SMETHERS

Mollie I. Smethers, 91, Tipton, died Sept. 16, 1999, at Tipton Manor Nursing Home.

She was born May 28, 1908, in Limon, Colo., a daughter of George and Ada F. Armstrong Norvell. She was married Dec. 31, 1933, in Centerview, to Edgar Smethers, who died May 28, 1998.

She had worked at A.F. Martin Manufacturing and at Weber Shoe Company of Tipton. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Tipton.

Survivors include: one son, Leslie Dove, Tipton; one brother, W.F. Norvell, Clinton; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two step grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and one step grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Conn Funeral Home, Tipton. The Rev. J.D. Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Tipton Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today.

KOTTHOFF

Mildred Kotthoff, 83,  Jefferson City, died Sept. 17, 1999, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Facility.

She was born June 8, 1916, in Fredricksburg, a daughter of Fred and Melinda Busse Wolfe. She was married June 14, 1939, in Montgomery City, to Oscar Christian Kotthoff, who died March 1, 1988.

She attended school in Platner. A homemaker, she did housekeeping for many families in the Linn area and provided child care for many families in the  Jefferson City area.

She attended First Assembly of God Church,  Jefferson City, and the Women's Aglow International.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mae Benson,  Jefferson City; one brother, Andrew Wolf, Morrison; and one sister, Geneva Koelling, Bay.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Morton Funeral Chapel, Linn. The Rev. Paul Scheperle will officiate. Burial will be in Linn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the Women's Aglow International.

SALMONS

Elmer E. Salmons, 77, Fulton, died Sept. 18, 1999, at Fulton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Callaway County, a son of Everett R. and Hattie May Day Salmons. He was married in November 1944 in Fulton to Grace Waunita Foster, who survives at the home.

He retired from Harbison-Walker Refractories after 37 years as a forklift operator.

Other survivors include: two sons, Elmer Anthony Salmons and Ricky Lee Salmons, both of Fulton; two brothers, Everett Salmons and Herbert Salmons both of Fulton; two sisters, Jewell Fritz and Rose Beckly, both of Fulton; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anna Lea Thomas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. Bruce Williamson will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today.

CASSIDY

Charles "Chuck" Cassidy, 51, Fulton, died Sept. 18, 1999, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.

He was born Nov. 14, 1947, in Sedalia. His father, Walter T. Cassidy, survives in Mexico. His mother, Bertha Kimbell Klinetobe, survives in Auxvasse. He was married March 17, 1972, in New Bloomfield, to Beverly Martin, who survives at the home.

A 1966 graduate of Fulton High School, he was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator for the International Union of Operating Engineers of St. Louis. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Other survivors include: one son, Marty Cassidy, Kingdom City; one daughter, Michelle Cassidy, Fulton; and two brothers, Walter Cassidy, Auxvasse, and Robert Cassidy, Lincoln, Neb.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Debo Funeral Home, Fulton. The Rev. Steven Dull will officiate. Entombment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to Camp Quality, in care of Mike Roberts, Channel 13.

CAVINESS

Johnnie Lee Caviness, 82, of Gravois Mills, died Sept. 18, 1999, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital, Columbia.

He was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Linn Creek, a son of John S. and Alice A. Percival Caviness. He was married Sept. 15, 1949, to Ella Mae Shanks, who survives at the home.

He was a self-employed building contractor at the Lake of the Ozarks until his retirement. He was an Army veteran of World War II; a member of VFW Post 5092, Gravois Mills; American Legion Post 104, Versailles; Gravois Mills Baptist Church; and a trustee of Gravois Mills Ball Club. He was past post commander of the VFW and American Legion and a past VFW commander of District 2. He was a National Appointed V.A.V.S. Representative at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital.

