William N. Ingham

WILLIAM NEITHERCUT INGHAM, 67, of Duck, NC died Monday, June 30, 2003 at his residence. Mr. Ingham, born in Newton, Massachusettes, was a retired stock broker and a Catholic. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was the son of the late William and Queenie Oakley Ingham.

Mr. Ingham is survived by his wife, Catherine Geisler Ingham of the residence; a daughter, Tracie Kotch of Southern Shores, NC; a son, Scott Ingham of Duck, NC; a sister, Janet Loos of Smith Mountain Lake, VA; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Duck United Methodist Church on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 11:00 am with Rev. David Clift officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Duck Rescue Squad.

Florence Hooper

SALVO, NC - FLORENCE BURRUS BARNETT HOOPER, 89, of Salvo, died, Sunday, September 19, 2004 in Elizabeth City, N.C. Mrs. Hooper was born in Frisco and was retired from the Hatteras Island Hotel where she worked in house keeping for over 30 years.

She was the daughter of the late Gertrude and Courtney Whedbee Barnett and the wife of the late Jimmie Hooper.

Surviving are one daughter, Elsie H. Hooper of Salvo and one son, William Wellington Hooper of Gwynn Island, Va, one sister, Janie Hooper of Salvo, two brothers, Jackie Barnett and George Barnett both of Frisco, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hooper was pre-deceased by her daughter, Kay Hooper, her sister, Christine Williams and three brothers, Bertie Barnett, Sherman Barnett and Bennie Barnett.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Salvo Assembly of God by the Rev. Neel Keller and Suzie Fitch-Slater. Burial will be in the Hooper Family Cemetery in Salvo. Friends may join the family at the Salvo Assembly of God Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Hooper family.

MaryJo Jones Hoover
Native of Mobile, AL

Mrs. MaryJo Jones Hoover, age 60, of 181 Wickham Road, Shiloh, NC, died Sunday, February 8, 2004, at her residence. A resident of Mobile, AL, she was the wife of Warren Demas Hoover of the residence and the daughter of Horace Butler Jones of Shiloh, NC, and the late Gladys Corrine Wright Jones. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Original Free Will Baptist Church.

Besides her husband and father she is survived by five daughters, Susan Marie Caprini of San Diego, CA, Cheryl Lynn Acord of Jacksonville, FL, Julya Chrystyna Rebstock of Houston, TX, Angela Michelle Gregory of Elizabeth City, NC, and Stephanie Jean Wallace of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister Myrtis Thompson of Brewton, AL, a brother Woodrow Oliver of Orlando, FL, and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Ann Hanlon and a brother, James Arthur Jones.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, with the Rev. Harry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home and later from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Marlin and Carrie Deason, 1128 South Highway 343, Shiloh, NC. Vera Mae High

Chesapeake – Vera Mae High, 62, died April 16, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. High was born in Winston Salem, NC to the late Walter and Daisy Gambel Burchette. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church in South Norfolk for over 30 years.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, James High; one daughter, Patricia Ann Sanford of Chesapeake; one son, Richard S. High of Chesapeake; two sisters, Gail B. Pittman and Dorothy Elliott both of Norfolk; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Monday at 2:00pm at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens with Rev. Greg Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends at South Side Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:00. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the South Side Baptist Church Building Fund. Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake is in charge of these arrangements.

Joanne Herman Hill

Grandy, NC - Joanne “Jody” Herman Hill, age 64, of 101 Basehit Road, Grandy, NC, died at her residence Monday, March 17, 2003. She was born in Plainfield, N.J. the daughter Olive Pearl Herman Tomasko, and was the wife of the late William Bill Hill. Mrs. Hill worked as a Pastry Chef with the Sanderlin Inn. She was a member of Jarvisburg Church of Christ, and a member of Powell’s Point Senior Citizens Club, she also worked at the Dairy Queen at Grandy, NC.

Mrs. Hill is survived by two daughters, Christine Licoma of Long Island, NY, and Regina Carol Ferrell of Tampa, FL; two sons, Theadore Herman Hooban Sohn, Jr. of Clayton, NC, and Raymond Kenneth Sohn of South Mills, NC; seven sisters, Alicia Eshleman of FL, Shirley Brogdan of TX, Olive Morgan of OK, Ruth Rowland of TX, Elizabeth Bennett of NJ, Deborah Darmstadt of TX, and Patricia Skinner of DE; seven brothers, William Tomasko of NJ, Joseph Tomasko of TX, Dennis Tomasko of NJ, Andrew Tomasko of NJ, Norman Tomasko of DE, Ronald Tomasko of TX, and Richard Tomasko of OH; and six grandchildren, Vickie, John, Sicely, Joshua, Joseph, and Mitchell.

