FRANCES SCHLEYER MALONEY RAPP
RALEIGH - Frances Schleyer Maloney Rapp, died at home on March 10, 1999 at age 91 after several years of failing health.
Her husbands, Thomas P. Maloney and William E. Rapp, both of Chicago, Illinois, preceded her in death, as did her four sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are her son, Thomas F. Maloney of Orland Park, Illinois; daughter, Patricia Maloney Cody of Raleigh, 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Interment will be in La Porte, Indiana.
in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church Building Fund, 5801 Falls of the Neuse Road, Raleigh, NC 27609; or to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., 4th floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.

EDWARD A. REGISTER
ERWIN - Mr. Edward A. Register, 64, of Erwin, died Tuesday evening at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was the son of the late Moses and Beulah Register.
He was owner and operator of Ed's Village Open Air Market in Erwin for a number of years.
Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at Erwin Chapel Church. Burial, Devotional Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Doris H. Register; son, Ed Register of Charleston W.Va.; two daughters, Donna Forrest of Raleigh, Rhonda West of Havelock; a brother, Bud Register of Dunn; two sisters, Barbara McClenny of Dunn, Patricia Kay Jernigan of Morehead; seven grandchildren, Reggie Jackson, Valerie Jackson, Brian Forrest, Amy West, Amanda West, Ivy Register and Madeline Register.
Memorials may be sent to the Erwin Chapel Church Building Fund at 137 Erwin Chapel Rd., Dunn, N.C.28334.

ARLEAN N. TAYBRON
SPRING HOPE - Arlean N. Taybron, 67 died March 10. Funeral service on Sunday 2 p.m. at Red Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial, Spring Hope Memorial Garden. Wake, Saturday 7:30-8:30 p.m. at William Toney's Funeral Home, Spring Hope.
Surviving: daughter, Reba Lucas of Wendell; sons, Leon Taybron of Raleigh, Joseph Uvon Taybron of Spring Hope, Eugene Taybron of Bailey and Tony Taybron of the home; sisters, Bernice Blackmond and Edith Taybron of Spring Hope, Barbara Cooper of Brooklyn, NY; Marcella Mann of Rochester, NY; one brother, Leo Rhodes of Roychester, NY; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

VERNA STEEL TOWNE
CHAPEL HILL - Verna Steel Towne, 95, a 12 year resident of Carolina Meadows in Chapel Hill, died at the Health Center on March 7, of respiratory failure.
She was a member of the Eno River U.U. Church in Durham.
Born in St. Paul in 1903 and raised in Minneapolis, she graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1924 where she was a founding member of the Alpha Chi Omega chapter. She taught speech and drama at the University. She left the Twin Cities in 1940 to live in Chevy Chase, Md. for 46 years where she taught history at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School from 1952-59. She was a board member of All Souls Church (Unitarian), a charter member of Cedar Lane U.U. Church in Bethesda, a member of the Women's Club of Chevy Chase, and president of Prevention of Blindness Society of DC.
At Carolina Meadows, she was an active short story contributor to Meadowscripts, participated in discussion groups and for many years was the principal piano player for the monthly sing-along.
Her husband, Samuel A. Towne, died in 1986.
Survivors include her sons, Samuel Alexander Towne Jr. of Salisbury, NC, and William Steele Towne of Chapel Hill, NC, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the University of Minnesota Foundation, 1300 South 2nd Street, Suite 200, Minneapolis MN 55454, or Gift Committee, 500 Carolina Meadows, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
A memorial service will be held at Carolina Meadows on April 10, at a time to be announced.

RUTH B. BUNCH
RALEIGH - Ruth Buffaloe Bunch, 84, died Sunday, May 2, 1999 at home.
Mrs. Bunch was born in Wake County, and was a lifelong resident. She retired from Mayview Convalescent Center.
Surviving are her daughters: Edna Hayes of Raleigh, Frances Moore of Knightdale, Marjorie Stephenson of Raleigh, and Veta Melton of Garner; grandchildren Kathy Sykes, Linda Edwards, Kenny Mercer, Allyson Melton, Kimberly Maples, Danny Bunch, Deborah Tart, and Pam Shepard, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 1945, and her son, Haywood, in January.
The funeral will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, with interment in Montlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday, 7-8:30 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 600 St. Mary's Street, and other times at 1608 Woods Creek Drive, Garner.

