Bernadette ‘Tuddy’ Moritz Ringwelski

Bernadette “Tuddy” Ringwel-ski, age 57, a resident of Sobieski, MN, died May 14, 1998, at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

Mass of Christian burial was May 18 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Sobieski, with Father Raymond Donnay officiating. Interment was at the parish cemetery.

Tuddy was born on November 1, 1940, in Belgrade, MN, to Norbert and Marie (Brinkman) Moritz. She grew up in the Sauk Centre area. She was united in marriage to Harold Ley on October 1958. He passed away on November 28, 1964. On May 27, 1967, she married Jerome Ringwelski in St. Anna, MN. They farmed in the Sobieski area. She belonged to St. Anna Mission Group in Sobieski and Swan River Mothers Club, and Little Falls TOPs Club. She enjoyed making quilts and quilting and spending time with family and friends. She worked at Coborn’s deli in Little Falls.

Survivors include her husband, Jerome Sr. of Sobieski; daughters, Brenda and husband Ken Kuchenmeister of St. Cloud, and Becky and husband Leon Vetsch of Little Falls; sons, Hubert Ley of Oak Harbor, WA; Tim and wife Lynn Ley of Little Falls, Harold and wife Julene Ley of Sobieski and Jerry Ringwelski Jr. of Sobieski; and 20 grandchildren; her brother and sisters include Irene and Ray Fussy of Little Falls, Leander and Fronie Moritz of Sauk Centre, MN; Albin and wife Darlene Moritz of Sartell, LeRoy “Butch” Moritz of Sauk Centre, Robert and wife Diane Moritz of Waite Park, Carol and husband Lyle Gamradt of Sauk Centre, Lois Marthler of Sauk Centre, and Norbie and wife Patty of Sauk Centre.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Harold Ley Sr., and her brother, James.

Casketbearers were Ernie Ley, Kenneth Ley, Peter Fussy, Ronnie Moritz, Tom Ringwelski, and Dennis Koroll.

Florence J. Miller

Florence J. Miller, age 87, a resident of Foley, MN, died at the Foley Nursing Center May 16, 1998.

Funeral services were held May 20 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake with Rev. LeRoy Scholz officiating. Burial was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.

Florence was born January 10, 1911, in Duelm to Matt and Mary (Kutz) Wakeman. She married Lawrence Miller on June 26, 1937, at St. Marcus Church in Clear Lake. She lived by Briggs Lake most of her life and was a Nurses Aide at High Point Lodge for 25 years.

She is mother and mother-in-law to, Violet Moeller of Foley; Charles and Virginia Miller of Villard, MN, Celia Marquette of Maple Lakes, MN; Delia Mar-quette of Maple Lake, MN; Ruth and John Pappenfus of Royalton, MN. Survivors also include a sister, Emma Connor of LeSeur; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence on November 9, 1944; daughters, Mary Miller; brothers, Albert, Edward, Anthony, George, Gust, Emil, Pete and William Wakeman, sisters, Clara Ehmke, Susie Am-born, Cecelia Shaw; grandchildren, Wanda Marquette and Kevin Todd Marquette.

Casketbearers were grandchildren, Jeff, Travis, Darin and Brenda Marquette, Donald Moeller, Brian and Scott Pappenfus.

Audrey Joyce Balaski

Audrey Joyce Balaski, age 63, a resident of Little Falls, MN, died May 16, 1998, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls.

Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Belle Prairie, MN, on May 19 with Rev. Harold J. Kost officiating. Burial will take place at a later time in the parish cemetery.

Audrey J. Balaski was born July 3, 1934, to the late Michael and Doris “Preble” Cregon in Minneapolis, MN. She moved to Little Falls with her parents where she grew up and attended school, graduating from the class of 1951. After completing her education she resided in the Little Falls area. She was united in marriage to Thomas Balaski on June 25, 1953. The couple made their home in Ripley township, raising their children. Audrey stayed at home raising the children until 1983, at which time she became a cook for the “Country Place” and “Castaway”. In 1986 she returned home and became a housewife. Thomas passed away August 12, 1994, and Audrey continued living at home until she became a resident of the Pine Grove Manor in March of 1998, residing there until her death. Audrey was a life member of Holy Family Church, she enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons, Steven and wife, Mary of Little Falls, Terry of Little Falls and Brian of Little Falls; daughters, Brenda Balaski of Little Falls, Lori and husband Dave Kitchen of Fort Worth, TX, Sherril and husband, Bruce Lamont of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Roberg Cegon and wife, Joann of Arizona; sister, Beverly Trebiatowski and husband, Herman of Little Falls; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas August 12, 1994.

Pallbearers were Michael Balaski, Thomas Balaski, Greg Vietek, Les Voigte, Randy Lemm and David Kitchen.

John Jones

John Jones, age 75, a resident of Hillman, died May 16, 1998, in Osseo, MN.

Services were held May 20 gat the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillman with Pastor Lynn Broughton officiating. Burial was in the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Crystal, MN.

