Lottie H. Reagan

The funeral for Lottie Humphries Reagan, 83, of 100 Evans-Reagan Rd., who died Monday, July 28, 2003, in Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, July 30, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by Dr. Victor Blackwell and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will be in Olive Branch Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Reagan was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Earlie and Ninnie Belle Dixon Humphries.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas Reagan; two daughters, Sybil Evans and husband, Wayne, of Roxboro, and Bonita Humphries of Fuquay-Varina; two brothers, Roy Humphries and Franklin Humphries, both of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Scott Evans, Steven Evans, Melissa Evans, Bradley Humphries, and Tracey Cullipher.
Pallbearers will be Charles Sanford, Edison Sanford, Harold Sanford, Randall Sanford, Greg Humphries, and William Humphries.

Inez H. Rogers
A memorial service for Inez Humphries Rogers, 77, of Sievers Circle, who died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in her home, will be conducted at 4 p.m., today, July 30, in Roxboro Baptist Church.
Mrs. Rogers was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late Charles and Effie Hobgood Humphries. Her late husband was Leon Carroll Rogers.
She was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church where she served for 21 years as the financial secretary before retiring.
Surviving are a son, Carroll Dale Rogers and his wife, Jan, of Milton; a daughter, Susan R. Newton and her husband, Larry Ray, of Hurdle Mills; a sister, Ruby H. Jones of Roxboro; and seven grandchildren, Caleb Newton, Autumn Newton, Blaine Newton, John Rogers, Jeph Rogers, Amie Rogers, and Michael Rogers.
Memorials may be made to Roxboro Baptist Church Forward by Faith Building Fund, P.O. Box 348, Roxboro, NC, 27573.

Malcolm D. Royster
A memorial service for Malcolm Douglas Royster, 36, of 712 E. Maynard Ave., Durham, who died unexpectedly Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Creedmoor, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, July 30, in the Roxboro National Guard Armory by the Rev. Garland Ragland.
Mr. Royster was the son of Willie and Shirley Royster of Roxboro, who survive.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Christy Poole Royster; two sons, Malcolm De Andrea Royster and Christopher Ta Shawn Royster, both of the home; a sister, Willie Ann Royster of Roxboro; three brothers, Randolph Royster, Jason Royster and Marvin Royster, all of Roxboro; and his parental grandmother, Betty Royster of Oxford.
Arrangements are by Cunningham & Nelson Funeral Home.

Bruce S. Whitfield
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Tuesday for Bruce Stanley Whitfield, 45, of 1721 Robert Whitfield Rd., who died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at Duke University Medical Center.
Mr. Whitifield was a native of Person County, the son of Foy Horton
Whitfield, who survives, and the late Robert O. Whitfield.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are a sister, Betty Sue W. Moore of Hurdle Mills; two brothers, Robert O. (Bobby) Whitfield Jr., of Roxboro and Timmy Whitfield of Fairfield; six nephews and a niece.
Arrangements are being handled by Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Allan C. Boyd

KENLY - The funeral for Allan Craig Boyd, 65, of Kenly, who died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, following an extended illness, was conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, in Kenly United Methodist Church by the Rev. Will Hoyle and the Rev. Mike Leeburg. Burial with Masonic rites was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Boyd was a native of Raleigh, the son of the late Chester R. and Rachel Bailey Boyd.
He graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1955 and from the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy in 1959.
He owned and operated Kenly Drug Co. from 1963 to Jan. 1, 2003.
He was a member of Kenly United Methodist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
He was a past member of Kenly Masonic Lodge No. 257 A.F. & A.M.
He was a member of the Kenly Kiwanis Club, having served as president, and he was a recipient of the Kiwanian of the Year Award.
He was a member of the Johnston Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, which he served as vice chairman for many years and as chairman of the planning committee.
He served on the Town of Kenly planning board and town council.
He was a member of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association, UNC Educational Foundation and UNC Alumni Association.
He was a member of Sons of Confederate Veterans, Eli Olive Camp, Smithfield.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Crumpton Boyd, formerly of Roxboro; two sons, Allan Craig Boyd Jr. and wife, Lynne, of Raleigh; Andrew R. Boyd and wife, Delaina, of Wilson; a daughter Melissa Rose Proctor and husband Chris of Wilson; a brother, Chester R. Boyd Jr. of Asheboro; two sisters, Patricia Sutton of Raleigh, and Judith Beth Currier of Red Springs; and four granddaughters, Blair, Caroline, Bailey and Ashlyn Rose, all of Raleigh.

