Richard Brandt, 81, of Madelia, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Madelia.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Marvin Tebben of Aberdeen, S.D.; three grandchildren; and brothers, James "Popcorn" of Rochester and Joseph of Elgin, N.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife Arline.
He was born March 7, 1920, in Olivia to John and Emma (Kubesh) Brandt. He graduated from Olivia High School in 1938. He worked for Robin Hood Flour Company in Fairfield, Iowa, until serving in the National Guard in 1941. He married Arline Sires on Dec. 5, 1942, in Fairfield, Iowa. In 1944 they moved to Newton, Iowa, where he worked in sales for Winpower Manufacturing until 1949 and then a short time for Coates Manufacturing in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1950 they moved to Madelia where he established Brandt Supply Company, selling farm equipment. Arline died in June of 1982. He married Elizabeth Kroeger on Jan. 16, 1984. He was a member of St, Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Madelia American Legion Post, and Madelia Rotary Club. He served on the Madelia City Council in the late 1950s.
Memorials are preferred to the Madelia Community Hospital.

Willard A. Hulke, 78, of 1501 S. Valley St., New Ulm, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Courtland, with burial in the church Cemetery, rural Courtland.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm, and continues one hour before the service Wednesday at the church.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Jayne Hulke of New Ulm, Robert and Karen Hulke of New Ulm; son Richard Hulke of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Rachel and James Harbarth of Gaylord, Nancy and Bernie Reinhart of rural New Ulm, Lois and Randy Trump of Faribault and Linda and Bill Youngblom of rural Lafayette; 15 grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Ardella Hulke of Courtland; sister, Lillian Rasmussen of New Ulm; sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Richard Koehler of Hanska; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edgar and Sally Lueders of Faribault, Leonard and Phyllis Lueders of Austin, Willard and Karen Lueders of Sheboygan, Wis., and Martin and Carole Lueders of Fridley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irma Hulke on Sept. 4, 2000; a sister in infancy; brother-in-law, Clifford Rasmussen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Martha and Marvin Wegner; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Lueders.
He was born July 23, 1922, at in Courtland Township, Nicollet County, to Emil and Edna (Bode) Hulke. He married Irma Lueders on June 20, 1947, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Faribault. They farmed in rural Courtland and in rural New Ulm,. They retired from farming and moved into New Ulm in 1992. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and held various church offices. He was on the Brighton Township Board. He was a lifetime member of the Farmers Union and a member of the AMPI resolutions board. He was active in Habitat for Humanity, Courtland Lions and as Courtland 4-H leader.

Calvin Kotval, 69, of Redwood Falls died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Redwood Falls with burial in Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home and at the church Wednesday, one hour prior to services.
He is survived by his wife, Millie; children and their spouses, Craig and Jolene of Eagan, Kelly and Jon Sampson of Redwood Falls, and Sandra and Michael Foley of Minnetonka; six grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Jim Jaros of St. Louis Park; and many relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by son Brad and a granddaughter.
He was born June 9, 1931, in Vesta Township to John and Litta (Jones) Kotval. He attended country school near Vesta, Echo Public School and Redwood Falls High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953. After his discharge, he returned to the Vesta Area, He married Mildred Rust on May 8, 1954, in Vesta. They lived in Redwood Falls. He was employed at Anderson Implement, Lyle's Electric and Warrior Manufacturing. He was a member of the V.F.W. and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Pearl E. Ludewig, 100, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sleepy Eye, with burial in Japanese Martyrs Catholic Cemetery, Leavenworth.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. A parish prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Delmar C. Peterson, 63, of Gibbon, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at his home in Cornish Township, Sibley County.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Augustana, Lutheran Church, Gibbon, with burial in the Clear Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Cornish Township.
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. today and 8-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Arrangements are handled by Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Dorrie Peterson and friend, Jim Fleischer of Minneapolis, Denise and Greg Wickenhauser of Gibbon, Darren Peterson of Brooklyn Park, Daryl and Marilee Peterson of Gibbon, Dawn Peterson of Gibbon; four grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jean and Ron Markham of Atherton, Australia, Joyce and Paul Ryder of Bloomington, Lori and Dwayne Cowden of Northfield; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Fridolph and Doris Peterson; and a brother, Allan in infancy.
He was born on March 6, 1938, in New Ulm to Fridolph and Doris (Swenson) Peterson. He graduated from Gibbon High School in 1956. He attended the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus studying agriculture and then returned to the Peterson family farm. He married Dorothy Lieske on Aug. 24, 1963, in Arlington Township. He served on the Clear Lake Lutheran Church board and its cemetery board. As a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church, he was active on the board, served as treasurer, and sang in the church choir and men's choir. He also sang with the Sibley County Chorale. He was treasurer for the Cornish Township Board.

