Anton "Tony" Thone

HARDWOOD - Anton "Tony" Thone, 85, of Fond du Lac, formerly of Hardwood, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, in Fond du lac.

Tony was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Stephenson, son of the late George and Julia (Charlier) Thoune.

Tony served with the U.S. Army during World War II where he received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, Two Bronze Campaign Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge.

He married the former Evelyn Messner on June 24, 1967, in Colorado.

Tony worked as a farmer and woods worker for many years, he was a crane operator for Kingsford Chemical for several years and retired in 1986 from the Briggs and Stratton Corp. in Milwaukee where he was a machinist. Following his retirement, he moved to Fond du Lac, Wis.

Tony was a member of the Felch-Breen Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his son, Robert (Sharon) Thone of Hardwood; a daughter, Edith (Gene) Baumann of Wild Rose, Wis.; a stepson, Dale Oakes of Menominee.; four grandchildren, Steve Thone of Randville, Dale (Joelle) Thone of Aberdeen, S.D., David (Becky) Thone of Menasha, Wis. and Kathy (David) Piasini, of Channing; a step-granddaughter, Judy (Brian) Fulkerson of Rockford, Ill.; 12 great-grandchildren, Steve and Doug Thone, Ashley, Nathan, Tyler and Megan Thone, Samantha, Alicia and Joshua Thone, Jennifer and Kristi Piasini and Michael Fulkerson and many nieces and nephews including Mary Miklauz, Charles Messner, Pat Bowen and Michael Messner.

Tony was preceded in death by his first wife, Orva; a brother, Philip Thoune and a sister, Beatrice Seaman.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Foster City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Fr. Dick Mroz will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Foster City cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve, Dale and David Thone, David Piasini, Brian Fulkerson and Robert Bauer.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.

Robert W. Larson

Iron Mountain - Robert W. Larson, 85, of White Birch Village, died Tues. Jan. 30, 2007 at ManorCare Health Services. He was born on March 13, 1921 in Iron River, the son of the late C. Victor and Mayme (Soderquist) Larson.

Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945. He was a sergeant and received a Purple Heart. Bob was on a transport ship that was bombed in the Pacific. He survived, floating in the ocean for three days surrounded by sharks while holding on to his wounded buddy.

As a youth, Bob was a caddy at Pine Grove Country Club. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for many years, retiring in 1977. He also worked for Izzo's, installing awnings and railings. Bob enjoyed working and worked hard to afford anything and everything for his children. Bob also took pleasure in spending time at his camp and taking his family camping. Together they traveled to forty-six states. He will be fondly remembered for kidding people.

Bob was an active member of First Covenant Church. He was a former trustee at the church and was active in the upkeep of the building. He was fundamental in the plans for the gym addition to the church.

He married June Hansen in Iron Mountain on Aug. 24, 1947. The couple enjoyed over 59 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, June, his sons Butch (Jean) Larson of Reese, MI, Kurt (Sherri) Larson of Spread Eagle, Calvin (Cathy) Larson of Iron Mountain, and Bill (Wendy) Larson of Iron Mountain, his daughter Bobbie Ann (Peter) Flaminio of Iron Mountain, his brother Paul (Ruth) Larson of Iron Mountain, 13 grandchildren April, Scott, Brian, Brent, Thad, Erik, Cody, and Conor Larson, Andy, Tony, and Alec "Weeg" Flaminio, Christine Heitung, and Erin Pease, and 7 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Marvin "Merp" and John "Jack" Larson.

Visitation will be Sat. from 10am-12:30pm at Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Sat. at 1pm at First Covenant Church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

Bob's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dorothy Reichardt

IRON MOUNTAIN - Dorothy J. Reichardt, 85, of Iron Mountain died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, at New Care Nursing Home in Crivitz, Wis.

She was born on Feb. 4, 1921, in Marinette, Wis., the daughter of the late Forrest and Lucinda Mae (Kile) Mitchell.

Dorothy graduated from Wausaukee High School. She was a longtime resident of Iron Mountain where she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and its woman's auxiliary. She was a volunteer at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center and a Red Cross blood donor. She was a member of the T.O.P.S. Club and enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Dorothy married Robert Reichardt on April 18, 1943, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1994.

She is survived by four children, David (Nancy) Reichardt of Pound, Wis., Mary Ann Reichardt of Cazenovia, Wis., Carol (Neil) Annear of Iron Mountain, and Jim (Janet) Reichardt of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Mildred (Norman) Smith of Wausaukee, Wis. and Susan (Chuck) Kent of Oshkosh, Wis.; three brothers Robert Mitchell of California, William (Virginia) Mitchell of Milwaukee, and Fred (Bonnie) Mitchell of Illinois; eight grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son William and many brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain. Rev. Debi Thomas will officiate.

Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

The Tondin-Ross and Freeman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bernice "Bunny" Eisold

Kingsford - Bernice "Bunny" Eisold, 83, formerly of Kingsford, died Wednesday July 4, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. Bunny was born on Nov. 24, 1923 in Iron Mountain, the daughter of the late Earl and Christina (Peronto) Schuls.

She owned and operated a drapery business in Milwaukee for thirty years. Bunny was an excellent interior decorator and seamstress. She enjoyed Crochetting, quilting, golf and bowling.

Bunny was preceded in death by two sisters, Audrey Schuls and Beatrice Bryngelson.

She is survived by her brother, Leo (Nancy) Schuls of Iron Mountain. A sister, Lavern Vincent of Iron Mountain, Brother in law, Ray Bryngelson, special friend June Randall and many nieces and nephews.

Private services were held. Burial was in the Quinnesec cemetery.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with the funeral arrangements.

Catherine Gazza Stenfors

IRON MOUNTAIN - Catherine Gazza Stenfors, 86, of Vulcan, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Pinecrest Medical Facility in Powers.

She was born on Nov. 16, 1920, in Vulcan, the daughter of the late Joseph and Ann (Masty) Bubloni. She has been a lifelong resident of Vulcan.

Catherine married Joseph Gazza on June 30, 1938, and he preceded her in death in 1952. She was a member of St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan.

Catherine's family was her life. She loved nature, especially feeding the birds and animals.

Survivors include her son, Joseph (Susan) Gazza of Green Bay, Wis.; her daughter, Kathleen (Mike) Bezotte of Kenosha, Wis.; nine grandchildren, Laurie, Terri, Bob, Cherri, Vickie, Joe, Sandie, Dean, and Nicole, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by, her son Richard Gazza in 2003; eight brothers, John, Paul, Albert, Mike, Steve, Joe, Henry and George Bubloni and by three sisters, Mary Mendini, Julia Federspiel and Bernice Ziebart.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain and Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Vulcan.

The funeral service will be held at noon Friday at the church. Fr. James Roetzer will offer the Mass of the Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pinecrest for the loving care they gave Catherine.

William J. Robert

Norway - William J. Robert, 69, of 1608 Jansen St. Norway, died Sat. June 30, 2007 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Dec. 18, 1937 in Reedley, CA, the son of the late John and Hazel (Holderman) Robert.

William graduated from Reedley High School. He lived in California, Washington, and Montana, before moving to this area in 1973. He was a truck driver for Smeester Trucking and a dispatcher and shop manager for KSR trucking.

He enjoyed working on cars and watching Nascar. Bill was a gifted musician, playing the trombone and singing. He was a member of a barbershop choir. Bill spent a lot of time working with wood, cutting it and chopping it.

He married Carol Carter in Youngstown, OH in 1984. She preceded him in death in Dec. of 1989. He married Becky (Gagnon) LaCourt in Dec. of 1990 in Iron Mountain.

Bill is survived by his wife Becky of Norway, his children Gail (Doug) Topjian of Norway, Jim (Rebecca) Robert of Olympia, WA, David Robert of Arizona, Ron Nesbitt of Yigo, Guam, Terry (Jennifer) Carter of Niagara, Tom (Veronica) Carter of Ocala, FL, Tim Carter of Arab, AL, Kathy (Ron) Kish of Lansing, MI, Kurt (Melissa) LaCourt of Columbus, IN, Kristy (John) Kelly of Marquette, Debbie (Tim) Blucher of Olympia, WA, Kathy (Dennis) Taylor of Olympia, WA, Laurie (Dave) Sodeman of Struthers, OH, Jennifer (Joe) Williams of Niles, OH, Melany Vorass of Olympia, WA, Jamie Vorass of Bloomington, IL, Mark Vorass of Jacksonville, FL, and Margot Vorass of Tacoma, WA, two sisters Mary (Pat) Manning of Denver, CO, and Hazel Cecil of Seattle, WA, two brothers Richard (Elena) Robert of Fresno, CA, and Mike (Reese) Robert of Anchorage, AK, 26 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Mandy Robert and his mothers-in-law Lena Johnson and Joyce Gagnon.

Visitation will be Tues. from 3-6pm at Maranatha Assembly of God Church in Kingsford. Funeral services will be at 6pm Tues. at the church. Rev. David Wilton will officiate. Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home with arrangements.

Catherine Jane "Kaye" Cavaiani

IRON MOUNTAIN - Catherine Jane "Kaye" Cavaiani, 80, of Iron Mountain, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 10, 1926, in Detroit. She graduated from the Dominican High School in Gross Pointe, Mich.

Kaye married Clifford Orzehowski on June 21, 1947. He preceded her in death in 1978.

On Feb. 5, 1982, she married William F. Cavaiani. Kaye was a devout member of St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for 12 years. She was a member of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women's Club for more than 50 years and a member of the Dickinson County Pilot's Association. Kaye loved music. She owned Cliff's Music Store in Iron Mountain with her late husband for many years until his death in 1978. She also was an avid bridge player.

