Betty Brinkley

ARCHDALE - Mrs. Betty Passmore Brinkley, 57, of Archdale died Sunday, April 6, 2008.

Born March 28, 1951, in Hobbs, NM, she was a daughter to the late Fred and Mary Frazier Passmore. She was a member of Glenola Baptist Church and was retired from the City of High Point. On March 10, 1967, she was married to John Anthony "Tony" Brinkley who survives of the home.

Also surviving are her two sons: Michael Anthony Brinkley, Sr. and wife Heidi Bryan, and Scott Brinkley and wife Pam all of Trinity; two grandchildren Sydney Brinkley and Michael Anthony Brinkley, Jr.; two brothers: Doyle Passmore of California and James Passmore of Denton; and four sisters: Doris Cattell, Joyce Jones and Shirley Passmore all of Trinity, and Alice Saintsing of Thomasville.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenola Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Dr. Joe D. Coltrane. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Mrs. Brinkley was and will always be loved and cherished by her husband who will miss her forever and ever. She was the best mom and was always there for her boys, and she was the best Nan in the whole world to Sydney and Michael, Jr. who will always miss her. We know she is an angel in Heaven because she was an angel here on earth.

The family requests that memorials be made to either the March of Dimes NC Chapter: 410 Brookstown Ave. Winston-Salem, NC 27101; or to Glenola Baptist Church: 8330 US Hwy 311, Archdale, NC 27263.

ASHEBORO - Gene Leon Rives, 72, died April 6, 2008.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Forest Park Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro.

James Swittenberg Jr.

THOMASVLLE - James Swittenberg, Jr., 86, of Bowerwood Drive died April 6, 2008, at Hospice of Home of High Point.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Hunter-Swittenburg Funeral Home Thomasville.

Katherine Bird

THOMASVILLE - Katherine Elizabeth Bird, 86, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Born on December 14, 1921, in Taswell County, Virginia to Levi Thomas and Mary Louise Powers Pruitt. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don Bird, her son Earl Knight, brother James Henry Pruitt, and her sisters Goldie Crawford and Ida Belle Hutchinson.

Worked as a home care Certified Nursing Assistant. Member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in High Point. Liked to go to church, sewing, telling jokes, shopping and travel.

Survived by sisters Margie P. Martin and Ollie P. Trent, both of Thomasville.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.. on Wednesday April 9, 2008 at Family Funeral Care in Thomasville. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Family Funeral Care Chapel with Pastor Floyd Edwards of Mount Zion Baptist Church officiating followed by interment in Floral Gardens Memorial Park.

Joe Snider

NEW LONDON - Mr. Joe Snider, age 83, of 323 Badin View Dr. died Monday April 7, 2008, at his residence.

He was born March 27, 1925, in Davidson Co. son of Ben Snider and Lizzie Frank Snider. Mr. Snider was a Supervisor with Thomasville Furniture Ind. Plant A retiring in 1984 with 38 years of service. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. Mr. Snider was a member of Highland Baptist Church in New London, NC. He was married June 5, 1945 to Eva Russell Snider who survives of the home. Also surviving are, Two daughters, Rita Bradshaw and husband Wesley of Thomasville, Sydney Rabe and husband William of New London, NC; One son, Chris Snider and wife Julie of Asheboro, NC; One Half Sister, Margie Loflin of Lexington, NC; Twelve Grandchildren and Fourteen Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday April 9, 2008, in J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Paul Crews and Rev. Barry Surratt officiating. The interment will be in Forest Hill cemetery in Lexington. The family will be at the Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to Highland Baptist Church Mission Fund 106 Highland Dr. New London, NC 28127.

Charles Binkley

LEXINGTON - Charles A. Binkley, 81, died April 7, 2008, at Alston Brook of Lexington.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. There will be no visitation.

Davidson Funeral Home Inc, Winston-Salem is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Yarbrough

LEXINGTON - N. Frank Yarbrough, 89, died April 6, 2008, at Wake Forest University Medical Center.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Norman Drum

THOMASVILLE - Mr. Norman Drum 82, passed away on April 5, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.