Other survivors include: two sons, William F. Kodadek, Enterprise, Ala.; Adrian Lee "Spud" Caviness, Gravois Mills; one daughter, Esta Mae Caviness, Gravois Mills; one brother, Franklin "Butch" McGinnis, Stover; one sister, Mildred Foxworthy, Kansas City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

One son, Henry David Caviness, preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Versailles. The Rev. Jay Ketchi will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to the VFW Post 5092, Gravois Mills.

HALDIMAN

Jacob Frederick Haldiman Jr., 86, Jamestown, died Sept. 19, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born Dec. 1, 1912, in Jamestown, a son of Jacob F. Sr. and Anna Haldiman. He was married Nov. 28, 1953, in Salem, to Ruby Taylor, who survives at the home.

He graduated from Jamestown High School and was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was a lifelong farmer in the Jamestown area and was a member of the United Church of Christ of Jamestown.

Other survivors include: one daughter, Rebecca Conway, Sioux City, Iowa; one son, Danny Haldiman, Jamestown; one sister, Lourine Meyer, Prairie Village, Kan.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Weber and Sons Funeral Home, California. Chester Marshall will officiate. The remains will be cremated.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice House of  Jefferson City or the American Cancer Society.

PHILLIPS

Parris W. "Jimmie" Phillips, 69, of Sunrise Beach, died Sept. 19, 1999, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.

He was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Sedalia, a son of Parris G. and Helen Hunter Phillips. He married July 15, 1955, to Amelia Mae Diefendorf, who survives at the home.

He was a truck driver for Nation Wide Paper Company, Kansas City, before retiring in 1978. He was a Navy veteran.

The remains were cremated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home, Laurie.

TROUTMAN

Florence Genevieve Troutman, 76,  Jefferson City, died Sept. 19, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

She was born July 17, 1923, in  Jefferson City, a daughter of Ben P. and Bertha Della Ware Lane. She was married Jan. 31, 1948, in  Jefferson City, to Raleigh Clinton Troutman, who died June 5, 1975.

A 1941 graduate of  Jefferson City High School, she was employed in the quality control division of Chesebrough Ponds until her retirement in 1971. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Merry L. Lawson,  Jefferson City; two sons, Larry D. Troutman and Paul V. Troutman, both of  Jefferson City; two sisters, Mary Bremmerkamp and Leona Lampe, both of  Jefferson City; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. The Rev. Doyle Sager will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

MOELLER

Rita Mae Moeller, 51,  Jefferson City, died Sept. 19, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

Arrangements are incomplete at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

ROLL

Gertrude A. Roll, 88, California, died Sept. 19, 1999, at Moniteau Care Center, California.

Arrangements are incomplete at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home, California.

BOCK

Anton W. "Tony" Bock, 68, Westphalia, died Sept. 21, 1999, at St. Marys Health Center.

He was born July 5, 1931, in Westphalia, a son of Henry M. and Mary Schwartz Bock. He was married Aug. 4, 1956, in  Jefferson City, to Dorothy Voss, who survives at the home.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Westphalia, and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Huber's Cafe and Filling Station for four years, and at Westphalia Milling Co. for 17 years. He was employed as a maintenance mechanic for 20 years at Von Hoffman Press until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, where he served on the building, finance and cemetery committees. He took care of the bells and clocks at the church and was co-chairman of the St. Joseph picnic one year.

He was a member of Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council 1171, where he was co-chairman of the Knights of Columbus picnic twice and served on the Home Association. He was a member, commander and chaplain at American Legion Post 544, Westphalia, and a charter member of the Westphalia Volunteer Firefighters until 1986. He was a member of Teamsters Local 833 Retiree's Club.

Other survivors include: two sons, Allen Bock, Columbia, and Glenn Bock, Westphalia; one daughter, Karla Wiseman, Auxvasse; one brother, Raymond Bock, Westphalia; two sisters, Celestine "Sally" Bure and Regina "Jean" Kempker, both of Westphalia; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia. The Rev. Robert Kurwicki will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Hilke-Millard Funeral Home, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic School, Westphalia, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