DAVID PULASKI "D.P." LANE SR.
RALEIGH - David Pulaski Lane Sr., affectionately known as "D.P." the son of the late William H. and Mary N. Lane was born November 5, 1912 in Raleigh, NC.
He attended public schools in Raleigh, NC, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1935 from St. Augustine's College; also located in Raleigh. In 1942, he graduated from Howard University School of Dentistry. Shortly after passing the NC Dental Board, he was inducted into the US Army where he served as Captain in the Dental Corps in Rome, until 1946. During his service career, he received the American Campaign Medal World War II Victory Medal and the EAME Campaign Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge from the service in 1953.
In 1947, he established his dental practice in Raleigh, NC and retired in 1980. During his active years, he was a member of the Old North State Dental Society, National Dental Society, NAACP, Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. He was also a charter member of Meadowbrook Country Club. He received many honors and awards. Among those which he greatly cherished were The Humanitarian Award, General Baptist State Convention and Who's Who Among Black American.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 50 years, "Rene," a daughter Deborah Lane; two sons, Dr. David P. Lane Jr. and Victor Lane; grandson, Drew, brothers, Joseph Lane and wife Bessie; Wilferd Lane and wife Deborah; sisters Martha Constant and Cynthia Lane and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church, 815 Darby Street, Raleigh, NC. Visitation from 11:30 to 12:00 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church's Endowment Fund.

WILLIS M. LEE SR.
RALEIGH - Willis M. Lee, Sr., 83, died May 3, 1999. Willis Lee was an outstanding businessman who was active in his community and church.
He was born in Wake County on November 3, 1915. Willis was in the painting and wallpaper business for 67 years. He was founder and owner of Willis Lee Paint and Wallpaper, Inc. until his retirement in 1985. Willis Lee was known throughout North Carolina for his high standards and top-quality of work. His many projects included Crabtree Valley Mall, North Hills Mall, Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, Civic Center, Peace College, Meredith College and many churches.
Willis Lee was active in his community throughout his life. He was a loyal member of the Raleigh (host) Lions Club for 29 years. He was a member of Raleigh Golf Association and The Stag Club. He served in the US Army in World War II.
As a faithful and life-long member, he served as a Deacon and Chairman of Building Committee of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He also actively supported several organizations, including the Capital Area YMCA, YWCA and Hospice of Wake County.
Willis was predeceased by his parents, Oscar J. and Edna Smith Lee, and a sister, Lottie Lee Furr.
He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Elsie Bunn Lee; son, Willis Lee, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Martha W. Lee; two grandchildren, Laura Lee Fishpaw and Michael M. Lee; one great-grandchild, Taylor Lee Fishpaw; brothers, Richard Smith Lee of Raleigh, Robert Earl Lee of Charlottesville, VA.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Mark White will conduct the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund for Tabernacle Baptist Church, 118 South Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 or Hospice of Wake County, 1300 St. Mary's St., Fourth Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605.

LEWIS VERNON PARRISH
KNIGHTDALE - Lewis Vernon Parrish, 77, of #7 Park Avenue, died Saturday, May 1, 1999 at Wake Medical Center.
Funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Knightdale Baptist Church. Burial, New Knightdale Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Knightdale Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 21, Knightdale, NC 27545.

