James (Jim) Anthony Rehbein
James (Jim) Anthony Rehbein, 63 years old, of Helena passed from this life into eternity on February 1, 2012.
Jim was born in Shelby, Montana on September 24, 1948 to James H. and Beverly Lindvig Rehbein. Jim was the first born of six children. Jim attended Saint Matthew’s grade school and Sidney High School until his junior year when the family moved to Miles City. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1966. He was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, track and his favorite sport baseball.
In 1967 he married Sally Olson. They had two children, Lisa Jo and Scott. Jim and Sally divorced in 1978. In March of 1979, he married Kathleen Barrett. They were married for 21 years.
Jim enjoyed woodworking and was an avid gardener. Growing roses was his specialty. He was an ardent fisherman and taught his children and grandchildren to fish. He also enjoyed reading books, particularly westerns, and watching the History Channel and sports, especially the Little League World Series.
After retiring as a sales representative for Associated Foods, he built two beautiful homes in the Flathead Valley. He worked part time in a hardware store and would go to customer’s homes after hours to help them and make sure they got the right materials for the job they were doing.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Lisa Jo Evans; her husband, Heath; their three daughters, Kelsey, Joelle, and Piper of Colorado Springs, CO; his son, Scott Rehbein, his wife, Becky and his two sons, Walter of San Antonio, TX; and Austin of Plentywood of MT.
He is also survived by his parents, Jim and Beverly of Kalispell; Charlie and Georgie Rehbein of Helena and their three children and grandchildren; Roberta Rehbein and her son of Helena; Margaret Hartman of Helena and her two children and grandchildren; Joe and Kathy Rehbein of Bozeman and their three children; Lois Rehbein and her son of Kalispell; plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Foundation by visiting www.diabetes.org. A memorial service was at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 6th at Anderson Stevenson Wilke Funeral Home, 3750 N. Betty Lou Ley
Betty Lou Ley lost her battle with lung cancer at her home February 1, 2012. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
Betty Lou was born in San Francisco, CA on February 2, 1943.
At 21, she married the love of her life, Johnny Ley.
In between cheering for Johnny at rodeos, she was a Rodeo Secretary and worked as a bookkeeper for Glendive Stockyards, Miles City Stockyards, and Stockman Bank of Miles City. After Jona (daughter) was born, they moved to Jordan, Montana to work on the Binion Ranch.
Shortly after Tim (son) was born, they moved to Worden, Montana and Betty Lou began bookkeeping for the Rural Electric Coop. Betty Lou then took on more clients such as Shelhamer’s United Tote/Cabin Creek Ranch; R. Dale Small Lvstk; and Devine and Son Lvstk. When her mom (Bonnie Venable) retired from PAYS, Betty Lou took on the office manager position. After retiring from PAYS, she added Sam and Leo McDonnell and Midland Bull Test until finally resigning last month due to health.
Never really retiring from work, Betty Lou spent almost 6 decades doing bookkeeping; 47 years of Marriage; 46 years of motherhood; and 23 years of grandmotherhood.
Betty Lou leaves behind: her husband Johnny Ley; daughter Jona; son Tim (Monica) Ley; granddaughters Amanda Millard, Emily Ley, Jenna Ley, Laura Ley; grandson Nathan Ley; sisters Suzi (Roger (deceased)) Steffanich, Kay (Bob) McDermott, Rita Venable (Ron Oens), Terry (Al) French; brother Tom Venable (Charity Aguirre); stepbrother Donald Joe Venable; Special cousin Bev Knuths and Aunt Laverne Pauley. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceeded in death by her sister Linda Lee Venable; parents N. Don and Bonnie Venable; grandparents Les (Dadoe) and Ethel Boe.
Special Thank You to Riverstone Hospice (Beth, Stacy, Meadow, Ashley).
In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Riverstone Hospice, St.Bernards Parish, or any charity of their choice.
Funeral Services are Monday, February 6, 2012, at St. Bernard’s Parish in Billings at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.

Aaron W. Johnson
Aaron W. Johnson, infant son of Jaycee Peltzer and KC Johnson, died suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in Miles City.
Aaron was born on Nov. 27, 2011, in Miles City, the son of KC Johnson and Jaycee Peltzer. Although Aaron’s time on earth was short, he was in the process of learning how to sit up, laugh and was cooing. He will certainly be missed by all.
Aaron is survived by his mother: Jaycee Peltzer of Miles City; his father: KC Johnson of Bartlesville, Okla.; his grandparents: Robert and Susan Peltzer of Kirkland, Wash., and Kim and Chuck Johnson of Miles City; his great-grandparents: Debbie and Jerry Johnson of Poplar, June and Walter Clark of Frazer, Charles and Kyna Rickett of Billings, and Evelyn and Gary Barnaby of Wibaux; and his aunts: Jeri Johnson of Lawrence, Kan., and Breeana Barnaby of Wibaux.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother: Kimberly Rickett; and a great-grandmother: Sissy Levay.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.

