Burial, Saulsbury Cemetery, Saulsbury, Tenn. Member of Gracewood Baptist Church, Southaven and active in the Whitehaven Business and Professional Women’s Club, holding major offices in local and state chapters. Preceded in death by husband of 39 years, Jack Thompson; sister, Robbie Palmer; and brother, Russell Palmer. Leaves son, Jack P. Thompson (Rhonda); grandchildren, Nicki and Aaron Thompson, Ashley, Krystal and Mallory Carrasquilla; sisters, Annie Ruth Goodnight, Hernando; Ola Mae Finerty, Birmingham; and Evelyn Gregory, Memphis; several nieces and nephews who were very close to her; and many friends.

VINCENT - Ethel E. Vincent, 90, Pleasant Hill, died April 28, 2008, at Wesley Meadows Retirement Home. Housewife, homemaker, member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and an Eastern Star member. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 29 at Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home, Hernando. Graveside service was at 10 a.m. April 30 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill. Preceded in death by husband, Bruce Vincent; and son, William A. Vincent. Leaves daughters, Sharon Garner (Don) and Mary Sue Jenkins (Johnny); all of Arkabutla; son, Jack H. Vincent (Mary), Southaven; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

WALKER - Jossie B. Walker, 88, Byhalia, passed away April 29, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 and services were at 10 a.m. May 1, both at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. Interment, Emory Cemetery. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and was a longtime member of Emory Independent Methodist Church. Survived by husband of 69 years, Floyd Walker; daughter, Barbara Fiveash (J.C.), Olive Branch; son, Jim Walker (Rosie), Byhalia; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

BAKER - Bob Baker, 79, Memphis, died May 6, 2008, at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown. Hospital. Born Sept. 23, 1928 in Memphis to the late Louis Thomas and Janie Baker, was in sales for Bell-South for 47 years, graduate of the University of Memphis, member of Bellevue Baptist Church for 35 years, and an Army veteran. A graveside service was Friday, May 9 at Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, Southaven. Survived by wife of 47 years, Lois Baker, Memphis; son, Bobby Baker, Memphis; daughter, Alice Baker Fordham, Huntsville, Ala.; sister, Jane Haney, Olive Branch; and grandchild, Heather Fordham. The family requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Bellevue Baptist Church.

BAKER - Nanette W. Baker, 71, Arkabutla, passed away May 8, 2008, at Baptist DeSoto Hospital. Visitation was held from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10 with services following at 2:30 p.m., both at Pate-Jones Funeral Home, Senatobia. Burial, Surrette Cemetery, Arkabutla. Survived by husband, Jerry Baker, Arkabutla; daughter, Penny Montgomery (Ronald), Arkabutla; son, Butch Baker (Debbie), Arkabutla; sisters, Betty Jean Gann, West Memphis, Ark.; and Jeslyn Sue Sneed, Bald Knob, Ark.; brother, William E. “Billy” Watson, Tunica; and grandchildren, Jessica Baker, Rebekah Baker, Jonathon Montgomery and Rachel Montgomery. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Arkabutla United Methodist Church building fund in lieu of flowers.

Survived by wife, Carolyn Carson; children, Derwin Carson, John Carson, Joe Carson, and Ann Taylor; grandchildren, Stephen Smith, Daniel Carson, Ben Carson, Katie Carson, Andrew Carson, Jake Carson, Ellen Taylor, and Nicholas Taylor; great-grandchild, Samantha Smith; brothers, Bobby Joe Carson, Russell Carson, and Roy Carson; sisters, Dorothy Barham and Sara Scholler; step-children, Janet Churchill and Bruce Bailey; and step-grandchildren, Garrett Bailey, Jeremy Churchill, and Christian Bailey. Preceded in death by parents, Joe M. Carson and Sara E. Carson; brother, Clyde Carson; and sister, Mary Shackelford. EDWARDS - John Thomas Edwards, 71, Southaven, passed away May 9, 2008. Service was at 2 p.m. Monday, May 12 at Forest Hill South with visitation from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial, Forest Hill South Cemetery. Served in the Air Force for 10 years and retired after 30 years from the Internal Revenue Service. Preceded in death by parents, Jeff and Verna Edwards; sister, Mary; and brothers, Elton and Jerry. Leaves wife of 49 years, Valerie Edwards; daughter, Kathy Stevens (Todd), Southaven; son, Jeff Edwards (Ronda), Jackson, Tenn.; brothers, Glen Edwards, Bridgetown, Miss.; and Curtis Edwards, Arizona; grandchildren, Haley and Jacob Edwards and Justin and Bradley Stevens.

FAIRCLOTH - Cody, 21, Southaven, died May 4, 2008. Born Nov. 27, 1986, in Hinds County, Miss., and was a factory worker for On Staff. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 and services were at 1 p.m. May 8, both at Twin Oaks Funeral Home. Burial, Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens, Southaven. Survived by fiancé, Shada Smith, Horn Lake; son, Jordan Smith, Horn Lake; daughter, Caylee Smith Faircloth, Horn Lake; parents, Keith and Angela Dalton, Southaven; step-brother, David Dalton, Southaven; and grandmother, Barbara Ann Faircloth, Hernando. FINCH - Lucille Ausborn Finch, 87, Hernando, died May 8, 2008, at the Baptist Desoto Hospital. Born May 16, 1920, in Amory, lived in the Hernando and Southaven areas for the past 20 years, member of the Calvary Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. Visitation was from 1 p.m. until the service at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, both at the E. E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel, Amory. Burial, Haughton Memorial Park. Survived by daughter, Helen Weddle, Hernando; brothers, Vertis Ausborn Becker and Junior Ausborn, both of Amory; grandchildren, Bruce Weddle, Karen McNeil, Scott Weddle, and Amy Weddle; and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, James Leonard and Lena Allen Ausborn; husband, Lee Roy Finch; three brothers; and two sisters.