Frederick (Fred) Rotschafer, 78, of Worthington, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Worthington Regional Hospital.
Services are 10 a.m. today at Grace Community Church in Worthington.
Bensons Funeral Home, Worthington handled arrangements.
He is survived by sons, John, Jeff; daughter, Diane; seven grandchildren; and three brothers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1996.
He worked for Mongtomery Ward in New Ulm and Worthington. He was a car salesman in Worthington.

Pearl Ludewig, 100, of Sleepy Eye, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Japanese Martyrs Cemetery, Leavenworth.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10 a.m. Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye. There will be a parish prayer service at 6 p.m. today at the Funeral Home.
She is survived by her son, Sylvester "Bud" Ludewig of Sleepy Eye; daughters and sons-in-law, Irene Houghtaling of Carmichael, Calif., Delrose and Wilbert Seifert, Delores and Robert Gulden of New Ulm, LaVerna and George Berg of New Ulm; son-in-law, Robert Berg of New Ulm; 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Dolores Seifert of Sleepy Eye.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Urban; daughter, Marie in infancy; son and daughter-in-law, George and Inez Ludewig; daughter, Marion Berg; son-in-law, Paul Houghtaling; brothers, Fred and George; and sister, Minnie Huiras.
She was born on Dec. 10, 1900, in Hanska to George and Mary (Wellman) Mickelson. She attended school in Leavenworth. She married Urban Ludewig on Jan. 7, 1919, in Leavenworth. They farmed in Stark Township. He died Feb. 7, 1976. She lived on the farm with her son, Bud until the fall of 1991 when she moved to the Sleepy Eye Care Center. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.

Herman J. Vossen, 83, of Windom, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Windom Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 3-9 p.m. today and 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Windom. A scripture service will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the church, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.
Arrangements are with Anderson-Schmidt Funeral Home, Windom.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children and their spouses, John of Plymouth, Mary of Santa Rosa, Calif., Pat of Forestville, Calif., Joseph and Beth of Prescott, Wis., Dr. Dennis and Debbie of Forestville, Calif., and Paul and Marisa of Sebastapol, Calif.; son-in-law, Maurice Ellison of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; siblings, Margaret Vincent of White Bear Lake, Leo and Lucille of Watkins; Richard and Marie of Hutchinson; Bernard and Teresa of Waite Park, and Elmer and Julia of Cold Spring; and a sister-in-law, Julia of Englewood, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jean Ellison; and two brothers, Frank and Eugene.
He was born May 2, 1917, to John R. and Kathrine (Statz) Vossen in Watkins. He attended school in Watkins. He married Dorothy Bulfer in September 1940. He was Cottonwood County Extension Agent for 25 years and was Area Extension Livestock Specialist at the Southwest Experiment Station in Lamberton before retiring in 1980.

Lillian Distad, 99, of Franklin, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at the Fairfax Community Nursing Home.
Services will 2 p.m. Friday, at the Palmyra Covenant Church, Palmyra Township, rural Hector, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Hughes Funeral Home in Hector, and at the church Friday, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by her husband, Julian Distad of Franklin; daughter and son-in-law, Margie and Reggie Cotton of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Troy Brovold, Sean Brovold and Matthew Cotton; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy; a son, Kenneth; and three brothers and five sisters.
She was born Dec. 25, 1911, in rural Hector to Carl and Emma (Peterson) Lundstrom. She graduated from Hector High School She received a teaching degree from St. Cloud State. She taught in several area rural schools. She married Carl Julian Distad on Aug. 28, 1947, at Palmyra Covenant Church, Palmyra Township, Renville County, Minnesota. They farmed in Camp Township. She was a Sunday School teacher and active in Ladies Aid.

