

Born Jan. 3, 1952, into an Air Force family, Mr. Lindner lived in Japan and Washington, D.C., prior to moving to Ann Arbor. He was a licensed heating and refrigeration engineer, and worked for many years at the Campus Inn Hotel, as well as other properties in Ann Arbor.

After a disabling auto accident, he moved to the Florida Keys, where he did diving and fishing until his marriage to Karen brought him back to Ann Arbor.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. tomorrow at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad St., in Dexter. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. the day of the funeral.

Per Mr. Lindner's request, his ashes will be scattered at the American Shoals Lighthouse in the Florida Keys.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burns Park Players or the Purple Rose Theatre Co.

VIRGINIA KENDALL ROBERSON THOMAS

Dexter

Virginia Kendall Roberson Thomas, 86, of Dexter died March 2, 2005, in Dexter. She was born July 15, 1918, in Pikeville, Tenn., the daughter of John LaFayette Roberson and Anna Ida (Swafford) Roberson.

Mrs. Thomas married Charles A. Thomas and he preceded her in death in September 1989.

In 1936, Virginia attended business school in Chattanooga, Tenn., and was employed by the Tennessee State Health Department for several years prior to her marriage.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her children, Patricia Thomas (Gene Tristan) of Dallas, Ann (Gary) Hockenberry of Dexter, Charles J. (Stephanie) Thomas of Dearborn Heights and John Thomas of Detroit; eight grandchildren; three brothers, James Samuel Roberson of Pikeville, Tenn., Thomas Young (Julia) Roberson of Bloomingdale, Ill., and Maxie (Barb) Roberson of Pikeville; and five sisters, Mary Gene (Blake) Roberson of Pikeville, Helen (Bob) Lang of Dunlap, Tenn., Margaret Sue (Dub) Record of Huntsville, Ala., Nada (G.B.) Meyers of Pikeville and Johnnie Roberson of Pikeville.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Grace, Dorinda and Elizabeth; a sister-in-law, Mildred Roberson; and two brothers-in-law, Forest Irwin and Byron Starnes.

A funeral was held March 5 at Borek Jennings Funeral Home's Hamburg Chapel. The Rev. Matt Hook officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dexter United Methodist Church Youth Missions.

ETHELYN F. GILROY

Chelsea

Ethelyn F. Gilroy, 92, of Chelsea died March 1, 2005, at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born July 3, 1912, in Prescott, the daughter of George Wesley and Annie D. (Osborne) Gilroy.

Miss Gilroy graduated from Central High School in Bay City in 1931. For more than 27 years, she served as church secretary at the First United Methodist Church in Royal Oak, where she was a member.

Survivors include one nephew, Jerry L. (Baraba) Jones of Harbor Springs; one niece, Jean Ann Bridges; two grand-nieces, Rebecca Fegely of East Greenville, Pa., and Shontyl Shupps of Huber Heights, Ohio; three great-grandnieces; and one great-grandnephew.

She was preceded in death by a brother, S. B. Gilroy, and a sister, Evelyn Jones.

A funeral was held Monday at the Chelsea Retirement Community Chapel. The Rev. Beth Foster officiated. Private burial was at Oakview cemetery in Royal Oak.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Retirement Community.

Arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

HARMA MARILYN FLOOD

Chelsea

Marilyn Harma Flood, 82, of Chelsea died March 2, 2005, at Chelsea Retirement Community. She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Kalamazoo, the daughter of Peter and Lena (Vandenburg) Van Hout.

Mrs. Flood moved to Chelsea in 1997, coming from Sault Ste. Marie She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Sault St. Marie.

She was a career teacher and was treasurer of Chippewa Mackinaw Area Retired School Personnel for more than a decade.

Mrs. Flood was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star, queen of the North No. 82. She also was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts.

Mrs. Flood and her husband, Bill, enjoyed square dancing and they traveled extensively.

Mrs. Flood married Stanley Lemon Sept. 18, 1945, in Galesburg, and he preceded her in death in February 1980. She married William Flood June 18, 1982, in Rudyard, and he survives.