Eva M. Brown

SUMTER, S.C. - The funeral for Eva Mae Brown, 77, of 6 Emily Dr., Sumter, S.C., who died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, in Tuomey Healthcare System, was conducted at 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 22, in Grace Baptist Church by Dr. James Chandler and Dr. Thomas Painter. Burial was in Sumter Cemetery.
Ms. Brown was a native of Lee County, S. C., the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Hall Brown.
She was retired from Campbell Soup Co.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Sumter.
Surviving are three sons, Danny Brown of Sumter, William Brown and wife, Pat, of Kings, N.C., and the Rev. Herbert Brown and wife, Debbie, of Roxboro; a half-sister, Edith Brown of Summerville; S. C.; a half-brother, Richard Brown of Summerville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Talmadge Tobias, C.W. Ard, Glen Belew, Ken Turner, Rupert Kimbrell, Paul Sorrells, Dan Lyles and Steve Pinkham. Members of the Daisy Cuttino-Paul Alderman Sunday School class, Dr. Dale Cannon and Dr. Phillip Brandt served as honorary pallbearers.

William H. Moore

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The funeral for William Hassell Moore, 85, of Jacksonville, Fla., who died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003 was conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, in Fort Caroline United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Fla. Burial was in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Moore was a native of Person County, the son of the late Bera Mae Bradsher and Fitzhugh Lee Moore. His late wife was Frances Oliver Moore.
He was a veteran of World War II, a sstaff sergeant with the 900th Ordinance Company. He was a part of the invading forces at Omaha Beach at Normandy and served in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Silver Star. After the war he trained at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he became one of their first electronic technicians. He rose steadily through the ranks and ultimately became one of the most highly trained field engineers.
He was transferred to Mayport Naval Station as a CAFSU representative in 1964. During this time he was sent aboard aircraft carriers all over the world to assess and implement repairs needed for launch and recovery of aircraft. He retired from the U.S. Civil Service in 1975. As a post retirement career, he worked at Jacksonville Shipyards.
His later worked on his farm in Alachua, Fla.
He was a member of Fort Caroline Methodist Church.
Surviving are his second wife, Anita Smith Moore; four daughters and their husbands: Kay and Jerry Labruno of Land 0 Lakes, Fla.; Sarah and Morris Gurr of Albany, Ga.; Nancy and Michael Roberts and Rebecca and Ronald Dixon, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; four step-children and their spouses, Ted and Janice Smith of Jacksonville, Cathryn and Grey White of Orange Park Fla.; Sue Gamble of Sapulpa, Okla.; and Tommy and David Duppstadt of Rock Hill, SC.; five sisters, Lorena Shoe, Frances Hester, and Ida Matthews, all of Portsmouth, Va..; Annie Lee Bowes of Roxboro, and Nancy Painter of Charlotte; two brothers, Robert Moore of Hurdle Mills, and Dewey Moore of West Palm Beach, Fla. 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Robert W. Powell

SILVER SPRINGS, Md. - The funeral for Robert Wallace Powell, 25, of Silver Springs, Md., who died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Washington, D.C., will be conducted at 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, in Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Mr. Powell was the son of John Powell of Washington, D.C. and Carolyn Jean Brooks Powell of Silver Springs.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Nicole Powell of Silver Springs; and a brother, John Powell Jr. of Silver Springs; four aunts, Janice Drumwright of Roxboro, Doris Fay Brinson and Donna Gail Brooks, both of Raleigh, and Gloria Brooks of Macon, Ga..; and two great aunts, Matrice Davis of Roxboro and Edna Walker of Greensboro.
Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home of Matrice Davis, 1330 Chub Lake Rd., Roxboro.

