Lester Beyer, 96, of Lamberton, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at Springfield Medical Center.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, Sanborn, with burial in Lamberton Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He is survived by his son, Maynard and wife Sharon Beyer of Sanborn; daughter, Ardelle Swenson of Storden; and five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rosa in 1995; daughter-in-law Lois Beyer; son-in-law Neal Swenson; twin great grandchildren; brother Raymond; and sister Mamie.
He was born Jan. 11, 1905, in Charles Town Township, to August and Louis (Werner) Beyer. He attended country school and graduated from Lamberton High School in 1925. He married Rose Russenberger on Sept. 10, 1929. They lived on the farm. He retired from farming in 1975. He was member of the Masonic Lodge in Sanborn, served on many township boards and was a member of the school board and served on the church board of the German Town EUB Church. He was a current member of the Sanborn United Methodist Church.

Clara Evers, 84, of Gaylord died on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 10:3O a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gaylord with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday and 7-8:3O a.m. Tuesday at Egesdal Funeral Home, Gaylord, and Tuesday at the church, one hour before services.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Marlene Evers of rural Gaylord; daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Rodney Bruns of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Gladys Rose of Arlington; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one nephew; and two nieces.
She was preceeded in death by her husband in 1999; parents; and brother, Clarence Rose.
She was born Nov. 15, 1916 in Dryden Township, rural Gaylord, to Paul and Laura (Grochow) Rose. She attended rural Dryden school. She married Sidney C. Evers on Oct. 27, 1940 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Auburn. They farmed in Alfsborg Township. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gaylord.
She moved to Arlington Good Samaritan Center in 1991.

Roy Matthewson, 81, of Gaylord, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Kolden--Fenske Funeral Home, Gaylord, with burial in Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Kolden Fenske Funeral Home, Gaylord, and Monday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
He survived by his wife Vera; stepsons, Jerry (Nancy) Atwood of Glencoe, Steve (Shelly) Engelby of Madelia, Randy (Peg) Engelby of Gaylord, and Mike (Marie) Engelby of Gaylord; step-daughters Debra Scieszinski of Tulsa, Okla. and Pam Rubiscko of Fairfax; four step-grandchildren; and sisters, Holly Moore and Hazel Lawrence of Arkansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and step-grandson Brandon.
He was born on Dec. 3, 1919, to Daniel and Louella (Cox) Matthewson in Wynne, Ark. He farmed in Iowa until 1951 when he moved to Minnesota and farmed until 1974 at various locations. He worked in machinery manufacturing in 1974-1977. He moved to Gaylord in 1977 and worked as a carpenter until recently. He married Vera Engelby on Oct. 9, 1985, in Boonville, Mo.

Gene G. Forstner, 75, of rural New Ulm died Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at his home.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New
Ulm with burial in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm. Full military rites will beconducted at the cemetery by the New Ulm Veterans Organizations.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to New Ulm School District 88 or to the donor's choice.
Gene is survived by his wife Evelyn Forstner of rural New Ulm; his mother Veronica Forstner of New Ulm; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Steve Kohlhepp of Maple Grove, Margaret "Marggi" and Randy Thordson of rural Hanska, and Marlys and Gerard Davis of Beaverton, Ore.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Carrie Forstner of rural New Ulm, Steven and Franke Forstner of Prior Lake, Richard and Michelle Forstner of Afton, and Kevin and Jodi Forstner of New Ulm; 23 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Luverne Fischer of rural Sleepy Eye, and Connie and Charles Reichensperger of St. Cloud; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Donna Forstner of rural Gibbon, Myron and Shirley Forstner and Rollie and Arlis Forstner, all of rural New Ulm. Gene was preceded in death by his father Frank Forstner; and by a daughter Monica Forstner in infancy.
Gene was born Aug. 2, 1926 in New Ulm to Frank and Veronica (Boettger) Forstner. He attended New Ulm Public Schools and was a 1943 graduate of New Ulm High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 on a destroyer in the Pacific Theatre. Gene married Evelyn Kral on September 6, 1949 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Lake Hanska Township, Brown County for 45 years until retiring in 1994. They continued to live on the farm. Gene served on the New Ulm School District 88 School Board from 1966 to 1978 and then was appointed again in 1994 and he served until the present time. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm where he served as an usher for many years, he was a past member of the Sioux Valley Hospital Board of Directors, a member of the New Ulm Hub Club, a past member and president of the Sigel Creamery, he was a past member of the Sigel School District 75 School Board, and was a past player-manager of the Searles and Hanska Amateur Baseball Teams.

