Noel I. Babcock, 71, of Madelia and formerly of Omaha, Neb., died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at Madelia Community Hospital.
Services will be at a later date at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead, S.D., with burial in the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D.
Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Celina and Roger Mosser of Madelia; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Cindy Babcock of Omaha, Neb., and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Babcock in April 2001; son, Clayton Babcock; and grandson, Ivan Babcock.
He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Wall, S.D., to Clayton and Claire (Stomley) Babcock. He attended school in Spearfish, S.D. On Aug. 20, 1952, he married Norma Miles in Iowa. He served in the United States Army. After he returned home, he drove truck for a mobile home company. Then he worked for Boeing as a dispatcher with the Minute Man Missile Project in Rapid City, S.D., moving often with the company throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. He managed restaurants in Lead and Gordon, Neb. and owned and operated a restaurant in Deadwood, S.D. In 1981 they moved to California to manage apartments, retiring in 1993 and returning to Omaha. He moved to Madelia in July 2001. He was a member of the Black Hills Pioneer Society.

Hedwig Seifert, 105, formerly of 421 S. State St., in New Ulm, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at Divine Providence Chapel in Sleepy Eye. There will be a combined society rosary starting at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, which will be followed by a parish prayer service at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm. Visitation continues at 10 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm.
Arrangements are being handled by the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the St. Mary's Parish, Way of the Cross, Brown County Historical Society, New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS) or the Alexander Berghold Memorial.

Dennis J. 'Denny' Tauer, 63, of 1027 N. Franklin, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm veterans organizations.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Barbie Tauer of Renton, Wash.; three grandchildren; sister, Jean Tauer of New Ulm; aunt, Elaine Keim of rural Hanska; and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born Sept. 15, 1937, in New Ulm to John A. and Frances A. (Keim) Tauer. He graduated from Cathedral High School in New Ulm. He served in the National Guard. He worked for a few years at American Artstone in New Ulm, and he had been a part-time helper at Holy Trinity Middle School in New Ulm. He was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Council and Seifert - Bianchi American Legion Post No. 132.

Muriel Weber, 90, of 1119 N. German St., New Ulm died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001, at Sleepy Eye Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today and continues 7:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Christian Mothers Society will pray the rosary at 4 p.m. today at the Cathedral, and there will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She is survived by nieces Odral Machtemes of St. Paul, Linda Dahlin of Woodbury, and Mary Lou Meidl of St. Paul; nephews Waldon Current and his wife, Maxine of Alexandria, Dale Current and his wife Joann of Bertha, and Russell Dahlin, of Silt, Colorado; and by many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rudolph "Rudy" Weber, on Oct. 9, 1984; a daughter at birth; brother, Lee Current; sister, Dolores Dahlin; and by two sisters in infancy.
She was born Sept. 18, 1910, in Sleepy Eye to Marion and Nettie (Tramm) Current. She married Rudolph "Rudy" Weber on Oct. 25, 1945, at Holy Trinity Parish House in New Ulm. She worked at Stork Brothers Produce, Eibner's Cafe, and for the Cathedral Lunch Program. She retired in the early 1980s. She was inducted into the Women's Bowling Association, Hall of Fame in 1997. Since April 4, 2001 she had been a resident of the Sleepy Eye Care Center. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the Christian Mothers Society, a past member of St. Monica's Society and the Catholic Daughters. She belonged to the Seifert-Bianchi American Legion Auxiliary.

Orville H. Schmidt, 75, of Willmar, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Willmar, with burial in the Cloverleaf Memorial Park Cemetery, Willmar.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home in Willmar, and at the church Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
He was born June 20, 1926, in Amboy to Paul and Marie (Altenburg) Schmidt. He attended St. John's Lutheran School near Willow Creek. He farmed in rural Amboy and Bertha before moving to Willmar in 1976, where he was employed for 19 years by Willmar Manufacturing. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Helen Freese, 74, of Mankato, died Sept. 8, 2001, at Immanuel-St.Joseph's Hospital, in Mankato.
There will be no visitation.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.
She is survived by a son, John Rassieur and Kathy Burk of Woodbury; daughter, Sally and husband Galen Spinler of Ellendale; stepsons, Mark and wife Valerie Freese of Eagan, Thomas and wife Ranne Freese of Magnolia, Texas, Paul and wife Kim Freese of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ressmeyer of Glasgow, Mont. and LaVon Loberg of New Ulm; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; three nieces and one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
In lieu of flowers memorials may go to Gustavus Adolphus College, Neighbor to Neighbor Foundation of Minnesota or the donor's choice.
She was born Sept. 2, 1927, in Pipestone, to Eugene and Alene (Olson) Ressmeyer. She graduated from Pipestone High School in 1945. She attended Mankato Commercial College for one year. She worked in the office of Honeymead and Hubbard Milling companies. She also worked for 27 years in the business office of Gustavus Adolphus College. She married Ralph Freese on Nov. 16, 1974, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She did volunteer work with the Neighbor to Neighbor Foundation helping seniors with their Medicare and supplemental insurance claims.