Memorial service will be Thursday, March 20, 2003 at 4:00 pm in Jarvisburg Church of Christ with Minister Dennis Crehan officiating. The family request memorial donations to Albemarle Hospice, PO Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27907-0189

Ernest R. Hines

CHESAPEAKE - ERNEST RAY HINES, 64, died Tuesday August 12, 2003 in a Chesapeake hospital. Mr. Hines was born in Norfolk to Pearl Perry Hines of Chesapeake and the late Ernest Elmer Hines. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Norfolk.

Mr. Hines is survived by his mother, Pearl Perry Hines; one sister Bernice H. Hyatt of Norfolk; two brothers, Lonnie Elmer Hines and his wife Jean of Wirtz, VA and Wilber Lee Hines and his wife Paula of Kitty Hawk, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake with Rev. Johnny McDonald officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following services. Interment will take place in the Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk, NC.

Catherine Hiney

Maple, NC - Catherine Rita Sessler Hiney, age 81 of 113 Hasty’s Point Lane, Maple, NC 27956 died Saturday, July 12, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Onodaga County, NY; daughter of the late Luke and Nellie Furlong Sessler and was the widow of Tod Hiney. She was a registered nurse, a member of St. Katherine’s of Drexel in Maple, NC, a graduate of St. Joseph’s Hospital Nursing School, and was 2nd LT in the U. S. Army during World War II.

Mrs. Hiney is survived by three daughters, Mary Linda Sherrill of North Glen, CO, Helen Marie Sasser of Portsmouth, VA and Catherine Hiney of Manns Harbor, NC; three sons, Tod Kenneth Hiney of Virginia, Timothy Luke Hiney of Maple, NC and Richard Paul Hiney of Prarieville, LA; a brother, Donald Sessler of New York, NC; twenty two grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by two sons, Daniel and David Hiney.

A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 10:00 AM at St. Katherine’s of Drexel with Father Jim Buchholz officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorial donations may be made to St. Katherine’s of Drexel, % Holy Family Catholic Church, 1453 N. Beulah Hobbs

Beulah Nash Hobbs, 85 of Elizabeth City, NC and formerly of 794 Highway #158, Elizabeth City died Wednesday morning in the Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Camden County to the late Sam and Lula Russell Nash and was the wife of Elliott Hobbs. Mrs. Hobbs was a member of the Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church and was a retired employee for W.T. Grant Company.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Hobbs is survived by a daughter, Adelle Boothe of Rocky Mount, NC, a sister, Bessie Hammer of Oregon, three grandchildren, Valerie Boothe of Rocky Mt., NC, Gail Rogers of Asheboro, NC and Van Boothe of Smithfield, NC; one great grandchild, Rebekah Rogers of Asheboro, NC.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 27, 2003 at 1:00pm in Twiford Memorial Chapel by Rev. Glen Greenway. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the chapel service. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to the Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church, 1308 School House Rd., Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Elizabeth Brantley Hobbs
Native of Suffolk, VA

Mrs. Elizabeth Brantley Hobbs, age 82, of 901 Halstead Boulevard, Elizabeth City, NC, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Guardian Care Nursing Home. Mrs. Hobbs, a native of Suffolk, VA, was the widow of Ephraim J. Hobbs, Jr., and the daughter of the late Joseph F. Brantley and Ida Jones Brantley. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and was a past president of the American Legion Auxillary.

She is survived by four sons, John C. Hobbs of Virginia Beach, VA, Ephraim J. Hobbs, III and wife Dianne, of Asheville, NC, Stephen B. Hobbs and wife Julie of Laurens, SC, and Joseph F. Hobbs and wife Cynthia of Moyock, NC; and five grandchildren, Adam Hobbs, Claire Hobbs, Josh Black, Kimberly Hobbs, and Lora Hobbs.