DIANE P. ROBINSON
APEX - Diane Patricia Robinson, 37, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on May 1, 1999 after an extended illness.
She is survived by her loving husband, Mark and her two children, Steve and Laura.
Diane was born and raised in Erie, PA. She graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. degree in Nursing. She worked in many aspects of nursing for over 14 years but especially enjoyed her career in pediatrics. She devoted her life to her family and to helping others. Prior to and during her illness she volunteered in many school and church activities.
Diane was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Moon.
Also surviving are Diane's father, Charles Moon and stepmother, Francis of Erie, PA; sisters, Pam Sharrow of Grosse Pointe, MI, Deborah Bruckart of Melbourne, FL, Elaine Soulliard of Audobon, NJ; brother, Chuck Moon of Rochester, NY; aunts and uncles in the Memphis TN and Charlotte NC areas; and many nephews and nieces.
Diane and her family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. James Vredenburgh and other staff members of the Duke Adult Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Program for their compassion, wisdom, and dedication. Many thanks are also extended to The Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Apex, St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cary, Apex Baptist Church, and our many friends and neighbors for their continuous love and support during Diane's illness.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cary by the Rev. John Gibson. The service is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, at 3 p.m. A reception will be held afterwards in the St. Paul's Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Prince of Peace Building Fund (in care of the Treasurer, 1513 Bullfinch Lane, Apex, NC 27502) or to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, Raleigh.

ERNEST LEE "BILL" SEWELL JR.
RALEIGH - Mr. Ernest Lee "Bill" Sewell, Jr., age 61, of English Ivy Lane, Raleigh, and formerly of Hickory, NC, died Sunday, May 2, 1999, in the Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. He was born March 1, 1938, in Erwin, NC, the son of Ernest Lee Sewell, Sr. and Lena Rose Quick Sewell. He graduated from Christ School, Arden, NC, in 1957. He attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, where he played basketball. He graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC; received his Masters from Western Carolina University; taught at Christ School for 17 years where he was head football coach and athletic director; was head coach and athletic director at Ravenscroft School in Raleigh; was the Southeast Commissioner of Babe Ruth Baseball; and was currently serving on the Board of Trustees of Christ School and inducted into the Christ School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997. For twenty years he worked for Sirchie Corp. in Raleigh, NC. He was a member of Christ Church in Raleigh.
Survivors: wife, Helen Bass Sewell of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest Lee "Bill" Sewell, III and wife Martha and Edward Scott Sewell and wife Mary-Beth, all of Raleigh; son, George Douglas Sewell, II of Raleigh; brother, George Douglas Sewell of Raleigh; sister, Haffye Sewell Cox of Tarboro; grandson, Ernest Lee Sewell, IV of Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Christ Church, Raleigh, with the Rev. Dr. Winston Charles officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the memorial service. A second memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 1999 at St. Joseph's Chapel, Christ School, Arden, NC, with burial following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bill Sewell Scholarship Fund, 500 Christ School Road, Arden, NC 28704.

LOIS B. BLOODWORTH
RALEIGH - Mrs. Lois B. Bloodworth, 93, of Raleigh and formerly of Guilford Road, Charlotte, died Monday, May 3, 1999.
Mrs. Bloodworth was born in Mocksville, NC and was a member of Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walker A. Bloodworth in 1952, her sister, Clara McKinney and her brother, Lewis Beck.
Survivors include three nieces, Ruth Beacham of Raleigh, Doris Mitchell of Louisville, KY and Jean Bennick of California.
Services will be conducted from the graveside at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, with the Reverend Stan Heiser officiating.
Harry and Bryant Company, Funeral Directors, Charlotte is serving the family of Mrs. Bloodworth.

KIMBERLY FULLER CALHOUN
ROCKY MOUNT - Kimberly Fuller Calhoun, 42, died Sunday, May 2, 1999. She was born December 10, 1956 in Vance County, daughter of John and Alice Abbott Fuller.
Surviving, in addition to parents of Temperance Hall, husband, Steve Calhoun; sons, Walt Calhoun and wife, Kathy and Donald Calhoun, both of Rocky Mount, Joe Calhoun of the home; sisters, Tam Baird of Ozark, Mo., Jana Sandy of Wilmington; maternal grandmother, Elsie G. Abbott of Rocky Mount; grandson, Josh Calhoun.
Graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Calhoun Family Cemetery, Edgecombe County, with the Rev. Jack Tittle officiating.
The family will be at the home, 2420 Clover Road, Rocky Mount.
Arrangements by Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.