Ethel B. Cruise

A graveside funeral for Ethel Brogden Cruise, 76, of 770 Whitt Town Rd., who died Wednesday, Dec. 3, at her home, will be conducted at 11 a.m., today, Dec. 6, in the Cannady Family Cemetery in Creedmoor by the Rev. Andi Woodhouse.
Mrs. Cruise was the daughter of the late Tom and Beulah Keith Brogden. Her late son was James Glenn Cruise.
She was a resident of Durham for more than 40 years.
She was a member of Grey Stone Baptist Church where she and her husband tended to the church’s garden.
Surviving are her husband, Glenn S. Cruise; five daughters, Joann Bradsher, Glenda Fleming, Melba Thompson, Lila Dianne Cruise and Betsy Hamilton, all of North Carolina; three sisters, Mary Lib Mitchell, Mildred Newcomb and Delories Harmon; five brothers, Thomas, Paul, Gene, Elmo, and Joe Brogden; 14 grandchildren, Phillip, Megan and Matthew Hamilton, Leslie and Alison Unger, Sarah, Audrey and Andrew Thompson, Betsy and Jennifer Fleming, Carolina Jordan, Susan Clayton and David and Steve Bradsher; five great-grandchildren, Abby and Madison Jordan, Elijah and Jonathan Fleming, Chandler Clayton and Emory Bradsher.

Ira J. Hester
HILLSBOROUGH — The funeral for Ira Joe Hester, 77, of 5604 N.C. 86 N., who died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at UNC Memorial Hospitals, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, in Mt. Zion AME Church by the Rev. Bernard Wilder. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie T. Hester; two sons, Larry Hester of Hurdle Mills and Malcolm Hester of Hillsborough; three sisters, Vesta Evans of Chapel Hill, Emma Sue Pettiford of Roxboro and Nellie Chavis of Greensboro; a brother, Detroit Hester of Capital Heights, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., today, Dec. 6, at Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Service.

Tayvion S. Poteat
The funeral for Tayvion Semaj Poteat, 17-month-old infant son of Teresa Burton and Rodney Poteat, who died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at Duke Medical Center, was conducted at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 5, in Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Marcus Vann. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a sister, Jamie Poteat of Mebane; two brothers, Rodney Poteat Jr. of Mebane, and Tajaun Poteat of Roxboro; his maternal grandparents, James and Gwendolyn Burton of Semora; his paternal grandparents, Diane Thompson of Mebane and James Edward Poteat of Wilmington, Del.; his great-grandparents, Robert Thompson and Mable Thompson of Mebane; Earnest Poteat of Wilmington and Sarah Graves Poteat of Detroit, Mich.; and his great-great-grandmother, Vergie Graves of Detroit.

Charlie H. Self
The funeral for Charlie Harrison Self, 88, of 319 High St., who died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at Roxboro Nursing Center, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 7, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ross Thompson. Burial will be in Burchwood Cemetery.
Mr. Self was a native of Chase City, Va., the son of the late Garfield and Sarah Ellen Hoyle Self.
He was retired from the City of Roxboro.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Self; a son, C.G. Self and wife, Marion, of Roxboro; four grandchildren, Cathy Riggs, Greg Self, Judy Bledsoe and Michael Jones; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., today, Dec. 6, at Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Bernice W. Bowes

A graveside funeral for Bernice Walker Bowes, 89, formerly of 2845 Burlington Rd., who died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, was conducted at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, in Wheeler’s Primitive Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Martin Hall.
Mrs. Bowes was a native of Halifax County, Va., the daughter of the late James L. and Judie Viola McCullough Walker. Her husband was the late Elbert Anthum Bowes.
She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Surviving are four children and their spouses, Bernard (Joe) and Linda Bowes of Hurdle Mills, R. Wayne and Connie Bowes, Kathleen B. and Sonny Duncan, and Linda B. and O.C. Duncan, all of Roxboro; nine grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

James Blankenship IV
DIANA, Texas — The funeral for James Finley (Baby Jimmy) Blankenship IV, two-year-old son of James F. Blankenship III and Shelby Blankenship of Diana, Texas was conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 27, 2004, in Simmons Hill Baptist Church in Diana by the Rev. Steve Dugger. Burial was in Dollahite Cemetery.
Surviving in addition to his parents are a brother, Reuben McGee of the home; a sister, Sienna Blankenship of the home; his grandparents, James F. Blankenship Jr. and Liz Blankenship of Mebane, Chris and Judy Bradley of Roxboro, Diann Allen of Diana and Roger Dillow of Louisville, Ky.; his great-grandfather, James F. Blankenship of Roxboro; his great-grandmothers, JoAnne Dunn of Kissimmee, Fla. and Linda Bradley of Goldsboro; and his great-great-grandmother, Louise Harrell of Tarboro.