Kenneth Amsden, 53, of Comfrey, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at New Hope Lutheran Church, Comfrey, with burial in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Comfrey.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-9 a.m. Friday at Sturm Funeral Home, Comfrey, and at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his wife, Chris of Comfrey; sons and daughters-in-law, Rob and Lesa of Sioux Falls. S.D., Travis and Jennifer Johnson of Comfrey, Chuck Amsden and fiancee Nancy Nybo of Lamberton; daughter, Shandel of Comfrey; one grand daughter; parents, Leslie and Neola of Comfrey; brother, Mike of Cross Lake; sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Randy Haseleu of Springfield; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son in infancy; brother, Gary in 1998; and his grandparents.
He was born Oct. 22, 1947, in Comfrey to Leslie and Neole (Schunk) Amsden, He graduated from Comfrey High School in 1965. He served with the U.S. Army until Nov. 1967. He married Elizabeth Holman in 1974. They divorced In 1979. On May 8, 1982, he married Christine Johnson in Comfrey. He was employed by G. M. Construction of Lake Crystal. He belonged to New Hope Lutheran Church, Comfrey.

Raymond Sanchez, 59, of Inver Grove Heights, died Monday, April 30, 2001.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Paul, with burial in Riverview Cemetery, St. Paul.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today at West Funeral Home, West St. Paul.
He is survived by wife, Jessie; children, Gina and Ron Thatcher of Carson City, Nev., Raymond Jr. and Theresa of Rosemount, Pamela and finance Andrew Scalia of West St. Paul, Jesse and fiance Marti Kowarsch of West St. Paul, Lisa Meinzer of New Ulm, Navada and Jeremy McGee of Maplewood; six grandchildren; a brother, Steve; sisters, Luci and Reuben Tejeda, MaryAnn and Joe Valtierra, and Franner and Jose; a sister-in-law, Virginia Dill of New Ulm; a brother-in-law, William Dallmann of New Ulm; a mother-in-law, Geraldine Dallmann of St. Peter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonia and Steven; and brothers Nicholas and Jesse.
He was a graphic arts instructor at St. Paul Technical College for 20 years. He retired in 1997.

Donna Schoen, 72, of 1117 S. Broadway, in New Ulm died Wednesday, May 2, 2001 at her home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with entombment in the Lakewood Mausoleum in Minneapolis.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday and 7:30-10 AM Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Schoen of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Joei Harty and Roberta and Rick Miller all of New Ulm; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Doreane and George Gobler of Eau Claire, Wis.; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Delores Kumferman and Dave and Clarice Kunferman, all of Eau Claire, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Justin Harty; and a brother in infancy.
She was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Eau Claire, Wis., to George and Lucille (Bell) Kunferman.
She graduated from Eau Claire High School in Eau Claire, Wis. On Feb. 8, 1947, she married Robert Schoen in Eau Claire, Wis. They moved to New Ulm in 1961. She worked in the bakery at Randalls in New Ulm until her retirement. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Elfrieda Engel, 83, of Mankato, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mankato, with burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park.
Visitation is noon until the service Monday at the church.
She is survived by a sister and her husband, Selma and Ray Kratzke of North Mankato; a brother and his wife, Butch and Babe Engel of Nicollet; a brother-in-law, Fred Fogg of Alexandria; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.
She was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Nicollet Township, Nicollet County, Minn., to Herman and Christine (Bode) Engel. She graduated from Nicollet High School and attended Business College in Minneapolis. She was a bookkeeper and auditor for Montgomery Ward, Bretts, and Sears. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.
Memorials are preferred to Our Savior's Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Mankato Mortuary in charge of arrangements.

Paul Wagner, 67, of 1104 S. Payne in New Ulm, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm with burial in the Sanborn City Cemetery in Sanborn.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8:30 a.m. Monday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Evan Rogers of Tyler, Brenda and David Drill of Courtland; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Roshelle Wagner of Beaufort, S.C.; grandchildren, Alek Wagner, Hannah Wagner, Sophia Wagner, Connor Drill, Caitlyn Drill and Regis Rogers; and sister, Roberta Ann Bancroft of Escondito, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew.
He was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Jackson to Lewis P. and Gertrude (Pietz) Wagner. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1952 from Mankato State in 1958. He married Avis Jensen in June of 1959 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Jackson. He worked as a page in the 1959 legislative session., In October 1959, he began working as the first probation officer for Brown and Watonwan counties. He retired in 1991. He had been a Boy Scout leader. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm and a member of A.A.L.
