Lottie Lewandowski

Services for Lottie Lewandowski, 90, of St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope were Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Brooklyn Center.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

She died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003 in New Hope. She was born March 22, 1913 in Michigan.

Mrs. Lewandowski was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

She is survived by her son, Melvin (Joan) of Maple Grove; daughter, Alexandra (Eugene) Dubay of Pigeon Forge, Tenn.; brother, Harry Brzyski of Michigan; grandchildren, Jennifer Bundy and Jessica Wall; great-grandchildren, Sara and Katey Bundy.

Mrs. Lewandowski is preceded in death by her husband, Alphonse.

Robert Brandt

Services for Robert Brandt, 81, of Champlin were Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at Advent Lutheran Church in Maple Grove.

Mr. Brandt is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Lorraine; loving daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Art Boller; much-loved grandsons, Nicholas, Adam and his fiancé Valerie Bukstein; brothers, Walter of Bloomington and Leonard of Fridley; sister, Gertrude Thayer of Minneapolis; also many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Memorials preferred to North Memorial Hospice. Private family interment was at Sunset Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Alvin Franz Retzlaff

Services for Alvin Franz Retzlaff, 84, were Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.

Mr. Retzlaff died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Heritage Club of Greenwood Village, Colo. following a long battle with leukemia. He was born July 27, 1919 in New Ulm, to F.H. and Mary (Fuller) Retzlaff. After graduating from St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota, he practiced pharmacy for 40 years.

He was united in marriage to the late Jeanne Marie Martel in Minneapolis May 22, 1951. They lived in Minneapolis suburbs until moving to Delano in 1964. In his retirement, Mr. Retzlaff was a regular volunteer at Waconia Hospital.

He is survived by his 105-year-old mother, Mary Retzlaff, his son and wife, Michael and Catherine; daughter and husband, Diana and Martin Efta; grandchildren, Chanel (Efta) Hall, Janet Efta, Nicholas Efta and Christopher Retzlaff and five great-grandchildren.

Angeline Laura Pennington

Services for Angeline Laura Pennington, 89, of Delano, were Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.

Rev. Michael Miller officiated and interment was in Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Daron Maas, Barry Maas, Michael Andrew and Skip Andrew.

Mrs. Pennington died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at the Delano Healthcare Center. She was born in Neilsville, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Laura (Walport) Faber. She was married to Clarence R. Pennington. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughter, Yvonne Maas; grandsons, Daron (Kathy) Maas and Barry (Kelly) Maas; great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Emma Maas; great-grandson, Rylan Maas and sister, Sr. Mary Andrew.

John Milo Alden

Graveside services for John Milo Alden, 97, of Delano, were Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at the Delano Public Cemetery.

Rev. Jeff Harter officiated.

Mr. Alden died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2003, at Haven Homes in Maple Plain. He was born Jan. 29, 1906 at Massland, Ohio, the son of Milo N. and Daisy (Holston) Alden.

He was preceded in death by wife, Mary; granddaughter, Laurie Paul Nebel; parents, Milo and Daisy Alden and sister, Ruth Alden.

He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John and Carol Alden of Oaklawn, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Richard Paul of Aurora, Ill. and Mary and Bruce Larson of Delano; grandchildren, J. Michael and Kim Alden, JoAnn and David Michalsky, Greg and Patti Paul, Karin and Roy Rodriguez, Julie Rodine, Scott Rodine, Debye and Darrol Ike, Anthony and Amy Rodine, Elizabeth and Ted Nourse, Diane and Ed Papenhause, Tom Horbach, Doreen and Tom Sullivan and Paula and Mark Anderson; 25 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Marjorie Alden of California and special friend, Debra McGowan.

Julie A. Burgeson

Services for Julie A. (Dahle) Burgeson, 57, of Maple Grove were Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Brooklyn Park.

Mrs. Burgeson died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, after a courageous seven and half year battle with lung cancer.

She was a graduate of St. Louis Park High School and the U of M. She was a caring leader with Weight Watchers for 20 years.

Mrs. Burgeson is survived by her loving husband, Tom; children, Matt (Angela), Ann, Mike (Christine); step-children Ben and Andrea; mother, Dorothy; grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kyle; step-grandchildren, Mara and Maxxe; sister-in-law, Cindy; and niece, Megan.

Mrs. Burgeson is preceded in death by her father, Cliff; and brother, Dave.