Funeral services will be Sunday, February 1, 2004 at 2:00 pm in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Revs. John H. Dutton, Jr. and M.R. White. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 7:00 until 8:30. Memorial donations may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, P.O. Sadie A. Hobbs

Sarah C. “Sadie” Armstrong Hobbs, 89, died on April 2, 2004, at her home after a brief illness with cancer. She was born in Gum Neck, NC, to the late R. Roland Armstrong and Bettress A. Armstrong. She was preceded by her loving and devoted husband Oscar Vernon Hobbs.

Mrs. Hobbs is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Louise H. and Carlton L. Berry of Chesapeake, VA, and Ruth H. “Sweetie” and Thomas L. Hobbs of Elizabeth City, NC; four grandchildren Rhonda B. Kaden and husband Glenn L. Kaden of Chesapeake, VA, Sarah E. Blanchard and fiancée Terry S. Gurganus of Elizabeth City, NC, Sonya B. Longest, M.D. and husband Tim W. Longest of Greenville, NC, and C. Randal Berry of Chesapeake, VA; three great grandchildren Timothy W. and Celeste S. Longest both of Greenville, NC, and Kelsey P. Kaden of Chesapeake, VA. Other survivors include a sister, Elma Onley, and a brother, Robert R. Armstrong, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, Carlos M., A. Jackson, and L. Clayton Armstrong and one sister Pearl Ivedeen Armstrong.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. Always known as a hard worker, she worked for more than twenty years at the Elizabeth City Hosiery Mill. Her employment outside the home abruptly ended, however, the day in April, 1962, when her first two grandchildren arrived home from the hospital, and she became a full-time homemaker and doting grandmother. She dearly enjoyed sewing, cooking, and working in the yard. She continued most of these activities until shortly before her death.

She served God through her work at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she was a member of the Fred White Sunday School Class. She served on various committees along with leading the Christian Youth Fellowship with her husband Oscar. She taught the six year old Sunday School Class for over 30 years. She attended Sunday School and Church regularly and had many years of perfect attendance.

A funeral service will be held, Monday, April 5, 2004 at 2:00 pm in First Christian Church with the Rev. Bobby C. Armstrong and Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of the deceased.

Mrs. Hobbs will be truly missed by many. Her kind and loving spirit will live forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

Elliott Hobbs

Elliott Wayland Hobbs, age 87, of 3907 Caratoke Highway, Barco, NC, died Wednesday, September 1, 2004, at Sentara Barco Nursing Home. Mr. Hobbs was a native of Gates County, NC. He was the widower of Beulah Nash Hobbs and the son of the late Dozier Lathan Hobbs and Annie Beulah Hollowell Hobbs. He was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church and the Newland-Providence Ruritan Club and was a retired TV/Radio Repair- man.

Survivors include a step daughter, Adelle Hobbs Boothe of Rocky Mount, NC; a sister, Maybelle Chappell of Winfall, NC; a brother, Paige Hobbs of Hertford, NC; three grandchildren, Valerie Boothe, Van Boothe, and Gail Rogers.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 4, 2004, at 1:00 PM at Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Greenway officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately after the funeral. Burial will be in Hobbsville Baptist Church Cemetery at 3:00 PM. Rufus R. Abeyounis

Rufus Raymond Abeyounis, 75, of 112 Rosewood Ave., Elizabeth City, NC died at his residence Monday, August 25, 2003. He was born in Washington, NC to the late Raymond and Eugenie Daou Abeyounis. He graduated from Washington High School in 1945 and attended the Citadel in Charleston, SC. After his freshman year at the Citadel, Mr. Abeyounis joined the US Navy serving in World War II. He was stationed in Long Beach Naval Hospital, San Diego, California as an x-ray technician. After serving in the Navy from 1946 –1948, he returned to the Citadel and graduated in 1952. Following college, he worked as a sales representative for Sinclair Oil Company, moving to Elizabeth City to become part owner of Crystal Ice & Coal Co. (currently Crystal Enterprises Inc., a BP Oil Distributor). In 1972, Mr. Abeyounis became sole owner of Crystal Enterprises, Inc. Mr. Abeyounis served on countless community boards. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, member and past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus, a member and past president of Elizabeth City Morning Rotary Club where a scholarship has been named in his honor. He was a former assistant to the Governor of Rotary International and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. Abeyounis was a member of the NC Petroleum Marketers Association where he served on its Board of Directors. He was the 1985 co-chairman for River Spree and a charter member of its Board of Directors and served on its board for 10 years. He was an avid supporter of the youth and through his work and contribution to the local 4-H Club, he received the Roy W. Evans Memorial Award. He received the Executive Award from the Elizabeth City Boys and Girls Club for his many years of support and service. He also served on the Pasquotank County Agri-Business Council for many years. He was a former member of the Board of Directors for the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce and a former board member of Skills Incorporated. Mr. Abeyounis was a true humanitarian and a friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Swain Abeyounis of the home, two sons, Anthony Rufus Abeyounis and wife, Joyce, of Elizabeth City, NC and Gregory Lee Abeyounis and wife, Julie, of Wilson, NC; a sister, Eva A. Stuckey of Greenville, NC and numerous other family members and friends.. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Raymond Abeyounis and Anthony Raymond Abeyounis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Friday morning, August 29, 2003, at 10:00am in the Holy Family Catholic Church by Father Jim Buchholz. Entombment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends and relatives at Holy Family Catholic Church Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:30pm. Flowers are appreciated and accepted, however, anyone wishing may send memorial gifts to Holy Family Catholic Church, 1453 N. Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to the Rufus R. Charles Hodges

