SEBASTIAN
NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mr. Samuel Elihue Sebastian Sr., 87, husband of Hettie Woodall Sebastian, of Little Mountain Church Road died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hays with the Rev. Julius Blevins and the Rev. Latt Beshears officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Sebastian was born in Wilkes County, Aug. 30, 1913, to Eli Lewis and Ellen Myers Sebastian. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Mr. Sebastian was a retired poultry producer. He was an avid genealogist and spent many hours researching family history. In addition to his wife, Mr. Sebastian is survived by two sons, Gary M. and wife Loretta Sebastian of Clemmons and Samuel E. Sebastian Jr. of North Wilkesboro; three sisters, Pearl Withers of Jarreau, La., Alta Jones of Wilkesboro and Arvona Cleary of Wilmington; and two grandchildren, Caroline and Benjamin Sebastian of Clemmons. The family will receive from 6:30 to 8:30 Tuesday night at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, P.O. SIDES
ADVANCE -- Mr. Harry Preston "Hab" Sides, 91, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. He was born Oct. 2, 1909, in Forsyth County to Augustus and Mary Bodenhamer Sides. He milked cows in Davie County for seven to eight years. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sides was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Sides. Surviving are his wife, Florence Walker Sides of the home, who he married Aug. 31, 1946; a son, David L. Sides of the home; a sister-in-law, Margaret Fishel; a niece, Dorothy Bennett and husband Harry; and a nephew, the Rev. Charles W. Fishel and wife Linda. Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Charles W. Fishel officiating. TILLEY
DOBSON -- Mr. Gurney Wilson Tilley Sr., 86, passed away Sunday morning after a short illness at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Tilley was born in Surry County to the late Charlie Rufus and Stacey Bell Johnson Tilley on Dec. 14, 1913. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Charles Alonza Tilley, Gurney Wilson Tilley Jr. and Hassell Lyle Tilley. He was retired from Tultex Co. and was a member of Dobson United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Juanita Wilson Watson Tilley of the home; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Hazel Tilley Groce of Yadkinville; and two sisters, Lena Morton and India Webb, both of Madison. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at the Davis & Son Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Dobson City cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

WELCH
MADISON -- Mrs. Annie Elizabeth East Welch, 73, of 3378 Highway 772 died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Bethesda United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Welch was born in Patrick County, Va. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Mayodan Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Welch; parents Henry and Elizabeth East; brother Akers East; and sisters Lucille Mitchell, Magdalene McAlexander and Ruth East. Survivors include sons Randy Welch of the home, Sam David and Timmy Welch of Madison, Johnny Welch of Lawsonville and Ricky Welch of Walnut Cove; daughter Hope Landreth of Madison; brothers William, Fred and Sam East of Stuart, Va., and Robert East of High Point; sisters Thelma Holt and Nancy Vipperman of Stuart and Evelyn Williams of Bristol; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 10 stepgreat-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Colonial Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

WILLIAMS
Mr. Buford Talmadge "B.T." Williams Sr., 83, formerly of Germanton Road in Rural Hall, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at "The Graybrier" in Trinity following a period of declining health. A native of Rockingham County, he was born Aug. 7, 1917, to the late Pleasant and Mary Jane Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Ruth Irwin Williams, in 1993; a son, Denny Williams, in 1985; six sisters; and three brothers. As a child, Mr. Williams attended Clemmons Elementary and Hanes Town Elementary schools. B.T. was one of the pioneers of automobile racing in the South. He was a crew member for the Holman-Moody Ford Racing Team (Charlotte, N.C.) in 1956 and 1957 and was a member of the Old Timers Dirt Racers Association. Mr. Williams was self-employed as an auto mechanic at the time of his retirement. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Ernest Bowles of Rural Hall; two sons and daughters-in-law, B.T. "Pete" and Wilma Williams Jr. of Archdale and Tony Lee and Robin Williams of Randleman; special son, James "Doby" Scott Jr. and wife Amy of Walnut Cove; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Sparta. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home. YOST