Marian C. Bryer

Services for Marian C. Bryer 91, of Howard Lake, formerly of Minneapolis, were at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home.

Deacon Maynard Warne and Deacon Donald Fiedler officiated at the service. Marlene Mohwinkel was the organist a the service. Interment was at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Mrs. Bryer died Sept. 16 at the Howard Lake Good Samaritan Home. She was born Nov. 1, 1911, in Minneapolis, daughter of John and Rose Smith Swanson. She was raised in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada. She was united in marriage to Harold H. Bryer June 18, 1932, at Stewart, Minn.

Mrs. Bryer is survived by her children Germaine (Richard) Mundhenk, Dallas, Texas; and Kenneth (Carole) Bryer, Monticello; grandchildren Cindy (Pat) Wielinski, Tom (Marcia) Mundhenk and Andrea Bronstad; grandson-in-law, John Lindenfelser; five great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Swanson, Fort St. John, British Colombia; and sister, Delores Johns, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; also other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold on Dec. 10, 1991; and sisters, Florence McMillan and Fern Rooke.

Clemens Dargis

Services for Clemens "Clem" Dargis, 85, of Champlin were Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Anoka, with Rev. Dale Ehrman officiating.

Mr. Dargis died Sept, 21, 2003, at the North Residential Hospice Home in Brooklyn Center. He was born Aug. 30, 1918, in Rogers.

Mr. Dargis was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his son Ronald (Paula) Dargis of Elk River; daughter, Jan (Doug) Erickson of Champlin; special friend Lorraine Keniston of Champlin; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brothers, Erwin (Phyllis) Dargis of Anoka, Elmer (Kathy) Dargis of Cedar; sisters, Delrose Pilarski of Montrose, Leona Johnson of Anoka, Rosalyn (Richard) Bohn of St. Louis Park; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Ellen (Goodrich) Dargis; and parents, Louis and Elizabeth (LaPointe) Dargis; brothers, Donald and Richard Dargis; and sisters, Irene Madson and Viola O'Keeffe.

Interment was at the Champlin Cemetery.

William Leonard "Bill" Diem

Services for William Leonard "Bill" Diem, 61, of Delano, were Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delano.

Rev. Michael Miller officiated and private family committal services took place the following day at Calvary Cemetery in Delano.

Mr. Diem died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was born April 30, 1942 to Leonard and Margaret (Heinen) Diem in Minneapolis.

He was raised in Delano, where he attended St. Peter's Catholic School and graduated from Delano High School. After high school, he attended St. Cloud State University and the Minnesota School of Business before going to work in his grandfather's hardware store, Heinen Hardware. Eventually, Mr. Diem would take over the family business. In addition to this, he went to work for the Delano Post Office, a position he had for 17 years. In 1991, he sold the hardware store and spent more of his time at the post office.

Mr. Diem served as chairman of the Fourth of July Committee for 30 years, and continued to work with the committee for the past six years. In addition to this, he worked with the police commission and the state baseball tournament committee. In 1990, Mr. Diem was honored as Delano's Citizen of the Year.

Mr. Diem was preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Margaret (Heinen) Diem. He is survived by wife, Sylvia; daughters, Kris (Thom) Howden and Natalie (Steve) Diem Lewis; sons, Brian (Pam) Diem and Tim (Toni) Diem; grandchildren, Britta Diem, Ian and Jenna Howden and Billy and Paul Diem and mother-in-law, Valeria Topel.

Wehrle Berry Godfrey

Services for Wehrle Berry Godfrey, 89, of Maple Grove were Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Church of St. Joseph of Medicine Lake.

Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Mr. Godfrey is survived by his wife, Lillian; children, Dr. Brendan B. (Kathryn) Godfrey, Dr. Douglas A. (Patricia) Godfrey, Theresa M. (James) Doran, and Mark K. (Sara) Godfrey; grandchildren, Helen, Brendan, Elizabeth, Ryan, Alanna, Shawn, Andrea, Joseph, Amber, Mark II, Colin and Austin.

Joanne D. Habstritt

Services for Joanne D. Habstritt, 66, of St. Cloud were Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud.

Rev. Geoffrey Fecht officiated and interment was in Assumption Cemetery.