She is survived by her husband, William F. Cavaiani; her children, Kelly (Nick) Davis and children, Abigail and Alec, Jackie (Jeff) Minton and children, Lakota and Hunter, William L. (Bonnie) Cavaiani and children, Cheri, Cheli, and Jeff, Don (Candy) Cavaiani and children, Lisa, Dawn Marie, Angela, Paul, and Rick, and Randy (Maureen) Cavaiani and children, Erin and William; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Timothy DeConinck and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and Phillip DeConinck and one sister, Margaret Kullen.

Friends may call on Thursday, from 10:30 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.

Burial will be in the Norway cemetery .

Flowers are being accepted or in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the University of Michigan Medical Development Fund, Catherine J. Cavaiani, 301 E. Liberty Suite 400, Ann Arbor, Mich., 48104-2251

Olive L. Hess

Florence - Olive L. Hess, 95, of Florence, died Fri. June 29, 2007 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. She was born on Nov. 7, 1911 in Ackley, WI, the daughter of the late Louis and Ella Belle (Vaughn) Petzoldt.

Olive loved spending time with her family. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading. She had a green thumb and was a great cook. Olive worked as a caregiver at Elaine's Foster Home.

Olive married Harry Hess on Dec. 20, 1940 in Crystal Falls. He preceded her in death in August of 1955.

She is survived by six children Judy Schabel of Aurora, Karen (Paul) Ganley of Kingsford, Bill (Dorothy) Hess of Florence, Cheryl McNeil of Iron Mountain, Douglas (Mary) Hess of Iron Mountain, and John (Julie) Hess of Iron Mountain, 20 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Olive was preceded in death by three brothers Robert "Fritz", David, and Louis Petzoldt, one sister Bernice Hicks, two sons-in-law Bruce Schabel and David McNeil, one grandson Paul Schabel, two granddaughters Rebecca and Jane Schabel, and two great grandchildren Rick Miller and Nova Wolfskill.

Visitation will be Tues. from 4-6pm at Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 6pm Tues. at the funeral home. Rev. Doug Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora cemetery.

Lyle P. Zablocki

KINGSFORD - Lyle Phillip Zablocki, 81, a longtime resident of Kingsford, entered the gates of his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Dickinson County Healthcare Facility in Iron Mountain.

Lyle was born on May 10, 1926 in Kingsford, son of the late Paul and Stella (Loyd) Zablocki. After graduating from Kingsford High School in 1943, Lyle enlisted in the Army Air Corps in December of 1943, at the age of 17. Corporal Zablocki served his country as an aerial gunner in the 313th Bombardier Wing of the Army Air Corps in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged with the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal in November of 1946. After the service, Lyle attended a design engineer school and for 41 years he worked for Lake Shore as a design engineer, retiring in 1990.

On November 25, 1948 Lyle was united in marriage to Mildred 'Midge' Sadowitz and raised a beautiful family of eight children. She preceded him in death in 1986.

Lyle was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Some of Lyle's many hobbies included sports, playing cards, reading, casinos, hunting and fishing. Lyle coached his six son's little league teams (D.A.V. and New York Life) for ten years, and was instrumental in developing the Lodal baseball field. During hunting season, Lyle would give his grandsons money to play poker and then would try to win it all back.

Lyle is survived by his eight children: six sons, Lyle M. (Sharon) of Marquette, Tim M. (Toni Rae) of Granite Bluff, Allan L. (Jan) of Kingsford, Stephan P. (Kathy) of Littleton, CO, Tony (Becky) of Chester Springs, PA and Guy P. of Grand Rapids, MI; two daughters, Mary Ann (Karl) Kindschi of Portage, WI and Susan K. (Rob) Carlson of Marquette; 18 grandchildren, Kara, Kristen, Anne and Neal Kindschi, Mindy Rae (Derrick) Gamburg, Maegan, Alex, Abbi, Christopher (fiance Jessica), Casey, Cyle, Emily (Tom) Ellenbocker, Maureen and Fred Mitchell, Courtney and Kevin Carlson, and Lillie and Cooper; four great grandchildren, Marchelle, Mykayla, Ethan and Stuart. He will be fondly remembered by his special friends Dean and Mary Geronomi, Nat Meyer, and Angie Raffin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd and sisters, Pauline Cheetam and Florence Beauchamp.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 7:30pm at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. Parish prayers will be recited on Friday at 7:30pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10am at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Father Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Lyle's grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory.

The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the many wonderful people that helped Lyle make the transition from his home on earth to his Heavenly Father's home with dignity and grace. These people include the staff at Evergreen Assisted Living, DCH Hospice, Father Joe Gouin, Dr. Valdez and staff at Maryhill Manor.