FORD - Marvin Lenaul Ford, 46, Atlanta, Ga., died May 3, 2008. Born March 10, 1962, in Lake Cormorant, and accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age at Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Preceded in death by father, Clarence Ford Jr. Leaves son, Marvin Lenaul Boyd; mother, Mae Ruth Ford; sisters, Annie Washington, Geneva Ford, Evelyn Ford-Smith (Anthony), Glouria Jean Ford-Echols (Jimmy), Joyce Ford, Sharon Ford-Johnson (Terrell); four brothers, Michael Lenaul Ford Sr. (Velda), Garry Ford (Vickie), Randy Ford, Dennis Ford (LaRonda); eleven nieces; twelve nephews; three great-nieces; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. The wake was from 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 9 at Hernando Funeral Home. Service was at 12 noon May 10 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church. Interment, New Park Cemetery.

HENDRIX - Nick Hendrix, 20, Southaven, died May 4, 2008. Visitation was from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, May 8 with the memorial service beginning at 7 p.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home, Southaven. Survived by mother, Suzanne Hendrix, Southaven; father, Butler “Chip” Hendrix, Cassadega, Fla.; sister, Becky Hendrix, Southaven; and grandparents, Hannah Southerns, Southaven; Gene Kobylarz, Southaven; and Butler and Jean Hendrix, Haskell, Okla. The family requests memorials be made to the DeSoto Sunrise Homes.

HINES - Henry Brooks Hines, 72, Jackson, Tenn., died May 5, 2008. Born Dec. 23, 1953, in Fox, Ark. to Emery and Eula (Branscum) Hines and was a construction contractor. Survived by daughter, Peggy Miller, Bonner Springs, Kan.; sons, Steve Hines, Southaven; Roger Hinesand Keith Hines, Choctaw, Ark.; Shannon Hines, Norfolk, Va.; brother, Delmar Hines, Greenbrier, Ark.; sister, Lou Surles; five grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents; two brothers; and one sister. A private family memorial service is planned for a later date.

JARED - Rivers Anderson Hardy Jared, 92, Olive Branch, died May 9, 2008. Preceded in death by husband, Earl Hardy; four brothers; and five sisters. PUGH - James Edd Pugh, 84, Memphis, passed away May 4, 2008. Survived by wife of 63 years, Ola Mae Pugh; daughters, Wanda Crossman, Horn Lake; Flora Overstreet Walls, Lora Crawford, Marlene Walls and Arlene Harris, all of Southaven; sons, Roy E. Pugh, Memphis; and Gerald Pugh, Yorkshire, England; sister, Clara Mae Gowen; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Member of Southaven Church of the Nazarene and worked as a senior structural project coordinator for an architectural company. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 and services were at 10 a.m. on May 8, both at Forest Hill South Funeral Home. Interment, Forest Hill South Cemetery.

RIDGEWAY - Bertie Pirtle Ridgeway, 83, Millington, died May 7, 2008. Preceded in death by husband, William Freddie Pirtle; son, Larry Pirtle; and brothers, James Griffin, Joseph Griffin, Richard Griffin. Survived by daughter, Bettye Paulette Fuller; son, Charles Pirtle and Jerry Pirtle; sister, Betty Lloyd; brothers, Harrold Griffin and Johnny Griffin; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. SAYERS - Myrtle F. Sayers, 91, Memphis, died May 5, 2008, at Primacy Healthcare. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7 and services were at 1 p.m. May 8, both at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery. Member of Forest Hill Irene Church of Christ, where she taught the Ladies Bible Class and Sunday School, and supporter of the Memphis School of Preaching. Preceded in death by husband, Harry. Leaves daughters, Harriett Sprott and Patsy Erwin, both of Memphis; son, Tommy Sayers, Florence, Ala.; sister, Faye Clegg, Memphis; brothers, L. K. Fuller, Olive Branch; and Alfred Fuller, Littleton, Colo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Memphis School of Preaching.

STONE - Elza Rayford Stone, 86, Olive Branch, died May 6, 2008. WWII Air Force veteran, retired dairy farmer, feed store owner, and elder at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Olive Branch. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 8 and services began at 10 a.m. May 9, both at Brantley Funeral Home, Olive Branch. Burial, Bethel Cemetery. Preceded in death by wife, Fannie Stone. WALTHALL - James Robert Walthal, 68, Horn Lake, died May 7, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital DeSoto. Worked for Dealers Automobile Auction, member of Horn Lake Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, spent more than two decades as an alderman serving 1973-1997, and was also veteran. Visitation was from 1-2:45 p.m. Saturday, May 10 with service following at 3 p.m. at Horn Lake Baptist Church. Burial, New Bethlehem Cemetery, Horn Lake. Leaves wife, Patricia Walthall; daughter, Margaret Moore, Horn Lake; son, Andrew Walthall, Southaven; sister, Betty Kay Jonkman, Clovis, Calif.; step-sister, Elinor Koepcko, Madison, Ill.; and grandchildren, Kendyl Moore, Micah Walthall, Aaron Walthall, Cassie Moore.