Mrs. Habstritt was born July 14, 1937, in St. Cloud, the only child of Ralph and Dorothy (Misho) Hempel. She graduated from Moose Lake High School and attended the College of St. Scholastica. She married Ronald A. Habstritt Oct. 22, 1958, in Holy Angels Catholic Church in St. Cloud. She was a religious educator at parishes in Waconia, Mound, Richfield, Delano and St. Cloud.

She was involved with the Girl Scouts for more than 20 years. She was an Avon representative for eight years in Delano. She was also a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Habstritt will always be remembered for her role in church activities, especially as eucharistic minister, lector and her commitment to the Legion of Mary. She was an active volunteer at the Stearns County Jail library, Heritage Nature Center, RSVP Reader's Theater and the River Oaks Hospitality House. She enjoyed refereeing the White Sands Regatta and had memberships in Cloudy Town Sams and Coachman RV Clubs.

She is survived by husband, Ronald; children, Mary Habstritt (Gerald Weinstein) of New York City, Carol Gewerth of Redwood Falls, Minn., Susann (Mark) Zimitsch of Edwardsville, Ill., and Major Thomas Habstritt, U.S. Army, Newport, R.I.; grandchildren, Mark Gewerth and Jessica, Jonathan and Jaclyn Zimitsch. She was preceded in death by parents.

LaVerne H. Haugen

Services for LaVerne H. Haugen, 82, formerly of New Hope were Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Crystal.

Interment was at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope.

Mrs. Haugen died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 in Maple Grove. She was born Dec. 21, 1920 in St. Cloud.

She is survived by her children, Bob Haugen, Mike (Kathleen) Haugen, Kathleen Horgan, and Jerry (Joanne) Haugen; brother, Ernest Schack; sister, Jackie Hacket; grandchildren, Jenny, Julie, Jeff, Melissa, Meagan, Tony, Jared, Kelli, Lindsey, Casey, Lincoln and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Allison, Logan and Mallory; and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Haugen is preceded in death by her husband, Robert.

Albert Hermanson

Services for Albert Raymond "Ray" Hermanson, 55, were Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at The Catholic Church of Mary, Queen of Peace in Rogers.

Rev. Mark Moriarty was the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Martin's Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Ron and Wayne Nierenhausen, Peter Hedden, Doug Federly, Brian Kottke and Gary Angrimson.

Mr. Hermanson died Sunday, Sept. 7, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 29, 1948, in Minneapolis the son of Albert and Kathryn Jangula Hermanson.

Mr. Hermanson was a self employed trucker (Hermanson Trucking Co.) and formerly owned and operated Good Sense Sales.

He enjoyed his winter home in Tallahassee, Fla., and motorcycles.

He is survived by sisters, Nancy (Donald) Nierenhausen and Helen (Larry) Angrimson; nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, an aunt, and uncle, numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Kathryn Hermanson.

Jack M. Hoppe

Services for Jack M. Hoppe, 78, of Victor, Mt. were Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Missoula, Mt.

Pastor David Cloute officiated.

Mr. Hoppe died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at the home of his brother in Gardiner, Mt. He was born in Livingston, Mt. Dec. 31, 1924, the son of Walter Paul and Elsie Carolyn (Nies) Hoppe.

He was baptized Easter Sunday April 12, 1925. Mr. Hoppe spent his boyhood on the Stephens Creek Ranch. He received his education at Jardine and graduated from Gardiner High School in Montana. He entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1943 to 1945. He received the Bronze Star and Citation and spent 274 days behind enemy lines in Germany scouting for the infantry.

He worked with his family in Gardiner as a guide and packer. He also worked for the National Park Service and the Forest Service.

On Aug. 15, 1952, he married JoAnn Laura Loeffler from Greenfield, Minn. The couple was blessed with four children.

In 1956 he began his professional driving career, driving for several companies, the last being with Gene Tripp, Jr. and Pepsi for 17 years. He lived in various places but moved to the Bitterroot Valley in 1972.

Mr. Hoppe was a member of the American Legion, Eagles and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in 1962 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by parents and a brother.

He is survived by wife, JoAnn of Victor; children, Walter Hoppe of Gray Eagle, Minn. Jackie (Kenneth) Nielsen of Apple Valley, Michael (Roxanne) Hoppe of Delano and Carolyn (John) Steinbrenner of Boise, Idaho; brother, Wayne (Pat) Hoppe of Gardiner; sisters, Jean Foster of Livingston, Mt. and Donna Mae Palmer of Gardiner; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
