Mrs. Josephine Crosby, 67, of 1832 Kentucky Ave., passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at her residence after a period of illness. She was born on July 22, 1933, in Winston-Salem to Mattie Evans Charles and the late Herman Charles. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Crosby; her father, Herman Dairon Charles; and a brother, Marion R. Charlee. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church for many years before moving her membership to Union Chapel Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the class of 1951 from Atkins High School and was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system with more than 20 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory four loving daughters, Terrie Charles, Crystal Watts (Richard), Gaynelle Crosby, and Marion Crosby, and a son, Thomas Crosby, all of Winston-Salem; her dear mother, Mattie Charles; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Deloise McMiller, Eleanor Hood, Linda Charles, Brenda Charles, and Edith Mitchell, all of Winston-Salem, Martha Charles of Ocala, Fla., and Shirley Charles of East Orange, N.J.; a brother, Thomas Charles (Patricia) of Bellevue, Neb.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Union Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Konnie G. Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. CUMMINGS

Mr. Ricky Wilson Cummings, 44, of Winston-Salem passed away Monday May 21, 2001, at N.C. Baptist Hospital. Mr Cummings was born Oct. 5, 1956, in Forsyth County to Mr. Raymond Cummings and the late Mrs. Mozell Ruth Cummings. He is survived by a son, Ricky Jr.; a sister, Frances Cockerham; three brothers, Billy Cummings and wife Mary Cummings, Bobby Cummings and Johnny Cummings; and a very special friend, Keith Nelson. The body will be cremated May 24, 2001. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. May 25, 2001, at Shattalon Church of Christ, 5490 Shattalon Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mr. and Mrs. Billy Cummings, 3269 Grubbs Road, Walkertown, NC 27051.

HAM

RONDA - Mr. Edgar Augusta Ham, 90, of Macedonia Church Road, Ronda, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Ham was born February 3, 1911, in Wilkes County to John S. and Mollie Howell Ham. Mr. Ham was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jettie S. Ham. He is survived by a son, Kenneth Ham of Ronda; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bill Calloway of Ronda; a grandson, Ronny Calloway of Ronda; two great-grandsons, Keith Calloway of Jonesville and Kevin Calloway of Elkin; and one great-great-grandson, Ben Calloway of Elkin. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Maple Springs United Methodist Church with the Revs. Olin Barker and John Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Ham will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family requests no flowers or food. JOYCE

SANDY RIDGE - Mrs. Lillie Watkins Joyce, 81, of 3367 Amostown Road, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Morehead Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Amos cemetery. Mrs. Joyce was born in Rockingham County, was a member of Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church, and was retired from Pannel Knitting Co. Inc. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezra Paul Joyce; her parents, Suttle and Rena Hensley Watkins; four brothers, Melvin, Ray, Russell, and Connie Watkins; and a sister, Lola Graham. Mrs. Joyce is survived by three sons, Paul Ray Joyce and Bernard "Buster" Joyce (Juanita), both of Sandy Ridge, and Melvin Luther "Luke" Joyce of Chatham, Va.; a daughter, Margie Curry (Donald) of Madison; two brothers, James Watkins (Betty) of Ridgeway, Va., and Lindsey Watkins (Pam) of Madison; three sisters, Elma Hall and Annie Cassidy, both of Stoneville, and Aileen Nance of Sandy Ridge; four grand-children, James Windy Welch, Chad Joyce (Angie), Lisa Joyce, and Gail Riggs (Dean); and one great-grandchild, Natalie Riggs. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 25, at Colonial Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence, 3367 Amostown Road, Sandy Ridge. LINEBERRY

Mrs. Maxine Cox Lineberry of Meadowbrook Terrace, Wins-ton-Salem, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, in Forest Lawn cemetery, with the Rev. Ralph Webb officiating. Mrs. Lineberry was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lineberry. She is survived by her sisters, Nina Crabtree of Alexandria, Va., Eve Franz of Bellair, Fla., and Willma Pruitt of McLeansville; caretaker Marj-orie Cashion of East Bend; a special niece, Carolyn Williams of Colfax; a nephew, Jake Alspaugh of Pfafftown; and other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

MCALISTER

Mrs. Virginia Young McAlister, 93, passed away at The Oaks at Forsyth on May 23, 2001. Mrs. McAlister was born Sept. 25, 1907, in Durham to W.R. Young and Ella Penny Young. She was a retired registered nurse. Mrs. McAlister was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Wilkerson McAlister, a longtime em-ployee of Duke Power Co., and was an avid golfer. Mrs. McAlister had three sisters, Margaret Partridge, Katherine Cornwright and Valeria Hardister. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 25, 2001, at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