Camden, NC - Charles Hodges, 71, of 118 US 158 West, Camden, NC died Wednesday, November 6, 2002. He was born in Camden; son of the late Harry and Laura Lamb Hodges and was the husband of Jean Lamb Hodges. He retired as an engineer from Norfolk and Southern Railroad and was owner and operator of Charlie’s Country Store in Camden. Mr. Hodges was a member of Sawyer’s Creek Baptist Church and the Widow’s Son Masonic Lodge # 75 AF & AM.

Besides his wife, Mr. Hodges is survived by a daughter, Charlene H. Loope and her husband, David, of Columbia, SC; a son, Chuck Hodges and his wife, Lynn, of Camden, NC; a sister, Faye Webb of Camden, NC and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia H. Bray.

A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 am in New Hollywood Cemetery with Rev. Tom LeGrand officiating. The family will be at the residence and asks that memorial donations be made to Sawyer’s Creek Baptist Church.

Arany Hodges

Elizabeth City, NC - Arany Everton Hodges, age 88, of Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003 in the Albemarle Hospital. She was a born in Dare County, NC, daughter of the late Earl Everton and Lennie Payne Everton, and with the wife of the late John Hodges. Mr. Hodges was a Pentecostal.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Allen and her husband, Johnnie Ray of Elizabeth City, NC, and Diane Holt and her husband Fuzzy Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Mrs. Hodges is predeceased by one son, Marvin Ray Hodges.

A graveside service will be Thursday, December 11, 2003, at 11:00 AM in New Hollywood Cemetery. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. The family will be at the home of Betty and Johnnie Allen, 103 Jane Lane, Elizabeth City, NC.

Wink Hoffman

Winfred O. “Wink” Hoffman, 72, of 615 Pitts Chapel Road, Elizabeth City died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC to the late Fred Erwin and Glennie Lewis Hoffman and was the husband of Frances Gray Hoffman. He was a retired police officer with the City of Elizabeth City having served the city for 25 year and also was a former employee of Ambrose Furniture Company.

Besides his wife, Mr. Hoffman is survived by two sons, Steve Erwin Hoffman and wife, Yvonne, of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Paul Glenn Hoffman and wife, Tammy, of Elizabeth City, NC, one sister, Ella H. Cosgrove of Elizabeth City, one brother, Karl Lee Hoffman of Glen Burnie, MD; three grandchildren, Lindsay Erin Hoffman, Caitlin Hoffman, and Hanna Alice Hoffman. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Erwin Hoffman, Jr. and Rudolph H. “Rudy” Hoffman.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at 11:00am in the Twiford’s Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Verlon Lloyd Holden

Verlon Lloyd Holden, 62, of 171 Alan Sawyer Road, Shawboro, NC went to be with the Lord Saturday morning June 7, 2003 in Fayetteville, NC. He was born in Jackson County, NC. Mr. Holden was the son of Gertrude Coggins Russell of Barco, NC and the late Glen Eugene Holden and was the husband of Alean Sawyer Holden. He was employed with the Norfolk Naval Ship Yard as a sheet metal mechanic, a member of the Providence Baptist Church and attended the New Community Church.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Monica Maynard of Coinjock, NC and Melanie Smith of Frostproof, FL; one son, Jaymes Holden of Aydlett, NC; three brothers, Edwin Holden of Barco, NC, Charles Holden of Greenville, SC and Gene Holden of Brevard, NC; three grandchildren, Joshua Holden, Kelsie Holden both of Aydlett, NC and Allen Michael Lilly of FL. Also, Mr. Holden is survived by two nephews, James Wesley Holden and David Holden both of Greenville, SC and numerous aunts, uncles and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, James Russell.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at 11:00am in the Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC by Revs. Charles H. Wellons and Michael Gothard. Burial will be in the Holden Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives in the lobby of the funeral home immediately following the service and at other times at their residence. Luther Douglas Holmes

