Joyce W. Bruursema
REED POINT - A very special person left us on Tuesday, Nov. 9. It's difficult to say in a few words how much our Dad's wife and our Mom meant to us and how she impacted our world.
Joyce Bruursema's 68 years on this earth were filled with laughter, children, gardens and great food. She was born in Dorr, Mich., on Oct. 25, 1931, to Seth and Sena Post. She began her 49 committed and entertaining years with Ken Bruursema in 1950. They had seven children who both delighted and frustrated her, but who never bored her. In 1972, the mountains and blue skies of Montana beckoned them to settle in Reed Point. She spent several years as the school cook. Countless children will remember her wonderful meals, as will her family who enjoyed them every time they came to her home. Making goodies for others was always her way of giving out love by the "spoonfuls."
Mom was especially fond of her flower garden and spent many enjoyable hours there. Nurturing flowers and children were special talents for her. Her grandchildren were spoiled a bit as well as watered with unconditional love. These grandkids who miss her are: Elly, Jordan and Shae, Nathan and Logan, Corey, Casey and Candace, Lucas and Amanda, Steve (Lisha), Julie and Dan, and great-granddaughter, Megan.
Mom, we know how much you loved blue. That beautiful color will always remind us of the beauty you brought to our lives. We will be strong and go on; watch over us. You loved well and were very well loved in return. Say hello to Dann for us and put on a good pot of soup!
Joyce's family are her husband, Ken of Reed Point; her sons, Doug (Joyce) Bruursema of Columbus; Dean (Jule') Bruursema of Reed Point and Dann (Lori) Bruursema, who preceded her in 1994, and her daughters, Deb (Tom) Lutke, Dianne (Jim) Booth and Dori Bruursema, all of Reed Point, and Doti Bruursema of Junction City, Ore. She has two brothers, Bill and Seth Post, and two sisters, Gladys De Kraker and Shirley Ver Beek, who reside in Michigan.