MORRIS

KERNERSVILLE - Gabriel "Gabe" Andrew Morris, 21, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center. A memorial service to celebrate Gabe's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Victory Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 Freedon Drive, Charlotte. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, also at the church. Gabe was born Jan. 3, 1980, in Monticello, Ark. He was a 1998 graduate of West Charlotte High School, attended Florida State University and was presently enrolled at UNCC. He was employed by Hampton Inn-Speedway/Panos Corporation. His brother, Jimmy Norris, preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving parents, Charles "Chuck" and Linda Morris of Kernersville; a brother, Shawn Michael Morris of Charlotte; two sisters, Blair Norris of Kernersville and Lisa Morris of Norman, Okla.; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Voncile Morris of Britthaven Nursing Center in Kernersville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gabriel Morris Scholarship Fund, 1029 Foxfire Road, Kernersville, NC 27284. Arrangements by National Cremation Service, Charlotte.

NICHOLSON

KERNERSVILLE - Miss Victor Ree Nicholson, 83, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Feb. 19, 1918, in Wilkes County to P.C. and Nancy Byrd Nicholson. Miss Nicholson was retired from P.H. Hanes Co. with 40 years of service. She is survived by a son, Larry Elbert Nicholson of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Cleo Rossette of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

PHILIPP

Dr. Roy J. Philipp of Winston-Salem died May 23, 2001. He was a native of Syracuse, N.Y., but his educational and professional career took him to many other areas. Dr. Philipp earned bachelor of arts and medical doctor degrees from the University of Rochester. After fulfilling the residency require-ments for internal medicine, he was certified by the American Board in Internal Medicine. His career included service with the U.S. Air Force as a medical officer, as a private practitioner and as a physician with the Veterans Administration. The last eight years of his practice was as chairman of the Department of Internal Med-icine with Winston-Salem Health Care Plan Inc. Dr. Philipp was honored for his research papers and he was a fellow in the American College of Physicians and the Society for Advanced Medical Systems. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elsie Creamer Philipp, and a brother, Gerald Philipp. He is survived by his wife Janice Philipp; three children, Stuart E. Philipp of Renton, Va., Pamela Whelan (Phil) of Vienna, Va., and Marilyn John (Richard) of Montclair, NJ; three step-children, Tim Anderson (Debbie) of Pfafftown, Scott Anderson of Charlottesville, Va., and Jeffrey Anderson (Allison) of Lewisville; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Kevin, Elizabeth, Joseph and Kate Whelan, Katie and Christopher John, and Peyote Elizabeth Anderson; and two brothers, Douglas Philipp of Oldster, Fla., and Howard Phillip of Manilas, N.Y. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in the church memorial garden. The family will receive friends at the church after the service. PHILLIPS

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. James Masten Phillips, 86, died May 22, 2001, at his home. Mr. Phillips was born September 28, 1914, in Forsyth County, a son of Charley and Mollie Masten Phillips. He was a member of Union Cross Moravian Church and did volunteer mission work in Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Alaska and the Virgin Islands. He was retired from Hugh Pratt Construction Co. of Winston-Salem. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW of Kernersville. He was a troop committee member for Boy Scout Troop 729. He is survived by his wife, Lena Newsom Phillips of the home; two daughters, Delores Vogt and Janice Reich and her husband, Jack C. Reich, all of Winston-Salem; a son, James E. Phillips and wife Cynthia Warren Phillips of Round Rock, Texas; two sisters, Etta Mae Jones and Dorothy Hege, both of Winston-Salem; one brother, Henry Clay Phillips of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Union Cross Moravian Church with Dr. Jim Doss and Bishop Iobst officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 25, at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. SINCLAIR

Mrs. Carolyn Clowers Sinclair, 77, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Eden to Jim and Sue Murphy Clowers. Mrs. Sinclair was retired from AT&T. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Sinclair. She is survived by a son, John C. Young (Irene) of Huntersville; two daughters, Bunny Powell of Winston-Salem, and Sonja Osborne (Jeffrey) of Lewisville; a granddaughter, Kimberly Young of Clemmons; a great-grand-daughter, Kristina Hicks of Clemmons; a brother, Jack Clowers (Ann) of Winston-Salem; and two sisters, Kathlene Bullard and Smiles Phillips, both of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel, with Dr. Bobby Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

STAFFORD

Mr. William Bee Stafford, 76, of 4680 Miller Road passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Forsyth County and was a member of Bethania AME Zion Church. He leaves to cherish his memory a sister, Mattie Frances Stafford; two nieces, Mary Webster and Anne Marie Stafford, all of Winston-Salem; two nephews, Daniel Stafford and Walter Pollack; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001, at the Bethania AME Zion Church, with the Rev. Johnny Ruff officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. (Russell)