L. Douglas Holmes, 76, of 104 Scotland Drive, Elizabeth City died Wednesday night, December 11, 2002, in the Winslow Memorial Home. He was born in Pasquotank County to the late Edward Wallace and Beuna Vista Brinson Holmes. He was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, a member of the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church and served in World War II with the merchant marines.

He is survived by his wife, Lora Fay Norfleet Holmes of the home, two daughters, Ellen Holmes Russell of Elizabeth City, NC and Teresa Holmes Richardson of Simpsonville, NC; three sons, Terry Douglas Holmes of Shreveport, LA, Mark Alan Holmes of Elizabeth City and Kevin Paul Holmes of Raleigh, NC; and nine grandchildren.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday evening, December 14, 2002, from 7:00 until 8:30pm at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC. There will be a private memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church, 700 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to The Salvation Army, P. O. Box 1967, Elizabeth City, NC 27906-1967.

Elisha Ballance

OCRACOKE, NC - ELISHA EVERETT BALLANCE, 86, of Ocracoke, NC died Monday, June 7, 2004 at the Outer Banks Hospital, Nags Head, NC. Mr. Ballance, born in Ocracoke, served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1937 to 1957, traveling in the South Pacific, the North Atlantic, Australia and Cuba, and serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He worked with the National Park Service from 1960 to 1976 and was also a fisherman. Mr. Ballance was a member of the Ocracoke United Methodist Church, serving several years as Sunday School Superintendent, and was past Master of the Ocracoke Masonic Lodge #747. He organized the first Fire Training Class for the Ocracoke Fire Dept. in 1966 and was an active member of the Ocracoke Civic Club. Mr. Ballance loved anything to do with being on the water, and prided himself in being completely independent of all electronic devices, including a hearing aide.

Mr. Ballance was the son of the late Elisha and Emma Gaskins Ballance and was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Amber Hardison Ballance. He was also preceded in death by a son, David Ballance, a sister, Elsie Garrish, two brothers, Henry Ballance and Lawrence Ballance.

Mr. Ballance is survived by daughter, Lynette Waller and husband, Ray of Ocracoke; two sons, Reggie Ballance, Gene Ballance and wife, Cheryl, and a daughter-in-law, Sharon Hutcherson Ballance, all of Ocracoke; a sister, Lorena O’Neal and husband, Charlie of Ocracoke; two brothers, William Ballance of Nederland, TX and Maurice Ballance and wife, Maude Ellen of Ocracoke.

Funeral services will be held at the Ocracoke United Methodist Church on Thursday, June10, 2004 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Charles Etheridge officiating. Burial will follow in the Ballance Family Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church on Wednesday afternoon. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30pm.

Twiford’s Island Chapel, Hatteras is assisting the family with arrangements.

John Homan

BUXTON, NC - LCDR JOHN GERALD HOMAN, 45, of Buxton, NC died Friday, November 14, 2003 in an Avon medical facility. Born in Reading, PA, LCDR Homan was the Commander for Group Cape Hatteras, U. S. Coast Guard in Buxton, and had served in the USCG for 26 years.

He was the son of Gerald and Virginia Kofroth Homan of Reading, PA.

Besides his parents, LCDR Homan is survived by his wife, Victoria “Vicki” Toohey Homan of the residence; a daughter, Megan Homan of Buxton, NC; two sons, Christopher Homan of Millerville, PA and Sean Homan of Buxton, NC; and a sister, June Straka of Reading, PA.

A Funeral Mass and Military Honors will be held at Our Lady of the Sea Catholic Church, Buxton, NC on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 11:00 am, with Father Andre Izac officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o the “LCDR John Homan Memorial Fund”, RBC Centura Bank, POB 176, Buxton, NC 27920, Attn: Lisa Jones.

Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo is assisting the family with arrangements.