Born on July 20, 1925, in Maiden, NC to the late Albert M. Drum and Lola Banoy Drum. Norman attended Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church. He was in the textile industry and retiring from Burlington Industries in 1990. Norman was in the US Navy in World War II serving on Destroy Ulvert M. Moore DE 442 in Pacific commanded by Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. He was married to Peggy Baker Wood in 1974 until her death in 1994.

He is survived by two grandchildren Becky Everhart and Billy Wood and wife Sara and their daughter who all looked after me and were my caretaker; one nephew Steven Drum of Maiden

Graveside service will be held on Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Holly Hill cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends following the service.

Memorial may be made to Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church, 107 Arrington Dr. Lexington, NC 27295.

Lisa Cranford

THOMASVILLE - Ms. Lisa Ann Cranford, 45, a resident of 980 Tower Road, died Friday afternoon, April 4, 2008, in the Forsyth Medical Center. She was born November 10, 1962, in Thomasville, a daughter of Dewey Welborn, Jr. and Thelma Toney Welborn. She was a resident of Thomasville all of her life and was a member of Reavis Memorial Baptist Church in High Point. She was preceded in death by her father.

Surviving are her son, Christopher Lee Cranford of the home; her mother and step-father, Thelma T. and William "Pete" Gobble of the home; a sister, Sharon K. Sink of Thomasville; a niece, Candice Sink and a nephew Derek Sink.

A Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 10, 2008, at 7 p.m. in Reavis Memorial Baptist Church, 711 Knightdale Avenue, High Point with Pastor Darryl Love officiating.

Mozelle Johnson

THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Mozelle B. Johnson, 88, went home to be with her Lord & Savior on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Britthaven of Davidson. She was born on December 29, 1919, in Davidson County to the late John Bodenheimer and Mary Jeanette Chapel Bodenheimer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a husband, Burl Clifford Coggins on May 19, 1975, and two brothers, Basil and Bernard Bodenheimer.

Surviving are her husband, Earl Johnson of Thomasville; two sons, Nolan Coggins and his wife Pat of Conover, NC and Michael Coggins and his wife Peggy of Thomasville; brother, Jerry Bodenheimer of Winston-Salem; sister, Mabel McKinnon of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Matt Coggins of Thomasville and Kelli Coggins of Atlanta; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ben K. Shepherd and Rev. Pete Bumgarner officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and at other times at the home of her son, Michael Coggins. Memorials may be directed to Bethel UMC Building Fund, c/o Jerri Edwards, 915 Ballpark Rd. Thomasville, NC 27360.

William Owen

CHARLOTTE - William Marion "Bill" Owen, 72, died April 4, 2008, at his home.

A private memorial service for his family will be held at a later date.

J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, is assisting the family.

Lela Johnson

MOORESVILLE - Lela Morrow Johnson, age 92, of 872 Shearer Road, Mooresville, NC died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at Summit Place. She was born in Iredell County July 16, 1915, daughter of the late Bruce and Ida Cohen Morrow. She was retired from Burlington Mills. Her husband, Cecil Johnson died February 13, 2007.

Survivors include: two daughters, Donna Scoppa and husband, Peter of Fayetteville, AR and Gay Wyche of Thomasville, NC; and two grandsons, Jason and David Scoppa.

Funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Shearer Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Stout in charge, burial in Glenwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 8th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Neill Funeral Home.

ASHEBORO - Richard Keith "Buck" Hammond, 84, died April 3, 2008.

Memorial service will be held at noon Friday at the home, 6056 Old N.C. 49 South, Asheboro. Visitation will be at the home.

Fred Pratt

THOMASVILLE - Fred Bryan Pratt, 68, died April 5, 2008, at his home.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Family Funeral Care Chapel.