Marlin O. Schiffman, 75, of Willmar died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Willmar with burial at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Fairfax.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice and Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Willmar.
He is survived by his wife; children, LeRoy (and Kathy) Schiffman of Eagle Lake, Pat (and Doug) Deppe of Lake Elmo, and Marge (and Dave) Espeland of Gaylord; step-children, Linda Kent of California, Sharon Lanes of California, Randy Kent of Utah, Ron (and Lisa) Kaenel of Willmar; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren; and a brother Donald (and JoAnn) Schiffman of Burnsville.
Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother Marvid Schiffman, and twin grandchildren in infancy.
Marlin Otto Schiffman was born Nov. 6, 1925 in Fairfax, to Otto and Anne (Wiehr) Schiffman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Fairfax. He grew up in the Fairfax area where he attended school. Marlin helped his uncle farm before entering the United States Marine Corps. He served his country during World War II.
He was united in marriage to Lorraine Haugly in June of 1948. He married Lolla Kaenel on May 27, 1980 in South Dakota. Marlin farmed in various areas including: Benson, Kerkhoven, DeGraff, and Clara City. Marlin moved to Willmar in 1978 where he worked in construction as a carpenter and was a Maintenance Man at Infinia Nursing Home, retiring in 1989. Marlin was a member Immanuel Lutheran Church in Willmar.

Margaret Soll, 82, of Tracy, formerly of Walnut Grove, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the Tracy Hospital.
Services are Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church south of Walnut Grove, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday, from 4-8 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home in Walnut Grove with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues from 8-11 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday.
She is survived by two daughters, Donald (Randy) Heinrich of Walnut Grove and Shane (Roxanne) Saxhaug of Burnsville; three grandchildren, Stacy Bloemke, Brian Heinrich and Nicki Heinrich; three greatgrandchildren, Marki and Ariel Hubin and Jarrett Heinrich; and three sisters, Inez Rains of Wichita, Kan., Kenneth (Donna) Shaw of Tracy and David (Sonja) Paulson of Fargo, N.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and one sister.
She was the daughter of Carl and Cora Larson Eilefson and was born Dec. 3, 1918 at Valley City, N.D. She attended rural school and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. She also attended Normal School at Lamberton and for several years taught school in country schools in the area. She was united to marriage to Oran Soll, Oct. 30, 1945 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Her husband died in 1991. She was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Walnut Grove.

Betty Lou Binger, 63, of Fairfax, formerly of Winthrop died Sunday, Oct.14, 2001 at the Fairfax Community Home.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, Winthrop with burial in the Winthrop Cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church, Winthrop and 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Dalin-Hantge Funeral Chapel, Winthrop is handling arrangements.
She is survived by her husband Vern of Fairfax; sons, Jeff Blunt and his wife, Heather of Winthrop, Mark Blunt and his wife, Marlene of Brownton; 12 stepchildren; four grandchildren; 13 step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; brothers Edwin Wolter and his wife, Frieda of Winthrop, and Albert Woller and his wife, Carrie of Courtland; sisters, Lucy Schandel of Neenah, Wis. and Shirley Mueller and her husband, Gary of Staples; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Greg Blunt in October 1986; sister, Lorraine Lehmann in December 2000 and her former husband, Marvin Blunt in July 1996.
She was born July 9, 1938, in Glencoe to Albert and Martha (Eitel) Woller. She lived most of her life in Winthrop and lived in Fairfax for the past 12 years. She worked at Lyle's Cafe and at Hands, Inc., both in Winthrop. She married Vern Binger April 27, 1990 in Winthrop. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Winthrop.

Karen Elizabeth Goold, 40, formerly of New Ulm died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at her home in Minneapolis.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Christ The King Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with burial in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 5 - 8 p.m. Thursday and from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Friday.
She is survived by her mother, Eleanor Goold of Wetaskwin, Alberta, Canada; sons, Tyson Douglas Goold of Spicer, and Jonathan Chestlock of Canada; and a sister, Linda Victoria Goold of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur "Peter" Goold on Nov. 28, 1971; and grandmothers, Betty Jane Goold in November of 1999, Mabel Boldt on Apr. 25, 1983.
Karen was born on March 13, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York to Arthur "Peter" and Eleanor M. (Wolfram ) Goold. She graduated from Wetaskwin Composite High School and received her Masters Degree in Psychology from Mankato State University in Mankato. After receiving her Masters Degree she delt with her personal health concerns and focused on her writing.

Daryl "Bud" Bliss, 79, of Seaforth, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
Services will be 2 p.m.. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Seaforth, with military honors. Burial of his ashes will be at a later date in Zion Lutheran Cemetery at Springfield.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Seaforth and Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Nelson-Martin Funeral Service of Redwood Falls handled arrangements.
He is survived by his wife Cleona; a daughter, Bette Bliss of Seaforth; a son, Duane Bliss of Redwood Falls; sisters, Mary Lou Burtzel, Hazel Pratt and husband Lewis of Redwood Falls and Bernice Shemon and husband Rolland of Wabasso; brothers, Clinton Bliss and wife Darlene of Sheldon, Iowa, Don Bliss, Gary Bliss and wife Lorna of Redwood Falls and Erv Bliss of Seaforth, and many nieces and nephews.
he was preceded in death by his parents; sister Wilma Mammen; and a nephew, Jon Bliss.
He was born to George and Leona (Shaffer) Bliss on June 29, 1922 at the family home in rural Redwood Falls. He attended schools in Redwood districts 4 and 14. After his schooling, he helped Merle Mammen with corn shelling. In September 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years. After his honorable discharge he worked as an auto mechanic in Wabasso. He then worked for Merle Mammen again.
He married Cleona Kaseforth of Springfield on Sept. 20, 1947 in Brookings, S.D. They farmed at Lake Lillian for about four years. In 1952 they moved to a farm near Seaforth. Bud quit farming and moved into Seaforth in 1956. He ran the Seaforth garage for a while before going into the trucking and a hog buying station. He had to quit the trucking business in 1973 because of ill health, the result of an auto accident. He worked as a car salesman for Fred Jensen's Sales in Wabasso, Baker Brothers and then worked for the Robert Milton Home until he retired.
Bud had been a resident at the Veterans Home in Luverne for the past five years. Bud was mayor of Seaforth for 14 years.

