Laurinburg - Mrs. Eula Carlisle Abernathy, 85, of 1703 Stonewall Road died Monday, November 22, at UNC Hospitals.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Gospel Chapel Baptist Church near Ramseur.
She is survived by two sons, David Grainger of Ramseur and Randal Abernathy and wife, Jean of Alta Vista, VA; two sisters, Thelma Britt of East Laurinburg and Catherine Bullard of Ash; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelva Batton.
Born February 22, 1919 in Brunswick County, she was a daughter of the late D. L. and Mary Canady Carlisle. She worked for many years as a spinner in Prince Mills and later was employed with C & W Restaurant.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.

Villa Cline (Bill) Herlocker

Laurinburg, NC - Mr. Villa Cline “Bill” Herlocker, 90, of 10843 Hasty rd. died Thursday, November 18, at his home.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the Regan Cemetery near Dillon, SC.
He is survived by a son, Steve Herlocker and wife, Jeannette of Laurinburg; two grandchildren, Stevie Herlocker and Jeanie Herlocker of Laurinburg; a nephew, Tommy McSwain of Warrenton, two nieces, Jane Barnhardt of Oakboro and Millie Protero of Anderson, SC.
Born January 28, 1914, in Stanly County, NC he was a son of the late Henry S. and Emma Little Herlocker. He was a graduate of NC State University and taught middle school science and vocational agriculture in Robeson County and later in Lancaster, SC. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Archie Locklear
Born in Marlboro County, SC on Nov. 15, 1924
Departed on Nov. 10, 2004 and resided in Laurinburg, NC.

Laurinburg - Mr. Archie Locklear, 79, of 301 Maple Street died Wednesday, November 10, at his residence.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church officiated by the Rev. Gary Wilson.
Burial will follow in the Hillside Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Hunt Locklear; three sons, James Earl Locklear of Maxton, Robert Earl Locklear of Laurinburg and Ricky Locklear and wife, Claudia of Charlotte; one stepson, J.C. Hunt and wife, Judy of Laurinburg; four daughters, Geraldine Covington, Shirley Martin and husband, Jerry, Carol Jean Melton and husband, Ray, Dianne Hudson and husband, Donnie, all of Laurinburg; two stepdaughters, Mary Lois Hunt and Doris Hunt of Fairmont; 17 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Standridge.
Born November 15, 1924 in Marlboro County, he was a son of the late Zebedee and Martha Barfield Johnson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Locklear enjoyed going for rides on the country roads of Scotland County, fishing and buying and selling items. He was a retired electrician having worked with the City of Laurinburg and McCarter Electric. He was a member of Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Visitation will be 7 - 9 p.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Raleigh - Mrs. Ethel McCormick Trawick Briles, 87, of 1008 Deboy St., and formerly of Laurinburg died Tuesday, Nov. 2, at her home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel in Laurinburg officiated by the Revs. Stan Smith, Wil Jackson, and Bill Trawick. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.
She is survived by a son, Robert Trawick of Laurinburg; a daughter, Carolyn Jordan of Raleigh; four sisters, Kathleen MacLean of Louisburg, Margaret Paul, Mildred Perkins, and Rachel Beane of Laurinburg; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Born July 28, 1917 in Kinston, she was a daughter of the late James D. and Hattie Webster McCormick and widow of the late Paul Trawick and R. J. Briles. She was a former employee of Baddour’s Department Store and Community Drug in Laurinburg and later owned and operated the Lula Bye Shop.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Gene Alvin Stanton

Bennettsville, SC - Mr. Gene Alvin Stanton, 76, of Goodwin Pond Road died Sunday, October 24, at his home.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pine Crest Cemetery in Gibson officiated by the Rev. Harold Salmon.
He is survived by two brothers, Royce Stanton of Orlando, FL and Curtis Stanton of Pawley’s Island, SC; two sisters, Dorothy Gibson of Gibson and Jewel Powers of Darlington, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Born in Marlboro County, he was a son of the late John McLaurin “Mack” and Elva Quick Stanton. He served with the US Navy and was once stationed at the South Pole. Alvin was a self-employed automobile mechanic.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Dorothy Gibson, 13240 Church St., Gibson.

William Carlisle (Bill) Campbell

Departed on Oct. 1, 2004 and resided in Cary, NC.
Cary, NC - Mr. William C. “Fisherman” Campbell, 58, of Cary died Friday, Oct. 1, at Rex Hospital.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by the Revs. Neil Carter and Elizabeth Forester.
He is survived by Veda Martin; two sons, Greg Campbell of Philadelphia and Aaron Campbell of Raleigh; his mother, Carolyn Campbell of Laurinburg, his sister, Joyce Campbell of Laurinburg.
Born February 24, 1946 in Marlboro County, SC, he was also a son of the late Rupert Carlisle Campbell. He attended UNC-CH and graduated from UNC-Pembroke. For 26 years he was employed with Southern Bell/BellSouth living in Charlotte and later Cary. Most recently he was with Positron. Bill was an avid golfer and UNC sports fan.

