Jeffrey S. Kriesel
Jeffrey S. Kriesel, 87, Crosby, died July 17, 2002, at his home in Crosby.
He served on PT Boat 285 during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae; two sons, Kenneth and Gary Kriesel; a daughter, Karen Erickson; and five grandchildren.
A sister, Nevada Doyle, died earlier.
Services were at St. James Lutheran Church in Minneapolis with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Jacob ‘Jack’ Lundgren
Jacob “Jack” Lundgren, 78, Longville, died Monday, July 16, 2002, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center.
Arrangements are with Willim-Northland Funeral Home in Pine River.

Glenn Bennett
Glenn Bennett, 80, Crosslake, died May 8, 2001, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.
Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.

Joyce E. Callender
Joyce Elaine Callender, 70, Crosslake, and Hobe Sound, FL, died Friday, April 27, 2001, in Stuart, FL.
She was born Oct. 18, 1930, in North St. Paul to Edwin and Filisty (Chavie) Hanson. Her family began vacationing in the lakes area when she was younger. She attended schools in St. Paul. She married Robert Kise and they lived in St. Paul. She was a homemaker. She worked and volunteered at St. JohnÕs Hospital. Her husband died on Dec. 9, 1985. She married John Callender on Nov. 27, 1987, in Wayzata. They moved to Crosslake. They spent their winters in Texas and more recently, in Florida. She was an active member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church of Crosslake.
Survivors include her husband; four sons, Brian Kise, Edina, David Kise, Andover, John Callender II, Shorewood, and Steven Callender, Brooklyn Park; two daughters, Sandra Rasmussen, Missoula, MT, and Alison Mooney, FL; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her first husband, Robert Kise, and her parents, died earlier.
Services were May 4 at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake with the Rev. Paul Fruth and the Rev. Dennis Hoffman officiating. Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.

Pearle H. Curtis
Pearle Helen Curtis, 92, Longville, formerly of Floodwood, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Woodrest Nursing Home in Walker.
She was born March 16, 1909, in Lakeview, MI, to Lois and Grace (Brotschi) Springer. She moved to Minnesota and married George Mann. He died and she then married Jack Pulscher. He died and she then married Ace Curtis. He died in the early 1980s.
Survivors include a son, William Mann, Longville; a daughter, Helen Wallace, Longville; and a brother, Arthur Springer, Minneapolis.
Her three husbands; a brother, Henry; and three sisters, Toots, Lela and Zelphia, died earlier.
Graveside services were Friday in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Floodwood.
Arrangements were with Libbey Funeral Home in Grand Rapids.

Robert L. Kunz Sr.
Robert L. Kunz Sr.
Robert L. Kunz Sr., 63, Lake Shore, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at St. JosephÕs Medical Center in Brainerd from cancer.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra; a daughter, Lynne Fleming, Monticello; a son, Robert Kunz Jr., Salt Lake City, Utah; and a brother, Ed Kunz, Paynesville.
A son, Greg Kunz, died earlier.
Private services were held May 4 at Brenny Funeral Home with burial in Camp Ripley.

Hazel M. Nelson
Hazel Marie Nelson, 82, Portland, Ore., died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, in Portland, Ore.
She was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Leslie, AR. She married Marvin C. Nelson in 1943 in Rapid City, S.D. They moved to Minneapolis in 1951. After her husband died, she moved to Fifty Lakes in 1978. She moved to Portland, Ore., in February.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Lindemann; and five sisters, Mae Perry, Helen Pottinger, Lorraine Teichen, Charlene Curl and Ruth Boze.
A son, Randy; a daughter, Janine; and her husband died earlier.
Services were at Emily Wesleyan Church.
Memorials are preferred to Emily Wesleyan Church, P.O. Box 153, Emily, MN 56447-0153.
Arrangements were with Albin Chapel in Minneapolis.

