Ann King
KINGSFORD - Ann P. King, 87, of 1852 Mary's Way, Kingsford, went home to the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Ann was born on Oct. 20, 1917, in Iron River, daughter of the late John and Ethel (Sensiba) Purcell.
She graduated from Iron River High School in 1935, and went on to attend St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, Ill., where she earned her degree as a registered nurse.
She married Wilbert King on March 28, 1940, and enjoyed 59 years of marriage with him before he preceded her in death on July 28, 1999.
Ann worked at the Stambaugh General Hospital until 1966 when she moved to the Iron Mountain area to work at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, and the Iron Mountain V.A. until her retirement in 1980. Ann was a very dedicated and compassionate nurse; she truly loved being a nurse.
She was a member of the Iron Mountain Women's Club and the NARFE Group. Ann enjoyed reading and knitting in her spare time, however her favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family, she loved nothing more than having her family around her. She was a truly devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by three sons, Sandy (Pam) King of Iron Mountain, Thomas (Kari) King of Seattle, Wash., Gerald (Sue) King of Mercer Island, Wash.; a daughter, Mary Joan (Marvin) Saltz of Kingsford;
a sister, Betty Roberts of Glenview, Ill.; a brother-in-law, Anthony Woods of Dearborn, lower Michigan; a son-in-law, Vincent Trenkle of Howell lower Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Matthew (Dawn) Trenkle, Michael (Jennifer) Trenkle, Mark (Jennifer) Trenkle, Kevin Trenkle, Mark Saltz, Katherine Saltz, Anthony and Elizabeth King, Aaron and Evan King, Lauren King; four great-grandchildren, Haley and Brendan Trenkle, Zachary Trenkle and Zoe Dee Freeman
Ann was preceded in death by a son, Jared Joseph; a daughter, Dee Ann Trenkle; a brother James Purcell, and a sister Mary Joan Woods.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at St. Mary and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Fr. Daniel Zaloga will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be at Resthaven cemetery in Iron River. Pallbearers will be Matthew Trenkle, Michael Trenkle, Mark Trenkle, Kevin Trenkle, Mark Saltz, and Anthony King.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Mildred Sparpana
IRON MOUNTAIN - Mildred J. (Ellingson) Sparpana, 83, of 317 E. Hughitt St., Iron Mountain, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at her present home, Freeman Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.
She was born Dec. 6, 1921, in Escanaba, daughter of the late Hans and Abbie (Follo) Ellingson. Mildred was a 1940 graduate of Iron Mountain High School and lived in the area for most of her life.
She married Vance T. Sparpana on Feb. 22, 1947, in Iron Mountain. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2002. Mildred served in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of World War II.
She was a volunteer at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for 19 years. Mildred was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church where she was a member of the ladies guild, taught Sunday school and was elected to vestry of the church. She enjoyed camping, babysitting her grandchildren and spending time with family.
Mildred is survived by a son, Gary (Suzanne Fleury) Sparpana of Iron Mountain; two daughters, Marian (Butch) Hiatt of Kingsford and Susan (Chris) Scheibel of Grafton, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Tony Sparpana, Beth (Matt) Tappy, Melissa Hallada, Eric (Heather) Hiatt, Brent (Jamie) Hiatt, and Sarah, Staci and Nicole Scheibel; one great-grandson, Lucas Tappy; and several nieces, nephews, and her extended family at Freeman's.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Smits; three sisters, Margaret Croci, Virginia Craden, and Marian Hughes; and three brothers, Jack, Jim, and Pat Ellingson.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Fr. Charles Piper will officiate.
Burial will be in cemetery Park.
Pallbearers will be Butch Hiatt, Eric Hiatt, Brent Hiatt, Chris Scheibel, Gary Sparpana, and Mark Ellingson.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with arrangements.

Gail Flugstad
BREITUNG TOWNSHIP - Gail I. Flugstad, 56, of W8111 Old Carney Lake Road, Breitung Township, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
Gail was born Oct. 17, 1948, in Iron Mountain and has been a resident of this area her entire life. She was a 1966 graduate of Iron Mountain High School. Gail attended Suomi College and received her licensed practical nurse training at Northern Michigan University. She has been a part of the nursing staff and surgical floor nurses team at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain for more than 30 years.
She married Robert Flugstad on Sept. 22, 2001, at First Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain.
Gail was an active member of First Lutheran Church. She belonged to the Phoebe Circle and served as confirmation director and youth leader at the church for many years. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and traveling.
Gail was preceded in death by her father, Paul Dishnow; a brother, Dean Dishnow; and a grandson, Akili Malik Edwards.
She is survived by her husband Bob, her mother, Irene Dishnow of Iron Mountain; her children, Frank Jerks of Duluth, Minn., Paul (Jeanne) Jerks of Green Bay, Wis., Leslie Edwards of Sheboygan, Wis. and Bethany (Todd) Glynn of Green Bay, Wis.; her brothers, Jay (Kathy) Dishnow of Spread Eagle, Wis. and Bruce (Diane) Dishnow of Saline, lower Michigan; her grandchildren, Sophie Jerks, Mackenzie and Malcom Jerks, Jessie Benet Edwards, Devante and Joemar Jerks and Tiger Glynn; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Gene Wickman will officiate.
Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory to the Northwoods Airlifeline.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with arrangements.