Lorraine "Lori" Kiesling Johnson, 84, of Gaylord, formerly of Edina and Eden Prairie, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital.
The funeral has been postponed, pending family arrival, due to the national air travel shutdown.
Arrangements are handled by Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord.

Lillian E. Rasmussen, 89, of Hutchinson, died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, at Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with burial in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
She is survived by her sons, Berga Rasmussen of Willmar, Donald Rasmussen and his wife, Barb of Hutchinson, Raymond Rasmussen and his wife, Carol of Maple Lake, Vernon Rasmussen and his wife, Judy of Howard Lake, and Leonard Rasmussen and his wife, Lois of Potlatch, Idaho; daughters, Elenore Hauptli of Reno, Nev., Gerda Winter and her husband, Gayle of New Ulm, Linda Jaskowiak and her husband, Michael of Annandale; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Sorenson of Glencoe, and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Hulda Sorenson; her husband, Einer Rasmussen on Sept. 3, 1985; three sons in infancy; son-in-law, Ervin Hauptli; brothers, Alvin Sorenson and Herb Sorenson; and a sister, Rose Grindal.
Lillian Esther Rasmussen was born March 28, 1912, in Collins Township, McLeod County, to Thomas and Hulda (Dressel) Sorenson. She attended school in Collins Township and Cedar Mills Township. On Feb. 9, 1932, she married Einer Rasmussen in Glencoe. The family resided in Sumter Township and they also farmed in the Stewart area before moving to Hutchinson in the late 1930s. They moved to Park Towers in 1983. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
She later became a resident of Burns Manor Nursing Home in Hutchinson.

John Ankrum, 62, of Redwood Falls died on Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at his home.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Redwood Falls with burial in the Redwood Falls Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson-Martin Funeral Home in Redwood Falls and on Monday from 1p.m. until time of service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Marie Ankrum of Redwood Falls; children and spouses, Scott and Deb Ankrum of Minneapolis, Robert Skogstad of Kansas, Barbie Skogstad of Redwood Falls, Janay Nordby of Coon Rapids, Ann Brown of St. Peter and Scott Gokey of Chicago; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister Sylvia Keleher in 1993 and a stepson Ken Skogstad in 1996.
He was born on April 22, 1939, in Lake Sara Township Murray County, Minnesota, to William and Stella (Smarzik) Ankrum. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1956. He moved to Redwood Falls in 1968. He was formerly married to Kathy Ankrum. On Nov. 24, 1982, he married Beverly Marie Lohmar in Redwood Falls. He worked at the Redwood Falls Farmers Elevator for 25 years, retiring from Meadowland Farmers, Elevator in 1999. He had been employed at Jackpot Junction for the past 11 years. He was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. He was a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver from 1972 until 1989.

Patrick Waibel, 78, of Bird Island died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2001, at Renville County Hospital in Olivia.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home, Bird Island with burial at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday at Dirks-Blem Funeral Home, Bird Island.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association.
(Please note, the funeral on Monday is subject to family members from eastern Canada being able to return to Minnesota.)
He is survived by wife, Joan; children and their spouses, Martin and Martha Waibel, Bernard and Donna Waibel, Noreen and George Kozub, Dan and Janet Waibel; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Walter.
He was born April 1, 1923, in New Ulm to Joseph and Clara (Flor) Waibel. He attended school in New Ulm. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II and served in the occupational forces in Japan. He married Joan Segar on April 23, 1946, at Wells. They lived in Bird Island since 1962. He retired in 1985 as a machinery sales representative for Minnesota State Prison Industries.

Robert Ranniger, 78, formerly of Sanborn and Springfield, died Sept. 6, 2001, in Rochester.
Services were Monday at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, St. Paul with burial in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
He is survived by wife Emma; two daughters; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several grandstepchildren and stepchildren; brothers and wives, Earl and Adeline of St. Paul; Orry and Ethel of St. Paul, Donald and Clare of Golden Valley, Willard and Wanda of New Ulm; and sister-in-law, Dottie Ranniger of Montrose, Colo.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Eldora; parents and brother, Merle.
He was born March 25, 1923, in Carroll County, Iowa to John W. and Henrietta (Paesler) Ranniger. He moved to Minnesota in 1928. He attended school in Sanborn and rural Springfield. He served in the Army Air Force from February 1945 to December 1946. After discharge he drove trucks in the St. Paul area until retiring in 1987.

