Norma S. Black
LOVELL, Wyo. – Norma Steven Black, 89, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at her home of natural causes.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, at Haskell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. in the Lovell LDS Stake Center on Friday, June 12. Interment will be in the Cowley cemetery.

Katherine Boettcher
Katherine Boettcher, 95, of Billings, passed away Friday morning, June 16, 2000, at Deaconess Medical Center. She was born on a farm near Viola, Idaho, on Aug. 15, 1904.
Katherine was raised and educated near Viola and graduated from high school in Palouse, Wash. Following graduation, she attended Washington State College and graduated in 1929 with a degree in home economics. On June 30, 1930, she married Walter A. Boettcher in Twin Falls, Idaho. They moved to Billings in 1955 and Walter preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1975. Katherine was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her two children, Robert W. Boettcher of Northbrook, Ill., and Louise M. Thomas of Topanga Canyon, Calif.; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Peace Lutheran Church, 1301 Ave. D. Memorials may be sent to Peace Lutheran Church, 1301 Ave. D., Billings, MT 59102.

Minnie Bundt
WESTBY – Minnie Bundt was born on Jan. 10, 1894, to Wilhelm and Anna Goedecke in Manford, N.D. She was christened as Wilhemina Elsa Marica Emma Goedecke. In 1916, Minnie married Emil Bundt, a butcher from Augusta, Wis. They lived in Manford for several years, where they owned a meat market. When the depression hit, they moved to Crookston, Minn., later moving west to Shelby, then back east to Crosby, N.D., and finally, in 1932, to Westby, Mont.
Emil and Minnie had six children: William, Irene, Raymond (Buddy), Elaine, Marvin (Gene), and Dorothy. While in Westby, Minnie’s involvement with the community was extensive. Minnie’s father was a tailor by trade from Germany and had taught her how to sew. With this sewing background, she was appointed supervisor of theWorks Progress Administration. Some of the WPA projects were to sew clothes for the needy, as well as maintain a Victory Garden of potatoes, carrots, etc. She later prepared this food into school lunches, along with other commodities supplied by the government. Minnie baked and cooked for the Westby School lunch program from 1932 until 1938. She then worked at Westby Meat and Grocery from 1939 through 1954. In the fall of 1954, Minnie once again accepted the job as school cook, which she maintained for the next 22 years.
Minnie retired at the age of 84 but certainly didn’t sit by idly. She used this free time to knit and crochet hundreds of doilies and afghans for her relatives. Minnie was also a very active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, Birthday Circle, Jolly Twelve, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her favorite pastimes included playing cards and bingo. One of the major highlights of her life was being crowned Queen of Westby’s Diamond Jubilee in 1988.
Minnie had a very active, busy, life, living at home until 1996, when she entered the Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home. Minnie died Monday morning, June 19, 2000.
Minnie is survived by four children: William and his wife, Helen of Kalispell; Elaine and her husband, Stewart Anderson of Minneapolis; Gene and his wife, Waldren of Minneapolis; Dorothy and her husband, Robert Leininger of Westby. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil, in 1944; her parents; two children, son Raymond Bunch, daughter Irene Overgaard, and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 23, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pastor Barb Westhoff officiating. Interment will be in the Westby cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pollyann M. Esten
Pollyann M. Esten, of Billings, passed away peacefully June 17, 2000, at Valley Health Care facility. Pollyann was born to Henry G. and Agnes (Snyder) Melton, in Norfolk, Va. She attended and graduated from Hudson High School. In 1943, she was united in marriage to Robert F. Esten, in Madison, Wis. They made their home in Madison before moving to Billings where Robert worked for Greyhound.
She worked for the Billings Gazette in the ad department. Pollyann enjoyed playing golf, traveling and loved to square dance with her husband Robert.
She is survived by her sister, Eleanor Peck, and several nephews and nieces, and very dear friends, the Schaffer family, and Tea and Fritz Coberg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1986.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Montana Rescue Mission, 2822 Minnesota Ave. Billings, MT 59101 or First Presbyterian Church, 2420 13th Street West, Billings, MT 59102.

Veulis ‘Jack’ Long
THERMOPOLIS – Veulis L. “Jack” Long, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Moritmore Funeral Home who are also in charge of arrangements.

Pierre ‘Dick’ Rivet
SIDNEY – Pierre “Dick” Rivet, 84, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park, Sidney.

Dennis Wheadon
MILES CITY – Dennis Wheadon, 53, died Monday, June 19, 2000, as a result of a farm accident.
Visitation will begin Thursday. Prayer services will be held Thursday, June 22, at 6 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 23, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Veteran Section of the Custer County cemetery with full military rites.