She is also survived by four sons, Ted (Martha) Lemon of Columbus, Ohio, Robert (Sharon) Lemon of West Chicago, Dan (Angie) Lemon of Traverse City and Glen (Robin) Lemon of Pickford; two stepsons, Brad (Pam) Flood of Sault Ste Marie and Greg Flood of Ionia; and a stepdaughter, Gretchen (Rick) Brammer of Grosse Pointe Woods.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Van Hout.

A funeral was held March 5 at Chelsea Retirement Community. The Rev. James Hilliard officiated. Burial was at Cook cemetery in Pavilion Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Parkinson's Foundation or the Heritage Foundation at Chelsea Retirement Community.

Arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

RICHARD WILLIAM KEEZER

Las Vegas, Nev.

Formerly of Munith

Richard William Keezer, 69, of Las Vegas, formerly of Munith, died Friday, March 4, 2005, in Las Vegas. He was born July 19, 1935, in Chelsea, the son of Dale and Clarice (Wright) Keezer.

Mr. Keezer was a member of the First Congregational Church of Chelsea. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.

Survivors include his son, Joseph (Kum Cha) Keezer of Las Vegas; brothers, James (Sue) Keezer of Saline and Robert (Helen) Keezer of Minnesota; sister, Nancy (George) Merkel of Chelsea; grandchildren, Loni and Dale; great-granddaughter, Michelle; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Darrow Keezer, in 1995; his sister, Doris Heller; his brother, Donald Clark; and both parents.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Church of Chelsea.

Local arrangements were by Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea.

NORA JEAN ALBER

Manchester

Nora Jean Alber, 84, of Manchester died March 3, 2005, under the loving care of her family and Hospice of Michigan. She was born March 2, 1921, in Samoa, Calif., the daughter of Theodore and Nellie (Price) Quigley.

She married Allen A. Alber Nov. 13, 1942, in Manchester and he preceded her in death in 1977. She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian Alber, in 1993; granddaughter, Heather Alber, in 1983; one sister and four brothers.

Mrs. Alber was a member of the bridge club and Manchester Historical Society. She volunteered for many years at Chelsea Community Hospital. She also worked for many years as a clerk at the Manchester Post Office.

Mrs. Alber is survived by her children, William (Darlene) Alber of Manchester, Keith (Pam) Alber of Manchester and Linda Alber of Chelsea; grandchildren, Debbie (Dave) Seegert, Jill (Jimmy) Smith, Laura (Brent) Woods, Billy Alber (Rachel Fleck), Shelly Alber-Lobbestael, Carrie (Tom) Neff, Stephen Alber (Jay Keyes), Rebecca, Bradley and Jason Alber; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Mooneyham, Lizabeth and Adam Collins, D.J. Smith, Victoria Woods, Daniel, Alexandra, Austin and Samuel Lobbestael, Shantelle, Brianna, Dylan and Dakota Neff, and Courtney Alber.

She is also survived by two sisters, Kay Egeler and Alice Bergman; and two brothers, Leonard (Jan) Quigley and Charles (Eileen) Quigley.

A celebration of Mrs. Alber's life was held Tuesday at the Emanuel United Church of Christ in Manchester. The Rev. Gary Kwiatek officiated.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Michigan or the Manchester Fire Department. Envelopes are available at the Borek Jennings Funeral Home's Jenter Chapel in Manchester.

SHERRY L. FLETCHER

Chelsea

Sherry L. Fletcher, 46, of Chelsea died March 5, 2005, at the University of Michigan Hospital. She was born Dec. 16, 1958, in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Jess and Bea (Salyer) Fletcher.

Surviving are one brother, Larry (Gayle Murphy) Fletcher of Chelsea; one sister, Sandra (Bart) Calloway of Chelsea; one aunt, Rose (Dub Carpenter) Risner of Chelsea; two nephews, Doug Fletcher and Liam Calloway of Chelsea; and one niece, Anji Boyette of Lakeland, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside services were held at Oak Grove cemetery in Chelsea.

Memorial contributions may be made to Spina Bifida Association of America.

Arrangements were by Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea.
