SIDNEY – Marjorie Stedman, 72, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, at the Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Elizabeth P. ‘Bobbie’ Green
MALTA – Elizabeth P. “Bobbie” Green, 66, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Retirement Center.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at the Malta Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be in the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home and Hi-Line Crematory are in charge.

Brian Huffman
PLENTYWOOD – Brian Huffman, 42, died Friday, June 2, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Plentywood Lutheran Church. A family committal service will take place at a later date. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Graham Hamilton Hutton
TURNER – Graham Hamilton Hutton, 77, died Thursday, June 1, 2000, at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, in the Turner High School Gymnasium. Interment will be in the Turner cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge.

Leslie A. ‘Butch’ Southworth
ROUNDUP – Leslie A. “Butch” Southworth, 61, died at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings with family members by his side.
Our Dad Les “Butch” was the ultimate cowboy. He was a beautiful horseman. He loved country living and his horses.
He worked iron for 42 years and was no stranger to hard work.
He loved to dance and when he did you’d better get out of his way. He knew how to dance and he did it with heart and soul.
He had a soft heart and would help strangers at the drop of his hat. He brought several families home because they were in need. He had a very generous heart.
Thank you for being our Dad. We love you. We’ll never forget your presence and all you taught us.
Forever, your family.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; six children, Mike, Craig, Tim (Anita), Dale (Tina Lee), Ron and Barbara (Kevin) Frank, four step-children, Greg (Lora) Hatfield, Janice (Stewart) Egge and Patrick and Mike Southworth; 18 grandchildren, Shyanne, Dusti, Justin, Daniel Clayton, Colton, Kayla, Melissa and John Paul (Pam) Southworth, Measha Wooden, Jesse (Daisy) Agar, Zachary Frank, Mandy and Magon Hatfield, Kevin Egge, Allisa Egge, Eric Egge, Aaron Egge and Leslie Southworth, his last born grandchild and namesake; three great-grandchildren, Jon Luke and Kenny Southworth, and Lily Agar.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, at Wier Funeral Chapel. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Wier Funeral Chapel.

Jody Lee Morton
BROADVIEW – Jody was born May 5, 1979, in Billings, Mont., the son of David and Debbie Morton. He died June 1, 2000, in Oak Grove, La., in a crop dusting accident.
He graduated from Broadview High School in May of 1998. He played all types of sports in his community including little league baseball, basketball and 6-man football. His senior year he was selected to play on the All Star football team.
He was an active member of Painted Robe 4-H Club. He showed horses and raised steers.
He belonged to the Montana High School Rodeo Association, Montana Team Ropers Association and the NRA (National Rodeo Association).
Jody was an avid outdoorsman and loved to elk hunt, water ski and be with his friends.
He graduated from Ag Flight School in Bainbridge, Ga., on May 1, 2000. He was employed by Pioneer Aviation in Pioneer, La., at the time of his death.
Jody is survived by his father, David of Broadview, and his brother Donny and his fiancee Dorothy Flaherty and her son Shawn, of Livingston, Mont.; Grandparents Glen and Dorothy Morton of Broadview, and Don and Phyllis Wertz of Lavina and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Debbie Morton.
Memorials may be made to the Broadview Quick Response Unit, Box 67, Broadview, MT 59015.
Jody lived life to the fullest. He died doing something that he loved. His smile and zest for life will be missed by all he touched.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith West at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. There will be a gathering and luncheon at Hope Evangelical Church, 5554 Grand Ave., immediately following.

Mary R. Wills
RIO VERDE, Ariz. – Mary R. Wills, 56, passed away peacefully in her Rio Verde, AZ home on April 1, 2000, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary, the daughter of Tony and Mary (Stringari) Navasio, was born on Sept. 20, 1943 and raised in Billings, Montana. She graduated from Billings Central High School and attended St. Mary’s College in Kansas City, Mo. After school she returned to Montana where she worked in Bozeman for Montana Power Co. and later moved to Kalispell where she formed her own bridal consulting business and worked at the Outlaw Inn convention center. In 1982, Mary and her husband Norman Wills, moved to Oklahoma City where she was employed by Total Petroleum Corp. In 1984, they relocated to the Silicon Valley area of California where Mary realized her career goals as principle founder and chief financial officer of two computer software franchises, where she remained active until her death.
Her energy, enthusiasm, and generous spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, Tony Novasio in 1978.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Novasio, of Billings; her husband, Norman Wills, of Rio Verde, Ariz.; one son, Steven Klarich, of Renton, Wash.; one daughter, Mia Keller, of Kalispell; one stepdaughter, Leslie Gaines, of Littleton, Colo.; four brothers, John Novasion, of Billings; Joe Novasio, of Colstrip, Lou Novasio and Pat Novasio, of Portland, Ore. and her special aunt, Virginia Conlee, of Billings, six grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with Deacon Fred Topp officiating. Burial will follow at Conrad Memorial cemetery. The family requests memorials be made to St. John’s Lutheran Home, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, MT, 59102. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary & Crematory.