LaVerne Spear
LaVerne Spear, 91, of Miles City died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
She was born in Helena on Dec. 15, 1920, the daughter of Walter Warren and Margaret McElhaney.
She married Alfred Beck on Oct. 27, 1941. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Trudy and Julie. She later married Grant Spear and two step-daughters, Sally and Sue, joined the family.
Mrs. Spear was part of an early-day pioneer family in the Helena Valley. The Pioneer Cabin in Last Chance Gulch was her grandparents’ home and still remains as a landmark in historic Helena. Mrs. Spear lost her mother at an early age and spent many years with her sisters in an orphanage. She began working at the young age of 12 as a housemaid in the home of Judge Stewart in Helena.
She was adventurous and some of her most memorable experiences included travel throughout Mexico, Ireland and Alaska. In her later years, she returned to her hometown of Helena where she coordinated the Mended Hearts program at St. Peter’s Hospital and renewed old friendships. In 2005, she moved to the Eagles Manor in Miles City where she met many dear friends. She most recently lived at the Extended Care Unit at Holy Rosary Healthcare and felt tremendously blessed to have such excellent care and good friendships.
Mrs. Spear had a love of learning her entire life. She attended Montana State College in Bozeman and worked as an accountant for Kaiser Permanente in Montana and Oakland, Calif.; finishing her work career in Seattle coordinating supplies for Alaska construction companies. She was a handwriting analyst and a licensed Master Graphologist, which was a logical extension of her love for mystery stories.
She was a wonderful cook and seamstress. Mrs. Spear spent 20 years as a 4-H leader teaching her daughters and others to appreciate life skills. Mrs. Spear made friends wherever she went and always took notice of the needs of others. She deeply loved her family and had a unique way of making each one of them feel special in her life. She had an exceptionally close bond with both of her daughters, Trudy and Julie, and she will be greatly missed in their daily lives. Her courage and determination were inspirations to all who knew her. Mrs. Spear was loved by many and was an incredibly classy lady.
Her survivors include her two daughters: Trudy (Harry) Angel of Seattle, Wash., and Julie (Butch) Krutzfeldt of Miles City; two step-daughters: Sally (Bill) Bauer of Leavenworth, Wash., and Sue (Gary) Marchioro of Salem, Ore.; a sister: Dorothy McEnaney of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren: Janette (Corey) Jones, Steve (Julie) Krutzfeldt, Jeanie (Andrew) Kalotay, Tyler (Pamela) Krutzfeldt, Carrie (Jon) David, Jeff (Sandra) Marchioro and Cindy Marchioro; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City.

Timothy McKinley Justice
Timothy McKinley “Tim” Justice, 48, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, in the St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck. N.D., as a result of heart arrest and related complications.
He was born in Benton, Ark., on Aug. 15, 1963, to William F. Justice Sr. “Red” and Charlene N. Moore Justice.
Mr. Justice lived in the Billings area for most of his life and resided there at the time of his death. He spent part of his childhood and teenage years in the Miles City area where he graduated from Custer County District High School.
He had the opportunity to learn two very different trades in his lifetime. During his younger years, while living on the Scott Ranch, just outside of Miles City, he learned the trade of farming and ranching under the direction of his step-father, Kenny Jones.
After graduation from high school, he got his start in the carpentry trade by working with his father, Red Justice, and his brothers, who are all in the construction business.
Mr. Justice was the best at whatever he put his hand to. He loved people unconditionally, and was generous beyond measure. His final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ donation. He will be missed greatly by friends and family.
His survivors include his father, Red Justice of Billings and his step-mother, Josetta Justice, of Billings; his brothers, Bill Justice and Patrick Justice, both of Billings, David Justice of Bridgeport, Ala., Michael Justice of Decatur, Texas, and Eddie Jones of Dayton, Wyo.; his sisters, Charlene Justice DeWitt of Henryetta, Okla., Rachael Jones Ridenour of West Yellowstone and Dawn Justice of Billings; sisters-in-law, April Justice, Patricia Justice and Rose Whitesell; brothers-in-law, Allen Ridenour and Michael DeWitt; and many other family members and friends from all around the country.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Charlene Neoma Jones; and his step-father, Edgar Kenneth Jones.
Memorial services will be in Billings on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1000 Wicks Lane, Billings, MT 59105.