John was born on April 27, 1923, in Wilcoz, NE, to Annie and Monroe Jones. He attended Forest City, MO, grade and high school, and Maryville State Teachers College, Maryville, MO. He was employed as a machinist. John served in the US Army Air Force from June 1942 to September 1945. On October 3, 1945, he was united in marriage to Avis Thormodsgrad of Hudson, SD. They resided in St. Joseph, MO, Canton and Sioux Falls, SD, and Minneapolis, MN, until moving to Hillman, MN, in 1985. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Platte Lake and associate member of Faith Lutheran Church of Safford, AZ.

Survivors include his son Charles Rollie and wife Sharon of Osseo, MN; a daughter, Carol Nusbaum of Buffalo, MN; three grandchildren, Ingrid Nelson and her husband Tim of Buffalo, MN, Jennifer Paul of Coral Springs, FL, and Richard Case of Brooklyn Park, MN; four great-grandchildren, Amber and Preston Case, and Charles and Calvin Nielsen; two sisters, Marjorie Peterson of Big Lake, MO, and Mary Jane Thomas of Highland, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Avis, and two brothers, James and Marion Jones.

Dolores Kastonek
Dolores Lucille Kastonek, age 67, a resident of Nashwauk, MN, died August 9, 1997, at Bethesda Medical Center, St. Paul, MN.

Funeral services were held August 14 in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing, MN. Burial was in the Union Cemetery, Cushing.

Dolores was born July 26, 1930, in Philbrook, MN, the daughter of Carl and Ethel Anderson. She was raised in Cushing where she attended Bethany Lutheran Church. She married Lester Kastonek May 7, 1949, in Little Falls, MN. They moved to Nashwauk in 1950 where they raised their family. She was a loving mother and homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Lester; one daughter, Karen Skraba and husband Gene of Nashwauk; three sons, Al and wife Carol of Pengilly, MN, Les and wife Jane of Nashwauk and Gary of Nashwauk; two brothers, Gene Anderson and wife Margaret of Geneva, FL, and Richard Anderson and wife Arlys of Grand Rapids, MN; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Creston C. Peterson

Creston C. Peterson, age 59, a resident of Long Prairie, MN, died August 8, 1997, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, MN.

The funeral was August 12 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie with Father Mark Stang officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Long Prairie.

Creston was born May 5, 1938, in Roosevelt, MN, to Carl and Hazel (Dollarhide) Peterson. He grew up and attended school in the Roosevelt area. He married Mardy Exe, August 7, 1982. He was a lead lineman foreman for Minnesota for 35 years, retiring June 30, 1995. He had been a Long Prairie resident since August 1965. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, the outdoors and he greatly appreciated his many friends. He was one of the first organizers of hockey in Long Prairie. He belonged to St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and Long Prairie Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife Mardy, Long Prairie, MN; stepmother, Lois Peterson of Warroad, MN; nine children and spouses, Doug Peterson and wife Lisa, Circle Pines, MN, Dianne Peters and husband Greg of Burtrum, MN, Dawn Nokels and husband Kevin of Omaha, NE, Denise Majerus and husband Tim of Brainerd, MN, Gary DeVries of Brainerd, MN; Dale DeVries of Brainerd, MN, Ricky DeVries and wife Cami of St. Paul, MN, Brenda Halverson and husband Scott of Albany, MN, Stacey Urman and husband Paul of Long Prairie, MN, and pet companions, Duke and Ginger; a sister, Eloise Moen of Remer, MN; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Evelyn Croeker and one grandson, Jordan.

Casketbearers were Steve Kopish, Robbin Minke, James Turcotte, Robert Kruzel, Mike Reinbold and Rodger Bense. Honorary casketbearers were John Visser, Robert Wolters, Del Zeller, Mary Jo Retka and Joni Hamson.

Violet Mader

Violet Mader, age 70, a resident of St. Francis, MN died August 8, 1997, at her home in St. Francis.

Funeral services were August 11 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the Stearns County Pioneer Club grounds in Albany, MN with the Rev. James Wathan officiating. Burial was in the Upsala Memorial Cemetery in Upsala, MN.

She was born February 14, 1927, in St. Anna, MN to Edmund and Mary (Wiatrak) Wenderski. She married Cyril Mader October 2, 1945, in St. Anna. She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Round Prairie, MN. She farmed with her husband near St. Francis all her married life.

Survivors include her husband; sons and daughters, Sharon Tschida of Albany, Timothy of Albany, Gail Cherne of Freeport, MN, Lyle of Freeport, Dwayne of Freeport, Kevin of Freeport and Joan Anderson of Anoka, MN; 21 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Monica Mueller of Cold Spring, MN, Aggie Otto of Illinois, Annie Chiantera of Blaine, MN, Vicky Sherburne of Blaine, Delores Tverberg of Minneapolis, MN, Barb Riesner of Avon, MN, Don of Avon, James of Avon, Joe of Avon and Sally Imgrund of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother (Harry); two sisters (Lucille Streit and Mary Wenderski).

Pallbearers were Russ, Darin and Ember Cherne, Mike, Adam and Rachael Tschida and Amanda Anderson.