Dr. Nikalous Josef Hastetter
SEATTLE, Wash. – Dr. Nikalous Josef Hastetter, 77, retired physician and surgeon of Circle, Montana, peacefully passed away May 8, in Seattle, Washington.
Dr. Hastetter brought to McCone County and surrounding communities his expertise in Family Medicine and General Surgery. He faithfully served the area for 40 years, sustaining a solid foundation of care during that time. He was well respected by his colleagues and patients. An astute businessman, Dr. Hastetter handled his multifaceted affairs judiciously and with acumen. He was known and respected for his friendship, dynamic personality and definitive medical care that impacted many lives. He was one of the last true old country physicians, available for his patients 24 hours a day.
Dr. Hastetter was born Aug. 3, 1922 in Munich, Germany, the son of Josef and Katarina Feuchtwanger Hastetter. He graduated from the University of Munich School of Medicine in 1951 with honors, completing a residency in surgery, with distinction, in Germany. After immigrating to the United States, Dr. Hastetter completed a Rotating Internship at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Chicago. He practiced medicine for a short time in Missouri and South Dakota, and then brought his family to Eastern Montana.
Dr. Hastetter was a loving husband to his wife Erika, protective father to son Tom and daughter Judy, and special friend to many.
He is survived by wife Erika of Circle, son Dr. Tom Hastetter and wife Lisa of Evansville, Ind., daughter Judy Walter and husband Mike of Seattle, Wash. He has three granddaughters, Erika, Niamli, Adein and one grandson, Mikey, Jr.
One of Dr. Hastetter’s favorite sayings was “Life is a battle!”, he enjoyed every minute of it! His death was the easiest battle he ever fought. Dr. Hastetter’s family has chosen not to mourn this great loss, but to celebrate his Life. They cordially invite all who wish to come to his home for a wake in lieu of a formal memorial. After, according to his wishes, Dr. Hastetter’s ashes will be spread on his favorite ranch. Time and date will be announced later.

Rhonda Dee Barrett
BELGRADE – Rhonda Dee Barrett, 36, was born on Nov, 16, 1963, in Hardin, Mont., to her loving mother, Carole Zimmer-Warzeka, father, Edward “Cisco” Chavez, and brother, Ronald Chavez. The family relocated to Boise, Idaho, when Rhonda was three years old. Rhonda attended school in Boise. In 1980, Rhonda was married to Ramon Pedraza. On Nov. 1, 1980, Rhonda’s treasured son, Eric Pedraza, was born. After a few years with her wonderful little boy, Eric, she was given another great blessing. On March 16, 1983, her son, Ronnie Pedraza, was born. Rhonda was later divorced. Rhonda and her beloved sons traveled the United States with the Renaissance Fair. During the years with the Fair, Rhonda created and sold beautiful crystal jewelry. Rhonda and her sons relocated to Libby, Mont., for a few years, where she attended Flathead Community College Extension and obtained her GED. She worked at several deli’s until she became disabled. Rhonda married Tim Barrett. They were later divorced. She was living the past few years in Belgrade, Mont. Throughout her life, Rhonda was a champion scrabble player (she always won according to Grandma Marlys and the other defeated), a master puzzle worker, and a fabulous short story and journal entry writer.
Rhonda is survived by her mother, Carole Warzeka, and step-father, Ron Warzeka, both of Belgrade; son, Eric Pedraza of Marine Base 29 Palms, Calif.; son, Ronnie Pedraza of Belgrade; brother, Ronald Chavez, his wife and daughter all of Las Cruces, N.M.; grandmother, Marlys Zimmer, and numerous other relatives. Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, Edward “Cisco” Chavez; grandparents, Dave and Esther Chavez; cousin, Michelle Critchlow; grandfather, Herbert Zimmer; cousin, Ryan Caton; aunt, Julia; cousin, Rusty; and other beloved family.
She was loved so deeply, and yet she felt alone. She lived her life to the fullest. She wandered through this earth lost. All the while the Lord waited, watched, and worried. Finally, after many years of hardship, she asked for forgiveness for doing it all alone. The Lord said to her, “My beloved child, I am so overjoyed that you have decided to let me help you. I have missed your friendship. It will only be a little while and you shall get to come home. When you do, the world will no longer get in the way of our relationship. Welcome home, Rhonda, my Beloved Child.”
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Friday, May 26, in the Belgrade Christian Assembly Church. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Montana Affiliate, Inc. P.O. Box 2411, Great Falls, MT 59403. Cremation took place following the service.

John Alvin Fail
CAT CREEK – John Alvin Fail, 79, formerly of Winnett, died April 30, 2000, in Phoenix, Ariz., following a stroke.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Petroleum County Courthouse in Winnett, Mont.