J. D. Thompson

Norwood, NC - Mr. J. D. Thompson, 77, died Friday, September 30, at Grand Strand Regional Hospital in Myrtle Beach.
A graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia McLaurin Thompson; a daughter, Sue Ivey of Laurinburg; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Gay Hamilton of Troy, Judy gay Owens of Memphis, and Susan Gay Bailey of Atlanta; two stepsons, Tommy Gay of Troy and Barry gay of Raleigh; two brothers, Bobby Lee Thompson of Dillon, SC and Linwood Thompson of Florence, SC; a sister, Gladys Barfield of Dillon, SC; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers: Alvia, James, Mack and Chesley and by a sister, Grace Sealer.
Born May 8, 1927 in Dillon, he was a son of the late Don Devon Thompson and Dannie Hayes Thompson. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in France and Germany. For 50 years he was employed by Springs Mills, retiring as a supply room supervisor. J. D. enjoyed the beach, fishing, and remodeling homes and cabins.
The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.n. Saturday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.
Ronald Lynn Wiggins, Jr.

Wagram - Mr. Ronald Lynn “Ronnie” Wiggins, Jr., 16, of Hill Creek Road died Tuesday, June 1, of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel officiated by Velma Lewis. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Ronald “Rannie” and Tonya Wiggins of Effingham, SC; his aunt, Velma Lewis of Wagram.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.
Brandon Scott Coble
Born in Rockingham, NC on Feb. 18, 1969

Rockingham - Mr. Brandon Scott Coble, 35, of 305 Scotland Ave. and formerly of Laurinburg died Sunday, May 23, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
A celebration of his life will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Wagram officiated by the Rev. Joe Dempsey of Spartanburg, SC and the Rev. Dr. L. D. Kimrey of the First Baptist Church, Laurinburg. Burial will follow in Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham.
Brandon was the son of Dorothy (Dot) Napier Coble of Laurinburg and Alton A. Coble of Kernersville. He was born in Rockingham on February 18, 1969. He grew up in Wagram attending Spring Hill Baptist Church.
He attended the Scotland County Schools, graduating in 1987 at Scotland High School as an Honors Graduate and a North Carolina Scholar. He was a member of the Scotland High School band program and the Fighting Scots Marching Band, where he was a percussion section leader and student volunteer assistant. The band was the love of his high school years. Brandon attended St. Andrews Presbyterian College and UNC-Charlotte.
He also loved the outdoors, especially sports such as golf and boating. He was a NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan as well as a Michael Jordan fan. Brandon loved challenging his mind with games of Trivial Pursuit.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his sister, Toni Ann Coble of Atlanta; his significant other, Dianne Wheeler of Rockingham and her children, Cody, Amy, and Tara Lanier; his step-mother, Shelby Coble of Kernersville; his aunts and uncles, Eddie and Margaret Napier Brown, Billy and Lois Napier, Jimmy and Nancy Napier, Harold Napier, Harold and Priscilla Coble all of Rockingham, Edward and Lois Barnes of Pineville, 12 cousins, step-brothers and step-sisters, and his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents William H. and Gertrude B Napier and Abbie L and Alma Coble and an uncle, Abbie Coble, Jr. all of Rockingham.
The family will be at the home of his mother, Dot Coble, 420 Midland Way, Laurinburg.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium in Laurinburg.

Cade Thomason Braswell

Cade Thomason Braswell, 6, of 404 Forest Drive died Tuesday April 27, 2004 at UNC Memorial Hospital, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Chapel Hill.
Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Friday, April 30, at Laurinburg Presbyterian Church officiated by Rev. Elizabeth Forrester and Rev. Scott Andrews. Burial with will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
Cade was born July 17, 1997 in Scotland Co. NC, a son of Jeff and Shannon Pharr Braswell. He was a member of Laurinburg Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Children’s Choir. He was a first grade student at Marlboro Academy in Bennettsville, SC where he was on the Headmaster’s List. He was also a Cub Scout, and a baseball player for the Farm Bureau team. Cade possessed a great interest in the Civil War and enjoyed re-enacting events of that era. Cade, following in the footsteps of his father, was a Junior Fireman for Scotland County. Full Fireman’s Burial Honors will be rendered at the graveside.
Cade is survived by his loving parents Jeff and Shannon Pharr Braswell of Laurinburg; his brothers, Hunter McLellan Braswell and Alec Nickolas Braswell, both of the home; his paternal grandmother, Ann Collie and husband Nick of Laurinburg; paternal grandfather, Gene Braswell of West Palm Beach, FL; maternal grandparents, Tom and Dottie Pharr of Bennettsville, SC; also surviving is his maternal great grandmother, Ora Thomason Pharr of Concord, NC.