Dorothy M. Tucker
Dorothy Marie Tucker, 98, Pine River, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd.
She was born Nov. 19, 1902, in Nashua, IA, to William M. and Irene I. (Hake) Butler. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1921. She attended Iowa State TeacherÕs College and taught school until she married Amos Emerson Tucker on July 21, 1926, in New Hampton, IA. After living in the Waterville and Waseca areas they retired and moved to Pine River in 1965.
Survivors include a son, Wallace, Ionia, IA; two daughters, Jean Jungkans, Millington, TN, and Charlotte Nielsen, Palm Harbor, FL; seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Her husband, three daughters, Lela, Rilla and Carol, and a grandchild, died earlier.
Services were Friday, May 4, at Pine River Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Foote officiating with burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Pine River.

Elsie L. Turner
Elsie L. Turner, 79, Pequot Lakes, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at home.
She was born Jan. 25, 1922, in Ledyard, IA to Hans and Gertrude (Hutchison) Beck.
Survivors include her husband, Tyra; two sons, Clarence Turner, Nisswa, and Ralph Turner, Pequot Lakes; a daughter, Lois Holsapple, Pequot Lakes; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a stepgreat-great-grandchild; and three brothers, William Beck, Sweacity, IA, Orrin Beck, Elk River, and Alvin Beck, Denison, IA.
A granddaughter, a sister, Anna Johnson, and a brother, Kenneth Beck, died earlier.
Services were May 5 at Church of the Nazarene in Brainerd with Pastor Michael Lynch officiating with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cass County.
Arrangements were with Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd.

Orval L. Volden
Orval L. Volden, 84, Isle, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Maddock, N.D., to Sivert and Eva (Peterson) Volden. He graduated from high school in Penn, N.D. He and his brother farmed in the Devils Lake, N.D. area. He entered the Army in 1941 and served in the 164th Infantry. He was wounded in the Battle of Guadalcanal and was awarded the Purple Heart and Asian Pacific Campaign Ribbon. He was discharged in 1943. He married Elsie L. Kline on Dec. 26, 1943, in Penn. They farmed in the Devils Lake area until 1954. They moved to Spring Valley in 1995 and owned and operated a Dairy Queen. In 1962 they moved to Rochester and he worked for IBM until retiring to Wahkon in 1980. They moved to Isle in 1989. He lived in Alamo, TX during the winter. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Isle and a former member of the Isle VFW and Lions Clubs.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Volden, Rochester, Howard Volden, Rochester, and Rick Volden, Chicago; a daughter, Jean Westermann, Longville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Holsten, Palisade, and Vivian Sheets, Eddyville, IA.
Services were May 5 at Faith Lutheran Church in Isle with the Rev. John Lundberg officiating with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Agnes C. Agre 1911 - 2004 Granite Falls
Agnes C. Agree, 93, died December 15, 2004 at the Bethany Good Samaritan Care Center in Brainerd.
Agnes was born on Nov. 10, 1911, in Sacred Heart., the daughter of Nels and Martha (Kronlokken) Engen. She grew up in the Sacred Heart area. After her schooling she taught in rural schools for eight years. She also taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.
On Nov. 16, 1941, she was united in marriage to Arbie Agre. Agnes and Arbie were able to share over 50 years of marriage together. She was a member of Granite Falls Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aide and Circle. She worked as an aide in the English Resource Center in the Granite Falls High School for five years. After moving to the Bethany Good Samaritan Care Center she was involved in the Auxiliary and attended worship services, communion and bible study there.
She is survived by her son, Doug (Sue) of Nisswa; brother Millard (Marlys) of Golden Valley; daughter-in-law, Barb (Denny) Hanson; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, Nels and Martha; her husband, Arbie in 1993; son Neil; and brother Elmer.
Memorial services were Dec. 22 at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, Minn., with Pastor Bob Knutson officiating. Interment will be in the spring in Hillcrest Cemetery at Granite Falls.

James R. Engen 1938 - 2004 Brainerd
James Roger Engen, 66, Brainerd, died late Tuesday evening, Dec. 14, 2004, at his home.
James was born on Oct. 14, 1938, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Howard and Bonnie (Mohan) Engen.
He is survived by his wife Lo of Brainerd; sons Donald W. of Deerwood and Hartwick A. of Cass Lake; daughter Amber L. Schlegel of Pequot Lakes; step-son William J. Tomson of Baxter; mother Bonnie Engen of Pequot Lakes; brother Donald H. of Crosslake; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard A. Engen.
Interment will take place at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery at Camp Ripley, Minn. Memorial services will be planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