Mr. Howard Simpson Yost, 88, of Winston-Salem died Saturday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born Oct. 2, 1912, in West Hartford, Conn., to Albert Henry and Alma Jones Yost. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the trust department of Wachovia Bank in 1978. Mr. Yost was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a former member of the Old Town Club. Preceding him in death were his wife, Elizabeth McNeill Yost, in October 2000; his brother, Phillip Yost; and his sister, Charlotte Speer. Surviving are two sons, Howard McNeill Yost of High Point and Duncan McPherson Yost of Wake Forest; a granddaughter, Stephanie Yost Mann of Bozeman, Mont.; three nephews, George McNeill Dillehey, Howard Speer and Andrew Yost; and three nieces, Martha Newcomer, Lydia Yost and Melinda Miller. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. John Shields. Inurnment will be in the church's memory garden. The family will receive friends following the service in the Emma Gribbon room of the church. BLAKE
Mrs. Marie Wampler Blake, 73, of Warren Ave. passed away Dec. 11, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Wise County, Va., on Dec. 4, 1927, to Cossie and Grace Huff Wampler. Mrs. Blake was a nurse, having retired after working for 20 years at Forsyth Medical Center. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Glenn D. Blake; two sons, Ron Blake of Lincolnton and Darrell Blake of Lewisville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Doris Hall of Rutledge, Tenn. and Jane Phillips-Modler of Dayton, Ohio; and a brother, Basil Wampler of Dry Ridge, Ky. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Revs. Floyd Blake and Floyd Blake Jr. of Kentucky officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

BOWMAN
MOUNT AIRY -- On the morning of Dec. 12, 2000, Lettie Frances Mathis Culler Bowman, 85, of 177 Quaker Road, the widow of Murry Greene Bowman, a loving mother, wife, grandmother and friend, gave up her long battle with cancer at her home and went to join loved ones waiting to welcome her home. She never complained through her years of sickness, always cheering those who came to cheer her up. Mrs. Bowman was born in Surry County on May 6, 1915, the daughter of the late Will Mathis and Dell Jones Mathis. She was retired from Lynn Hosiery Mills and was a member of the Slate Mountain Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Dink Faw and Christine and Reid Vernon of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Diane Culler of Mount Airy and Donovan and Maxine Culler of Kernersville; a stepdaughter and husband Pat and Johnny Hensley of Mount Airy; a stepson, Wayne Bowman of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Frankie Vernon, Cindy Vernon Jones, Denny Faw, Benji Faw, David Culler, Casey Culler and Brandy Dickerson; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; two sisters, Fannie Padgett and Lillie Chandler of Mount Airy; and special friends, Maggie and Kitty Goad of Mount Airy and Thelma Hughes of Hickory. Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her first husband, James Woodrow Culler. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Moody Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Lola Mae Brewer Call, 70, of Eli Brewer Road, widow of Eugene Call, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Davis Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Rachel Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Carson, the Rev. Terry Call and the Rev. Marvin Blackburn officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Call was born Sept. 29, 1930, in Wilkes County to Eli and Mary Bell Brewer. She was a member of Rachel Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Call Bare of Crumpler and Debra Call Patterson of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Faye Brewer Tate of Charlotte; a brother, James M. Brewer of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Jerry E. Bare, Nicole P. Bare, Melissa P. Hutchins and Derek S. Patterson; and two great-grandchildren, Brittany N. Scroggs and Brandon Hutchins. CONCORD -- Mr. William Kurfees "Bill" Click, 68, of 938 Pineridge St. S.E. died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000. A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Friday at All Saints Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Bill Todd and the Rev. Roger Butler officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church parish hall. Mr. Click was born May 25, 1932, to the late Rowan Fletcher and Mae Kurfees Click. He graduated from Mocksville High School and Catawba College, and was a retired supply officer with the N.C. National Guard after 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mari Angela Click. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Marinelle Owens Click; a son, Marcus William Click and wife Gena Johnston Click of Davidson; a sister, A. Jane Click of Winston-Salem; and a granddaughter, Jennifer L. BELEWS CREEK -- Mrs. Betty Lou Sutphin Cummings, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Forsyth County to Harvey and Rena Flippin Sutphin. Mrs. Cummings was retired from the Forsyth County Garage after 18 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edward Cummings. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Cummings Brace and husband Kimball of Fairfax Station, Va.; two brothers, Donald Sutphin and wife Jane of Kernersville and Ronald Sutphin and wife Judy of Winston-Salem; two nieces, Barbara Brandt and husband John of Belews Creek and Peggy Thomas of Walkertown; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. Chuck Towery officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. EAST
Mr. Harvey Harold East Sr., 90, formerly of Pleasant View Drive died Monday evening, Dec. 11, 2000, at Silas Creek Manor. He was born in Forsyth County on July 4, 1910, to Burley Samuel East and Sarah VanHoy East. Mr. East was retired from Farmers Dairy. For many years he was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church. Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth Lancaster East on Dec. 10, 1990. Surviving are his daughter, Monteze E. Lentz and husband Allen; two sons, Harvey H. "Bunky" East Jr. and John W. East and his wife Gay all of Winston-Salem; a grandson, David W. East and his wife Cindy of Pfafftown; a great-grandson, Joseph W. East of Pfafftown; and a sister, Grace Parks of Boca Raton, Fla. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Forsyth Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Joe Long. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. GARRISON
Mrs. Nonnie Cox Garrison, 96, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at Willowbrook Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 24, 1904, in Prosperity, W.Va., to the late Albert S. and Ava Bryant Wright. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Cox, a World War I veteran and the father of her children. She was also preceded in death by her only son, Norman Cox, a World War II veteran, and by her second husband, John Garrison. She was a licensed practical nurse. She donated funds to build a chapel in Canar, Equador, as a memorial to her son Norman. She enjoyed writing and has Silver Post Awards and Golden Post Awards. Some of her poems are published in Winston- Salem Poets books, and her book of poems, "Joy Along Life's Way." She participated in many volunteer programs: Retired Seniors, Salvation Army League of Mercy, Golden Age Groups and Northwest Child Development Council. James B. Hunt, N.C. governor, presented her with a certificate of appreciation for exemplary volunteer service to community and the state of North Carolina. She served as chaplain for several senior groups. She was a member of Ardmore Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. Surviving are four daughters, Hazel Stelter and Betty Mabe of Winston-Salem, Stella Holt of Wilmington and Dorothy McHenry and husband Norman of Mobile, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Esta Harmon of Pittsboro. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Gerry Befus officiating. Burial will follow in God's Acre, the Moravian Graveyard, Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and requests memorials be made to Ardmore Moravian Church Mission Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.

HARRIS
ELKIN -- Mrs. Leanna Naomi Stanley Harris, 75, of 2645 Twin Oaks Road, wife of Samuel Harris passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Springwood Care Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Harris was born in Surry County Dec. 25, 1924, daughter of the late Roscoe and Sabrilla Phillips Stanley. She was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. and a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Samuel Harris of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leavie and Rick Freeman of Lewisville and Regina and Trent Seiber of Elkin; and three grandchildren, Ricky Freeman of Burlington and Angie Seiber and Nathan Seiber of Elkin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by a grandson, Jarrett Freeman; three sisters, Lula Dobbins, Lena Johnson and Lala Slade; and two brothers, Foley Stanley and Floyd Stanley. The funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Mount Hermon Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Larry Stone, the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and the Rev. Don Ball. Burial will be in the Union Cross Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home in Dobson, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the funeral service.