STRUZIK

CLEMMONS - Eileen R. Struzik, 57, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born in Baltimore, Md., to Mae and Pat Burns. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Wayne Struzik; a son, Christopher Struzik and wife Lisa of Pearl River, N.Y.; a daughter, Gwen Smith and husband Bob of Clemmons; five grand-children, Zach, Ashlyn, Lauren, Hannah and R.C.; a sister-in-law, Joan Cerny; and a brother-in-law, George "Tom" Kuhn both of Kingsville, Md. Mrs. Struzik, a graduate of Seton High School in Baltimore, Md., was very active in her community, her church and the church bazaar at Holy Family. A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Holy Family Catholic Church by Father Ricardo Sanchez and Father Frank O'Rourke. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the Mass and also after the Mass in the family center at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Eileen Struzik Memorial Fund, Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Road, Clemmons, NC 27012. Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel is serving the Struzik family.

TWITTY

GARNER - Ms. Joan Adele Twitty, 66, of 103 Burnham Court, Garner, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Monday, May 21, 2001, at the Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Joan was born in Summit, N.J., on Oct. 2, 1934, to Robert Lee and Ethel Jane Twitty. At an early age she moved to Winston-Salem, where she attended Woodland Avenue School, 14th Street Elementary School, and Atkins High School. She graduated from Winston-Salem State Teachers College in 1957. She taught school in Paterson, N.J., for 35 years, was a member of the Paterson Education Association and a member of the New Jersey Retirement Education Association. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in New Jersey, and upon returning to North Carolina, became a watch-care member of Providence Holy Church. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Carletta Twitty James of Raleigh and Miss Jennifer Toms of Paterson, N.J.; five grandchildren, Toreka, Bryan, Brittany and Tanyce James and Vajna Toms; a sister, Ms. Marlene Hawkins of Winston-Salem; three aunts and uncles; numerous cousins; and a host of devoted friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, May 26, at the Russell Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in the family plot at Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Russell Funeral Home. (Russell)

WATKINS

LEXINGTON - Mr. Harry Braxton Watkins, 59, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at his home. He was born Dec. 25, 1941, in Winston-Salem to the late Millard and Effie Yokley Watkins. Mr. Watkins was an active member of Enterprise Moravian Church, where he served as an elder. He graduated from Gray High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a member of the Arcadia Lions Club. He worked at R.J. Reynolds for 37 years and retired Feb. 28, 1999. He was preceded in death by a brother, O.B. Watkins; and three sisters, Eucebe Petree, Frances Willard and Lucy Holland. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Brenda McDaniel Watkins, and a daughter, Michelle Lynn Watkins, both of the home; a granddaughter, Megan Johnson of Clemmons; a brother, Joe Watkins of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Idema Johnson of Clemmons, Betty Thrift of Winston-Salem, and Mary Lou Lanningham of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and special nephews, Kim and Tim Johnson of Arcadia. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Enterprise Moravian Church, with the Revs. Arkon Stewart and Barry Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Enterprise Moravian Church Building Fund, C/O M.W. ADAMS

YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Martha Ann Hall Adams, 63, of Philmore Street passed away Monday, June 4, 2001, at the David's House Nursing Center in Dobson. She was born June 17, 1937, in Yadkin County to the late Clarence Eldridge and Lonnie Elra Wooten Hall. Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a member of Maranatha Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Adams; her stepmother, Laura Belle Hall; and a half sister, Nora Bowers. Surviving are her brother, Junior Hall of Yadkinville; half sister, Marie Hailey of Boonville; and a half brother, James Hall. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Maranatha Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Hubert Wishon. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville.

ANDERSON

Mr. William T. "W.T." or "Dub" Anderson was born in McCormick, S.C., to Annie and Shert Anderson on July 18, 1922. He attended the McCormick County Schools. Mr. Anderson moved to Winston-Salem as a young man and worked at R.J. Reynolds for 41 years before retiring in 1983. He was preceded in det ath by four brothers, Sherman T. Anderson, Freddie T. Anderson and Edward T. Anderson of Winston-Salem and Willie Mack Anderson of Detroit, Mich., and a sister, Annie Mae of Detroit. Mr. Anderson leaves to cherish fond memories a brother, David T. Anderson of the home; a devoted daughter, Kathyanne Randolph; a devoted granddaughter, Ruth O. Jones II; and a great-grandson, Dion Jones, all of the home. He remained friends with his daughter's mother, Ruth O. Jones, who lives in Pittsburgh, Pa. He leaves here a devoted friend of 161/2 years, Minnie Wooten of Winston-Salem, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins of Winston-Salem, Detroit and Bethesda, Md. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, at the Frances S. & Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lewis Devlin officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the chapel. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from 1849 Kentucky Ave. Arrangements entrusted to Gilmore Funeral Home. (Gilmore)