Warren W. Wittgow
LEWISTOWN – Warren W. Wittgow, 79, died Monday at his home after a long battle with cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Central Montana Memorial Gardens with memorial services to follow at 11 a.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Kathryn A. Yasenosky
POPLAR – Kathryn A. Yasenosky, 80, died on Sunday, June 18, 2000, at the Poplar Nursing Home of natural causes.
Visitations are Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, at the Church. Interment will be at the Poplar City cemetery in Poplar. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Lorn H. Kaercher
Lorn H. Kaercher, 81, of Billings flew with the Angels on June 20, 2000. He was born Dec. 3, 1918, on a homestead in the Rudyard area. Lorn was the son of Norman W. and Nettie (Angus) Kaercher. He attended a country school and graduated from Rudyard High.
Lorn spent several years in the Army in the South Pacific during WWII, where he received the Purple Heart. After the war, he worked in Havre, where he met and married Maxine Smotherman in 1947. They had three sons, Marvin, Dennis, and Tracy. He worked in oil exploration for many years and retired from J.R. Simplot Co. in 1981.
After retiring, he enjoyed traveling with Maxine in their RV, wintering in Yuma, Ariz., and spending the summers camping in Montana. His hobbies included woodcarving, gardening and playing cards.
Lorn was a devoted husband, father and brother, and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Maxine; son, Dennis and wife, Gail; son, Tracy and wife, Audrey; daughter-in-law, Mary Kaercher Hopstad; three grandchildren, Dan of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brooke and Riley; and brother, Lloyd Kaercher and family of Havre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marvin, and three brothers.
Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings, with a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to The American Diabetes Association, 2526 Sixth Ave. N., Ste. 216, Billings, 59101. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Royal W. Morey
Royal W. Moray, 51, of Billings, was born to Henry and Florence Paus Morey Aug. 18, 1948, in Glasgow. He died Sunday, June 18, 2000, at his home in Billings. He graduated from Opheim High School in 1966 and was employed by Farmers Union and Westland Oil in Opheim.
He went to Billings Automotive and obtained a service job in Great Falls. After graduating from a parts school in Great Falls, he worked for Valley Motors in Glasgow and later at Michels Parts Store in Buffalo, Wyo. In 1989, he moved back to Billings and attended Denver Business College, graduating in 1991. He was then employed by Sysco until time of death.
Royal was an avid fisherman, enjoyed bowling and loved his family, especially his six nieces. He is survived by his mother, Florence of Opheim; two brothers, Dale (Micki) of Culbertson, and Michael (Patricia) of Waldorf, Md. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry and brother, James.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, at First Lutheran Church in Opheim and memorial in Billings at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 29, at Peace Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Pierre ‘Dick’ Rivet
SIDNEY – Pierre “Dick” Rivet, 84, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park.

Vernon (Grr) Wesley Cloninger
BOZEMAN – Vernon (Grr) Wesley Cloninger died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, while hunting mushrooms near Cameron Bridge, outside of Bozeman.
Grr, 73, was born in Bozeman on March 21, 1927, the fourth of six children born to Effie and Lester Cloninger. His parents, brother Ray, and sisters Ester (Pruitt) and Luciel (Mattson) preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Navy and saw active duty in the South Pacific at the end of WWII. He was honorably discharged on July 30, 1946. Grr married his high school sweet heart, Marilyn DeJardine in 1948. They had three children and 23 years of marriage together before divorcing in 1971.
A carpenter by trade, Grr lived most of his life in Bozeman but moved to Billings nine years ago to be closer to his youngest daughter and family.
Grr is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Tom) Law and grandson, Alex of Pleasanton, Calif.; son, Michael Cloninger of Richland, Wash.; daughter, Nancy (Bruce) Fisher and grandson, Ryan and granddaughter, Mackenzie of Billings, Mont.; his ex-wife and friend, Marilyn Weber of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Lee (Lola) Cloninger of Helena; sister, JoAnn (Lou) Lucke of Havre, Mont.; sister-in-law, Betty Cloninger of Belgrade, Mont.; brother-in-law Chuck Pruitt of Bozeman and numerous nieces and nephews.
Grr thoroughly enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and boating. He had a fall elk hunt on horseback planned with his son, Mike and son-in-law, Bruce. He dearly loved his three grandchildren and they will surely miss his “bugging”. Grr always wanted to return to Bozeman and “chasing the elusive Morel Mushroom” got him back home one final time.
We love you and miss you, Grr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24, at 1 p.m. at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Hills cemetery. Memorials in his name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.

William C. Gambill
ROSEBURG, Ore. – William C. Gambill, 71, formerly of Billings, died on May 18, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 22, in the Garden Valley Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Chapel of the Roses is in charge.

Ida Fae Gilman
MILES CITY – Ida Fae Gilman, 85, died on May 16, 2000, in the Friendship Villa Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Calvary cemetery.

Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Hoem
Elizabeth A. “Betty” Hoem, 68, of Billings, passed away May 19, 2000, at the Deaconess Hospital after a short battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 31, 1931, in Seattle, Wash., a daughter of Daniel P. and Mabel C. Rosted. She moved to Kelso, N.D. (Post Farm) at age 1 1/2. She attended schools at Kelso and Hilisboro, N.D., Faribault and Minneapolis, Minn.
She married Harold E. Hoem in 1952 and lived in the Martinsdale and Harlowton areas. The family moved to Billings in 1969. She worked or Bert Lillis Insurance from 1974 through 1996. Betty was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution, where she was past Chapter Regent. She was also a member of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and the Audubon Society. She was an avid bird watcher and loved to read.
Survivors include two daughters, Dinae of Denver, Colo., and Renee of Mulino, Ore.; two sisters, Dora Wolfe of Woodland Park, Colo., and Karen Brown of Blanchard, N.D.; and her ex-husband, Harold “Hal” Hoem of Harlowton. Betty was always very proud of her two constant companions (cats), Irish and Shadow. She leaves behind numerous friends and family.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 13th and Crawford. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107 or the Audubon Society, P.O. Box 1075, Billings, MT 59103. Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.