HEIN
BEL AIR, Md. -- Grace Phillips Hein died Dec. 11, 2000, at Brightview Assisted Living in Bel Air. She was born in Clemmons, the daughter of the late William Leonard and Lula Bertha Warner Phillips and the wife of the late Edward Leroy Hein. Mrs. Hein is survived by a son, Ronald F. Hein of Seaford, Del.; a daughter, Pamela Hein Gardner of Southlake, Texas; two brothers, John B. Phillips of Wallburg and Harley C. Phillips of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Margie A. Hagstrom of Denver, N.C., Emma L. Davis of East Bend and Mattie E. Walker of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Bel Air United Methodist Church, Bel Air, Md. Interment will be in Bel Air Memorial Gardens, Bel Air. Friends may call at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday. HORTON
Mrs. Alice Mariah Bell Horton, 72, known to family and friends as "Candy," of 2437 Marble St. passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at her residence following a period of illness. She was born March 14, 1928, in Forsyth County, the daughter of the late Lum Weathers Bell and Alice Reeder Bell. She was of the Baptist faith, was a graduate of Howard University and a retired employee of Kate B. Reynolds Memorial Hospital. She is survived by two sons, William "Bill" Carpenter and Wayne Carpenter (Sarah); two daughters, Beverly Beal and Wilma C. Howard (Arthur); 11 grandchildren, one devoted, Hope Beal; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Beatrice Blackwell; a devoted caregiver, Mary Wilkins; a dear family friend, Francine Ruth; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joseph R. Samuels officiating. Interment will be in the family plot of the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from noon until 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. (RUSSELL)

MUNDAY
MOCKSVILLE -- Mr. Robert Howard Munday, 71, of Gladstone Road passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Munday was born Sept. 15, 1929, in Davie County to the late William S. and Beulah Messick Munday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sanford Munday, Henry Munday and James Munday, and a sister, Kathleen M. Bunch. He retired in 1987 from Crown Wood Products after 13 years of service. Mr. Munday was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. He also sang with Cooleemee Community Chorus and Mocksville Senior Chorus. He served our country with the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lois Spry Munday; a son, John D. Munday and wife Julie of Salisbury; two daughters, Bobbie M. Tutterow and husband Robert of Mocksville and Donna M. Hoots and husband Richard of Lewisville; six grandchildren, Angela M. Hoots, Derrick Tutterow, Misty Hoots, Kelly Munday, Brad Tutterow and Kyle Munday; two great-grandchildren, Haley Hoots and Blaine Tutterow; two sisters, Nellie Bailey of Woodleaf and Carol Wagoner of Advance; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Liberty United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Phillip W. Park and the Rev. Mark S. Denton officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. NEAL
DENTON -- Mrs. Joyce Smith Neal, 85, of Mountain Vista Health Park, formerly of Tyvola Road, Charlotte, died Tuesday, Dec. 12 at Mountain Vista Health Park. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mike Hammond. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. Mrs. Neal was born April 30, 1915, to Ellis Eugene Smith and Atha Lois Stegall Smith. She was retired as a dietitian after 23 years at Pinewood Elementary School in Charlotte. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her husband, Beckham U. Neal, and stepmother Sarah Baker Smith. Surviving are a son, Gerald "Jerry" Neal of Winston-Salem; daughters Gloria Rollings of Mooresville and Bonney Buie of Denton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Emmit Smith of Southport; and two sisters, Hallie Hammond of Heath Springs, S.C., and Lois Curlee of Surf City. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the home of Bonney Buie on Lake Ridge Trail in Denton. OGBURN
CLEMMONS -- Mr. James "Jim" Sprinkle Ogburn, 73, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Aug. 18, 1927, in Forsyth County to Henley Moir and Fannie Sprinkle Ogburn. Mr. Ogburn retired from AT&T and was an avid golfer and hunter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henley Moir Ogburn Jr. Surviving are his wife, Frances Ronk Ogburn of the home; a son, James Robert "Bobby" Ogburn of Clemmons; a nephew, Robert Ogburn and wife Martha of Lincolnton; and a host of very special cousins. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel with the Rev. Roy Hoover officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Elms Allen, Dr. Eugene Paschold and nurses Sandy, Paula and Cynthia. PINNIX
KANNAPOLIS -- Mrs. Mary Hamby Pinnix, 85, of 109 Landmark Drive died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Brian Center in Concord. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Parker officiating. Entombment will be at Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. She was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Wilkes County to the late Henry Martin Hamby and Rebecca Spears Hamby. Mrs. Pinnix was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and a member of Grace Baptist Temple in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Archie Ray Hamby, Cameron Hamby, Elmer Hamby, Henry Hamby and Edsel Hamby. Surviving are two brothers, Calvin Hamby of Orlando, Fla., and M.B. Hamby of Kannapolis and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ellie Hamby Gregory of Kannapolis with whom she made her home. Memorials may be donated to Central Baptist Church, 1810 Moose Road, Kannapolis, NC 28083 in memory of Mrs. Pinnix.