Charles W. Hughes
A memorial service for Dr. Charles Willson Hughes, 76, who died Sunday, March 28, 2004, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, March 31, in Roxboro Presbyterian Church.
Dr. Hughes, the son of the late Dr. Jack H. and Mary Willson Hughes, practiced dentistry in Roxboro for 40 years.
He attended N.C. State University and Davidson College and was a member of the first class graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.
He served a tour of duty in the United States Army from 1948 to 1950 and was stationed in Alaska.
He served on the District Board of Health for 27 years.
He was a charter member of BPO Elks Lodge 2005, a former member of the Roxboro Jaycees, and a past president of the Roxboro Country Club.
He was a member of the North Carolina Dental Society and a life member of the American Dental Association.
As member of Roxboro Presbyterian Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday school secretary/treasurer for 17 years and superintendent for 12 years.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Dickerson Hughes; two daughters, Ann Hughes of Roxboro and June Hughes Crawford of Hurdle Mills; a brother, Jack Hughes of Winston-Salem; and a grandson, Charles David Lunsford of Hurdle Mills.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sheldon Yarborough, Tommy Yarborough, Jack Hughes III, John I. Morton, Gilmer McMillan, James T. Street, Don Davis, and Leon Long.

Roy L. Humphries
The funeral for Roy Lee Humphries, 92, of 4611 Allensville Rd., who died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 1, in Rock Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Martin Hall and the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Humphries was a native of Person County, the son of the late Earlie Franklin and Ninne Dixon Humphries. His wife was the late Mabel Denny Humphries.
He was retired from JFD, having also worked at Collins and Aikman Corp. and John Deere.
He farmed most of his life and was a member of Rock Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Earl Humphries and William Wayne Humphries, both of Roxboro; three daughters, Esther H. Vaughan of Oxford, Polly H. Carver and Dolly Humphries, both of Roxboro; two step-sons, Wayne Jones of Oxford and Samuel Jones of Raleigh; two step-daughters, Laverne J. Bernard of Oxford and Patricia J. Perkins of Roxboro; a brother, Franklin (Frank) Humphries of Roxboro; 10 grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., today, March 31, at Brooks & White Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Earl Humphries, 4651 Allensville Rd., Roxboro.
Pallbearers will be Felix Gentry, Peyton Humphries, Bruce Humphries, John Humphries, Greg Humphries, Gary Humphries, Donald Denny and Gerald Denny.

Willie J. Johnson
The funeral for Willie James (Egg) Johnson, 55, who died Friday, March 19, 2004, was conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 23, inSaint James Baptist Church by Pastor Brenda Timberlake White and the Rev. Haywood S. Smith. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Person County, the son of Louis McKinley Johnson of Roxboro, who survives, and the late Mary Elizabeth (May Lizzie) Johnson.
He attended Person County public schools and was a 1967 graduate of Person County High School.
He was a former member of Mill Hill Baptist Church until he moved to Baltimore, Md. Upon returning to Roxboro, he was a member of Christian Faith Center in Creedmoor.
While in Baltimore, he was employed with Raymond Metal Corp.. He was employed with Collins & Aikman Corp. for more than 28 years. He was the owner of Johnson’s Cleaning Service with Canterbury House on Leasburg Road.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Christine Allen Johnson; a son, Derrick James Johnson and wife, Sandi, of Oceanside, Calif.; a daughter, Shannon Charlene Johnson of Roxboro; four sisters, Margie Love, Joyce Winstead and Phyllis Dillahay, all of Roxboro, and Sylvia Daye of Baltimore; two brothers, Robert Johnson and Roland Johnson, both of Roxboro; and three grandchildren, Nathaniel R. Johnson, Amanda R. Johnson and RoShanon N. Owen.

Judith C. Oakley
The funeral for Judith Carl Oakley, 56, of 5660 Durham Rd., who died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Cambridge Hills, was conducted at 1 p.m., Monday, March 29, in Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by Pastor Frankie Reaves and the Rev. Norma Walters. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mrs. Oakley was a native of Durham County, the daughter of the late Arthur Carl and Edith Pearce Oakley.
She was a member of McGhee’s Mill Baptist Church.
Surviving are an aunt, Rachel Kepner of Springfield, Pa..; and several cousins.
Pallbearers were John Robert Porterfield, Matthew Foushee, Ronnie Oakley, Clint Morrow, Adam Foushee and Herbert Garrett.