Charles Damm
Mr. Damm was born on July 30, 1917, to Matthew and Pearl Damm at the ranch house where he lived until he died Tuesday, April 3, 2007.
Adeline Neiman was midwife at his birth. He received his education in country schools, graduating from the eighth grade. He spent the rest of his life on the ranch and never married .
He liked to carpenter and built most of the buildings at the ranch. When his folks got old, he took care of them until their deaths.
Mr. Damm liked to take pictures and had a box full of ones he took. He also was an avid card player. He traveled a lot and most of the vacations he took were down south during the winter months. He went to Australia on a trip by himself once on a tour sponsored by a travel agency.
He was a longtime member of the Masons (57 years) and the Shriners (35 years).
His survivors include his brother, Stanley (Georgia) Damm; a sister-in-law, Helen Damm; and his seven nieces and nephews, Cheri (Earl) Alt, Deanna (Larry) Hay, Vicki Damm, Shawn (Corrina) Damm, Gregory (Debbie) Damm, Rick (Sheila) Damm, and Bonnie (Stanley) Powell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lynn; a niece, Sonia Damm Wilson; and a nephew, Spencer Damm.
A funeral service will be Monday, April 9, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the Powder River Congregational Church in Broadus. Interment will be at a later date on the family ranch.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Mary Wallick Connor
Mary Wallick Connor, 43, passed away April 3rd, 2007, at Kansas University Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was the 5th of 6 children born to Dr. William T. and Avis Wallick in Miles City, MT on November 5, 1963. Mary graduated from Custer County High School in 1981. She then moved to Minneapolis and graduated from St. Catherine’s University with a degree in marketing.
She met Ed Connor and they were married in Minneapolis on August 22, 1987. They moved to Kansas and Mary became a dedicated and loving Mother, wife and friend to all who know her.
She is preceded in death by her Father, William T. Wallick in 1985, and her daughters, Allie Connor in 1996 and Stella Connor in 2004, both from Fanconi’s Leukemia.
She is survived by her husband Ed Connor and their children John and Sophie of the family home. Survivors also include her mother Avis Wallick of MN, sister Nancy (Tom) Boegeman of MN, brother William Wallick (Jody) of Miles City, brother Michael Wallick (Michelle) of MN, brother Paul Wallick of MN and sister Susan (Andy) Stavros also of MN, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held April 9th at 10 a.m. at the Church of Ascension in Overland Park, KS, with burial to follow at the Resurrection cemetery in Lenexa, KS.

Rose Marie Carpenter
Rose Marie Carpenter, 72, of Miles City died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at the Holy Rosary Healthcare in Miles City.
Born on March 17, 1935, in Manton, Mich., she was the daughter of Walter and Caroline Hirdning.
She and her late husband, Louis Carpenter Sr., were married on April 21, 1958, and they had five children. Together with their children, they moved to Miles City in 1974.
Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker, staying home to care for her children and grandchildren. Once her children were older she was employed at the Miles City Cab as a dispatcher, Red Rock Motel and Café as a cook and house keeping, and she retired from Flying J in 1981.
Watching game shows was her favorite pastime. She also enjoyed “Little House on the Prairie” re-runs, Food Network and the Price is Right.
She enjoyed the game of baseball. Her favorite team was the Detroit Tigers and she and her husband watched the games together, cheering them on.
Mrs. Carpenter was a caring and loving grandma who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to go on drives with her husband, Louis. She also looked forward to the Christmas Season and driving around looking at all the lights.
She loved to cook, making everything from scratch; was an avid reader; and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She was an independent woman, not wanting others to worry about her. She was always looking out for her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Mrs. Carpenter enjoyed thunderstorms and the smell of the air when it rained.
Her survivors include her sister, Lola Hirdning; her brothers, Terry Hirdning, Wallace Hirdning and William “Bill” Hirdning; her children: Bonnie and Linda Hirdning of Michigan, Carol Johnson of Miles City, Tina (Dwayne) Bruce of Miles City, Louis Jr. (Carmen) Carpenter of Bear Lake, MI, Kim (Mike) Neibauer of Miles City and Billy Joe (Jodi) Carpenter of Cadillac, MI; her grandchildren: Candy Carpenter, Harold “Pete” Woehl, Samantha (Jeff) Cookman, Raymond (Tara) Emeline, Andy, Mick and Josette Neibauer, Corey Bruce and Heather and Allen Carpenter; her great-grandchildren, Dominic and Cole Emeline and Christopher Cookman; and her unborn great-grandchildren: Olivia Cookman, and twins James and Julianna Emeline.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hirdning; her husband, Louis James Sr.; and her great-granddaughters, Katie Rae and Erika Rose Emeline.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 6, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will be at a later date.