Florence Joramo, 86, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2001 at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Pilgrim Funeral Home, Madelia, and Thursday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick and Elaine of Mitchell, S.D., and Richard and Dorothy of Madelia; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sisters, Minerva Smith of Okabena, and Angeline Lanbeck and husband John of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her husband in June 1986; and brothers, Sherll and Alex.
She was born Nov. 29, 1914, in rural Pipestone, to Floyd and Minnie (Thompson) Calkins. She grew up in rural Pipestone and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1933. She took teachers training and taught rural school in South Dakota and rural Hanska. She married Marvin Joramo on Feb. 16, 1941, in Hanska. She graduated from Mankato State Teachers College in 1961. She taught in LaSalle and St. James, retiring in 1980. She belonged to Lake Hanska Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School, was active in Ladies Aid and organized the parish newsletter. She was also a member of the Round Robin Letter group.

Marilla E. Narr, 88, of rural Henderson, died Monday, Oct.15, 2001, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Arlington, with burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Kolden-Fenske Funeral Home, Arlington, with an 8 p.m. prayer service, and Friday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Arnold; daughters, Darlene (Ed) Boehne of Henderson, Gloria Hazelette of Bronte, Texas, and Wendy (Curt) LeNoue of Wahpeton, N. D.; sons, Kenneth (Millie) Narr of Arlington, Ronald Narr of Henderson, and Jerry (Ruth) Narr of Henderson; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; sisters, Cora Goebel of Arlington, and Valerie (Melvin) Doering of Hutchinson; and a brother-in-law, Martin Jahr of Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Doris Jahr; son-in-law, Kenneth Hazelette; brother-in-law, Alfred Goebel; and a nephew.
She was born Aug. 10, 1913, in Washington Lake Township, Sibley County, to Charles and Anna (Lemberg) Timm. She attended country school. She married Arnold Narr on Sept. 27, 1931, in Dryden Township, Sibley County. They farmed in Jessenland Township, Sibley County, all of their married lives. She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid.

Elnora Serbus, 79, of Redwood Falls, died Tuesday, Oct.16, 2001, at Redwood Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian burial is 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Redwood Falls, with burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Bechyn.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson- Martin Funeral Home, Redwood Falls.
She is survived by her children, Marlyce Schuette of Redwood Falls, Gordon Serbus and wife Georgette of Redwood Falls, Roger Serbus of Redwood Falls, Charlotte Burgemeister and husband Rodney of Redwood Falls, Greg Serbus and wife Deb of Redwood Falls, Theresa Schumacher and husband Rick of Columbus, Neb. and Kathleen Serbus and special friend Brad Plowman of Hutchinson; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Mayme Rhodman of Fremont, Neb., Josie Kohout and husband Jim of Olivia and Georgia-Ann Eischens of Willmar.
She was born on Nov. 6, 1921, in Lake Grove Township, Mahnomen County, to Joseph and Millie (Had) Hinek. She married David Serbus on Nov. 27, 1941, in Bechyn. They farmed in Beaver Falls Township and owned and operated Serbus Gravel. They retired in 1977 and moved to Redwood Falls. He died Aug. 11, 1990. She moved into Johnson Park Place in April 1995 and became a resident at Wood Dale Nursing Home in November 1998. She was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church, the C.C.W. and St. Theresa's Mission Club of St. Catherine's and the Extension Club.

Mary Rose, 58, of Cullowhee, N.C. and formerly of Alamo, Texas and New Ulm, died Oct. 13, 2001, in North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, Michael of Cullowhee, N.C.; son, Michael Rose Jr. and wife Laura of Alamo, Texas; daughter Kathleen and husband Christopher Sweitzer of Dallas, Texas; seven grandchildren; brother-in-law, Les Rose and wife JoAnn of New Ulm.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Schneider; father, Edward Conlin; and brother, James Conlin.
She was born Oct. 16, 1942, in Storm Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Columbkilla High School in Varina, Iowa. She married Michael Rose on March 21, 1960. She received a doctorate in education in 1998. She was assistant professor at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.