James L. Zimmerman, 71, of Owatonna, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester.
Services are 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna with burial at Forest Hill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday.Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Michaelson Funeral Home and 1-2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived byl his wife, Marjorie Zimmerman of Owatonna; mother, Alice Madsen of Fairmont; stepson, David Lantz of New York; daughter, Jane Zimmerman of Rice; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Sue Zimmerman of Owatonna; two granddaughters; sister, Maxine and husband Maurice Durkee of Winnebago; brother, Larry Zimmerman of New Ulm; brother and sister-in-law, Dale and DuAnn Zimmerman of Elmore; 14 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rolla Zimmerman.
He was born Aug. 3, 1930m in Mapleton to Rolla and Alice (Klint) Zimmerman. He graduated from Mapleton High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1952, spending 11 months in Korea during the Korean War. He married Marjorie Lokke on Dec. 30, 1954. He worked for the Owatonna Tool Company, Rochester Air Freight and Office World. He retired in 1991.
Memorials are: preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society or the donor's choice.

David 'Tuffy' Williams, 66, of Winthrop, died on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2001, at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, Winthrop, with military rites by the Winthrop Honor Guard. Burial will be at a later date in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-8 a.m. Monday at the Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop and one hour prior to the service at the church Monday.
He is survived by his wife Sandra of Winthrop; son, Jeffrey and his wife Tammy of Litchfield; daughter, Melissa and her special friend Dan Stevensen of Nicollet; brothers, Howard and his wife, Shirley of Hampton, Va., James and his wife, Betty of Shelby, N.C., and Gene and his wife, Lee of Smackover, Ark.; sisters, Dorothy "Dot" Blackburn and her husband, Charles of Lawndale, N.C. and Geraldine Donovan of Shelby, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Sue of Cherryville, N.C., Jill of Tuscon, Ariz., and Barb Thompson and her husband, Dick of Longville; brother-in-Iaw, Bruce Sandbo and special friend, Tammy Brockman of Wells; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by brothers, Robert C. and Everett.
He was born May 28, 1935 in Cherryville, N.C., to Robert Carl and Occie (Seagle) Williams. He grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Cherryville High School in 1953. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and made it a career. He married Sandra Sandbo on Aug. 28, 1965, at Norseland Norwegian Lutheran Church. The lived in South Carolina, Illinois, Panama and Virginia before settling in Minnesota. He retired from the Air Force in 1974. He later worked at Kraft in New Ulm. He attended vocational school for computer programming. He also worked at 3M in New Ulm and at Brown Printing in Waseca. He retired from Brown Printing in 1993. He had been calling Bingo at Jackpot Junction in Morton for the past several years.

Donald Bolland, 82, of Red Wing, died on Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at Red Wing Health Center in Red Wing.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Ormsby, with burial in Mountain Lake Cemetery in Moutain Lake.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour prior to services at the church.
He is survived by his former wife, Else Bolland of St. James; sons, Howard and wife Terry of Red Wing, Arden and wife Terri of Burnsville, Ronald and wife Sue of Chaska; daughters, Lorraine Bolland of Rochester, Edith and husband Lawrence Langsev of Bricelyn, and Brenda and husband Raphael Osorio of King City, Calif., 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Ottilie Bachmann.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was born on July 25, 1919, in Sioux City, Iowa. He was adopted by Henry and Pauline (Wiediger) Bolland. He married Else Bachmann on June 24, 1951. They later divorced. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II. He farmed for many years near St. James.

Elmer H. Hermel, 86, OF North Mankato, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001 at his home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato with burial in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to an organization of the donor's choice.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Hermel of North Mankato; sons and their wives, Loel and Betty Hermel of Good Thunder, Oren and Cindy Hermel of Wausau, Wis., and Scott and Janet Hermel of North Mankato; four grandchildren; sisters, Florence Bublitz of North Mankato, and Agnes Fluegge and her husband, Ted of New Ulm; one brother and his wife, Marvin and Orpha Hermel of Nicollet; many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.Elmer H. Hermel was born Oct. 10, 1914 to John and Anna (Wilking) Hermel in Nicollet Township. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet and was confirmed there in 1928.
He attended Dunwoody Institute. He was in the Army in September 1942 with the 18th Engineers. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands on the Island of Shemyea for 27 months. He was honorably discharged November 1945.
On Dec. 19, 1944, he married Esther Meyer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. After the war, he started the E.H. Hermel Construction Company and built many homes in Mankato and North Mankato. He retired in 1981.
He was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he had served as an officer on several boards.