Charles Cranford

THOMASVILLE - Mr. Charles Ray Cranford, 64, a resident of Thomasville died Friday, June 6, 2008, at Hospice Home of High Point. Charles, or "Hoot" as he was known by his family and friends was born December 10, 1943, in Thomasville a son of Jesse Cranford and Thelma Godfrey Cranford. He graduated from Thomasville High School in 1962 where he earned All-American honors in football and went on to receive a degree in Accounting and Business Administration from East Carolina University. His professional career included 26 years with Clarendon Industries and 15 years at Mickey Truck Bodies of High Point. He was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville where he was a member of the R. L. Pope Bible Class. He was also a former member and past president of the Thomasville Jaycees. On August 27, 1966 he was married to Miss Virginia (Ginger) Evans who survives of the home. Also surviving is a daughter, Ms Jennifer Cranford Craddock and granddaughters, Camille and Claire Craddock, all of Thomasville; a son, John Charles Cranford of Raleigh; a sister, Mrs. Shelby Hampton of Thomasville; a brother, Darold Cranford and his wife Rhonda of Edgewood, TX. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Cranford of Thomasville. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. Ivan H. M. Peden and the Rev. Peggy A. Finch. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the hour of service. The family will receive friends at the Christian Enrichment Center of Memorial United Methodist Church Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262 or to Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 428, Thomasville, NC 27361. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Hospice of the Piedmont, Carolina Pain Institute, NC Baptist Hospital, our church family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues for their continuous support through Charles' lengthy illness.

Christopher Hunt

HIGH POINT - Christopher "Chris" Lee Hunt, age 29, of High Point died June 3, 2008, at his residence.

Chris was born in High Point on July 1, 1978, to James "Jimmy" Alton Hunt Jr. and Deanna McCandless Hunt. He was of the Baptist faith and was presently employed with Flowers Bakery in Jamestown in the shipping department. Chris was a devoted Tony Stewart race fan and was a supporter of all the Duke sports activities. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold "Papa" McCandless.

Chris is survived by his daughter, Destiny Taylor Hunt of Archdale, his Mother, Deanna Gunter of Denton and his Father, James, "Jimmy" Hunt, Jr. of Greensboro; his Paternal Grandparents, James A. Hunt, Sr. of Archdale and Shirley Hunt of Rural Hall; and his Maternal Grandmother, Wanda "Nana" McCandless of High Point.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Jewel Baptist Church by Reverend Jeff Dawkins. The family will be at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and at other times at Chris's home.

Lillie Smith

HIGH POINT - Mrs. Lillie Bell Smith, resident of Britthaven of Davidson and formerly of Wesleyan Arms and Paramount St. in High Point died June 4, 2008, at the age of 96.

Lillie was born in Horry County SC. To the late Mayham and Lillian McCormick Mishoe. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry Smith who she married on December 24, 1929, her parents; one sister and six brothers.

Lillie was of the Wesleyan faith and retired after fifty years in the Hosiery Industry. She loved to cook and was known for her cooking. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.

She is survived by two daughters; Doris S. Mooney of Trinity and Dede S. Rice and husband Albert of High Point; one son James H. Smith Jr. and wife Barbara of Palm Desert CA.; 10 grand children; 13 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday June 8, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Service Archdale with the Reverend Kim Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hayworth Wesleyan Church Building Fund 1696 Westchester Dr. High Point, NC 27262.

Sechrest Funeral Service Archdale is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter White

HIGH POINT - Mr. Walter L. White, 71, of 909 Granby Ave., was a son of the late George White, Sr. and Rosa M. Curry White. His earthly life began in York, South Carolina on May 10, 1937. On June 3, 2008, Mr. White entered the realm of everlasting life.

Walter attended York public school and later moved to New York, where he was employed by Deluxe and Allied Moving Company. Following retirement, he relocated to High Point in 2004.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at Haizlip Funeral Home Chapel, 206 Fourth St., with Rev. Jermaine Tillman officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Family visitation will be at the chapel Monday, 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., and other times at the residence.

Ann Greene

SALISBURY - Mrs. Ann Means Hall Greene, 82, formerly of Forest Dr., Thomasville, died Wednesday evening, June 4, 2008, at the Genesis - Salisbury Center. She was born on April 16, 1926 in Banks County, Georgia to Hubert Means and Emma Caudell Means. She retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby Bradford Hall on August 14, 1956, and Robert W. Greene on July 20, 2003, sister, Reba Means McInerny, and a brother, Ralph Means.

Surviving are her sons, Daniel B. Hall and his wife Carol of Hickory, Richard J. Hall of Thomasville, and Michael A. Greene and wife Angie of Salisbury; daughters, Bonnie Hall Rowland and husband Julian of Lexington, and Jill Greene Hall and husband Jonathan of Cary; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Eric Disher officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Arthritis Foundation Carolinas Chapter, 4530 Park Rd., Suite 230, Charlotte, NC 28209.