Marguerite ‘Squirt’ Galle
On Friday morning, May 26, 2000, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marguerite “Squirt” Galle, made her final journey to that eternal fishing stream in Heaven. She was born at home on Dec. 27, 1918 in Billings, the daughter of Alvie and Gertie Leatherman. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Ralph; four sisters, Frances (Paul) Follett, Saraetta (Burley) Sackett, Edna (Frank) Merrill, and Katherine (Ray) Bruner; a grandson, Victor Hogge; and a nephew, Elmo Sackett.
Marguerite attended Garfield School and graduated from Billings High in 1938. After high school, she attended Johnstone Business School, which later became Billings Business College. As a young girl, Marguerite worked at Nickey’s and The Grand. She also worked for the Geological Survey and Pointer-Willamette. During World War II, she moved to Bremerton, Wash., where she worked in the shipyards until being called home to care for her ailing mother.
On Jan. 26, 1946, Marguerite married Henry R. “Bud” Galle in the parsonage of the First Methodist Church. They lived in Roundup, Mont., where they owned and operated a gas station. They also lived in Thermopolis, Wyo., where they were partners in a ranch on Owl Creek. In 1954, they moved back to Billings and have lived here ever since.
Marguerite’s greatest joy was taking care of her family. She took time out to be a Sunday school teacher and Brownie leader. She also worked for Helen Barkey Employment Service and later for the Gold Strike Stamp Store. Her favorite place was at the cabin on the West Rosebud that she and Bud built. There she enjoyed many hours fishing and entertaining family and friends.
A charter member of the Billings Caledonian Society, she loved doing the country dances and listening to the bagpipes. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Billings Friendship Chapter Order of Eastern Star, RSVP and a volunteer at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Along with fishing, she enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, belonging to the same pinochle club for over forty years.
Marguerite’s greatest joys were her two great-granddaughters, Morgan and Ashley Carlson. From the day they were born, she would rock them while singing little ditties or reading nursery rhymes. They will miss their “Gramma Reet”.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-four years, Bud; her daughter, Debbie Harms and her husband, Ron Weese; her granddaughter, Cindy (Joel) Carlson; and great-granddaughters, Morgan and Ashley Carlson all of Billings; her step-daughter, Roxie (Les) Little of Sterling, Alaska; six stepgrandchildren, Kathryn Dent of Colo., Bridgette Storeck of Calif., Henry Hogge, Darris Cress, April Weinrich, and Cheryl McGahan, all of Alaska; 16 step great-grandchildren; five step great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Although she has left us physically, she will always be in our hearts. We love you and will miss you, but you are in a much better place now.
Visitation will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist with cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at First United Methodist Church with private interment to follow in Mountview cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the AI Bedoo Shrine Transportation Trust Fund, P.O. Box 20673, Billings, MT 59104.

Matthew O’Donnell
BOZEMAN – Matthew O’Donnell, 38, died on Thursday, May 25, 2000, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Billings following a construction accident in Bozeman.
Memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 29 in the Resurrection Catholic Church. Vigil Service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Stevenson’s Funeral Home in Baker. A Christian Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the St. John’s Catholic Church in Baker. Interment will be in the St. John’s Catholic cemetery in Baker. Dokken Nelson Funeral Service of Bozeman and Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker are in charge.

Gilbert Scheffelmaer
MALTA – Gilbert Scheffelmaer, 82, died on Thursday, May 25, 2000, of natural causes at the Phillips County Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, at the Adams Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Malta cemetery.

John Robert Stallman
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – John Robert Stallman, 77, died on May 24, 2000, at the VA Medical Center of complications of a stroke.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, at the Sheridan Wesleyan Church. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 28 in the Manville, Wyo. cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

William ‘Bill’ Carriel Cotter
GREAT FALLS – William “Bill” Carriel Cotter, 61, died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at a local nursing home of multiple sclerosis. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, at O’Connor Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. May 27 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Cremation will follow the service. Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 600 Central Ave., Great Falls, MT.
Bill was born on Sept. 27, 1938, in Fairview Mont. He worked oil fields in Glendive, Mont., and worked for the Great Northern Railroad in Montana. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1961 at Glasgow Air Force Base and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on Feb. 11, 1971.
On June 8, 1963, he married Lillian Castle in Glasgow, Mont.
Bill enjoyed wood working, pool, spending time with friends and family. He belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, Senior Citizens of Great Falls, and Great Falls Pool League.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Cotter of Great Falls; daughter, Michele Marie Burger of Cheyenne, Wyo.; son, William Cotter Jr. of Hollister, Calif.; sisters, Marilyn Cotter of Athol, Idaho and Genevieve Weber of Alexander, N.D.; brothers, Ernie Cotter of Fairview, Mont., Richard Cotter of Billings, Jim Cotter of Laurel, and Phillip Cotter of Billings; four grandchildren.