Helen Eileen Strom
A memorial service for Helen Eileen Strom, 78, of Spokane, Wash., former Miles City resident, was held Saturday morning, March 31, 2007, at Fairmont Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Strom died Wednesday, March 21, 2007.
She grew up in Fairview. During her high school years, she had a love of music and was encouraged to pursue a singing career. Instead she chose to pursue her second interest, nursing.
Mrs. Strom graduated as a Registered Nurse from Holy Rosary Hospital Nursing School in Miles City in 1949.
She and Robert C. Strom were married while she was attending nursing school. They moved to Spokane in 1953 and she worked at Sacred Heart Hospital, attaining a supervisory position as head floor nurse.
Later she took a position as office nurse for Rockwood Clinic and finally she served as private duty nurse and was president of the Private Duty Nurses Association in Spokane. She retired in 1977.
Mrs. Strom never gave up her passion for music and became a choir member and soloist with Liberty Park Methodist Church.
After her husband’s retirement, the couple summered in Bayview, Idaho, and wintered in Yuma, Ariz.
Mrs. Strom enjoyed water aerobics, Tournament Bridge and socializing with friends.
Her survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Robert, also a former Miles City resident; four sons, Steven, Gary, Gerry and Dennis; two daughters-in-law; a brother; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandchild.

Herschel Kenneth "H.K." Riley
Herschel Kenneth “H.K.” Riley, 93, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007, in Jordan.
He was born Jan. 30, 1914, in Grass Range to Robert R. and Edna Vannoy Riley. In the spring, the family traveled by wagon and on foot to their homestead in the Brusett area where they proved up on their claim. After the required amount of time living on their homestead, the family moved to Canada, but came back to the United States in 1920. Mr. Riley attended schools in Canada, Oregon and Montana until he was in the eighth grade.
He then worked various jobs such as trailing cattle, breaking horses and helping his parents with their dairy business.
During the 1930s, he worked at any job he could find, in the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp building roads, as a powder monkey for a dynamite crew, for the state, the county and the WPA building roads and on the construction of the Ft. Peck Dam.
He and Margaret Benson were united in marriage in 1935 and to that union three children were born, Gene, Mona and Dawn. The couple later divorced.
In the early 1940s, Mr. Riley worked on the airbase in Great Falls and played cards for a living in Great Falls and Mountain Home, Idaho.
He was united in marriage to Wilma Mury on April 6, 1943, and they would have celebrated their 64th anniversary in April. Two daughters were born to that union, Lyn and Kay.
Mr. Riley was inducted into the Army in June of 1943 and he served as a Dog Trainer for the K-9 corp in the China Burma India Theatre and for the Office of Strategic Service (OSS) in top secret work. His K-9 unit served with Merrill’s Marauders, the Mars Task Force and various sub units for scout and reconnaissance detail in Burma. He was discharged from the service in July of 1945.
He then worked as a carpenter’s apprentice and drove tanker until 1946 when he bought Kester’s trucking business in Jordan where he continued to truck until 1968. He then operated a feed business until he retired, after which time he stayed busy helping friends.
A charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars White Post No. 7886, Mr. Riley received his 60-year pin in 2006.
Mr. Riley had been a resident of Garfield County all of his life and always said that he wanted nothing more than to live and die on the Big Dry.
His survivors include his wife, Wilma; his children, Gene Riley, Mona (Dan) Beringer, Dawn Rookhuizen, Lyn Riley and Kay (Floyd) Beecher; his grandchildren, Echo (Sam) Kampf, Craig (Sherrie) Riley, Jay Jensen, Taryl Jensen, Eric (Phuong Lynn) Jensen, Heather (Troy) Wallace, Derek Rookhuizen, Bryce (Kristin) Beecher and Charles (Kacey) Beecher; his great-grandchildren, Felicia and Tessa Kampf, Shalena and Liam Riley, Kierre Jensen, Mai Lynn and Vi Lynn Jensen, Faith Riley Wallace, Seeley Riley Beecher; and a Beecher great-granddaughter due to arrive in May.
Survivors also include his sister, Fay Ziegele; and special extended family, John D. and Mary Alice Murnion and Bev (Joe) Murnion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna Riley; his brothers, Edgar and Moyne Riley; and his great-granddaughter, Sierra Kampf.
Cremation has taken place and a private family going away celebration will be held at a later date.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the VFW Building Fund, the Garfield County Ambulance Fund or to the charity of one’s choice. Memorial card pamphlets for Mr. Riley may be picked up at the Garfield County Bank in Jordan.