John Gregory
MILWAUKEE - John C. Gregory, 75, of Milwaukee, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iron Mountain.
He was born Aug. 22, 1930, in Chicago, son of the late Ervin and Lorraine (Bourque) Gregory. John was a lifelong resident of the Milwaukee area and graduated from Shorewood High School in 1948. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
John enjoyed history, fishing, and vacationing in the Iron Mountain area. He was an avid sheepshead player.
He is survived by one sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Mellon of Iron Mountain; several nieces and nephews, Lisa (Thomas) Nelson, Monica (Steve) Terrian, Dr. Michael (Lori) Mellon, Robert (Jean) Mellon, all of Iron Mountain, and Dr. Peter (Cassie) Mellon of Mt. Airy, Md. and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Private graveside services will be held at cemetery Park. Rev. Robert Mueller will officiate.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the funeral arrangements.

Grace Peterson
KINGSFORD - Grace H. Peterson, 96, of 404 Hemlock St., Kingsford, died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at ManorCare Health Care Service in Kingsford.
Grace was born June 29, 1909, in Oconto Falls, Wis., daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Rumpf. She had been a resident of Kingsford for most of her lifeand was a 1927 graduate of Kingsford High School.
She married Lloyd Peterson on June 30, 1928, and he preceded her in death in 1977.
Grace was devoted to her family and loved children. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Lloyd (Marcia) Peterson of Kingsford and Gene (Christine) Peterson of Kingsford; two daughters, Beverly Winters of Kingsford and Karen Wesoloski of Kingsford; a sister, Anita (Zygmund) Bonkowski of Iron Mountain; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; several great -great-grandchildren; a special niece, Claudette (Terry) Tourville; and many other nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by two daughters, Carole Minella, in 1968, and Donna Lempinen, in 1991; a son, James Peterson in 1998; a grandson, Jeff Peterson; two sisters, Ida Kennedy and Jeanette Witt; five brothers, Francis, Leo, Ted, Eugene and Paul Rumpf, and two son-in-laws, Larry Lempinen and Duane Winters.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of the Christian burial.
Burial will be in the Quinnesec cemetery.

John Cuggino
KINGSFORD - John R. 'Jack' Cuggino, 81, formerly of 205 N. Elizabeth St., Kingsford, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
He was born Dec. 12, 1923, in Ladysmith, Wis. He was the son of the late Steven and Catherine (Hillker) Cuggino and has been a resident of this area his entire life.
Jack married the former Shirley Anderson in 1950, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 1997. Jack worked for Bob's Homes for many years. He enjoyed hunting and playing cribbage.
He is survived by two sons, John (Debra) Cuggino of Kingsford and David Cuggino of Iron Mountain; a brother, Edward (Nancy) Cuggino of Missouri; three sisters, Ethel (Dick) Gulp of Pennsylvania, Helen Gear of Florence, Wis. and Grace Walters of Iron Mountain; eight grandchildren, Delores, James, Kari Jo, Casandra, Sabrina, Michael, Nathan and Daniel; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Larry Cuggino of Kingsford.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra and five brothers and sisters.
Private family services are being held.
The family has entrusted the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Homes of Iron Mountain and Kingsford with the funeral arrangements.

Charlotte Frecchio
NORWAY - Charlotte Evelyn Frecchio, 75, of 403 Mine St., Norway, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
She was born on June 13, 1930, in Negaunee, the daughter of the late William and Clara (Penhale) Smail.
Charlotte graduated from Negaunee High School in 1948. She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949-1950. She was a longtime resident of Norway and was the manager of the Norway Community Credit Union, retiring in 1986. Charlotte was a member of the Amvets and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She enjoyed playing the organ, playing Scrabble, and working on puzzles. She and her sisters belonged to a local card club for more than 50 years.
Charlotte lived in Arizona for a time, but always considered the Upper Peninsula to be God's Country and she always came back here.
She was a resident of Pinecrest Medical Care Facility for the past seven years. While at Pinecrest, she served as the resident council president and entertained the other residents by playing the organ.
Charlotte will always be remembered for her powerful natural sense of humor and for her immense love for her family.
She is survived by her children, Jacqueline Johnson of Escanaba, Peggy (Harry) Miller of Mesa, Ariz., and Peter Frecchio of Norway; one brother, Lowell (Dawne) Smail of Ishpeming; three sisters, Carol Trudell of Negaunee, Marge Hodgins of Kingsford, and Mary Jane Gendron of Iron Mountain; five grandchildren, Ryan (Sunday) Miller of San Francisco, Lt. Melanie Miller of Honolulu, and Heidi Miron, Greta Arnt, and Eric Vogelmann, all of Escanaba; five great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
Private family services will be held.
Burial will be in the Norway Township cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's Association.
